Question Which rom should i use for a daily driver - Redmi Note 11 Pro+ 5G (peux)/POCO X4 Pro 5G (veux)

Hi all!
I been thinking about getting a custom rom on this phone ever since I got it (it's my second xiaomi, after my first one I thought it's probably the best to skip MIUI entirely). But since then I couldn't figure out what to get. Some say EvoX is the best, CrDroid has some cool features but can't find much about it being a daily driver, I heard lots of bad things about the PixelExperience and I'm holding out on LineageOS until an offical port comes out
Main things I'm looking for:
Camera to stay as good as with stock
Fast charging with all of it's 67W glory
5G
Privacy features
Thanks in advance
Logan

best in what?

how bout Evo x as your daily driver...?

I use elixir and its working great for heavy daily usage

Honestly? MIUI EU rom works flawlessly for me, fast enough, stable and has a few extra mods. Custom ROMs aren't what they use to be... Bugger all features and lots of bugs due to half-ass development and the fact this isn't a hugely popular device.

Most stable custom rom for daily usage

Hey everyone,
I am bit confused with all these custom roms available for Honor8.So I would like to ask you which rom do you think is stable enough for daily usage and why?Are there any problems/bugs?
Thanks in advance

There's no stable custom roms for H8 at all. A lots of bugs, like cameras not working. You should stay on stock

As they said.
I've tried almost all of them and the closest to stable i got was AOSPA which crashed and rebooted randomly when using the GPS.
The Remix Resurrection/Lineage based ROMs would lock me out whenever I had a passcode turned on. What ever it tried to do after unlocking would crash and spit me right back out to the lockscreen.
Hopefully, the Oreo update comes soon, and, hopefully, it comes with Treble so that the Devs will be able to get the ROMs working flawlessly.
I don't know what these guys are talking about, but I've been using CarbonROM as a daily driver for several months now. I have working Magisk, working cameras, working basically everything - except for VoLTE. Though I've heard the VoLTE bug is only applicable for my model (FRD-L04), so you might not even have that. Give it a shot if you want, it's worked fine for me other than the VoLTE.

You failed to mention the camera is sub par on that, and every single custom ROM because it only uses one of the back cameras. All the nougat ROMs have simple bugs that the "developers" have failed to fix because they give up.

Well yeah, it's a custom ROM - of course the devs don't have access to Huawei's proprietary camera drivers. That's not a bug, it's just the nature of custom ROMs. If OP wanted the best of the best camera quality, they would stick with stock, but since they asked for the most stable ROM that people knew of, I recommended one whose developers had indeed worked out the majority of the issues to where I could only identify one minor one from my months of use.
I used customs roms for the shortest amount of time as daily drivers because the battery life really was bad, sound quality didn't flash me (not even with V4A) and the camera is truly sh*t on custom roms too.
If you aren't one of those people who really can't live without stock Android then stay on stock, we'll probably get Oreo or at least EMUI 8 soon.

Returned To Stock-Rooted.. Is This The Perfect Blend?

I've Tried All The Major Custom ROM Players..
You know their names.
And for the most part.. they were "Glitch-Free" and fairly stable.
Lots of goodies to play with and adjust.. even one offering the "Pure" Experience.. for those that want it Bare-Boned.
And.. even though they were bloat-free, light in weight and smooth.. there were still complaints about this not working or that not working.. or, users asking if they could have Gestures working as smoothly as Stock.. both Camera lenses functioning etc.. etc.. :crying:
It's in EVERY thread.
I'd been mixing and matching so many Kernel's and ROM's trying to achieve... what?
That's when I decided to Re-Encrypt my software throw on 9.5.17.. and Re-Root the darn thing..
A Fresh Start..
Not only has everything been scrubbed clean.. but battery ( Greenified ) Smoothness ( Nova-Prime ) Customization ( Themes ) all really work better than I remembered.
Even with the bloat.. ( I could remove it.. ) everything transistions just as fast as it did with the customs.
I Can Always Go Back.. to C-ROM's and my Anti ( 3 ) is not an issue.. but,
I really don't see a need to.. Stock-Rooted ( IMO ) offers the best Stability / Customization Combo for the XRN5 / Pro.
For most people including me, it's just being close to raw aosp.
I admire the smoothness of miui edge gestures and some goodies that miui brings. But other than that, i just can't stand the ugly side of it, like why an oem will show ads when i download something with stock browser? I know i can use other browsers, but why would mi do that? Did i got the phone for free? So, they put ads to monetize?!
It's good that now i see threads for debloating miui easily but i don't see myself going back to miui anytime soon. Even now that mia2 Cam's been ported and working quite smoothly, i see no reason to go back.
Btw, it's just personal preference. And if stability is what's someone looking for, they should go stock. But it also can be achieved from aosp roms, no doubt. Highly depends on user and how/what they use it for. I have no major problems with the roms I've tried so far.
Aosip, havoc, dotos, now bootleggers. Aosip is the most perfect solution for me.
Cheers.
Understood..

Great Post..
Can't disagree with your opinion..
I have no issues either way as far as browsing is concerned.. even without the use of Adaway Rooted or Non-Rooted variants.
MIUI got the Gestures right... that's for sure. The Customs can't touch MIUI Smoothness and Sensitivity levels.
And Batterylife for me is 13% ( tested ) better going factory fresh as well.
Thank Goodness there is a road for each of us to get to our destination! :highfive:
Cheers.
Been there, done that. I remember the good old days when stock ROMs sucked big time. Not so long ago, I pretty much threw MIUI into oblivion on my RN3 because performance was sub-par. Now, it's a completely different world in which I find myself at home when using Oreo-based MIUI 9 and even 10.
All I need these days is the latest stable Android release, Magisk (+ a couple Modules), Nova Launcher, my apps and I'm good to go.
Gone are the days when I tweaked and tweaked the hell out the HW and SW to get decent performance.
I totally agree with the OP. I tried few of the major custom roms and while they were mostly bug free and stable, oreo based stock miui 9 and 10 beta is simply awesome. Miui 10 beta is giving me the best battery life and the most smooth performance, even with tons of bloatware.
Yeah this is the setup I have used since I got this phone. Stock os is stable and fast. Haven't tried any custom Roms yet . If things go south in miui 10 only then will i switch to other roms
I am waiting to get my bootloader unlocked and want to root stock.
Will I be able to OTA upgrade without losing root? Or what's the process here.
Wish there was a tweaked, debloated, zip aligned stock rom..

Do you really need greenify with miui? It has some background and memory management itself, i think greenify is more suited for AOSP LOS etc. But thats just my opinion.

I agree what Incogn said. MIUI doesn't need Greenify as it is pretty aggressive. But if you want it there is a Magisk module you can download from Magisk Manager itself. It makes Greenify perform way better like it works with Xposed.

If its spy rom and you are concerned why are you using google apps? The biggest data stealers there are. Im quite sure you also use facebook, so hipocricy here is very high. Even if it was spy rom(which is utter nonsense), they cant steal anything from you that google or facebook already didnt.

Stock custom rom camera compared to stock miui SUCKS. Gcam doesnt work on global, and Mi A2 port has 50 pages of user reported bugs, so no, its quite far from fine if you want stability.

is general gsi roms good enough

is general gsi roms good enough for our device or is it better to wait for specific rom that is well modified for our device??? In other words is there any general gsi rom that is good enough and has major hardware parts working (camera, wifi, hotspot, brightness, bluetooth... Etc) ???
Thanks
Has anyone tried Havoc OS ROM ?
Generally speaking they're good enough to use assuming you can get them installed on you phone. I was using Phh's unofficial Ressurection Remix Rom for a while, and the biggest issue I had was the fingerprint sensor acting as a mouse button when the screen was on. Otherwise everything was very smooth and worked like what I expected them too. Battery life might have been a bit worse than it was on MIUI. I've had similar results on all of Phh's ROMs, although I haven't really tried images from too many other developers.
Installing them can be a struggle. It seems like half of the time I try to flash one I need to wipe everything on the phone to get it to work, but other times I can flash them with no issues. That's not specific to GSI images though. I've probably wiped my phone (system and storage contents) half a dozen times because I accidentally soft bricked my phone trying to flash something. That's probably more user error more than anything else.
I have also never been able to get gapps to flash on a GSI ROM. I've always had to use ones with them built in.
I ended up going back to MIUI because the GCam mod wasn't working properly, and a large reason for buying the phone was for the camera. I'll probably go back to Treble images once the major ROMs start releasing Pie variants, assuming we don't get some native ROMs first.
Anyone else get a trebble rom to work yet?

I flashed a lot of them. Most have bugs as you can imagine e but that's not the rom's or devs fault.
I had installed
Official Resurrection ReMix
Phh treble AOSP
Pixel Experience version 8.1 and 9
Polaris Pixel experience
Google extended
All with similar bugs/features. The 8.1 versions work pretty well, the pie versions have all the same bugs. But they are daily driver material in my opinion if you can do without some functions. Some of them have enough no working camera, others have trouble with NFC and bluetooth.
Others have distorted sounds (which can be easily fixed).
Just browse the treble development thread and find out what fits best for you.
I'm using pixel experience official 8.1 and 9 unofficial (on two separate MiMix2S) and so far it works for me.
I think the best by now is the official 8.1 PE rom. Most of the things I'm using do work really well. Now I'm eagerly waiting for the Polaris Pixel Experience Pie rom...hope it will arrive soon.
I think we own a not very popular device so devs are rare but there are some of them doing a great job and working on those issues. Maybe some could donate some bucks like I did to keep them motivated and show some appreciation for their hard work.
I've had the best experience with the Benzo 9.0 ROM.
How is the camera on GSI roms? One of the reasons I updated from the mix 2 to the mix 2s was for the camera.
Is it comparable to MIUI?, or total ****?
I am using the AOSP 9.0 rom by @phhusson: https://github.com/phhusson/treble_experimentations/releases
Apart from the camera, I'm not aware of any known issues. Bluetooth, NFC, Sound and Calling issues have all been resolved (thank you very much @phhusson). I guess there are other issues I did not hit yet
The camera app I use is from here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/xi...ed-p-mix2s-t3838406/post77529938#post77529938
Its possible to take good pictures (without color issues) but some feature like HDR, portrait don't work.
As a base for this rom, I use the most current global beta from here:

So it's basically a link to a ROM we already know...or is there any device specific features included?
If it's the aosp ROM by phhusson it's stock Android and works smooth but lacks some features IMHO. Nothing fancy but a great leap forward in treble development. Great guy developing good and stable roms.

Depends on what you're after since all of them are different in their own way. Some of them offer a lot of customization than others but mostly it's up to your taste.
My advice is ArrowOS, it's stable, fast, has customization (tho not a lot) and it's Google certified so it's legit for banking apps and NFC payments.

I know that the most famous are nitrogen, pixel, evolution, lineage, recoustraction
Can u tell me what are the characteristic of each rom?
The best strengths of each rom?
I doubt someone can make such a comparison, the is so many ROMs.
It depends what everyone is looking for.
Yepi69 prefers ArrowOs (which I haven't tested because I don't like paying for the complete ROM options) and I like ROMs that mimics Google Pixel.
There are caveats for each ROM.
IMHO you should compare what ROM mainteners say in their post presenting their ROM and the people reactions (reading topics is long but it worth the time reading them) and select the one that appeals you and test it for a few days. If you're satisfied keep it, if not change it.
Just remember that only Xiaomi.eu ROM is 100% compatible with original ROM and all functions of it because it's (to be simple) the original ROM with tweaks.
And also that most of ROMs may have problems with payment apps (but solutions can be provided for some) and to fully use the different cameras of X3 (there is some solutions with ANXcamera and Google camera ports but none, so far, is as complete as the original one).
Last thing to take into account is how frequent are the updates and which Android patch is included.
Some are often updated with corrections and Android patches while some don't.
I always prefer the ones with the latest security patches (and official ROM and therefore Xioami.eu are not updated with every monthly security Android patches).

My bad... I confused with another rom...
Well it all depends on original rom source. Most of the rom devs use same-ish device trees so what you get differently depends on the rom's source like resurrectionos features, arrowos features...
Some may look the same some may not like ancient, revengeos, dotos etc. You can compare them in youtube videos. That is how i would decide to use which i would like.

Question Which is the best performance roms for OP 9?

I wonder what is the best room for performance in OP9 even optimization?
There is not a huge difference it's all personal preference.
Stock rom
Debloated OOS and some magisk mod tweaks.
I've tested custom rom my choice is Syberia
Stock or AOSPA imo
OOS
*Syberia is the most customisable and so far seems very snappy.
*Elytra OS The most aesthetic UI and fast kernel
These two ROMs are my choice for #bestROM.
*Pixel extended is the perfect Google experience
*CRDroid is also another one worth mentioning and the Dev is very friendly.
*Stag OS was the first 13 rom and is very stable also
*lineage OS is the most basic Custom rom and easy to flash.

Exactly this. They're all pretty great.
For A12, any ROM with OOSCAM and a current security update is amazing.
For A13, ElytraOS is very impressive, and the maintainer is very active in what feedback is given. StagOS As well, but that maintainer is/was supporting A12 and 13 while ElytraOS came in on A13, so has just had more time to focus just on it. Both are great.
And now with Syberia (one of my favorite OP6 roms) on the scene, It seems you literally can't pick incorrectly, all are winners.
All my issues have always come from incorrect OOS update prior to flashing a ROM (see: PEBKAC), Android and/or its various changes itself effecting the Apps I use itself or an underlining bug that's from lineage (that all start with as a base, at least on every OP devices I've run with an android OS) that's out of the maintainers control.
For now, I'm back on Pixel Experience A12, but will return to A13 ROMs once it matures a little further and apps stabilize on it (preferably one with Google AI call screening enabled by default.)
I'd also take note of the few ROMs that offer vanilla builds that allow you to manage your own exposure to GApps, or none at all (ex: CRDroid)

OOS13 is so damn beautiful but hate the idea of trying to root, remove bloat/spyware, optimize it all while in Beta.
I need to try it at least once for a week or so.
nothing beats the stability of OOS.
i use some filming ang photography apps. i have tested these apps with most of the popular custom roms. the apps develop issues that do not happen in OOS.
