What does your battery do? - General Topics

Just a little poll about the battery in the MDA/XDA2. I used to have a XDA which gave me at least 3 days of life. Now with my MDA I dropped back to one day.

We are getting about a days worth of heavy use, mostly on wifi. Can get 2 days worth of moderate use.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
My friend can only use it for less than a day..
heavy user
I only manage a day at best - no better than my legend was actually!
I got this yesterday, was playing on it several hours.. and battery life is about 18-20hrs for heavy usage. Wall charging is quick, about 2hrs max charge.
It gets warm easily when accessing web. Is this normal on HTC Android smartphones?
Yes its very normal :=)
Just got mine for almost a week. The battery lifetime is 2-3 days (normal use). I hope though that after a few complete charges it will rise to 3-4 days...
Can testify to the same experience of warming up (especially when using wi-fi).
At first, the battery life of the HTC ChaCha was really crap! It couldn't even last 1 day (heavy use). But now I have this feeling that it is getting a little bit better after a few full charges. And it also recharges very quickly.
And what do you mean by "full charge"?
2hrs or more?
I'm not sure how ya'll are getting more than 12 hours of battery from this phone. See my thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1171136
Well, it lasts for me longer than 12hrs
I expected to have around 48hrs with it.
If awake time is how much is it up after charging, it say: 18hr 57min. Battery left: 44%.
So those of you getting a FEW days out of this, do you ever turn it off (say at night) or is the handset always on/idle?

I ditched the Captivate a while ago. Just sick of typing on a screen.
Switched to the Blackberry 9700 and now this phone.
I think the Blackberry 9900 will be a sexier device but I definitely prefer the Android over over Blackberry OS6.
During high usage battery life about 12 hours...
My father played angry bird for 1 hour and the batt drop to less than 50% (after full charge)
Update: Battery life of this device is ridiculous. Seriously.
Switching back to my BB 9700 soon.
I can get up to 3 days of batter life when the phone is completely idle. This doesn't happen too often so with regular use, I can get up to 2 days of battery life.
Heavy usage gives me around 6-8 hours of battery life, which is still much better than Blackberry phones. My old Blackberry was at 60% and it literally died within an hour of using GPS and turn by turn navigation.
Overall, it's a pretty decent battery life, but it does get pretty hot at times like others have pointed out!

My battery life is awful!

So I'm enjoying my overall experience with my Sensation but it's really not cutting it in the battery department. I've upgraded from the G1 and the battery life isn't any better. The G1 was great for a while but after being 2+ years old the battery would barely last a full day with minimal usage and every setting off, I could no longer take it. It became so frustrating I had to upgrade for mostly that reason, not to mention the lack of features, and the fact I've had the phone since launch lol. Needless to say, I feel like I'm having the same battery issues as before. For instance I took the phone off the charger this morning and started reading some post here on XDA via the app and after 1 hour and 36 minutes my battery life went from 100% to 67%. I love the phone and while yes battery life is important to me I almost refuse to handicap my phones full potential for it. What should I do?

Search here and in the Q/A forum about getting better battery life and what to expect out of your battery. There are a ton of discussions already with a lot of helpful information for you.
Remember if your device is new... it takes a number of discharge/recharge cycles before your battery gets good life.

plenty of battery threads already.. 1:36 with a 33% battery drain would extrapolate to >4.5 hours of display-ON time. Most ppl consider that pretty (or even VERY) good. If you are going to play the "won't handicap" card so soon, probably no hope for you except get some other phone for which it is easier to get a monster/fat battery.
I came from a G1 as well. I think battery life is MUCH better on the Sensation.

The only way to get through a whole day of moderate-heavy use with this phone (and most Android phones) without crippling it is to carry a spare battery or plug in the phone throughout the day when near AC power... Sad but true..

7 hours of screen on time? That's not possible with this phone.
juice defender try it
According to these benchmarks, the Sensation battery is 97% of the Verizon iPhone 4 (the only Iphone variant which had data for comparison)

I'm with you. I can get 8 hours out of the phone if I only have 2 hours of on screen time. My average, with medium to heavy use, is 6 hours and change with 3 - 3 1/2 hours on screen time. And this is with the screen brightness down to 75%. There is no way there is 7 hours straight of on screen time with this thing IMO and from experience.
NOTE: I am piggy backing, but i am not sure if the person is referring to 7 hours on screen time or 7 hours in general.

I'm pasting a post I posted in another thread about my battery life:
Ok... I have a total of 3 OEM batteries. One that came with my phone and 2 other spares. The one that came with my phone is about 3 weeks old, My newest one is only 3 days old and the middle child one is about a week and a half old. I basically charge them fully then wait until it drains fully and turns off before switching the batteries.
Someone said that after a while battery life gets better. I am proof of that. When I first got my phone I was lucky if it lasted 8 hours and amazed if it lasted 10! Last night my 3 week old battery lasted over 14 hours with moderate use! The middle battery that's a week and a half old lasts about 10 with moderate use (same like the first, only getting about 8 in the beginning) The newest one (still going through the 5 charge conditioning cycle) only lasts about 6-7 hours tops.
I dont know if it helps(or hurts) but since I always have an extra battery with me I never half charge them(especially during the first 5 or 6 charges). I always will let it drain then switch
I moved from the HTC Evo 4G and batterylife is much much better with the sensation. Light to moderate use after a 12 hour day i have between 20 and 40 % left. I ordered 4 extra batteries and xtra chargers so i would have extra full batteries at home and at work but i havent needed them. I was so used to the evo that i wish i would've waited on ordering all the batteries... I just assumed it would be about the same...Way better than the evo though. I have friendstream (twitter and facebook) syncing every 3 hours, weather 3 hours and at unlock, mail/calender syncing.( no news, no tell htc, no android backup) i was amazingly surprised. yay sensation!

Check out the above for a possible cause of excessive drain.

I have specifically held off from getting another battery cuz I wanted the original one to settle. Now that I have a decent idea of the life span I will look into a new one. I am not sure if I want to by the off brand 1800 one every is talking about or get raked over the coals for an HTC one. decisions...
here's what I've found after having the Sensation since day one. If you are at 2.5 hours of screen on time in the battery stats, chances are your battery is below 30%, and most likely below 20%, no matter what you were doing with the phone (barring constant video playback). I average about 2-3 hours of display on time each day, and I get about 14-16 hours consistently. I sync gmail, email and facebook, pulse and weather auto update. I use wifi and wifi calling constantly.
I set my screen brightness to about 40%, give or take.
I can live with this as it gets me from 5am when I go to work until when I go to bed, which is really all I expect.
I will look into the evo 3d battery though, as that seems like a logical replacement given its higher capacity and compatibility with the Sensation.

Andida 1980mAh Extended Battery Review

I've been testing the Andida 1980mAh battery that I ordered from Obostore (very fast shipping in 5 days, surprisingly). I am on pure stock, no custom roms or kernels.
In short, I'm not impressed. I've consistently only been able to get an extra 1 hour or so from the battery vs. the OEM LG battery, but have been experiencing many reboots/freezes with the Andida. Prior to using the Andida, I'd never gotten any reboots or freezes on my phone, yet the very first time I used it, the phone rebooted after 5 minutes. From then on, every few days, I would get a reboot or a total freeze during normal usage of my phone.
Thankfully, after returning to the OEM battery, these problems have not persisted. These results have been gathered from a testing period of 2 weeks, 1 week using the Andida and 1 using the OEM battery. My suspicion is that the voltage on the battery is somehow causing these problems, though I admit that I'm no expert or engineer.
Hopefully this information helps anyone hoping to buy the Andida. I would recommend it only as a very cheap, last-ditch tool for some extra hours of usage. By no means will this battery serve for long term, stable use (at least in my case).
I have the same battery running unrooted and stock LG OS. I get about an hour and a half more out of my phone but I have not had any of the issues with reboots that you have had. The battery has been great for me.

I get about 1 hour more of battery life

if you look at the run times that the manufacturer give you you only get like 1-2 more hours anyway its not going to be a huge improvement. its the biggest battery they can stuff in there without ruining the lines on the phone
Just ordered one, an extra hour or two is good enough for me. Plus I can carry the OEM for a spare.
Hello Everybody
i am also looking to buy this battery.
Please post your recent findings about the battery.

i ordered one from the uk on ebay, should be here around next week, also i ordered the 1900mah battery which is better than the one that comes with the phone
My experience with these extra-large batteries with alternative battery case, is that they last longer than the original battery for a few weeks/months then last much less to the original.. Soon enough wont even charge.. They have a very short life.
I had one for the N95 8gb years ago.. came also with the extra-space back-lid.. sticking with the official mAhs...
most are the same
i have bought many many batteries for my previous mobile phones
all of them had a good capacity for some weeks or little months
after 3 months last less than my original battery
that kind of capacity with that price is too good to be true
so even if you buy this one dont quckly say it is good
just wait for 2 months of use and then have a conclusion
hope it was helpful
I've had mine for over 6 months.... Still the best battery I own. Easily lasts a whole day of interneting and playing games. Only time it came to low battery was when I was using it to record several hours of 3D footage.
Only issue is the size and weight.....

Battery

Hey guys
When I first got my DS battery life was pretty good at some between 4-5 hours. However recently I've noticed that it runs somewhere between 2-3 hours at best. I haven't made any drastic changes that could impact it. eg brightness, CPU use. Could I have a faulty battery or bad connection?
Thanks
How old is the phone?
Mines about a year old and replaced the battery a week or so ago soooo much better
