In case : repeatedly, but no harm done..
Wothout case: Only once, and it got scratched on the front near the Bluetooth led and near the answerbutton below.
No errors !
dropped it once. the point of impact was directly on the yellow/red led which pushed the led inside the XDA2. no errors occurred. but i'm pissed!
you're all lucky buggers, i've dropped my xda twice in the last year. First time it cracked the screema nd had to replace that, and dropped it again this morning and the screen's messed up but not cracked, how do you lot get away with it, i didn't even drop it from a great distance and it was a capeted floor
Why i am asking the times you dropped it, beacouse mine was dropped a miniut ago. i was so nervous and worried. but there is no scratches or errors, when the time it was dropped, it restarted and search for something i found bad, but there is nothing bad happens, still i am worried and nervous.
if there's nothing obvious just after you drop it, chances are you're lucky and it'll be fine
Dropped it 5-6 times (Im not clumsy, really, Ive had it for 10 months now ), always in the standard case, which offers little protection on the sides, resulting in a number of scratches to the device on the sides. No errors however, seems like a tough enough device. If I put on a new cover it will be as good as new
Surur
i dropped my device once and a little peace of the black plastic is cracked.
Who knows where i can get the black peace from the back site of the phone? I have search here in the Netherlands but doesn't find it yet
Dropped the XDA I in its case dozens of times, no real damage. Unfortunately, I have been carrying the XDA II in the old case, and it fell out twice now and hit the pavement naked. No functional damage, but sure scratched it up.

The crack in the black plastic was probably not from the drop. A buddy and myself had the crack develop by the power button and then aother to where it made the piece fall out. Neither of us had dropped ours at that time. Since then only twice in the case. One no damage, second hit the corner by the voice recorder button. Drop on the pavement from about 2 1/2 feet. No functional damage but the silver part is definatley got the marks to show...
Dustoff
seriously, how do you buggers get away with scratches when mine always gets damage i have to pay for, i'd give anything to know taht if i drop if it won't cost me a penny
I have quick reactions and have always managed to stick my foot under it to cushion the fall.
lol, i have steel toe capped boots, i think it would be slightly worse
I dropped mine on concrete . . . no cover . . . naked. The antenna cover (black plastic) cracked diagonally up from the record button to the top of the back and then back down past the external antenna connector. It seems to be holding fast and working perfectly - but at some point I am going to want to replace it.
i dropped mine of a roof and its still works just damage to my case on the corner next to my green light so if anyone knows how to get a new one please let me know
a roof? this get's better, mine fell off a bed and it's buggered
i've never dropped mine. Didn't know I was supposed to.

So yesterday I went out to dinner, grabbed my trusty TP2 and put it in my pocket (uncracked), reached out location and pulled it out (cracked). I know there was no impact between the two locations as I simply sat in a car the whole way.
Anyone else have something similar? Glad I have insurance, that's for sure.
Is it possible you had the screen facing out in your pocket? What I mean by that is when I keep mine in my pocket I make sure the screen is against my leg and not facing forward.. Either way, good thing indeed that you have insurance..
it is, but its a coat pocket. I Just couldn't believe it happened as I've had a touch screen phone for the last...3 or 4 years without issue.
if you have made fun of someone that has a case on there hip that is why it happend to you if not then its bad luck.
do you really believe that crack could appear after no physical impact?
I've seen crazier things happen. My one thought was that its quite cold here right now. Either way, I definitely didn't have any impact that I felt, which shouldn't be enough to crack a screen like this did. I just expect more out of HTC I guess.
A screen protector like invisible shield would help i have it on mine...only thing i hear is that when used in ur pocket it can pick up a lot of lint but so far mine hasn't had that problem. any little bit of dust i see on it i just rub it off
I've got ghost armor, when they get back in stock and i claim my insurance i'm going to start using a slip in case.

Yep. A couple of days ago I got into a car, the TP2 in my pocket (which was hanging...unzipped jacket) closed the door and crack! Lovely cracks spread across the screen of my beloved and not even 30-day-old TP2.
I should have known better, The same thing happened to one of my Moguls earlier this year. The weird thing is, the TP2 still works perfectly. I tried to get a return authorization, but Sprint referred me Assurion, which means $100 deductible. The only good thing about it is that the TP2 is so new, they don't have any refurbs to send out, so I'm getting a new one, with one year warranty. From now on, cases only... no pockets!
Not sure what happened in your case,
A: My assurion deductable was $39... I could have sworn it was $89.
B: I need to find a good stiff slide in vertical case that I can just slide the phone into and out of in my pocket.
C: Assurion says they'll get my phone to me Tuesday (i.e. out Monday).... either they're full of cow chips or they purchased a stock just in case since Verizon is apparently trickling in shipments.
what was the temperature outside ?
if it was decently cold, and your phone was cold as well, cold things always crack easier, especially with a screen this big. smaller the screen, harder it is to break.
haha, well it was cold for this time of year. nothing terrible. about 20 degrees F. I know the size matters, I just couldn't believe it cracked so easily so I was really just fishing to see if its a possible problem. My replacement will be here today and i've been trying to find a good STIFF slide in vertical case I can just keep in my pocket.
I live in Canada and on occasion it gets down to -25 degress c here (-13F)
and I have left many cellphones out in the cold, with no ill effects (although screen response can slow down dramatically while it's cold)
the only thing that would crack it is a dramatic change in temp. over a short period of time, like 80 to -5 and I don't even know about that.
a screen skin is NOT going to prevent cracking, only scratches, the LCD glass is on the inside of the device and a think film doesn't add anything to stability.
my guess is it got flexed are banged in the wrong spot. possibly a few days earlier which weakened it and then lightly banged again when you put it in your pocket...
of course a defect in the internal glass is possible, when you get in to mass production of a product there are bound to be some defects.
mine on the other hand has traveled 10 feet across from say 4 feet up and hit pavement with no more than a 1mmx3mm indent on a corner.
it's in general a well build device (but boy was I sick when that first happened)
My advice, if your insurance costs money.. bring it in with a little story.
"I was sitting at a table and typing away I closed the keyboard, and I couldn't believe it a crack appeared across the screen"
As long as it is a solid crack across the screen with no obvious point of impact, I am pretty sure you will get away with it.. even with out insurance.
Football, Telus here in Canada has a thin hard plastic case for 15 canadian.
it will even prevent your screen from getting scratched. and makes that annoyingly placed "power"/screen blank button harder to push. I am pretty sure all the cdma devices are the same, but I don't know 100% I ordered a verison screen protector, and it fits. but the tolerances aren't as high for that
I had the same thing happen to me just a week ago. Slid it into my pocket and not even three minutes later, pulled it out to use the phone and had fresh cracks spreading across the screen. The phone did not come into contact with anything... Still a mystery to me as to how it happened!!
BTW... If you were looking at the phone in the upright position, the screen cracking started from the left middle of the screen and made it's way across to the bottom right corner. Just wondering if anyone else has had the same pattern.

To keep it short, I know, I know, I know, and I know. lol. (Just for an interesting note, being in South Dakota for College I've had it around that cold without a windchill... walking to class and having your eyelashes freeze in a block sucks.)
I was more or less just trying to come up with the most plausible excuse even though I was sure (99.999%) it wasn't the cold. It just completely blew me away that I pulled it out and there was cracks across the screen because at the point I hadn't even dropped the phone and as previously mentioned I wasn't leaning or really touching anything while riding in the car.
Also, generally its not actually glass that's on resistive touchscreen's as far as I know. I wasn't trying to insinuate that the screen skin would help stability at all (actually stiffness... don't get my started about this I've been dealing with stiffness matrices WAY to much lately in class).
I agree in general it seems quite well built, and agree if my case is isolated but I was wanting to make sure it was. A point of note is that the crack originated on the far right side and propogated in a couple of lines across the screen. Really my guess is that the method they use to connect the "glass" (a plastic..?) produces some residual stresses around the edges of the material.
Finally, where do you get the case you have? I really just want a slip case as I mentioned that is pretty stiff so that anything that may possible break the screen gets spread out over the area of the case. I am trying to stay away from a snap on hard case as I find them bulky, get your device dirty, and really don't protect what I want to protect.
Thanks for your input.

mine cracked middle right and propagated in a crack more or less horizontally across the device and another at about a 45 degree angle towards the bottom of the screen. The instances sound similar just reversed.
The reason your screen cracked was most likely it pressed up against the seatbelt buckle. I have had this happen a couple of times. When driving now I ALWAYS take my phone out of my pocket or remove the case from my belt. As I said, a couple times I left it there and when I buckled up, the buckle of the seatbelt was pressed against my right hip. A little bit of pressure, like from stopping the car, is enough to crack the glass.
So word to the wise, do NOT leave your phone in your pocket or on your belt when you get into a car. Or if you do, put it on the side of your body that is facing away from the seat belt buckle.

Haha, I already do this. Actually, I was in the passenger seat and the phone was in the right pocket of my fleece jacket. I'm just the jacked it what damned me because normally when I put it in my pants I have the screen facing my leg.
Is this something that asurion will cover?
Hi all i would just like to share my experience with this case..Last week i had the unfortunate accident of dropping my Samsung galaxy s phone in the toilet at home...
The phone fell out of my pocket and straight in too the pan and finally landed in the u-bend.
The phone was in total water submersion for not more that 3-5 seconds..my heart fell to the floor...
I quickly grabbed the phone from the toilet..turned phone off and removed the battery..water was all inside the phone.
I shook the phone and lots of water came out..my thoughts at this time was phone was well and truly buggered.
I proceeded to dry the phone on my radiator at home..sim-card,sd-card,battery and back plate all removed to aide drying.
Left the phone to dry for a full 24 hrs...before attempting to turn phone back on.
There was condensation inside the phone which all dispersed after 24 hrs. of drying out the phone.
And the big moment arrived of putting the phone back together to see if it would ever work again....
My heart was pounding at this time hoping and willing the phone back to life..pressed the power on button and the phone came to life.
Apart from having to do a reset on the phone and re-installing all my apps there has been no problem with the phone working 100%.
Phone has been working for well over a week now with no problems.
How lucky was I??...Im not saying that the Casemate Toughcase is the be all and end all in cases but im sure it went some way in helping reduce the damage that would have been caused by water ingress in to the phone.
happy case hunting...
Ewwww That Dirty Samsung Galaxy S
Lol..must add the water in toilet was clean...
The tough case was not the parameter influencing the luck in this case. As long as the rear speaker hole is not sealed, the water will always have a way inside the phone, no matter how many shock protection layers you have o the phone.
And generally speaking, tap water is not dangerous for the electrical parts of low voltage powered devices (like watches, phones and so on). The main issue with phones dropped in water is that the water will infiltrate in the optical dispersers of the LCD screen and on the screen connectors, generating blurry pictures or no picture at all.
I've learned something from your experience ... the water will not go in between the OLED screen and the digitizer .. which is a GOOD thing.
Great! I'm glad your SGS survived!
just take more care of it, ok? and don't drop it on Sea Water!

I have toughcase as well. Not the prettiest case, the phone loses it's "luxury" feeling, but you can certainly throw around the phone no problem.
I dropped my Galaxy S (with Tough Case) today, it fell directly on my hard tiles floor at a height around 70cm. I was really freaked out! I picked it up and it was still there like nothing happened (no crash, no slow, no reboot, no nothing) really happy that I chose this case!
thanksss a lot for content
I don't think this has been mentioned, but has anyone ever dropped their Sensation WITHOUT a case on it? Did you get any dents? I'm curious, cos I wanna expose this phone's sexiness, but this bodyglove case is stopping it.
I dropped mine on my linoleum bathroom floor once. No dents, but the dark finish on the back cover chipped off where phone hit the floor.

same happened to me today
So I'm assuming it would be worst on cement. Never mind, I'm keeping my case.
I've dropped mine on cement on a couple occasions from about pocket height. Didn't have a firm enough grip on it and it caught the corner of my pocket and pulled out of my hand. A couple very minor nicks in the aluminum frame were all that happened, screen is still flawless (unlike my friend's iPhone when it fell). If you want to keep the phone in impeccable shape, I'd leave the skin on. Damage is minor, but it does show.
Quite a few timed unfortunately. No dents and glass is fine. But the inside is somewhat damaged and switching my phone off and on is difficult. I'm planning to replace my back cover (which hopefully includes a new power button) soon and that that will fix the problem.

Hi guys.
Basically my problem is, today I was getting my MOT done, waiting around. Was using my phone to text, it was working fine.
Put my phone in my empty pocket, 2 minutes later, felt it vibrate and noticed I had a call coming in, but also the screen had a hairline Y shaped crack in it on the inside at the bottom.
No drops, knocks or nothing and its in a protective silicone case. I'm now having to basically hope that Sony believe me and let me know if its warranty repairable other than this its £50 - £60 charge for something that I did not do. Assuming they accuse me of dropping it.
Ive checked the net and it seems im not the only one this has happened to (albeit on other types of phones too).
Its only 4 months old from new, its a PAYG phone and had no insurance eek: I know).
What ground to I have to stand on if any at all ?
Bumped - Any ideas people ?
Has this ever happened to you guys ?

Thats more in reference to the exterior housing cracking, where as mine is the inside screen with zero exterior damage. But I suppose I see your point. Maybe someone has the same problem there due to heat....
If it's internal damage I don't see any reason for sony to reject your warranty. AFAIK if it was due to user mishandling then an exterior damage would be done before interior damages happen.

Thanks man, this is my view on it too. Although I imagine it wont be sony's.
The phone is only 4 months old and there is the general wear and tea on the case, the odd mark where its in and out the pocket and some scratches on the screen protector. But apart from that its immaculate. There is no significant damage on the case that would suggest It smashed of the ground.
If they tell me its broke because its been in my pocket then.... well, who doesn't put their phone in their pocket ?
As i say, its internal, screen has hairline crack inside, and went black at the bottom and also, unless I pressed the screen it just remained black.

Just thought id Update... Sony fixed it for free for me. Support I received was amazing TBF. New screen and its working good as new.
I know there are a lot of threads regarding dropped phones, bricked ones, soaked ones, scratched ones, etc. And I'm going to add another one... (feel free to close)
This thread is to talk about any accidents you've had with your phones, good and bad outcomes alike.
I rarely drop my phones but today I left my phone on the kitchen counter (like 4ft high) and I reached to get my phone and it fell face first onto my tile, bounced up, hit the corner, hit another corner, fell facedown again and slid two feet...
I had a cheapo rock tpu case and I'm glad to report that it probably saved my phone! not a scratch or dent anywhere!
Well...
A couple of weeks ago I accidentally stuck my keys in the same pocket as my phone. Luckily, the phone didn't get a single scratch from the incident. There is a long thread about it somewhere on this forum.
Today, however, when I went to clean my phone I noticed a really, really tiny scratch on the screen. I cleaned it yesterday too and it wasn't there. This means it came about for no good reason except that last night was Friday the 13th methinks. Anyway, the scratch is super tiny, and you can only see it when the phone is off and you use the screen as a mirror to see the sun or some other light source. I think a wet-application screen protector will get rid of it.
I haven't dropped it yet though! *knock on wood*

Painted my sis in laws house this weekend. Had my phone on the mantle of the fireplace where I was painting above. Rollers spray paint all over the place. . . phone has little speckles all over the screen. Not to mention I went too far down and hit my phone with the roller on the right side of the screen. . . can see 2/3 of the screen right now.
Luckily it is latex paint so hopefully I can just scrape it off without scratching the screen. . .
