As the weather gets better (colder ), i'm getting ready to run outside.. and plan to take my Nexus One for the ride (runkeeper + pandora). And I was wondering, all the runners out there, what do you guys use to carry your nexus one while running?
http://cgi.ebay.com/HTC-Google-Nexu...949370?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item33600f53fa
this is the case that i bought and use now. it works. it's nothing special. fits very well with a clear plastic case that i used to have. now i have a silicone one, and i need to take off the silicone to place the phone in the running case. the two surfaces make it real hard to place the phone inside it. the picture doesn't show that the top strap is actually not centered on the case, but more to one side. this does give you a space for headphone jack. i just found it awkward at first. i'm used to it by now.
if you run and you want a rugged case, there is only one option. Otterbox defender. i have one for my N1 and my ipod touch. both extremley good quality and semi water proof. see here http://www.otterbox.com/nexus-one-cases/
i bought a belkin ipod touch armband for my nexus one and its fits perfectly snug. best thing for running.
I use my nexus for running all the time. My shorts all have pockets, so I just pop it in there. I'm using Bluetooth headset, so there's no danger if the cord snagging on something and pulling the phone out. I used to use an arm band with my iPhone, but I just felt a little too g.I. Joe ;p
For what its worth, Cardio Trainer is well worth checking out. It does audio notifications of pace and distance and automatically pauses if it detects that you stop moving. Basically means that you don't need to pull out your phone while you are running. I've used several apps both on android and iphone and I think its best in show hands down, even better considering its free.

I use the sporty pal application. i like the fact that it has different types of a workout;running, bicycling etc.. Usually after running I switch to walking mode for my cool-down. This is the only instance that i take it out of the case.
I don't think that the otterbox case has like a holster clip or anything like that. I'm a bit too paranoid to carry my $500 phone in my pocket while i jog. Don't want it flying out and breaking, or even moving around in my pocket.
i am leaving to alaska in 2 weeks and gona work on a floating processor or deckhand on the boat... i have a contract on my fascinate and we all know the phone has incredible amounts of apps that can be helpful especially in alaska plus its good for pictures so im taking it with me... i just need a waterproof case. anyone know where i can get on? i googled but couldnt find the correct on
There isn't one that will specifically fit your phone and waterproof it while still usable, I would get a good case for your phone, and then buy a otterbox case to lock it in that is waterproof, they make them for PDA devices and should work for this phone

The problem with hard waterproof cases is that you have to take the phone out to use it, and that would be trouble. I would recommend looking for a waterproof softcase that you can use the touchscreen through (preferably with a clear back for use of the camera & a lanyard to tie it to yourself). Iphone cases are too short, you need one for a PDA, camera, or even the playstation portable.
The minimum dimensions for a naked phone would be 12.3 cm tall by 14.8 cm circumference, but I recommend you get a larger one to use with a case. For reference, the Otterbox Commuter case (strong but not waterproof) is 13 cm (5.1") tall & 16.8 cm (6.6") circumference.
Here are some links to cases I have been considering (I'm still holding out for one with built in headphone plug). Please let me know what you think if you get one.

Anyone else use the G2 with an arm band? I'm thinking of it since I don't want to go out and buy an ipod nano.
Which one are you using and how's the fit?
I have a feeling the G2 feels a bit too heavy for comfortable running, but it's worth a try to ask!
G2 is a bit heavy for armband imo
l think they cost around £10-20 so if you want to use it for running i would just
buy an ipod shuffle £30 or sony Walkman W-series £27 it is waterproof (if where you live rains all the time like here in scotland) and it doesnt have any wire.

^------------ Pretty much what he said. another option though, as it may sound silly is to have a light belt with a side pouch to put the phone in and keep it secured. you can probably combine that with your housekeys and necessary cards and have a 1 pouch for all.

oh god no not a fanny pack.
i meant like a vertical pouch that goes on your side not the front. something that is slimmer.. let me see if i can find some pics. brb
edit: something along the same vein as http://www.bargainstation.com/Produ...-Detachable-Shoulder-StrapNylonBlack-Platinum
not exactly this one, but the same idea. I have a plain one that has 2 slots. a big one for whatever electronic i have and a tiny one for keys or cards.
I just hold it in my hand, and I'm a girl. Not very comfortable but it's not the end of the world.
nano and shuffle don't have GPS on them and I can't google tracks or CardioTrainer on them.
I would like a functioning armband also. I can't hold the phone in my hand when I'm on a bike. I have a Nano for music, but I'm also wanting to use Endomondo or Sports Tracker

search this forum for iarmband to see what people think. They are $15 iarmbands.com
I used one for my G1 and loved it. When I upgraded to the G2, I got an iarmband to fit it. I also use my iarmband to 'mount' my phone on exercise machines at the gym using the strap doubled over and velcroed with the additional tab.
I began using a football wrist coach with my Touch Pro a few years ago and my G2 fits nicely, as well. (google or bing "football wrist coach" to see more versions than you'll ever need) I stumbled on this while trying to find something in my stash of extra parts to secure the relatively brick-like Touch Pro to my upper arm and reduce the flopping during runs. The wrist coach holds everything securely and I'm not constantly having to readjust it.
When running, I have it rotated so the clear panel is facing away from my body to prevent the phone from hitting my torso. When riding, I have it rotated so the clear panel is on the inside of my wrist, which is convenient for quickly glancing down at the screen while in the aerobars or drops.
Cons:
- the come in several sizes, so you need to find a sporting goods store to assure you choose one that will fit your device and your arm
- you may need an extension cable for your headphones if you want to listen to music on your device while running; the swing of your arm can pull the earphones out of your ears easily - not a problem while riding typically.
e.g. My high-end Shure earphone cables are modular and work perfectly, whereas my mid-range $50 Sony's cables are too short for running comfortably.
As always, YMMV

I have been searching for a running band for months. This looked like the best option on this thread so I ordered one today. I will provide feedback when it arrives.

Finally received and tried the iarmband. It works for my runs. I like that the touch screen works through clear screen cover. Issues are the headphone hole is not perfectly aligned. It is a little tight on the arm, could have more ajustability. Overall I am very happy with this solution, issues are minor. I would recommend.

I have the Arkon SM-Armband and it works amazing and is only $14.95. Maybe find it cheaper on ebay or amazon. Here is the link to view videos and purchase:

http://www.arkon.com/sports_armband/tmobile_g2_armband.html
I bought the Arkon SM armband for my G2...
I had read this thread plus the one over at androidforums.com before selecting it.
Here is the link.
EDIT, guess i need to make a couple more posts to put in a link....ok so here is the link text then for someone to copy if desired.
amazon.com/Arkon-Sm-Armband-Blackberry-Motorola-Smartphones/dp/B004VFFT3I/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1327086415&sr=8-2
It works ok, although to make it real tight like i like it I put on 2 wristbands first (even though its up on my bicep area), then slide the thing on. Also, any case for the G2 must be taken off for it to slide in....even then its quite a tight fit. Not something you just pop in and go, gotta work it a tad. This is due to phone width, not.....face size....I guess.
Overall, pleased for the 16 bucks i dropped on it.
I bought a cheap armband a while ago off Ebay similar to this.
Works perfectly for me. Touchscreen works through the transparent plastic window.
Had to cut off a very small piece of the neoprene for the headphone plug to fit.
Shopping for my brother for Christmas, and since I steered him into an Infuse a while back, I thought maybe a nice windshield mount would be a good gift in an appropriate price range, that he might actually use.
I gave him my old Siedio Surface case and holster, and he uses them all the time. So, I want to get him something that will fit over that. A lot of the online reviews I've seen for the mounts on ebay and Amazon say they don't fit larger phones (let alone with a hardshell case on them), so I thought I'd ask if any of you have had any luck with anything available out there?
Thanks in advance for any thoughts, ideas, questions, comments, etc!
Check out best buy mate there are ones where you can adjust the size of the car mount. You can try out the Universal ones, if it doesnt work out I would say just return to best buy. You do have one near you? Or maybe futureshop?

I've purchased all the Best Buy car mounts, and every single one of them is garbage. Crappy plastic, ****ty ratcheting systems, and completely unreliable mounts.
If you want a mount, go here and never look at Best Buy again: http://www.ram-mount.com/

That's exactly the kind of product I was looking for, and I am finding many of the components available at lower prices on Amazon.
Thanks for taking the time to respond!

Office max sell one that adjust to any device. With or with out a case. I Used with my ipod, BB and my infuse dont matter if you are using a Ballistic case or a Outer Box.

I have three... and they work beautifully.
I bought a Scosche IPHW9 mount just a few weeks ago at an Fry's Electronics in California. It was an open package item that I got for $15, great deal. The suction mount works great. It "hugs" your phone to hold it. and trust me, your phone will not budge. And can hold devices up to 4 inches wide, (and it looks like) and 2 inches deep. Comes with windshield mount and a vent mount.
I do say it jiggles a lot when you drive, so inputting while you're driving can be troublesome. But you get what you pay for and it works more than great for driving directions. I give it 3.5-4 Stars.
I use an otterbox defender case. Found a mount at best buy thats all black comes with the window suction neck and holds this phone with a huge case.

i got my window mount for my infuse from ebay and it holds the phone in both the incipio off grid and the ballistic case from AT&T. most window mounts will work and mine is really good quality. the ratchet system can be flaky at times but i have had plenty of window mounts and that is a common thing that you run into. hope this helps.
i use this one, i have had it thru 3 phones it rocks
http://www.proclipusa.com/deviceholders/deviceholders.aspx
you get a separate mount and then a phone clip
They are extremely hard to find. You will just have to get a universal mount like I had to
Hi all,
I'm looking to see if anyone has any suggestions on a case for my Nexus 4. I workout everyday and with my Galaxy Nexus sometimes the phone would fall out of my pocket when on benches, etc. I don't want that to happen with my Nexus 4 so I'm looking hopefully for a belt clip case. Maybe like a pouch w/ a clip. Definitely something soft on the inside and that doesn't scratch the phone.
I don't want an armband because that plastic cover just destroys your phone, and I don't like the arm bands.
Any suggestions? Thanks a lot!!

Nerds don't need to workout.
Just kidding.
There aren't that many accessories particularly cases for the Nexus 4 yet - you'll have to wait a bit or perhaps just invest in a smaller dedicated mp3 player which is what I do.

lol I was afraid that's the case.
I hate carrying around more than just my phone for use cases that are already featured in the phone (i.e music).
Thanks for the reply though.

Although I think I might use my old phone as a music player for the gym, or just use a cheap run of the mill mp3 player. Wouldnt want to accidentally smash my phone while DLing.

Hmm not really my "type" I guess.
I was looking for something like this: http://www.accessorygeeks.com/samsu...LPH-PUT2XLBK&gclid=CMPzspGY8bMCFaN_QgodPGMAUg
But of course I want it to fit the N4.
Does anyone know what closely resembles the size of the N4 so that I can buy a case for that phone since nothing is really out yet for the N4?
Thanks
DON'T WORK OUT WITH YOUR PHONE AT THE GYM!!!
I broke my SGS2 at the gym by dropping a 50lb dumbbell on it :crying:
I just stick mine in an android neoprene case (search ebay for neoprene galaxy s 3- the n4 ones are sold out )..then use sennheiser stereo Bluetooth headphones.

LOL, on November 13th, I was spotting my friend when he was doing military presses and he just dropped the weights when he finished... And we watched the dumbell slowly roll onto his iPhone 4S. It crushed the display.
I take my Captivate into the gym.
I ended up buying this for now!

Has a belt clip and a magnetic cover to hold in place. Also has microfiber on the inside so it won't scratch the phone. The important part here is the headphone jack WILL be accessible while in the case and it won't bend the headset or anything.
i would never take my nexus 4 to the gym for a couple reasons. 1. i dont want it to get crushed 2. i go to the gym to workout, not text haha

2) It's not about texting, it's called using Google Music
The phone comes with 16gb for a reason. I don't want and shouldn't need to buy an Mp3 player if I have 5,000 songs in the cloud. It's supposed to be used as a "all-in-one" device. But of course, do what you want with it...juss' sayin

I kept my 3GS around for this reason, I can log my workouts using Jefit and still bump music, In airplane mode it lasts a good week.
Parts are cheap too.
I used this guy for my Galaxy Nexus in an Otterbox --- perfect fit. N4 fits like a glove as well (obviously). Don't really understand how the plastic cover will destroy the phone, though.

I would avoid taking this phone in general into any gym or any serious physical activity, even with a case. Personal opinion.
I know this doesn't address the issue of a Case for the N4, especially one specific to gym type, but have you considered the motoactv? I have been using mine on a daily basis for the past six months for running and lifting. Plus I never enjoyed using any armband of any sort. I really like the clip and the watchband, although I do worry about smacking the glass face into a weight or falling during a trail run and breaking the glass. So far so good.
Besides the motoactv, I do see some gym goers making use of the uh... waist band pack thing, I just see it getting in the way often.
I know its a relatively cheap phone, but i'd prefer not to expose my phone, which I do use from time to time as a phone and put up to my face, to a gym type environment, it just seems to beg for some sort of bad news, be it damage or otherwise.
I use Bluetooth headphones, that way I can listen to music at the gym while my phone is safely off to the side resting on my bag. I used to use an armband, but this is much easier and safer.
