"Storage" directory of MDA-II - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 Accessories

Can anyone tell me:
1. what the function is of the "Storage" directory on MDA-II?
2. How to make use of it?
When my MDA-II has had a hard-reset, all the information in the "Storage" has been disappeard anyway.

Look at my Lay-out in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?p=60234#60234

Use the Storage folder to keep files that will NOT be erased after a hard reset.

Apps on storage card

Hi,
since I'm running REALLY LOW at internal storage I tinker with the idea of putting some apps to storage card. Thus I'm wondering what if I reflashed my Herald someday. Will I have to reinstall those apps as well or will I be able start them right from SD? What about the app's [email protected] Windows folder?!
Cheers
Hello
If you decide to do a hard reset, then you must reinstall all the programs in SD ..
Whenever you change ROM or you make a hard reset, you'll need to reinstall all CAB
It depends on whether the CAB installs files to different locations, and whether the CAB contains registry entries. Check your CAB file using MSCEINF to see if it copies files to the windows folder and if it has registry entries. Also check the [DefaultInstall] section of the .inf file for the entry 'SelfRegisterDll'. If your CAB file contains any of these things then you'll have to reinstall it after a hard reset.
A large percentage of CABs only contain a single file with no registry entrys and would not have to be reinstalled after a hard reset.

Hi J03M4N,
With your help (Thanks) there is a new version for MSCEInf (version 2.6) :
Contributions of version 2.6
• Backslash added in rebuilt Inf file, at item [SourceDisksNames], if specified folder has not one at the beginning.
• Due to a bug in new version of mshtml.dll in Internet Explorer 8 Beta for drawing a background image in ListView, I have taken away the background image in the Open Cab Dialog Box.
• There is now a new column in the tab "Folders", with real values written in the CAB without transformation of %CExx%.
Download links in my signature.
not all apps have to be reinstalled. even apps which require registry keys might write them when you run the app from the SD card without installing it.
but remember that not all apps can be installed on the SD card..
Which can't? Any specific ones?
Cheers
i can't name you all the apps which can't
some can, some can't.
for instance, you can't install iGO8 on your storage card...
just install the app on your device and choose Storage Card... (which doesn't always appear as an option)... you can check after installing if it installed on your card or not.
max, uninstall.
if you have installed to your storage card you can just put links to them in the windows\startmenu\ folder
theres an app for that

Data Apps

Hello, I have a question. I have the Samsung galaxy ace root and the root explorer I can see the files but the problem is that I have a problem with the sd card.
Explaining the root problem is that I open explorer and I get the root folder and there I give app data and then and there I get all the apps installed on the internal card and cell phone so I give the app and I can give install message so that if I give to see all your arxibos will I see, because I want to do the same thing but in the applications installed on the sd card is all that installed him stan to see how the d internal memory but the memory externally. Not if I explain here is better:
when I get into /data/app
imageshack.us/photo/my-images/713/18562887.jpg/
imageshack.us/photo/my-images/842/37418692.jpg/
imageshack.us/photo/my-images/94/41448627.jpg/
and when I'm in /mnt/sdcard
imageshack.us/photo/my-images/204/24011522.jpg/
The purpose of this is that in / mnt / sdcard no data / app so I can not give the application to see as before in / data / app so you can see the configuration files of the game
Even in the pc let me.
PS: the big problem is that the file is read-only and even changing the permissions and putting it all clicked not even let me delete or modify files in that folder or glue or anything.
Let's see if anyone can answer me. thanks
Reading your question is confusing, maybe rephrase?
ok I clarify things. this is me in the sd card I have installed the game avatar fight because I'll get in / mnt / ASEC / game directory then I get the apk I give and I get to install, view or cancel I give to see me go all configuration files of the game because I just want to modify the game files. Well that all fine but I get the file for editing and I find that it is read-only root cn explorer try to change the permissions to write, read and execute but nothing will not let me tells me that the sd card does not support changing the permits. So my question is:
Can you tell me any way you could modify the configuration files or at least delete and paste new ones, ie to stop reading, writing and execution Aguna no way to force it to be writing?
Thank you.

[Q] CWM Backup failed -> internal storage full - can't find&delete the corrupt files
Hey guys,
I have a big problem with my Tablet after a CWM Recovery failed: The internal storage is completely full and I am not able to find and delete the uncomplete backup-files.
That happens after t I tried to backup to the internal storage of my device. After a while the backup process failed (I think because of insufficent storage on the internal SD card for the backup file). Afterwards I used "backup-to-external-SD" and it works fine.
The problem is now, that after I started the tablet again it says "inssuficent storage on internal SD card" and I cant even install an 155kb app any more. => CWM didn't delete the files after the first backup process failed.
Usually I would be able to use my file explorer, choose the internal sd, look for the backup folder with the uncompleted files and delete it. But it doesn't work! The folders of my internal SD card don't contain the massive damaged files.
But when I go into Recovery and click on "Flash files from SD" I see the following folders:
- /0 -> contain all the sd card files
- /clockwordmod -> contains /backup/ with the damaged CWM files I want to delete but can't find with a file manager
- /legacy
- /obb
Click to collapse
Does anyone know how I could be able to access the folder I can see in the Recovery so that I can delete the clockwordmod/backup/ folder?
I would really appreciate your help :highfive:
EDIT: I had a similar problem once and was able to solve it by formatting everything via CWM-Recovery, but I can't do it this time again because of a lot of important files and data.
EDIT2: I use CWM Recovery v6.0.2.7

You can find the file under data/media/0/clockworkmod/backup
You will need root access.

Thanks for your help!!
The backup folder you mentioned is empty, but I found the files here:
/data/media/clockwordmod/backup
So the filesystem the Recovery shows me is in /data/media.
Edit: Without root access I only saw an empty folder (info for people with the same problem)

Confused about (internal) storage

Hello,
I am little confused about phones storage. Hope someone can help me.
OK, When I first configured my phone I installed TitaniumBackup and restored all my apps and data from my former phone HTC Sensation. Then I copied Sensations SD Card data to Nexus' internal storage via Windows. For example also the folder "WhatsApp".
When I connect the phone to my PC I can see its internal storage. In the folder "WhatsApp/Database" I can find some files like "msgstore-2014-01-17.1.db.crypt" or "msgstore-2014-01-16.1.db.crypt".
Now I open ES FileExplorer, go to device/sdcard: there I can see mainly the same folders I copied from Sensation to Nexus. WhatsApp is also there. When I look inside I can't find any files like "msgstore-2014-01-17.1.db.crypt" I see on "internal storage" via PC. but I see others like "msgstore-2014-01-24.1.db.crypt". What?! I don't understand that.
OK, next Test: Via PC I copy a file named 123test.txt to the Whatsapp Folder. Again I look via ES FileExplorer on the phone, what happens. Ola, I can see 123test.txt in device/sdcard. But not e.g. "msgstore-2014-01-17.1.db.crypt". Aha... strange.
And while writing this question I had to copy the filename of "msgstore-2014-01-17.1.db.crypt" from Windows explorer to paste it here. And now I can see also "msgstore-2014-01-17.1.db.crypt" in device/sdcard on my phone, but not the ohers like "msgstore-2014-01-16.1.db.crypt". I touch a file in Windows Explorer on "internal storage" and after that it's copied to device/sdcard?
This can't be normal?! That's zero transparent... and weird...
Can someone please clear it up for me?!
THANKS!

Maybe it's because I haven't finished my coffee yet, but I reread your post a few times and only sort of understand what you are trying to figure out...
Since the Nexus doesn't have external storage, then the Internal Storage you see in Windows is /sdcard. It sounds like maybe either the database files from your Sensation might not have transferred over to the Nexus correctly, or the older file maybe was rewritten with the version of the app on the Nexus? Or if it just doesn't show up when you copy the file to the phone while it is still plugged in, then it might not show up in a file manager on the phone until you unplug it and then the phone rescans the media to sync the contents so file managers can display everything. This is common behavior with the MTP set up. Let me know if I am not on the right path with the info and I'll see if I can help clarify more.

Hello es0tericcha0s,
what I do not understand is: Why do I see on my PC other files then on my phone?
Why I looked at that: On phones with SD Card I backuped all my SD Card before ROM changes. Then I just copy my backup back to SD Card. But now I am not sure what to backup. If I backup my internal storage via PC I have definitily not the current data in it!
I don't understand that behaviour?!

I'd have to go with good old buggy MTP. I've seen lots of these 'ghost files' in Windows explorer with my previous phone (GNEX). If both file manager apps and for instance adb shell do not show files that Windows explorer via MTP does show, you can safely assume Windows explorer is wrong.
Tip: for a more secure data transfer, copy your /sdcard content from your PC to the N5 using the adb push command. I believe there are even GUIs for adb nowadays if you don't like working on the command line.
Guys... I still do not understand that thing...
I installed CM11. Copied via Windows Explorer my Titanium Backup folder to internal storage. Nothing else. Then I restored WhatsApp to see what happens. Everything worked fine. Whatsapp is OK but has no media file I sent or received. OK, I can copy them from my backup to internal memory. BUT I CAN'T SEE ANY WHATSAPP FOLDER in my Windows Explorer. But in my phone file explorer I can see it!
This can't be normal!
How does one can make a consistent backup of it's phone with that behaviour?!
EDIT: After I rebooted the phone I can also see the WhatsApp folder in Windows... :/
Like I said: MTP is buggy. For reliable file transfers via usb use adb push and pull commands.

This is sooo strange...
I made a TWRP backup. Then I used adb pull /sdcard/ /sdcardbackup to copy my storage with my TWRP backup to PC. But I can't find the backup on my PC after adb finished the copy job. Where is it? I searched with the explorer on the phone:
/sdcard/ -> I am redirected to /storage/emulated/legacy - this view is identical with my backup on pc
/storage/sdcard0/ -> I am redirected to /storage/emulated/legacy - same as above
/storage/emulated/ -> There are folders 0, legacy and TWRP and there I found my backup.
Shouldn't I find TWRP backups on my sdcard, storage, emultade, legacy or I don't know how the place is called?!
OK, I try to copy thios TWRP backup to my PC:
- via PC: I can't, because I see only the "internal storage"
via adb: I can't, too: E:\Nexus 5\android-sdk-windows\platform-tools>adb pull /storage/emulated/TWRP /TWRPbackup DOES NOT WORK
BUUHUUUUUUUUUU unbelievable
How do you check where your data is? I don't...
You used a relative path for the destination folder, meaning that folder was created on the location where your adb executable is. Look for it there or use an absolute path for your destination folder.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
You're supposed to adb pull from /sdcard not /storage
If you didn't change directory (cd) in cmd / terminal, then your pulled data is in the directory that opens by default in cmd. Open cmd to see what path you let it default to. Often c:\users\username
Don't forget if you're in windows, you need to
adb pull /sdcard/source \destination
And linux
adb pull /sdcard/source /destination

Hello,
copy command should be ok. hoever. Why is TWRP backup saved to location /storage/emulated/TWRP, not on "internal memory"?
Really guys... this can't be normal. is there something wrong with my phone or ROM?!

No, it's something wrong with you. I'd be easier to copy the backup to the phone memory visible to a PC using a root explorer and then copy it to the PC that way if you can't get adb working

[Q] [MEMORY LEAK] Device Memory is full, but it's unknown what filled it! +screenshot

The total space is 1.57 GB. The "Apps" (used space) and "Available" (free space) doesn't add up to the total space.
512 + 0.82 = 512.82 MB, where is that missing 1000 MB?
There must be some unknown files that I can't see with Astro file manager (hidden files enabled) because I don't have root.
So how to delete those unknown files (without root)? How to get back that missing 1000 MB?
Looks like your /data/ partition (installed apps) is full, but the /system/ partition (rom+stock apps) has some space left, hence what you see in the storage manager.
If you install Link2SD and go to Storage Info (you will see something like on this screenshot)
What do you see on your device ?
To make space on the /data/ partition you could try to move more apps to the internal SDCard (settings -> apps -> select app -> "move to" button) or you could try to use Link2SD to do more, but you will need root.
Alternatively it is possible to resize the /data/ partition by taking space allocated to the internal memory /SDCard0/ partition.
This guide will explain you how.
You will need root and a kernel with recovery, also knowing your way around in ADB and have some basic knowledge about storage partitions.
I've already moved everything that I can to the internal memory and deleted the cache of many apps and removed the updates of all Google apps.
This problem appeared when I tried to download a file with Dolphin browser. I went to this site:
openstreetmap.hu/letoltesek
and tried to download this file:
TuraReteg.sqlitedb
The phone become unresponsive and something drained the whole memory. So there must be unknown files in that partition.
As I know, it's not possible to access the device memory without root. The Astro file manager shows empty folders. The phone is not mine. So how to delete those unknown files that waste the internal memory without root? (The Clean Master is useless, it cleans the "internal memory" only, NOT the "device memory".)
Maybe what happened is that after the download the contents of that .sqlitedb file got merged into the internal databases of your device...which would mean at least 186MB being injected or copied somewhere, hopefully on the /data/ partition.
Have you tried to do a factory reset (from the phone settings) ?
This should wipe the /data/ partition (and also the SDcard, so remove if there are file on it you wish to keep).
Backup what you need to keep on your device (messages, media and so on).
If that doesn't help and you are on a stock ROM, what you can try after that is connect the phone to a computer and reflash the latest Sony ROM with Sony Companion (it is called "repair phone" in the program if I recall correctly)
