Bluetooth Tools Always on problem - General Topics

Hi newbie question I'm afraid.
I patched my XD2 with this tool in order for it to talk to my headset. That works fine now.
But I don't understand the timer or battery symbols on the screen now ? How can I get into and change the settings for Bluetooth Tools ?
Also everytime I make a call or receive one bluetooth comes on automatically !
How on earth can I stop it from doing that ? Help appreciated !!!

Hello Ekko Star,
there is a readme file on Towa's web site for this program. Basically the little clock thingamy shows whether or not the bluetooth auto off function is active. If it is white, you will see it slowly turn grey and when it is all all grey, the Bluetooth is turned off.
On the other hand, if you tap it with the stylus, the auto off mode is disabled and the Bluetooth is on all the time (confusingly the clockface is always grey) :? .
The two battery symbols are for two different power profiles. Tap one of the batteries, then set your power setting like you want them (eg display off when on battery etc). Tap the other battery and you can set a a different profile (eg backlight always on etc). You can then swap the two profiles by simply tapping either of the two batteries. I use that when I use the XDA for sat nav, where I want the backlight always on, rather than have to dive into the settings all the time. Neat huh.
Praise goes to Tobias for his help to us all with his BTTools.

Excellent reply Camstech, Thx a lot mate.

backlight adjustment

Hello all. Fantastic forum and many thanks to all those contributing.
I received my O2 Xda Orbit 2 last week and I'm very pleased with the unit.
I only have two small issues with the device.
The first is more with WM6. As a left hander I would really appreciate being able to place the scroll bars in applications such as IE on the left hand side of the screen so that I don't obscure the screen almost every time I'm reading something. I don't suppose there's much hope of this happening though.
Secondly, I've read with interest the issue regarding the backlight on the keylock screen and I will try the registry tweak to get the backlight to come on at full brightness so that you can see the lock-code keys in daylight.
However, is there any way of making a short cut to adjust the backlight brightness from the 'today' screen? I'm finding that I adjust the backlight brightness for my office/indoors and then when I go outside and use the unit I can barely see the screen and it takes several attempts to get in to the unit and vary the backlight brightness.
It would be lovely if you could say press the central button and then turn the jog wheel clockwise/anti-clockwise to brighten/dim the backlight. Does any bright spark know if there's a means to do this or at least make backlight adjustments simpler?
Same goes for backlight on the Co-pilot software. As it's usually plugged into the car's fag-lighter socket the backlight's on full. Then when you drive at night it blinds you. It would be lovely to be able to press the central button and twirl the wheen to adjust screen brightness. All it actually does is to zoom in/out of the Co-pilot map.
Otherwise, a fantastic unit.
Hello,
First: If you find some software to handle the device easier for left handers please tell me. I'm always interested.
Second: If you install the GPRS Monitor Software (was delivered with my device) it places an slider for backlight on your Today Screen. So you can easily vary the intensity of your backlight.
Maybe not the best solution, but better than nothing.
Hope that helps...
P.S. Do you know a trick to disable the screen, so I can only hear the commandos? (Would be helpful when I go for a walk and get lost in the wood. In most cases I don't have some breadcrumb to mark my way home...)
Hi,
Yes, backlight control isn't all it could be on the orbit2/touch cruise (or any other windows mobile device).
For Copilot if you go into settings / map styles and select "automatic" under day night mode then it does behave better at night.
As for easy control over the backlight - after searching for a few days I noticed that the HTC Home screen that I'd already installed, had a backlight control app on the third tab. Each time you press on the app with your finger it changes the backlight intensity (in 4 stages)
Finally - The bluetooth light was really irritating me whilst the phone was in the car cradle at night. The following link discusses a means of disabling the light.

Backlight adjustment
Thank you for your replies.
I've been experimenting with the HTC home plugin.
I downloaded the version for WM6 that supposedly correctly the backlight adjustment this morning but have discovered that the backlight function does not work on my Orbit 2. Of course, I may be doing something stupid.
May I ask which version you're using and which works with the Orbit 2?
I've also installed the GPRS monitor software but I can't see anywhere where it displays a backlight slider on the today screen.
Many thanks again.
Lom
Backlight and gprs monitor
Sincere apologies,
I just discovered the backlight slider on the notification icon of the gprs monitor. Not the best solution but something.
Many thanks for the suggestion.
Hi, I wonder if there is a possibility to make the TC adjust backlight automatically? I know there's no light sensor, but can't the front-cam be used as one?
What do you think?
Or am I overseeing an already existing tool for this?
Many thx,
Eric
Same idea provided in "development and hacking" but no response!!
I think it would be a great thing
Unfortunately it doesn't seem to interest many people, both of my postings have so far been ignored... It's a pity, because I think it could be done by some pros inhere.

TomTom - Stop auto minimize when PPC switch OFF/ON

To everyone using TomTom not just in your car !
Is it possible to stop the auto minimize of TomTom's windows when you turn OFF then back ON your PPC screen ?
I know I can revert back to TomTom from the tray icon, BUT it is very annoying and boring to do that ! When you use your PPC outside your car, you often want to check just for a few second your PPC to check that you are on the right direction ! you do NOT want to have your PPC always ON !
And you must also consider a power limitation, when you are on foot, you do not have a car battery next to you to power up your PPC, so it is essential to be able to turn ON/OFF your PPC screen to save battery life.
-> but TomTom's window always disappear in that process, how to avoid this !
Good question. I'd also like to know this. Sometimes I get on a 30 mile straight or stuck in traffic, so could do with turning the screen off to save energy
I'm afraid this isn't a solution, but a quick workaround would be to set one of your ftouchflo gestures to tomtom. Then you could maximise it with a simple sweep.

Yes, a workaround, I have tested it but surprisingly it TomTom does not come back immediately like any other program when they are minimized !
It takes about 2s to comes back.
That's annoying when you are on foot and you just want to turn on the screen to check if the direction is ok.
Maybe if I remove go to tray icon of TomTom, it will no longer minimize after every switch OFF/ON of the screen.
Does anyone know how to stop TomTom tray icon feature ?
Slightly off-topic
Any way to stop ActiveSync when TomTom is launch?! Minimize I can live with, but ActiveSync is more annoying.
Has someone an idea, what causes Tomtom to minimize every time you turn OFF/ON the screen display ?
I would like to do a skschema script to fix this. But I need to investigate what causes this minimization ?
bump
I too am trying to find out if its possible to prevent tomtom minimizing and stay running when the backlight is turned off. Other GPS programs i use stay running and dont minimise as well as other programs in general so i am assuming its some kind of power saving function of tomtom. Im assuming it changes something or monitors something to auto minimize itself when it sees the backlight go off.
Hallo, i,m new here and i hope my message will go ahead.
So far I made following observance.
Today i nstalled a new beta version of mortPlayer V3.31 b75.
After i had installed mortplayer and it is running then TomTom does not minimise. after deactivating my HTC 7500; WM6 Tomtom 7
Perhaps it will show equal behavior on other systems
Good luck
nope, still minimizes and stops using GPS when screen goes off even with this version of mort installed. Maybe share the settings so i can see if how you have it set works for me.
Tomtom minimising
even on my Dell x51v TomTom does not minimise when I turn off for a sleap,If you mean the GPS mode shouldn´t be turned off while sleaping , so am I not sure wether it is possible, and even if it is ,it would drain battery .
What i mean is, i want TOMTOM to stay running while the device has the screen turned off. This way it will save battery life as i cant look at the screen while im on the motorbike.
Same Here
I also would like TomTom to behave like other application.
Because it goes to the tray:
- you have to try to hit that small icon in the tray with your finger, or pull out the stylus
- you can not use that Alt-Tab, to switch away and back
- it does not show up in task manager
- if you assign a button to it, it take a few seccond to show up (but it's instant when you hit the tray icon)
- waste Today screen space...
So like the others, I would appreciate help on changing that behavior.
Thanks in advance

[UPDATED 2008-10-09]Request for testing band switching of CommMgrPro in Raphael

Hi.
I am solving the issues of CommMgrPro with Raphael. The most important were.
1) CMP didnt change the band correctly (2G <-> Auto <-> 3G)
2) CMP didnt set correctly the speaker volume.
Any help to see if those issues are gone in this version will be wellcome with free licenses
Version V2.2(2008-09-12)
1) There are towers on each country with same cell id. So now the primary key for Cell Mode will be CellID + LAC. CMP will convert your database so make a backup before and will fill the lac information each time it finds a cell with lac equals 0
2) Compatibility with HTC Touch Diamond and HTC Touch Pro (Fixed Band manager, speaker manager, GPS manager and some GUI changes).
3) New option to repair the database.
4) New page for connections option (In connections/menu/options)
5) Option to disable/enable connections on roaming
6) Option to CMP startup delayed on page Options 3.
7) Option to Show/Hide the main window after start CMP.
8) Clicking on the higher part of the battery bar opens the battery page
9) Clicking on the lower part of the battery bar opens the battery page
10) Hide button is raplaced by calendar button.
11) New Today tab. This dialog lets you see the next events that will happen in the place, including calendar events, "Always on" schedules and other events (time limits, etc)
I´m on it!
I´m curious to see how much battery economy this will bring when switching off 3G? I´ll post my findings. What do you mean by speaker volume (in call?).
thanks
Belive me, it really save your battery if you swith off 3G mode. My battery lifetime increase from 8 to 26h.
Regards
B.

Hi Daniel,
I'm expecting my Touch Pro on Friday, I'll report as soon as I can.
Manni
So far so good on the band...
I´ve tried all day switching between 2G and 3G and it seem to work seamlessly, which comes as a huge plus for me to save on battery when 3G is not needed.
One thing I don´t get.. the HIDE button. CMP is hidden but how to unhide it without having to press the icon to launch it again.
Update: Yes it asks for the PIN but naturally it has to since it´s reestablishing a connection to the Celular provider.
Regarding band switching - it works sometimes because sometimes CM just reset himself (generate errors)
Another thing is that if I'm switching from 3g to 2g is asking me for PIN
When I'm doing it mannualy (GSM to WCMDA switching) system never ask for it.
B.
Hi
In the options page you can set the pin code. In this way CMP will enter automatically the pin when switches the band....

Well, I usually assign a hw button to CommMgrPro. Raphael has few buttons so I assigned long press phone button to CMP. CMP installs a Today plugin and a tray icon to manupulate CMP directly from today screen or bring it to front but you cannot see them with touchflo 3d. Sorry for not saying it before, you can set pic code in options dialog so cmp will enter pin code automatically....

No, system volume. You can control ring tone and ring volume as a action associated to enter/exit in a profile/place (using cell ID)
It was short and 5min test - I'll check everything once again tomorrow and let you know.
Regards
B.
For those who want to check the 3g effect on the battery live. There is a tab on CMP that shows graphically the battery evolution in different scales of time and if you touch two points it tells you the speed, for example, 6 units per hour. Ok, let your device during some hours in 3g and check the drain speed. Do the same test using 2g. As you will see battery live lasts double (or more) using 2g...
Great Commmanager Replacement
Testing for about 15 mins now and so far no problems.
Although the ON/OFF switching for phone with the "no time limit" function is not very responsive. I had to click another icon before i could switch it on again.
Great work on the battery graphs very useful
I will report tomorrow after some intesive usage.

hehe I see to tested it deeply. Turn on phone with time limit was disabled one month ago because the people requested in this way. Anyway I will remove the time limit dialog to avoid confussion....
CommManager replacement is only a little feature. The main one is let CMP (CommMgrPro) to set the state of the device (phone, band, BT, WIFI, speaker, connections, beam, messaging, brightness, ring tone, today theme, call forward, open and close programs, etc) depending on your current location by cell id (home, work, cinema, etc) and weekday/hour. In this way the state of the device will be different on your work&monday&10:00 than on home&sunday&13:00, isnt it?
Dani
Hi
I ve uploaded a new beta (b6). It warns if you want to change the band but you didnt set the pin code on options and a few more things. If you look at the screenshots on first post you will see there is a screen dedicated to the current (different than the battery page)with two lines, one for instant current drain and other for average. In this way is easy to check the current (in mA) needed for your device under different circunstances (wifi, band, gps, etc) and the temperature of the battery (important for the people like me having problems with device not charging if running gps/tomtom in a warm day).
ps: Talking about gps and temperature, finally I bought and A/C mount system so the battery's temperature is always low and no problem charging....
Hi Daniel,
So I received my Touch Pro today, and the first program I installed was CMP
Couple of issues:
- I installed without deactivating Touch Flo 3D, so I got an error message when the program first launched (I guess it couldn't launch the today plugin).
- If I deactivate the Touch Flo 3D, the icons in the plugin are stil QVGA. Same thing if you change the icons of the location (which makes it difficult to select the right one, as they are not for the software where the seem to be on the screen, if you see what I mean)
- Same thing for the fonts on mostpages / menus. Most of them are very small (hard coded for QVGA I guess) which makes them much harder to reads than on a QVGA device. The location line, or the function icons at the bottom of the main screen, are normal size. Everything else is small (for example, "there is a newer version").
- When Touch Flo 3D is activated, there is no directaccess to CMP (lower right globe icon), but I guess that's normal.
Otherwise, everything seems to work fine. I guess most of this is VGA related rather than Touch Pro related, but here you go, I'm coming from CMP on a Tytn II...
Edit: forgot to specify that the speaker setting and the band switching seems to work fine.
Hi
Thank you very much for your comments and help. Fortunately most of those issues are related with the sizzo vga skin so can be changed modifying the file skin.xml. Modify and enhance the vga skizzo skin is one of the pending things to do. Please follow reporting anything you see
Hi Daniel,
Done a bit more testing today, and I found out that there are two connections in CMP (T-mobile PicMessage and T-Mobile Internet), while I have only one connection setup by default (T-mobile).
They are both enabled, none of them is always on, and only the PicMessage is connected.
Is this normal? I'm quite sure I had only one on my Vario III. Which one do I need to get my push email? If I want to get my exchange email as it arrives, do I need to switch one of these to always on? (by the way, my exchange server is setup properly, and it works thanks to MrVanx...).
Hi Manni
CMP shows all the connectios, even hidden connection. Probably in the connections wizard your operator set up the second connection for other pourposes like mms, wap, etc.
If you re using direct push(like me) you dont need to mark any connection as "always on" because activesync will keep the connection alive....

Thanks a lot for the clarification!
I've tested both b5 and b6 versions on orygial HTC rom.
Discovered that :
1. Cannot clear history of battery usage in CURRENT tab - on BATTERY tab this feature works fine
2. Cannot verify database integristy - error message appear
3. Switching between G2 and G3 works smooth - tested VERY intensivly for last 3-4 days.
Small hints
1. there are two graphs on main screen - on the left is graph for battery and on the right for available field. Is nice of you if you can just create the link between battery graph on main screen and CURRENT/BATTERY tab on settings. This is common problem that Touch Pro battery has very short lifetime and I'm very interested in checking which action is draining my battery more than normal - graph is perfect place for this.
5. Last suggestion for booting TP and application starting process. Everytime when I'm performing soft reset or just starting device, I'm waiting to put my PIN as fast as possible to get my TP online, but THEN CommManPro LOGO is showing and grrrrrrrrrrrrrr I'm must wait next 5sek to tap my PIN.
You know, this is not a problem if you are using your phone for private, and there is no more than 3-4 calls from you sister/girlfriend/mother/lover by day, but I'm using my TP for buisness (and testing everything in the same time) manner so time when I'm available is critical - one missed call (because of 5sek delay) and couple of bucks less in my pocket
If it possible for you to just pospone CommManPro to starting just after TF3D it's nice!
Regards
B.

Is there an application that can easily change volume and screen backlight by a tap?

I am wondering if there exists an application which can easily change volume and screen backlight by a simple tap?
Well this is what im after: at night I always set my backlight to 10% and the volume very low. During daytime i set the volume at 80% and the backlight to 40%. My wish is to be able to switch between these setups fast, instead of having to access the settings etc. I guess it is some sort of profiling application, but the backlight option is a must.
Would also be nice if it had an automatic time setting.
Please share your knowledge if you know the answer to this.
Thank you.
MOD EDIT: tnyynt: Thread renamed! Please use relevant information in thread title!
very easy. the magic word is: profile
have a look here: http://www.pocketmax.net/phoneAlarm.html normaly the fr of v2.31 should coming out this weekend ...
THX bro!
I'll definately give it a go!
Quick Set Backlight & sound for HTC HD2
I built one myself for my HD2. Its called Quick Set.
No guarantee it works on other HTC's.
On the HD2, pressing the leftmost button for 4 secs brings up a screen where you can select 0-25-50-75-100% sound levels and 10%-automatic-100% backlight levels.
If you want to keep a possible Long-Send.lnk already present in \Windows, please save it before and restore it after executing Quick_Set.CAB
In that case Quick Set must be launched via the start menu.
See attachments.
Have fun
Bert
Quick Set Backlight and Volume for HTC HD2 Version 1.1
Quick Set for HTC HD2 Version 1.1
Copy Quick_Set.CAB on the storage card and execute it.
It needs Microsoft .NET Compact Framework 3.5 Redistributable, possibly you must download an install it before.
After installation, pressing the leftmost button for 4 secs brings up a screen where you can select between 2 sound- and 3 backlight levels by touching c.q. the appropriate speaker and hd2 pictures.
This can be done easily, e.g. while driving and using the HD2 as navigator.
After selection, the application closes and the original screen is restored.
The first sound level is 0 (muted) and selected by touching the muted speaker picture left.
The second is determined by the setting of the top slider and selected by touching the right speaker picture
The first backlight level is dim and determined by the setting of the dark bottom slider.
It is selected by touching the dark HD2 picture left.
The second level is auto and determined by HD2's light sensor; selected by the middle HD2 picture.
The third level is bright and determined by the setting of the white middle slider;
selected by the white HD2 picture right.
While driving it is not recommended to operate the sliders.
If you want to keep a possible Long-Send.lnk already present in \Windows, please save it before and restore it after installation.
In that case Quick Set must be launched via the start menu.
Have fun
OpaPiloot
wow. thanx mate.
Will try & review it!
edit:
Just tried it and the brightness setting works flawlesly. The sound works too, but it doesnt update the sound icon in the taskbar tho :-(
If you are still developing on this, you could add 2 more buttons to it. Night & Day mode. These2 modes could be configurable...
Example: Night mode, brightness level 0 sound level 0.
Day mode, brightness level 100 sound level 100.
Cheers. Great application mate! Keep up the good work!
Thanks for the compliment.
Quick Set was developed for a number of reasons.
I was dissatisfied with the implementation of some HD2 settings.
In particular, backlight and volume; the latter also because I used VolDpad to remap the volume buttons to Up/Down so that I had less trouble using MS Reader.
Setting backlight and volume when using Tomtom navigator while driving
compromises safety.
As a hobby, I wanted to gain experience with Smart Device program development tools.
I never thougt about the speaker icon.
It only shows "muted" if both the ringer- and system volume settings are set to zero via the regular controls.
Hence, if it shows "not muted", you are not sure what this exactly means.
If you want to be sure, you have to access the controls.
My conclusion is, that quick access to the controls is preferred, and that is what Quick Set is about.
Night & Day mode does not seem practical, because in general the actual requirements for sound and brightness depend on the environment and these are often not correlating with the time of day.
E.g. in my case the ringer volume is never muted, while the system volume is mostly muted if I don't use Tomtom Navigator; brightness is set to minimum if I'm in bed, otherwise it's set to Auto or maximum if I am outdors or showing pictures.
Also then quick access to the controls is preferred.
Adding more controls is not consistent with my design goals.
I omitted the sliders in my first design.
I only added them because a friend of mine with somewhat detoriated eyesight had trouble with the minimum brightness while Auto was too bright for him; moreover it enabled me to gain more experience.
For the latter reason I may do something about the speaker icon.
Have fun,
Bert
just tried it. the screen settings work but not the sound. using tmob hd2. it would be great if it works though.

Display stays on after call enters whilst in pocket

Hello everybody!
I'm new to the forum and want to share a problem I got.
Hopefully someone got a solution to it.
I tried to search the forum but couldn't find any similar thread so I start a new one on the issue!
General search on the Internet did show that I'm not the only one who is experiencing this!
Let's get started :
I usually got my z5 in my pocket facing the display to my leg for security reasons, I am working with hard and heavy objects. Everytime a call enters, the display gets activated and stays on afterwards. Meanwhile inside of my pocket several screentouches by my leg may turn on /off flight modus, flashlight, WLAN, data, several applications aso... I really got my phone messed up several times and only got lucky to not have suffered a real damage!
This is possible, because I use smartlock settings by location and Bluetooth headset! Also standby mode enters after 1 minute! Therefore after the activation of the display all apps and quick settings are vulnerable to my leg touching the screen!
I could set display timeout to 15 sec, I could deactivate smartlock settings, but what's the point of it?
These settings are made for usage without having to cause troubles!
Best solution I found in the Internet was to use a screen cover, well that should be the last option for me!
Any app that does the trick?
Any suggestion?
Thanks a lot in advance for any hint!
PS: all sensors are ok, double tap deactivated, smart call features deactivated
--- Resist the Empire ---
Problem still exists up to date, but solution found!
Hello everybody,
I have the same situation, but I fortunately found an open source app that does the trick!
Free without ads on Google play store :
https: [//]play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ss.proximityservice
Display stays off when call enters and proximity sensor is covered! Also works great while in pocket!
