NOOOO, I want it now!!! (Been hangin around my kids too long...)
That said, Is there a stable 6.0.1 ATT G3 ROM out there? STABLE being the key word.
I really want to be running MM, I have heard great things about it's smoothness and DOZE feature to extend battery life.
If there is a stable ROM, I'll root and install.

Nothing STABLE yet. That said, I've been running CM13 for over a month and I love it. Builds are unofficial but the latest builds in the dev forum are really fast, stable and have GPS working (for the first time ever for me, even with KK and LL). I run it with the 777 kernel and it's perfect for me.

Thanks for the feedback. I saw also (in subsequent posts) that the RR MM 6.0 ROM is also stable. I have never run CM before, so can anyone enlighten me so I don't have to drop 8 hours testing out both ROMs.... my questions are:
1) Which has a better camera experience? CM or RR? Stable, no FC.
2) which is more stable with less problems (ie, GPS, BT, no SD card, no 4G data, etc...)
3) which has better battery life?
4) Do either support device encryption? That was one of the major improvements in MM that no one seems to be talking about.
Thanks alot for the replies, and thanks to the developers for creating these, you guys and gals are awesome!

Do I have to use an aftermarket camera app like I did on SlimROMs? I used Open Camera. While it worked, it was sssslllloooowwww and sometimes caused the camera to crash, at which point I would have to pull the battery for it to work again (really annoying when you are trying to get Kindergarten graduation pics of your son...). I uninstalled it and reinstalled it, and those problems went away though. Android is so weird...
For this reason, I will never ever to get inside a google autonomous car. I'm gonna be the last old timer left, and everyone will ridicule me. "In my day, WE drove! And we liked it! We loved it!"
No aftermarket app will change the fact that you will be missing the LG firmware.
Personally I love the way LG has the camera setup where I can just tap the screen it focuses then snaps it. No LG camera on 3rd party rom so I went back to stock. If your phone is as important to you as you claim given all the questions you asked it would be worth your while to wait for the official update as I will. Let the rest test and be dissatisfied with the problems and lack of features. Note that I haven't had a crash or freeze since I got away from cm12

Point taken, but I don't think I'll get the official OTA MM anyway because I am not on ATT, but on Cricket. Or would I just download from XDA and flash it myself?
Did you still root and debloat the stock ROM? Or just leave it completely stock?

After trying many a many roms here for both d851 and d850 (My son and mine), I would definitely stick with stock if you take pics. The d851 is actually in better shape (mm wise) as it has a supported CM13, but the camera is poor. As for cricket- my understanding is that some phones get att updates, and some don't. If an update doesn't happen after you know mm has been released, you can wait a week or two and it very well may be posted here to flash- or you can pick up a att go phone sim for a couple of bucks and flash, then drop the cricket sim back in.
And yes you can root & debloat, but I haven't seen a prepackaged 20g (that has the stagefright patch) debloated yet. I just use super uninstaller app from the play store, which requires root.
here I am just stock with root & recovery (if needed) haven't found a need to use either yet but I like having the option available.
I have all the stock crummy at&t apps disabled because actually "removing" them requires quite a bit of time that I haven't yet found.
If I install cm13 or RR do I lose the LG IR remote?
I don't think there is a custom IR remote apk for MM yet like there is for lollipop.

I stick to stock based ROMs because of the camera problems on AOSP ROMs. I don't use my camera often, but when I do I want it to work well. I will wait for 6 to be released.

What is a good stock ROM you would recommend?
I've Tried All The Major Custom ROM Players..
You know their names.
And for the most part.. they were "Glitch-Free" and fairly stable.
Lots of goodies to play with and adjust.. even one offering the "Pure" Experience.. for those that want it Bare-Boned.
And.. even though they were bloat-free, light in weight and smooth.. there were still complaints about this not working or that not working.. or, users asking if they could have Gestures working as smoothly as Stock.. both Camera lenses functioning etc.. etc.. :crying:
It's in EVERY thread.
I'd been mixing and matching so many Kernel's and ROM's trying to achieve... what?
That's when I decided to Re-Encrypt my software throw on 9.5.17.. and Re-Root the darn thing..
A Fresh Start..
Not only has everything been scrubbed clean.. but battery ( Greenified ) Smoothness ( Nova-Prime ) Customization ( Themes ) all really work better than I remembered.
Even with the bloat.. ( I could remove it.. ) everything transistions just as fast as it did with the customs.
I Can Always Go Back.. to C-ROM's and my Anti ( 3 ) is not an issue.. but,
I really don't see a need to.. Stock-Rooted ( IMO ) offers the best Stability / Customization Combo for the XRN5 / Pro.
For most people including me, it's just being close to raw aosp.
I admire the smoothness of miui edge gestures and some goodies that miui brings. But other than that, i just can't stand the ugly side of it, like why an oem will show ads when i download something with stock browser? I know i can use other browsers, but why would mi do that? Did i got the phone for free? So, they put ads to monetize?!
It's good that now i see threads for debloating miui easily but i don't see myself going back to miui anytime soon. Even now that mia2 Cam's been ported and working quite smoothly, i see no reason to go back.
Btw, it's just personal preference. And if stability is what's someone looking for, they should go stock. But it also can be achieved from aosp roms, no doubt. Highly depends on user and how/what they use it for. I have no major problems with the roms I've tried so far.
Aosip, havoc, dotos, now bootleggers. Aosip is the most perfect solution for me.
Cheers.

Great Post..
Can't disagree with your opinion..
I have no issues either way as far as browsing is concerned.. even without the use of Adaway Rooted or Non-Rooted variants.
MIUI got the Gestures right... that's for sure. The Customs can't touch MIUI Smoothness and Sensitivity levels.
And Batterylife for me is 13% ( tested ) better going factory fresh as well.
Thank Goodness there is a road for each of us to get to our destination! :highfive:
Cheers.
Been there, done that. I remember the good old days when stock ROMs sucked big time. Not so long ago, I pretty much threw MIUI into oblivion on my RN3 because performance was sub-par. Now, it's a completely different world in which I find myself at home when using Oreo-based MIUI 9 and even 10.
All I need these days is the latest stable Android release, Magisk (+ a couple Modules), Nova Launcher, my apps and I'm good to go.
Gone are the days when I tweaked and tweaked the hell out the HW and SW to get decent performance.
I totally agree with the OP. I tried few of the major custom roms and while they were mostly bug free and stable, oreo based stock miui 9 and 10 beta is simply awesome. Miui 10 beta is giving me the best battery life and the most smooth performance, even with tons of bloatware.
Yeah this is the setup I have used since I got this phone. Stock os is stable and fast. Haven't tried any custom Roms yet . If things go south in miui 10 only then will i switch to other roms
I am waiting to get my bootloader unlocked and want to root stock.
Will I be able to OTA upgrade without losing root? Or what's the process here.
Wish there was a tweaked, debloated, zip aligned stock rom..

I agree what Incogn said. MIUI doesn't need Greenify as it is pretty aggressive. But if you want it there is a Magisk module you can download from Magisk Manager itself. It makes Greenify perform way better like it works with Xposed.

Mi A2 Port works without any Problem on Resurrection Remix 2018.07.23
is general gsi roms good enough for our device or is it better to wait for specific rom that is well modified for our device??? In other words is there any general gsi rom that is good enough and has major hardware parts working (camera, wifi, hotspot, brightness, bluetooth... Etc) ???
Thanks
Has anyone tried Havoc OS ROM ?
Generally speaking they're good enough to use assuming you can get them installed on you phone. I was using Phh's unofficial Ressurection Remix Rom for a while, and the biggest issue I had was the fingerprint sensor acting as a mouse button when the screen was on. Otherwise everything was very smooth and worked like what I expected them too. Battery life might have been a bit worse than it was on MIUI. I've had similar results on all of Phh's ROMs, although I haven't really tried images from too many other developers.
Installing them can be a struggle. It seems like half of the time I try to flash one I need to wipe everything on the phone to get it to work, but other times I can flash them with no issues. That's not specific to GSI images though. I've probably wiped my phone (system and storage contents) half a dozen times because I accidentally soft bricked my phone trying to flash something. That's probably more user error more than anything else.
I have also never been able to get gapps to flash on a GSI ROM. I've always had to use ones with them built in.
I ended up going back to MIUI because the GCam mod wasn't working properly, and a large reason for buying the phone was for the camera. I'll probably go back to Treble images once the major ROMs start releasing Pie variants, assuming we don't get some native ROMs first.

I flashed a lot of them. Most have bugs as you can imagine e but that's not the rom's or devs fault.
I had installed
Official Resurrection ReMix
Phh treble AOSP
Pixel Experience version 8.1 and 9
Polaris Pixel experience
Google extended
All with similar bugs/features. The 8.1 versions work pretty well, the pie versions have all the same bugs. But they are daily driver material in my opinion if you can do without some functions. Some of them have enough no working camera, others have trouble with NFC and bluetooth.
Others have distorted sounds (which can be easily fixed).
Just browse the treble development thread and find out what fits best for you.
I'm using pixel experience official 8.1 and 9 unofficial (on two separate MiMix2S) and so far it works for me.
I think the best by now is the official 8.1 PE rom. Most of the things I'm using do work really well. Now I'm eagerly waiting for the Polaris Pixel Experience Pie rom...hope it will arrive soon.
I think we own a not very popular device so devs are rare but there are some of them doing a great job and working on those issues. Maybe some could donate some bucks like I did to keep them motivated and show some appreciation for their hard work.
I've had the best experience with the Benzo 9.0 ROM.
How is the camera on GSI roms? One of the reasons I updated from the mix 2 to the mix 2s was for the camera.
Is it comparable to MIUI?, or total ****?
I am using the AOSP 9.0 rom by @phhusson: https://github.com/phhusson/treble_experimentations/releases
Apart from the camera, I'm not aware of any known issues. Bluetooth, NFC, Sound and Calling issues have all been resolved (thank you very much @phhusson). I guess there are other issues I did not hit yet
The camera app I use is from here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/xi...ed-p-mix2s-t3838406/post77529938#post77529938
Its possible to take good pictures (without color issues) but some feature like HDR, portrait don't work.
As a base for this rom, I use the most current global beta from here:

If it's the aosp ROM by phhusson it's stock Android and works smooth but lacks some features IMHO. Nothing fancy but a great leap forward in treble development. Great guy developing good and stable roms.

Im seeing that they are updating it daily so i said ill wait 1 week and then try it.
I haven't gotten my phone yet ordered it Saturday shipped today so 3 weeks I wait. As I wait I was wondering if the roms that are available on the 2 would work for the 2S and vice versa? (I have the 2s coming) I heard mostly same hardware just different cameras and wireless charging not sure much more has changed. Thanks for your input can't wait to root this phone and use it daily
No they wont work. However most of the project treble Roms work for our phone
Nope - use the available MiMix2s ROMS

You won't! Trust me!
I'm dreaming of a pixel experience pie rom. This would fit my needs the best. I don't really need all the customisation some of the roms offer although I must admit they are great and the ideas behind them are really cool.
The treble roms are pretty stable by now and daily driver ready IMHO but the MiMix2S isn't very popular as it seems so not too many devs out there building for this device. Maybe this will change in the future, until then I'll stick with the benzo and pixel experience roms.
I agree
Miui should die
I don't agree with you both I owned a 1+1 for more than 3 years and flashed a new rom every month or even more often. When I got the Mi Mix 2s I had to use it with miui for 2 weeks because of bootloader unlocking time(this is the most stupid thing I ever encountered). I'm on miui since then because I LOVE the gesture control and mostly it just works. As soon as we got a rom with gcam that supports slowo videos I will flash an aosp based rom too to test it but to say MIUI should die or he will hate it is too much. It's working fine and is full of features.

I think it depends on your individual needs and what you expect from a rom.
I too think that miui should die. Xiaomi is producing great devices regarding the hardware. But if you force your customers into using your own ROM (even if it is only the bootloader unlocking time) then this should work perfectly fine and fluid. Read the comments section in the miui forums or here on XDA. It's full of bugs. Every time they release a new version something else is broken.
If I'd like the look of iOS so much I'd get an iPhone. It's neither looking original nor behaving like a finished ROM. For me it felt like a developer version. So many bugs and not even the simplest features worked correctly.
I couldn't care less for navigation gestures or slowmo video (although this is really a nice feature), but I'd like to have working Bluetooth hands free, stable network connections and the possibility to connect to an airports WiFi. None of this worked with miui. At least not for me. And that's the reason I switched ASAP to a GSI. Those were the longest 15 days of my life.
Of course the 8.1 versions worked much better as Pie was just released and many things had to be sorted out. But some of the Devs here did a much better job in developing stable and well functioning roms than the miui team.
So in my opinion MIUI should just die or at least they should reduce the stolen/copied functions and concentrate on the main features and make them perfect.
To me it seems they concentrate more on the looks of their OS than the functionality.
But I don't want to start a debate of principles. If you like it use it, I will never return to this abnormality of an OS.
Whats this about waiting 15 days or 10 days for unlocking bootloader? Going to do some googling about it but figured I'd ask that sounds annoying if its the case.

Yes it is and you can't do anything about it. It's Xiaomi's way to prevent their phones from being delivered with malware infested roms as it's too much of a hassle for the shops to unlock and install it.
I hated it too. You're lucky that it's only 15 days and not 720hrs like some have.
I don't understand it because if you get the phone with a not certified or custom ROM from a shop that looks suspicious you could simply install the original Xiaomi firmware without the headache.

In the meantime you can set up your Xiaomi account as you will need it for unlocking you phone anyway and request the unlock permission.
As soon as you get the device, bind the account to your phone so the time starts counting down immediately. Then it's only 15 grueling days using MIUI but then there's a whole lot of roms which make the device what it should have been from the start. A stable, fast, reliable and good device!
Is there any way to flash PixelExperience in my new Redmi Note 7 Pro without VOIDING the Warranty??
Pls help me out if there is a way.

Your warranty is not void if you unlock the bootloader officially . You can root it without any problem. But be careful while using the phone , if its your mistake that you damaged your device, Mi may not be able to repair under warranty.
I have used the service of Mi under warranty more than 3 times and my phone is unlocked and rooted. But they were different scenarios and i don't see these cases of my negligence. All were hardware issues which can be seen normal in many locked devices too.

Well today, now i am on xiaomi.eu, 2 hrs before i was on cesium os. But i get back to xiaomi.eu cause i like it as i like miui and this rom removes bloatware from miui and add some tweaks too.
So overall its good more customized miui.
If you ask which rom i have used till now in violet
RR, PE, CESIUM, MIUIPRO, HAVOC, ION, SUPERIOR, CRDROID, DOT, OOS(PORT)
Overall most of the roms i have tested both android 9 and 10 (most have both versions and tested both). But came back to miui cause my requirement was not met as i needed inbuilt call recording and app lock, fingerprint, facelock.
I hate external ones cause they don't work upto the mark and can't compete with miui in this case(from my point of view)
There are new ROMs being built daily but no one cares to add something new, just one or two tweaks and will change theme and add or remove some functions and will be released with a new name[i am not hurting anyone] but seriously its happening i can take the names of roms which are almost same but names are different cause developers are different. You will also see many roms will have same bugs too. [eg. Network Switching]
[I fully respect the developer's work and their hard time committed to our phone's development.]
Yeah, miui.eu has been my daily driver since trying out many roms from my RN5 Pro days. In terms of stability and functionality, miui.eu rules. Cant understand the popularity of Pixel Exp, its a crap rom in comparison imo. I guess people just want something different and thats why they go for it.

Agreed ,but a huge reason why these ROM's win over MIUI is basically Performance and a clean UI. The Pixel exclusive features help a lot as well. Also the lack of custom kernels for MIUI is a factor. Well using Magisk+EdXposed you could get the same level of app lock and call recording...

Yes, but i am using miui.eu, its working smooth and playing pubg mobile, never get any lag , moreover the magisk+xposed can compete miui call recording but applock of miui is far better as its fully integrated with system whereas other applocks are not much secured compared to miui one.
Pixel experience is a good rom but you can see the no. Of roms being released with mostly same features but different themes but instead of this 2 or more these developers get together and make one rom with combined features. As it may also be less buggy.

Yeepp. But I disagree with the applock statement. We don't know what sort of protection MIUI uses whereas apps like MaxLock is open source, consumed negligible battery and gives you 512 bit encryption along with various advanced options if needed.

Okay, i haven't used it but most of the applocks ,will work when the app has been opened and it will be shown for some milliseconds and then it will draw itself over the app.

Oh that's why this one uses EdXposed/Root. It detects the launch of specific apps, rather than running all the time and there's no way to bypass it.
But there are some troubles running it in Android 10.
That's why i use miui? because if one problem is solved there is another problem which is ready to raise
Safety net
As with xposed safetynet will not pass...

Moreover i am confused why mi has not updated violet rom yet. Its almost 2 months now , no weekly china update.
Most of the phones has got 20.x.x developers update but violet is left behind till now.
May be they are ready to give Android 10 surprise?

While Pixel roms gives clean UI, Miui.eu gives all the perks which other custom roms miss. I'm in same state as of OP as I actually need Call recorder, and App lock so miui.eu is the best choice. Its smooth, stable, bug-free. I can clearly compare 2 phones, one with stock miui and other with eu rom, EU win hands down any day. I haven't yet found a custom rom with all miui perks and pixel ui. I will happy switch if anyone makes that.
