Need some internet sites - General Topics

Been looking, but not finding, a XDA friendly address for ebay...
I also need an xda friendly web site that will give me the weather in Germany.
Thanks in advance.
Edy

have you tried wap.yahoo.com to get the weather!

So you want a version of ebay specially designed to run on small screens? I dont know if there is such a thing

Thats about it.. I really thought ebay would be doing something like this as they are a pretty turned on company.
Tried the yahoo link, but it the weather feature was dead :-(
I think what I really want is a site that lists all the PDS friendly web sites that also opperate as normal sites. I found one listing via google, which gave me sky news and bbc news, but other stuff is eluding me (and google)....
Anyone have a URL for a site that lists PDS friendly sites?

Pocket pc sites.
Have a look here.
www.pocketpcmag.com/_top/bestsites.asp

eBay does have a mobile site, run through another company. Unfortunately, that third party's service is crap; down more often than up.

First Post, and a Dumb Question!

Hello all first post, long time lurker of this website.
About few months ago I found the website after doing some searches for different phones I was looking at buying. One of them was the HTC hermes. Luckilly at the time i was ready to buy the cingular 8525 came out and i am going down to pick mine up on monday.
This may come out as nerdy or geeky, but i have no clue and cant find anyone i know with one of these devices (ppc) that can verify one thing for me
"Can anyone with a mobile internet explorer, or any 3rd party browser for the ppc navigate to ... :: cough:: a website either www.worldofwarcraft.com or forums.worldofwarcraft.com"
^--Yes i play the game, i am one of the millions of mindless zombies who go pew pew, lazors!
Anyway, hope to be a long time poster and supporter of these forums, and hope to get some replies or anyone who has a spare second to verify that website for me Thanks!
You can open the site but you not going to see much. Flash and Java are not supported by the built in explorer and even NetFront (the most powerful 3rd party browser doesn't fare to well).
That site really isn't designed for mobile access.

For some (most?) things thats true... But if you plan on doing anything on secure links, don't use Opera Mini as all your information and the screens are rendered elsewhere and unencrypted when they come to you (so don't do internet banking or online shopping with Opera Mini).
thats correct, opera mini is not to be trusted with any secure websites such as online banking, and any other website that stores sensitive data
i.e username password
Dude, the ebay link.. You think Opera would sell in eBay when there are other popular and exclusive mobile app stores like Handango? Heard that people sell pirated stuff on eBay.. Not sure about the person you bought it from..
Anyway, Opera is a must have and ofcourse the best browser for Windows Mobile.
Regards,
Carty..
EDIT: Nevermind
oh yea. opera mobile 8.65 is free on the bit torrent sites
It is bad that unauthorised copies of not only Opera but other software too are floating around the web. In the longer run it is only damaging to the community. We should refrain from propogating this.
yea. I like the opera mini. Really fast and great to use. But only for unsecure site though.

I'm happy for you that you got such a good deal for yourself. Opera is great software, and as others said, it's the best browser for the PPC (and PC IMHO).
However, the fact that it is sold on eBay for a discount most likely means the software is pirated. It has been cracked and a keygen now exists for Opera 8.65, which means someone might have taken advantage of that, and Opera Software ASA (the dev. company) probably will see nothing of those 8pounds.
Not to spoil your deal, just some food for thought.

thanks a lot man.....
just a word of caution from buying "registered" stuff on ebay.
I once purchased a flickr pro membership on ebay for a fraction of the price and 2 months on, they suspended it and told me it was due to credit card fraud.
becareful about such things.
I think you can get a keygen if search for it.
Most probably that's what the guy is doing ))
How is thisversion of opera for data compression and what not? I used the java applet opera and it was pretty darn good, are all opera browsers good at reducing file size of pages?
has any one used the picsel browser ?
do you know where to find it if so ?
i hear that picsel is the most iphone like.

As far as I understand, the Picsel Browser was licensed by Samsung for Samsung devices exclusively, but has been "stripped" and cabbed up to be used on other PPCs.
If you google it, you'll find the .cab in one of the many forums on the net.
Personally, I do not think it's a great browser (don't throw stones now). To me it renders too slowly, and is somewhat awkward to use.
I think for general browsing, Opera Mini is King... then Opera 8.65.
just my 2 cents.
Happy New Year.

Hi, Just want to ask if anyone can help regarding the opera mobile zoom funtion.
The options are 25% (A), 50% (B), 75% (C) etc...
How can I use the shortcut on the zoom for the kaiser? As this will save me keep on going into menu>display>zoom
Is there a way of doing this with the kaiser?
Thank You

Barcode Pricing App

Hi all,
I have been using BarcodeZilla for a while now based on a recommendation from a friend, but I have to say I'm disappointed with it. The final straw being that I have just scanned a PS3 game (Call of Duty) and although it recognised it, it could not retrieve any pricing information. I think this defeats the object of the application; I want to be able to see something in the shop and make sure it's a bargain before I buy it.
So... what do you guys recommend as a better alternative??
Thanks in advance,
Baloo

I doubt any barcode scanner could have that function... That is how every other barcode scanner works. If I am correct in my thinking, the price of the item is unique to each store, while the barcode is the same, so basically, the barcode can represent a different price dependent on the meaning coded into the store's system.
Sorry for not being clearer - I want to compare prices to internet sites such as Amazon, so I can see prices elsewhere before I buy in a store.
Thanks for the quick reply
id love an app like this. surely there must be something out there........

As I understand it, that is what BarcodeZilla is supposed to do. Although it tries to get prices from Froogle (Google's shopping channel). But in my experience, it doesn't do it for everything.

Absolutely spot on, thanks
Mobiletag only searches .com sites. How do you get it to search .co.uk sites ?
So many applications can implement such functions, Zxing's barcode Scanner is OK.

[APP][1.5+]Supplier List

Supplier List
The supplier list is basically a bunch of sites that sell replica clothing and everything else that almost nobody knows about.I took my time to purchase from each site so I can assure you that none are scams. If you are looking for a supplier list well you have found the right place with a cheaper price than everyone else.In the app you will notice that there are text boxes well that is so you can copy and paste into your mobile web browser.I hope that everyone will have a wonderful experience using my app.

[Completed] Obvious scam, leeaching on xda brand/name (http://android-rom.com/) for Android 6

I thought I'd finally found a team, able to make my i9195i upgradeable.
http://android-rom.com/upgrade-update-samsung-galaxy-s4-minii9195.html
http://android-rom.com/
Turns out that it is a crappy scam, claiming to have found the info here on forum.xda-developers.com - however, the webpages is identical on all the models thay claim that they have modded and made Android 6 easily available on.
All it does, is lure visitors into signing up for various crap, and downloading some generic rar file in 3 parts.
All the 3 downloadable URLs for goo.gl are the same files - no matter which mobile you think it would upgrade.
They have also been found on these addresses:
http://www.60marshmallow.co/rom/mars...195i-7468.html
http://android-rom.com/upgrade-updat...ni-i9195i.html
I wish crackpots like the owners of those URLs would have their arms fall off, and their PCs die abruptly, no matter which ones they try to access.:silly::good:
Hi,
Thanks for reporting :good:
@bitpushr @MikeChannon Please take a look at this!

XDA Assist
Although I agree that this site is a scam, they aren't directly copying text from XDA, so there isn't much we can do for them. They just claim that they get their info from XDA, not too much we can do with that.
Nevertheless, thanks for the heads-up!
