Question Thinking of buying a ROG PHONE 7 ULTIMATE. Need assistance choosing! - Asus ROG Phone 7 / 7 Ultimate

Dear ROG community,
I'm pleased to be considering the ROG 7 ULTIMATE because I'm a mobile gamer, and this would be an excellent achievement!
Now, after saving for some time, it's finally time to splurge on this bad boy. My only issue is, I don't know which version to get because the price difference is significant. I can go with the CN version but with global rom pre-installed or pay $500 or so more for the global version. Thoughts?
Would you guys think it's worth dishing out an additional $500 for a global version when the CN version has global rom pre-installed? I'm also curious about the network bands, so if anyone here has the CN version of either ROG 7 or 7 Ultimate, I'd love to hear from ya!
Thanks in advance for any help you may be able to offer me!

Genuine WW version all the way if you ask me. Just look through the ROG forums here and see some of the pain and waste of just time people with converted devices go through...
Converted devices have also been unlocked and re-locked and may cause trouble with the ASUS unlock tool if you ever need to lock/re-relock later, not to mention that a converted device has been tampered with by someone before you and in theory compromised from a security perspective. Finally there is the network bands, etc, etc...
Try to find one cheaper though, $500 bucks is indeed a lot of money!

This couldn't be said any better. I'll look into it more and see if I'm able to locate a cheaper one. I appreciate your time, fellow XDA patriot!

I'm in the same situation as you. I'm thinking about importing a Chinese version with Global ROM from AliExpress, as it's way cheaper.
According to GSM Arena, the bands available for each model are:
4G
1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 12, 17, 18, 19, 20, 25, 26, 28, 32, 34, 38, 39, 40, 41, 42, 43, 48, 66 - International
1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 12, 17, 18, 19, 20, 25, 26, 29, 30, 32, 34, 39, 40, 41, 42, 43, 48, 66, 71 - USA
1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 18, 19, 26, 28, 34, 38, 39, 40, 41, 42, 48 - China
5G
1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 8, 12, 18, 20, 25, 26, 28, 38, 40, 41, 48, 66, 77, 78, 79 SA/NSA/Sub6 - International
1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 8, 12, 18, 20, 25, 26, 29, 30, 38, 40, 41, 48, 66, 71, 77, 78, 79 SA/NSA/Sub6 - USA
1, 3, 5, 8, 28, 41, 77, 78, 79 SA/NSA/Sub6 - China
You can also use this site to check which bands work in your country: https://www.kimovil.com/en/frequency-checker/US/asus-rog-phone-7-ultimate
In my case, I wouldn't have problems with the bands, since the Chinese version has all the 4G bands I need. 5G isn't available yet where I live and looks like it will take a long time to arrive.
On AliExpress there's a seller named ROG Official Store, does anyone know if this is really their real store?

I have purchased my rog 7 normal edition from Ali express with the global rom on it. I have checked my build number and it says "WW_33.0820.0810.121"
So I'm hoping that mine is the worldwide version.
It's an excellent phone!
2 months til I break it, going off my average!

Anyone running g955f on att?

If so how's your mobile data speeds?, Thinking of pulling the trigger but read somewhere it's missing some LTE bands that support carrier aggregation,
I would like to know answer to this as well. In my area (Philadelphia), I haven't seen band 30 (the missing band) anywhere yet.
If it's like the international version of the s7e then it will work just fine for the most part. You will be missing a few minor features like wifi calling and number sync if you happen to have an lte gear S2 or S3 which is why I went with the carrier version. I can't have my phone on me doing my job but have a toddler and my wife is expecting a call for a transplant any time now so I needed number sync to work so it would come through on my watch.
i'm using the G955FD (dual-sim) version and it's working fine on AT&T... the LTE Discovery App shows i'm using bands 2, 4 and 17. as @ProStreetCamaro said, you'll miss some of ATT's features. in my case, it's not an issue. i'm using ATT & T-Mobile in my device. @ProStreetCamaro - i hope things go well for your spouse. ).

purchased mine from seller in Dubai; received brand-new, unopened phone. this is the second phone i've purchased from them and the were very helpful to ensure i received a full refund from Samsung during the Note 7 fiasco. Samsung/Samsung Dubai refunded me the full purchase price +shipping. and i do live in the US/Texas .
Will the T-Mobile version work on AT&T's network? I assume that T-Mobile still doesn't require Samsung to lock the bootloader, but AT&T does. A brief look online shows each provider's version of the S8+ uses the following LTE bands:
T-Mobile: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 12, 13, 18, 19, 20, 25, 26, 38, 39, 41, 66
AT&T: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 12, 20, 28, 29, 30, 38, 39, 40, 41
Would I miss much by not having bands 29, 29, 30 and 40 on my phone?

Both T-Mobile and AT&T versions have locked bootloaders. International version has unlocked bootloader. T-Mobile will likely work on AT&T, but VoLTE and Wifi calling will likely not work.
I'm considering getting the international euro version as well to run on AT&T. It's a real shame we have to compromise. The euro version has the better Exynos chip and the unlocked bootloader. The AT&T version has the snapdragon and of course a locked bootloader. I've heard the USA unlocked version G955U will also be bootloader locked (and snapdragon). Does anyone have a list of the features that will NOT work on AT&T by using the international euro version? I've heard WiFi calling is one of them.

How to tell which bands/modes/frequencies are enabled for sm-g955u1

Hi all! I've been a lurker for a while now and have been appreciative of all of the progress that has been made with flashing firmware on the Galaxy S8+ in order to take say a Verizon phone and make it completely usable on T-Mobile without the bloatware from Verizon (or from any carrier).
I'm posting today because I was hoping to learn a little more on how to determine which LTE Bands have been unlocked after flashing firmware on a Galaxy S8+ that was originally a Verizon device that is now being used on T-Mobile.
This link was helpful: https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8+/how-to/how-to-verify-t-mobile-services-wifi-t3612996
Was wondering if there was any other way to make sure that the T-Mobile bands that needed to be unlocked were unlocked as required with the flashing of firmware. The firmware was acquired from sammobile.com with these details:
Download the firmware for the SM-G955U1 with product code USC from USA. This firmware has version number PDA G955U1UEU1AQDC and CSC G955U1OYM1AQDC. The operating system of this firmware is Android 7, with build date Thu, 27 Apr 2017 10:19:22 +0000. Security patch date is 2017-04-01, with changelist 11247461.

After dialing: *#2263#
I do see here that the following band elements are present:
GSM: 850, 900, 1800, 1900
WCDMA: 1, 2, 4, 5,
TDS: A, F
LTE: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 12, 13, 18, 19 20, 25, 26, 28, 39, 40, 41, 66, 252, 255
Does this mean that these are all enabled and available for the network to choose from?

Ah, one thing I forgot to add was that I had flashed the Verizon phone with my tmobile simcard present in the phone. It went through a process where it configured the phone based on the simcard present. Not sure if this is normal when an unlocked Galaxy S8+ is activated, but this behavior was unique because I did not experience this when I inserted the tmobile simcard into the verizon phone prior to flashing the firmware.
I know the US unlocked version from Samsung has the band 17 band, Att still uses band 17 in my area where I work and when I had the ATT version, I was always missing text messages and when i sent them my wife would only get half of them, so when i did some research looks like ATT did away with the Band 17 in ATT version of the S8+, so i went back to my Note 5 that`s has the band 17 in it and problem went away, so I have the US version unlocked coming tomorrow so well see if it works any better than the S8+ ATT version

Is there a difference between the "U" version and "U1" version... I usually buy the international "F" version but unfortunately this year it wasn't possible... So anyway it's supposed to be unlocked but don't know if it can be rooted

Strange that band 17 is not enabled on the USA unlocked firmware.
Band 12 on phones allows you to use band 17 on AT&T. Band 17 is 700 kHz block B and C, band 12 is 700mhz blocks A, B, and C.

AT&T's started to use Band 12 to connect both B17 and B12 devices from their towers in order to help roaming functionality between Tmobile and AT&T.
The Compare page at GSMarena website shows the bands of most versions of most common smartphones. B&H Photo does too. Note: Occasionally it is necessary to search for the phone version using its code, e.g. G955U, rather than its common name, to find it, but often the common name and version name (e.g. Sprint) suffice.
Also, I noticed that a version for the carrier called US Cellular reportedly had the same bands as an unlocked phone, at least according to gsmarena. Which means that version would be well suited for use with any of the major carriers.
All the us phones have and can use any of the bands it lists in specs. May need to flash a different carrier firmware to enable possible disabled bands. But I haven't seen any disabled. At least ony Xfinity mobile on Verizon towers

New AVINUSA PX6 Qualcomm unit

Hello folks. Long time lurker (tech info, phone comparisons, and troubleshooting) first time subscriber. I purchased the newest BMW AVINUSA android unit for my car. This unit has a Snapdrgon 625? which comes up as msm8953 for arm 64 (the imei says Viewsonic A8+) and is running android 10. I placed a SIM card into the unit (AT&T) and see a signal bar for 3G...but actually don't get any service. Upon further investigation, it seems that the LTE bands for the unit are only basic for US models (2, 4, 5, 7, 8, 34, 38, 39, 41) and have two of the core AT&T LTE bands (2*, 4, 5*, 12*, 14, 17*, 29, 30, 66). Because it's missing the backbone bands of 12 and 17, I got nothing. My question is: Because the unit is built with a custom ROM, is it already rooted? If not, how do I root it (checked the root forum and am still confused about it) and what's the best way to enable the backbone LTE bands and any other bands that is needed? Thanks for any and all advice.

I think international variants doesn't work with US 5G because these doesn't support combinations used in US and also 5G may not be enabled in your network. On 5G the device must support EN_DC combination used network. In cacombos.com you can check Carrier Aggregation and EN_DC combination support of devices.

Went to T-mobile store and they told me my SIM is fine and the reason for not receiving 5G or 4G LTE was because T-mobile was unable to recognize the ROG phone 5 in their system. They gave me a phone number to their customer service and asked me to explain to them that the phone is 5G capable and hopefully they can fix this problem.

Yes they couldn't help me as well. The tech support said the phone was not in their system as it's not a t-mobile phone and therefore not possible to get 5G. And for the record the phone is not even receiving 4G LTE. The only thing the phone is receiving is 4G.

This is nonsense why is Asus lying and selling this phone as 5g. With only 4g working this phone is worth only maybe 400 dollars not 1000 dollars plus. Really mad, planning on returning this phone back. Any suggestions guys what latest phone is good apart from Samsung with good speakers and battery life?

Either we wait for Asus official US release maybe they will push an update to fix this or if you have to return it I say go with One plus 9 pro as it seems the most compatible with T-mobile plus it's sold by T-mobile themselves.
There is a reason that so many of the sellers tell you to check the bands before purchasing the device for a specific carrier. It should also be noted that you cannot change the bands with a software update.
You can find the bands on https://www.gsmarena.com/asus_rog_phone_5-10715.php and then head over to T-Mobile and check https://www.t-mobile.com/support/coverage/t-mobile-network#tech to compare
5G bands1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 8, 12, 20, 25, 28, 38, 40, 41, 66, 71, 77, 78, 79 SA/NSA - Version 1 1, 3, 7, 8, 20, 28, 38, 41, 77, 78, 79 SA/NSA - Version 2, Version 3
5G
Frequencies that can provide 5G:
Band n71 (600 MHz)
Band n41 (2.5 GHz)
Band n260 (39 GHz)
Band n261 (28 GHz)
Version 1 supports 5G just like any Samsung device out there. Versions 2 and 3, on the other hand, only have LIMITED support for 5G and SA cannot be used (Settings -> Mobile Network -> 5G SA Mode)
What this means, in the simplest possible terms, is that you CAN get 5G if the specific tower where you connect provides the band that your device supports. Not to throw salt on it, but Version 2 and 3 also lack 4G band 12, which is the extended range band for T-Mobile.

I appreciate your help. The biggest question I have is how to tell which version of the phone you have. Mine at the time of purchase was listed as I005DA. I think Asus's biggest mistake was not releasing the phone in the US to begin with.
I am sorry for off topic.
I am planning on buying a ROG Phone 5 Tencent Games Editor phone, as this is the only version available to my local stores.
My question is, will this phone get OTA updates in international / global rom?

No it will not as far as I'm aware. But updating it is extremely easy. Just download the WW updates from Asus website and put it in your phone and restart the device and you should get a notification saying your phone has an update press on update and wait for it to finish. Your phone doesn't need to be rooted or anything at all.
I ended up returning it guys, not getting 5g is highly unacceptable in today's world. I got a Sony 1 ii for now it's quite good and gets 5g. Will get the Sony 1 iii in few months once it comes out.

I appreciate your help. The biggest question I have is how to tell which version of the phone you have. Mine at the time of purchase was listed as I005DA. I think Asus's biggest mistake was not releasing the phone in the US to begin with.

Excuse the rant for a minute, but there are a whole bunch of eBay and other sellers out there passing off their reflash devices as new, which makes it really hard for anyone to know what they bought because you get a Tencent device with a WW ROM and a manual in Chinese with the global apps.
The easiest way to know which device you have is to look in the box where the case and SIM pin were located. There should be a wax paper sheet with two black stickers on it. That will give you the exact model number.
If you got anything higher than 12GB RAM, it's Chinese. The European 16GB release isn't until the end of May and the Pro / Ultimate will come after that. The US was estimated for Q2, but it will also be the 12GB in the first release. If you got one claiming to be US, it's probably European (or Chinese).
