Looking đź” - General Questions and Answers

I am looking for some capable gcam mod for Astrophoto. I own an xiaomi 12 for a week, and using currently the "lmc8.4 R17" with config. unfortunately, i didnt have enough time to try every single option cuz of clouds. Yesterday night i had chance, i gave it a try. Results are very bad compare to stock Xiaomi apk. In the description of the picture i got information only maximum 1 second exposure time, but iso was over high (10k to 20k). When i look at the gcam apk settings, every setting going over my head, i mean that i dont understand whats the settings do.
i would like to get some advice how to set Up properly the settings and not to mess IT Up, or if you know something good for Xiaomi 12 which would work to get out maximum from my camera lens i would be forever your debtor.
i was using gcam apk on my Mi9 (which was my last phone before bought 12) and the apk was working perfect, the timer was 5 min.
I hope we could find together best solution for my config.
thank you so much in forward..

Thanks for the help! I tried this build but it's still very unresponsive. Not sure how exactly it works for you and yet somehow it doesn't work for me. Given that we both have the same Chinese version it doesn't make any sense. However I tried the latest build available from this developer (MGC_6_1_021_xcam6_beta2.apk) and it works very very well! I would even say it's close to perfect. It's just the slow motion which doesn't work at the moment.
It seems the GCam builds maintained by xtrme are the only ones which work with the Chinese version of the RN7Pro. Although these builds are aimed at MI 9, they work for the RN7Pro as well since both of them have the exact same camera sensor.
P.S. Any particular camera settings you are using with GCam? Did you import the XML config file?

I don't use any config files.
Only enabled Pixel 2 awb, remove iso limit in dark , no enable auto exposure, and enabled dynamic black lvl.
Worked perfect on chinese rom, working perfect now on global rom.
I tested Arnova8G2 Advanced 1.4 and xtrme's xcam6_beta3. Photo, 4K video and nightshot. Both works fine.
Nope. On the Note 7 Pro, none of the versions (including this one) works perfectly. The portait mode still freezes on my Note 7 Pro from China. The Night Mode does work with this one though.
I've the Chinese note 7 pro and this one works well except for slow motion

Sent from my Redmi Note 7 Pro using Tapatalk
I've been doing a lot of testing with several GCam builds on the Redmi Note 7 Pro and I finally found one which gives amazing results. Although it isn't specifically tailored for the Sony IMX586 sensor as we find with other GCam builds developed for the Mi 9 (such as the one modded by xtrme), for some reason it produces much better photos with better color accuracy, details, sharpness, exposure and dynamic range. This GCam build is modded by bulkin043 and it is tailored for a variety of different devices such as the Redmi Note 5 / Pro (whyred), Redmi Note 7 (lavender), Mi A1 (tissot), Mi A2 (jasmine), Mi 6x (wayne) and Mi 8 Lite (platina). During my extensive tests I've found this build to be exceptionally stable with smooth transitions when switching through menus and a very responsive UI.
This build is packed with a lot of great settings such as "Custom Eszdman v2.2" quality level for NightSight, Camera API2 "Metering mode", "ISO priority", and "Lens distortion correction", "Lens blur resolution" and many other unique features. Best of all it comes with a dedicated interface theme (Auto/Light/Dark) which automatically adapts to daylight or night-time conditions. Photobooth and Slow Motion aren't working unfortunately, but that's the case with many GCam builds and so it remains a work in progress.
The only bothersome issue with this build is due to the fact that it permanently crashes video mode when selecting 60fps. Please avoid this framerate for now, or else you will have to reinstall GCam to gain access to video mode again.
This Google Camera is based on the 6.2.030 version and you can download it from > HERE
I will share below the optimal settings for the Redmi Note 7 Pro (after having it thoroughly tested I've found these particular settings to give the best possible results):
[Libs]
Default from Google
[Base settings]
Back camera > Pixel 3a XL/with Pixel 3a config (perfect balance between noise control, details and sharpness with accurate exposure) or Pixel XL/with Pixel 3 config (increased noise, details and sharpness with slightly higher exposure)
Front camera > Pixel 2 XL (good colors, details and sharpness with more noise control) or Nexus 5X (greater details and sharpness with slightly more noise)
Config > Pixel 3a/with Pixel 3a XL and Pixel 3 XL AWB or Pixel 3/with Pixel XL and Pixel 2 XL AWB
[Saturation]
Front Camera > Highlight Saturation (1.9) / Shadow Saturation (2.3)
Back Camera > Highlight Saturation (1.0) / Shadow Saturation (1.6)
[Noise reduction]
Back camera > Activate
Front camera > Activate
DO NOT enable HDR+ Denoise!
[Enable these toggles]
> HDR+ Control
> Save to /DCIM/Camera
> Quick auto exposure settings
> Remove the ISO limit
> Portrait/Disable zoom
> Recompute AWB > On (mandatory!)
All other settings remain on default
NOTICE: Keep in mind that these settings have been tested only on the Redmi Note 7 Pro (China variant). For other compatible devices supported by this build you will have to experiment with the settings yourselves.
I've tested the latest xtrme GCam build and I'm very pleased to see Pixel AWB has finally been fixed. We are getting very close to a true Google Camera performance on the Mi 9 and Redmi Note 7 Pro. File size is also correct and image quality is closer to MIUI stock camera (exposure/highlight conservation is still better on stock camera though).
You can download the latest GCam build developed by xtrme from HERE
After trying various settings I've managed to find the best configuration which provides amazing image quality, with great detail, sharpness, color reproduction, noise control, exposure and dynamic range. There's one single XML config file suitable for both daytime and nighttime conditions which you can download from HERE
Here's a tutorial on how to import/export XML config files for GCam
For NightSight you need steady hands as image processing is slower, but provides maximum quality. There's also a small annoyance with my config as NightSight suggestion doesn't work with BSG Config PixelPlusNS Hdr+, but this issue will eventually be fixed.
Thanks so much @vlachorumsapiens

For some reasons, the latest GCam from xtreme is not working good for me. Even after using your config files, colors are still not realistic. I am using Arnova's latest and it is working great right out of the box.

Not sure why it's not working well for you. Which version are you using from Arnova? Is it the latest 2.0 version?
[Updated XML download link for xtrme GCam]
> disabled noise reduction settings completely (BSG Config PixelPlusNS Hdr+ module does enough noise reduction on its own)
> decreased HDR+ frames to 7
> set correction NightSight to "Off"
The result is faster image processing, reduced time for capturing photos with NightSight, increased details and sharpness with less chances to end up with blurry photos.

I've tried Arnova's version and it's actually very similar with xtrme's version. Color reproduction is pretty much the same when using certain libraries like "Default from Google" or "CSeUs", in combination with BSG Config PixelPlusNS Hdr+ and Pixel 3 XL for base settings. However what Arnova's GCam lacks is a special library called Xlib v2.2s which provides far better details than any other library, with much better exposure in the shadows. I've tried many different builds with many different settings, but none can come close to this one. NightSight is absolutely amazing, but image processing is slower than on Arnova's GCam because it needs more time to capture more light and apply the adequate post-processing. But the trade-off is worth it. Slower processing and maximum quality is better than faster processing and lower quality. It should come as no surprise since xtrme's version is the only build specifically tailored for the Mi 9 which has the exact same main camera sensor as the Redmi Note 7 Pro. I just don't understand why it's not working well for you. But otherwise Arnova's version can take decent photos nonetheless. I think it's a bit better than the versions modded by bulkin043 and BSG when it comes to color reproduction and NightSight.

Yes. That's the downside of this version of GCam. Image processing is slower than on other versions, but image quality is the best.

960fps slow motion mod

Credits goes to the guys of this topic:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/on...ide-enable-960fps-slow-motion-7t-pro-t4101389
The mod adds to the stock camera the option to record 10 seconds of the video in 720p 960 fps.
Just wanted to let you know that in the normal one plus 7 this mod works as well. I am using the latest stable Android 10 firmware with arter97 kernel. I did not tested the macro mode.
The only one difference is that we need to add the values described in the topic above to camera 0 and 3, because the camera 5 does not exist for us. Please check carefully the screenshots.
Don't forget to install the newest apk of the camera from the link below, as well as after applying the mod don't forget to restart your phone.

Not working with my OP7, with camera ver: OnePlus Camera 3.10.17 and OOS 10.3.2.GM57AA.
After editing the .xml files when I open the camera app it shows nothing just a black screen.
How about enabling Macro mode, Did it work for any?

Hi! I am the author of the original thread. First. Camera 5 id exist on our phone. Is for multi camera. As camera 0 is for dual. And camera 3 is for wide angle. Totally not used here. The stringset needs to be added on 0 and 5 for stability reasons. I would appreciate the OP to not create duplicated of the threads please. (Thanks for the credits though, but this mod is not only mine, other people deserve credits too) and not spread wrong info please.
Hi @elmarian756
With all respect, the purpose of writing it here was to inform the users of standard one plus 7 about the possibility of using this mod. I decided to write about it here because it was important to mention that the settings in the preferences manager apk has to be different. If you think that this topic doesn't make sense, please edit your topic and include the information that the standard op7 can also use this mod with the proper settings. In that way I don't mind in deleting this topic. The idea was just to share the info, not to change/share/steal the credits from the original author.
I believe that for the op7 pro there is CameraInfo_5.xml file, but for op7 there is not. Please take a look at the screenshot below how does it look in my op7. The CameraInfo_3.xml is the "highest" available number. There is also CameraInfo_2, and 1 and 0, but there is no file which has number 5 in the title. I guess that the difference is caused by the reason that the op7pro has one camera lens more (the wide angle what you wrote about) compared to op7 which does not have that lens.
For the users of standard op7 (me including) editing the camerainfo_3 and 0 brings the possibility of using 960fps slow motion mod. If you wish, I can record and share the video showing the settings as well as the sample of the 960fps slow motion.
By the way, thanks for sharing the info about this mod!
All the best,

I am sorry i dont want to be rude but you are just misinformed. The information you are providing is just incorrect.
You can check this yourself typing *#*#1597#*#* and check the cameras IDs.
IDs are: 0 for dual
5 multilens
4 telephoto related (not sure which mode uses this)
3 wide angle
2 telephoto
1 front camera.
Oneplus can set many IDs as they need according to use.
There is no higher or lower. Dial the code and switch between modes and you will find out yourself.
Changing only 0 id works. But crashes camera sometimes. It needs 5 too. 3, is wide angle. Totally unrelated.
That is why you enable macro support on cameraid 3. Because macro uses that wide angle lens.
Again, i dont mean to be rude. But you are calling my info wrong. Just posting wrong information. It will confuse users. And you are duplicating a thread. It will only create confusion. Please do check your info. Is wrong. I dont want to report the thread as duplicate. But kinda is. Users dont need this clarification or my info doesn't need correction. With all respect. Yours is wrong.
Cheers and all the best! :highfive:

Gcam review and xml

Hi all
I searched for examples of such topics on this site, which are the most up-to-date versions gcam Check and present. But I did not find anything. So I decided to create this topic

Also in this topic, we try to provide the best settings and versions for different phones
First of all I want to review new gcam....
The name is aspen
It made by ai-ro and he use 8.1 gcam base
I test and share it with all freind and all of them also like it

Google Camera Port
Stable versions and configs for the OnePlus 9.
A discussion thread for GCam mods compatible with the OnePlus 9. Let's use it to find stable versions for this device.
Features:
- HDR+ Enhanced, Night Mode, Astrophotography, Portrait Mode, Timelapse, Motion Photos, Lens Blur, Panorama, Photo Sphere, Photobooth, Motion tracking.
- Video, Timelapse, Slow motion.
- Support for extra cameras (the ones allowed by OnePlus...).
- AR Playground/Stickers (follow this guide).
Bugs:
- Video quality is better on the stock camera, specially video stabilisation and slow motion.
- Due to OnePlus' decision to restrict access of 3rd party apps to the extra cameras on Android 11, you'll need to use specific "package names" (eg: use the links on this thread). Some cameras may still not be available even with the right apk due to there restrictions.
How to:
1. Download APK (pick the first one if in doubt).
2. Download config file (often not required, but may help with quality).
3. Install APK file.
4. Load config file.
A short video tutorial is available for new users.
Downloads:
- = Recommended version.
- To avoid issues when viewing media from inside GCam, install the Google Photos app (can be used without uploads/Google Account).
GCam 8 (Android 10+):
- Arnova8G2: GCam_6.210329.0153build-8.1.101 (2021-03-29, configs)
- Wichaya: GCam_8.1.101_Wichaya_V1.4 (2021-08-03, configs)
I'll try to keep this post updated with info from the telegram group, but please, leave feedback.
Thanks:
To devs like Arnova8G2, BSG, Urnyx05, defcomg, and many other modders and testers that have contributed over the years.
[Old APKs archive]
- Wichaya: GCam_8.1.101_Wichaya_V1.3 (2021-07-13, configs)
- Wichaya: GCam_8.1.101_Wichaya_V1.2 (2021-07-01, configs)
Very nice !!
Just tried Arnova8G2 on Lineageos 18.1, but it would never open and eventually crashes. Instead I am using the Wichaya build with default config, which works quite well.
Thanks for This !
Bad news everyone... Access to the auxiliary cameras (macro, telephoto, wide, etc) is blocked on OxygenOS 12 (Android 12).
Do not upgrade to OOS 12 if you need GCam (or any other camera app) to work on these cameras.
Everything should work fine on custom ROMs though.

I thought the same. It's all there built into the zoom under photo. All 3. Just not in individual categories.. I'm on A12 oxygen os for the global op9. So good news is the update is pretty awesome except live caption being broken.
I can't find photo booth option
Which is the best gcam app and config for our phone, I have tried several and best one seems to be Wichaya's 8.1
hi,
someone have gcam on oxygen os 12 c.44 update??
I tried MGC_8.1.101_A9_GVp_snap.apk and Wichaya without any config and it works but seems really buggy and often slow.
Bringing this thread back to life, as I found a very good working Gcam port for the OP9.
it was posted in the Oneplus 9 Pro forum by Arcide. On page 12, he posted an updated APK. Go here and look for the LMC8.4_R9_snapcam.apk
Link here: LMC "Snapcam" v8.4 R9
I spent quite a bit of time today using it, and comparing it directly to the OOS cam that is currently on my OP9 (unlocked Tmobile version, running OOS/Android 12). I made lots of little changes until I was able to get results that I feel are better than the OOS camera.
Try my .xml file below, and let me know how it works for you.

Seems like this particular version of GCam doesn't support 4k on android 12. and only 4k/30fps works on android 11.
I'll keep checking for an update, but so far, there is no fix for this yet.

it was posted in the Oneplus 9 Pro forum by Arcide.

Hey Mike, I have Lineage 19.1 installed on my Oneplus 9 (LE2110) using LMC8.4 Release 9. With your config it results in the camera crashing whenever I click on "Wide" above "1.0x"
I then have to clear storage/cache in LMC8.4 to be able to open it again.
I faced the same issue with Arcide' config when ever I would click on " 3.3x" (I know I can't use 3.3x because I am using a OP9, just explaining that I have the same resultant camera crash)
If you could help me or perhaps give me any troubleshooting tips, I would be very appreciative. ❤
** I have attached a screenshot showing which button I am pressing to cause the crash, my android build and also version of the LMC8.4 I installed.
hmm, not really sure why it's not working on your phone. One thing you can try, is to re-define the wide camera. I noticed that on stock OOS, I had to set the 2nd camera to the telephoto setting in the app, even though it's the wide angle. it's like the address for telephoto and wide cams are switched in the settings.
Try this - when you first open the camera, tap the gear icon to show the settings.
Then tap on "more settings"
scroll down to "Additional Cameras" and tap that option.
- unselect "Tele Camera"
- select "Wide Camera"
See if that works.

Yeah tried that. Facing the same issue. I also run into scenarios where if I open the camera within another app I end up with a 90° rotated view.
Oh well, time to try a clean flash from scratch. Will try NikGapps this time. I am just seeing if the version of google apps I use has any affect on the outcome. Have already tried with OpenGapps and MindTheGapps.
Sorry one quick question, do you think perhaps removing the default camera app could have done this? I am trying to go through a methodical elimination of possible causes.

While I don't think that would be the cause, It might have other negative effects - like I noticed that some apps will look for the stock camera instead of the Gcam. At least on the OOS, some actions that call on the camera will end up opening the stock cam instead of gcam. so I just left it on my phone.

yeah, you are correct. I ended up making some adjustments after taking some more photos outside. go to settings, then tap "more settings"
Then Processing functions -- Color correction
under color correction, the 2nd group of settings says "Auto-CT Color Correction". Under that choose main camera, and under the advanced settings, tap CCT WB Offset, and change it to "1.0".
you can do the same thing for the tele camera. that should bring the temperature back from being too yellow. you can make these values negative if you want the photos to be cooler (more blue).
Do you have a OnePlus 9 config for 8.4 r12 fix 1?

Question GCam for Snapdragon S22 Ultra

A continuation of my previous thread for the S21 Ultra. I will keep this thread updated for new builds and configs for as long as I have the Snapdragon S22 Ultra. I am no expert with lib patchers so the configs I upload will be a modification of others that is adapted for this phone. Also, since I do not have the Exynos version, I cannot say if any of the configs will work with it.
Why GCam?
Obviously, GCam isn't for everyone. If you are already happy with stock or Expert RAW, that's awesome. If you're like me and do not like the over sharpened look of stock or the aggressive noise reduction of Expert RAW, GCam is a wonderful option that is very customizable. Example 1, example 2, example 3.
All credits of course goes to the GCam devs and modders out there. Each GCam build will have an about page that lists credits. If you like these builds and want to support your favorite dev/modder, please help them out by donating to them. Links are available on the Celso website!
You can install multiple versions of GCam IF they do not use the same package name (ex: com.samsung.android.scan3d). If two different builds has the same package name, you must uninstall the previous.
There is no "best GCam". Try the builds available to see what you like. Customize them to your own preference.
GCam 8.7 Build (BETA)Gcam-8.7.250.build-8.2Beta2
Arnova alpha build. Still can't take pictures, but supports 4K60 and 8K30 lens switching with the 1x, 3x, and 10x lenses. No configs, just go into developer options and change max zoom options to 10.
BSG MGC_8.7.250_A11_V14 and XML for it and LIB for it
Newest BSG release. Has many more options now including custom noise models and a limited lib patcher option. This config is optimized for ZSL (zero shutter lag) regular HDR+. Not the best in low light or dynamic range, but perfect for every day regular point and shoot and capturing action. You can actually record 4K60 and switch lenses! But it's limited to just the main camera and 3x camera since the zoom can't go beyond 8x. If you switch to Active mode, you can switch between the main, 3x, and 10x camera but is limited to 1080p. GCam processes videos differently from stock, and I prefer the look as well as being able to control the bitrate.
Steps to setup:
- Download and install the APK and give it the requested permissions
- Download the lib file and extract the zip
- Go to Settings > Libraries > Load custom lib (required step or GCam will crash)
- Download the XML config and move it to Internal Storage > Download > MGC_Config > 8.7.250 folder and load config
GCam 8.4 BuildsAGC 8.4 GCam v9.7 APK and Config for it
Created by KaKa, this version is color accurate, supports night mode and astrophotogrpahy mode. Contains three profiles. Standard is good for every day pictures with HDR Enhanced. ZSL is the same but of course with ZSL mode instead. Dynamic range is for better highlight control to give a more HDR look. Dynamic range profile is worst for motion so only use for static scenes like flowers and sunsets.
Steps to setup:
- Download and install AGC v9.7
- Download config and noise model
- Move config to Internal Storage > Download > AGC.8.4 > configs (create folder if it doesn't already exist)
- Start app and give it permissions
- Swipe down > Load configs and choose the config
- Swipe down > More Settings > Lens Settings > Choose any lens > Noise Model > Import Noise Model > Select the custom.c file
LMC 8.4 GCam r15 APK and XML for it (based on Arcide's v7 config)
Created by Hasli, this version is color accurate, supports night mode and astrophotogrpahy mode. Also has a ton of options you can enable such as manual focus, manual shutter/ISO, etc.
Steps to setup:
- Download and install the APK and give it the requested permissions (it will crash after)
- Download the config and copy it to Internal Storage > LMC8.4
- Open the GCam and quickly switch to video before it crashes
- Import XML by double tapping in the space between the shutter and viewfinder
Pro mode uses merge method 3 and has more noise reduction, turning it off switches to merge method 1 and is a bit sharper. LDR stands for low dynamic range, I think it adds contrast to scenes with less range.
SGCAM_8.4.400.42.XXX_STABLE_V43 and XML for it (based on Arcide's v3.3 config)
Created by Shamin, this is probably the GCam with the most options. Works very well with HDR+E. Similar to the LMC setup but Arcide has more recently updated his config using SGCam rather than LMC.
Steps to setup:
- Download and install the APK and give it the requested permissions
- Download the XML and put it in the Internal Storage > SGCAM > XML folder (make the folder if you don't already have it)
- Run the GCam and give it permissions
- Double tap on space between shutter and gallery to load XML
GCam 8.1 BuildBSG Public Build MGC_8.1.101_A9_GV1z and XML for it (config by Jajo based on a config by Fenix)
Created by BSG. Excellent and very stable GCam. Pretty much every option works.
Steps to setup:
- Download and install the APK and give it the requested permissions
- Download the XML and put it in the Internal Storage > Downloads > MGC_8.1.101_Configs folder (make the folder if you don't already have it)
- Run the GCam and give it permissions
- Double tap on space between shutter and gallery to load XML

Thanks for this @beserker15 - I've tried a few .xml files and none seem to have 0.6x or 2.9x lens support, is there any way to get these set up to correspond to the 0.6x and 3x physical lenses on the S22 Ultra do you know?

You should clarify which GCam you are referring to since I have three listed. Also, please carefully follow the steps since each one has a different way of loading things.
AGC build has it incorrectly labeled since it is auto generated. Ultra wide on it is called 1.0x and the short tele is like 4.7x. Also with AGC, you switch lenses using the button in the bottom left corner.
Apologies, I'm using the BSG Public Build from the last link in your original post, I'm using a S9080 which is a Snapdragon device. I've tried the 2 .xml's linked as well as another from another thread on these forums and have seen the same results. I'll have another read and see what I can find

How to adjust saturation in AGC V7 when 3rd party lib is applied?
Thx
@beserker15 How is the S22 ultra compares to the S21 ultra so far? Noise, detail, color, zoom? Is it worth to upgrade?

I upgraded because in the US, the trade in offers are too good lol. But the difference is minimal. The biggest difference would probably be with the 10x lens which is sharper and has more contrast naturally. The other lenses are pretty much almost the same.

Sadly I in the EU (where I live) it is the exynos version, for both s21u and s22u.

Would like to know this also.
AGC v7 crashes on start, no way around it.
Shamin 8.4 starts, but only seems to function correctly with the 10x tele, the other three lenses create a very strange RGB interference pattern (fields of red/green/blue covering the image, not in the viewfinder but once taken). Perhaps that can be fixed with some specific config, no idea.
BSG haven't tried yet.

Unfortunately that's not possible. The OEM has to enable the option via the Camera 2 API, which Samsung didn't. Some other phones can achieve it via root access but there's no way to do it for Samsung right now.

I only posted three of them and gave a brief description. Try them all and keep what you like.
