Battery - HTC Desire S

Hey guys
When I first got my DS battery life was pretty good at some between 4-5 hours. However recently I've noticed that it runs somewhere between 2-3 hours at best. I haven't made any drastic changes that could impact it. eg brightness, CPU use. Could I have a faulty battery or bad connection?
Thanks

How old is the phone?
Mines about a year old and replaced the battery a week or so ago soooo much better
I think I've discovered the secret of life - you just hang around until you get used to it.

My battery looses capacity too.... Change it....
You run custom Rom?

Bartery life.... how is it?

I have the g2 and the battery life is great. Blows my old vibrant off the planet.
THinking of getting the MT4G due to radio issues on the G2.
How is the call quality and battery life on the MT4G?

You should probably check out the other thread here in this section.
I came from the G2 as well with data and signal problems and floppy hinges. The battery is not as good as the G2 but not bad. I'm still waiting on my OTA update that is supposed to help the battery and some other issues.
I don't regret the change to MT4G
Thanks. I'll search for the link when I hit the computer. Rally like the g2 but man the radio is bad.
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
Even though the G2 has a smaller battery, the G2 will have better battery life because the CPU is clocked at 800 Mhz as opposed to the 1000 Mhz of the MT4G.
How's the call quality/radio?
First phone I can make it through a full day on with moderate/heavy use.. Buh bye vibrant... Better call quality I am told by sone people I have called...

I am seeing remarkably bad battery life. I am coming from the MyTouch 3G and that device lasted longer then the 4g.
Every six hours the device needs a charge.
I talked for 17 Mins and used it lightly this morning. Unplugged at 7:30 AM back on the charger at 1:30 PM. This has been the same way since I got the phone. I have also swapped the battery for a new one as well and got the same results. I cannot imagine that it matters but this is the purple device.
Perhaps I have a defective phone? Is that possible / likely?

I did condition it, both batteries in fact were conditioned and showed the same issues.
Thanks

Weird, while I'm not getting quite as bad a battery drain as you, I have noticed an increase since I've turned off any auto sync option that I don't require, which is pretty much all of them.
The first day I had my phone it was almost dead in ~12 hours with moderate/light usage... it's been lasting longer and longer every day since... yesterday i got ~22-24 hours out it i think and i charged it finally at like 15%. This wasn't the heaviest usage but i'd say it was at least medium as i didn't use it at all for about 5 hours but then I had it on wifi calling and using it for angry birds and stuff for quite a while later in the day.

[Q] case with (backup or extra) battery integrated (like the iphone one)???

Hi,
someone knows about a battery case ..i.e. a case with an integrated battery like the one available for iphone, for HTC DESIRE HD ?? ( www .powerskin.co.uk/power-skin/mili-power-skin-black-and-blue.html )
seen my poor battery life, that battery case would be the optimal solution for battery life. (it seems that there is no way to make a 1600-1800mah replament battery for our smartphone)
that would be simply awesome, but i doubt youll find one specifically for the dhd...
I had poor battery life about 5 hours ish so rooted it and installed a new kernal now I get up to 24 hours depending on usage least I've had is 12 hours

If someone plans to build this, please add a decent speaker too.
This is something that I've been finding for a long time, so far no luck...

awesome! could you share more details of the rom and kernel you are using? i'm a very heavy phone user, and the current battery life is too bad for me, thanks!

wow, ankr batteries... (must buy)!!!

hi guys,
I must say I'm very very very impressed with my aankr batteries I got from ebay.
with the stock battery, (lastest insertcoin rom)
battery would drain 7~8 % on light use.
bit better on cyanogen mod but prefer Sense over anything else.
got 2 ankrs yesterday
fully charged (first cycle)
battery drain is significantly better.
2% per hour on light use ( some music, podcasts, as before with the stock battery)
I think everyone should get one of these.
Already a thread...

I am thinking of picking one up myself shortly as i now have my CPU running at 1.5GHz funny enough i have not noticed much of a drain battery life wise but still struggle with a full days use.
From Sensation Accessories Forum: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1128568
srry it was an repost.
i was just too excited with the result.
8-4pm i have about 40%left
(with stock battery it went down to 15~20%)
since it's my first charge, it will only get better
Thanks and srry again for repost.
I think the anker batteries are the best thing to happen to the sensation, besides cm7 lol. But with the anker battery I can get 20 hours on a single charge, no BS, I have the screen shots, just don't know how to attach them in XDA app
Sent from my Sensation using XDA App
You can get way over 20 hours. I've had 30+ out of it loads of times. (with fairly light use obviously)
Sent from my brain
yeah I can.vouch for that ....I just got it nd just flashed the messy rom aosp rom and first charge lasted over 20 hours I'm on second cycle now and I'm over 23 hours and I believe at 35 % left ......not even using special kernel ....but I'm gona install new faux kernel and I'm hoping to get Even better life .....

remember boys, to go through 4-5 charge/discharge cycles, like recommended by the instruction manual. it gets better after that.

i think battery life is awesome on this phone, Ive never had such good battery life with any other smartphone..
I dont think it needs extended battery.
I think HTC actually tried to eliminate battery drain before making a non removable battery.
I second that, getting great battery usage.

Mobile all the way
There will always be people who want an extended battery, but its really not needed unless you are using your phone to make 50 pho.e calls in a day or you play 3 hours of games. most people will be more than happy with the battery life provided by the One S.

no need for a Extended Battery here, where would the battery go if there was one
If you are in bad cell coverage (which eats more juice) or are a heavy user, pray god invest a few bucks into a Gumpack external battery. That thing is half the size if a pack of cigs and stores enough juice for 2-3 full recharges on the go. Its one little more gadget to toss into your daypack and remember to keep charged but its well worth the bother. Certainly easier than speculating about a bigger battery while batt life is fine for most users.
And I am not bashing, if you have a 1.5h commute to work and spend it playing GTA3 i can see where the juice goes. So a gumpack battery would be your best approach, with the current 28nm Krait architecture there is not a lot to gain batterywise really. Plus, the AMOLED sucks less juice on dark images, something to keep in mind when picking a background image I think.

Battery Life

Hey guys. SO ive been using a hand me down Captivate recently, but coming from a Blackberry, the battery life seems very poor. I know the phone is over 2 years old so I should get a new battery, but even with a new battery, what kind of stats are you seeing with the captivate?

Highly depends on your usage. I personally get about a day to a day and a half of battery on slow days. With some more moderate-high usage, it's usually about 8-9hrs with 2-3hrs of screen on.

Depending on the ROM I'm running I've seen battery life between 24 and 36 hours with the stock battery.
I bought a 3750 mAh no-name battery pack for $10 (plus shipping, lol) on ebay and constantly get over a days worth with moderate use (over 1h screen-on time quite often) Be aware that this battery was considerably larger than the stock one, but did come with a plastic cover that snaps in place of the stock one.
mine lasts about 1.5 days, with a new aftermarket battery
What firmware are you using? I noticed drastic increases going from GB to ICS and JB.
Have you turned off your data? Are you running stock? As mentioned above, power management is much better with ics and jb.
When I got my captivate, data could kill the battery in a about 6 or 7 hours without turning on the screen.

I just picked up a 3500mah ebay battery, combined that with juice defender and gsam battery monitor to finally go a whole day without charging. Im running a JB rom and use my phone regularly with work days being up to 16hrs. Before all that, I'd have to watch my usage to get a stock battery to last a whole day for me.

The Cappy's battery are faily small for all the new features 4.2.1 is bringing. You gotta keep in mind that more features = more battery drain. If you can get 2.5-3hrs of screen on, be happy!
If you really want insane battery life, get back to froyo and flash Firefly

You said "before all that". I understand from that, that you meant before the JB rom.

I understand battery consumption will be higher with JB than a previous version like froyo. The "before all that" referenced the new battery and apps. I've been running various JB roms for quite awhile now.

Have gotten between 15-18 hours on my battery from new till now (2years old)
With the exception of a few roms (mostly early stages) its been pretty consistent and based more on wifi/mobile data than anything else
My advice is to buy a new battery. Even if it's the same capacity as the old one, it will have less cycles on it, and batteries don't last forever. Also, I would stay away from these cheap ebay batteries. More than likely they are either recycled or they're subpar sells that have been relabeled and sold. Either way, they're not close to the mAh reading they're advertising.
I bought the 1800mAh battery that fits in the Epic 4G and I get more than a day with my usage. Just have to turn off google maps location report, as that will kill your battery in a few hours. Google now still works without it enabled.
actually, if you buy from a reputable seller, my experience with batteries on EBay is very good. I got a 1600 maH battery with 3 year warranty for $4. I've been using it for 8 months, no problems, good life.

And a small form factor. if you want to make it thicker, there is that 3500 mAh battery with bulky cover. I never went that route by others say it works well.
