I have two SIMs: personal is eSIM, work is physical.
SIM 1 seems to be the physical one, so when calling a number for which no SIM preference is set, I get first work sim and then personal sim.
Any way to change this order?
thx
Can you change preferred sim in settings/network & internet/calls & sms?
I want to keep the choice of choosing every time I call, as not all my contacts have a default sim. Also in Android Auto I am always asked which sim to use, and with old phone with two 0hydical sims my personal was first on the list, now being virtual it's second

I am pretty sure that eSIM will always be default second, but I am not that experienced with eSIMs. Can you get an eSIM for work and swap in a physical for personal?

I am about to get a dual number Sim card for my phone, that is two phone numbers on one sim card simultaneously.
Now I know my really really old Motorola phone from 4 years ago had a simple function that translated the two numbers into "line 1" and "line 2" with ability to set different ringtones, etc for incoming calls and switching easily to make outgoing calls.
Does anyone know how this works on a Windows Mobile device? What kind of functionality does it provide?
I am running a Herald with WM6.
I would be interested too. I have a 8525 Cingy.
Phony-- Where did you get the Dual Line SIM? What carrier are you with? Will they activate more than 1 line on same SIM number?
DaddyGoFast, I am in China with China mobile but most carriers these days will provide you wih two numbers on one sim card if you just ask. Just call your service number.
There are other utilities you can buy that allow you to have multiple carriers or numbers on one sim card but those require that you switch by cycling power or using a piece of software, so in reality you can only use one number at a time.

Sorry, misread the thread.
any updates on a two number sim card in a WinMo phone?
The majority of dual sim phones have a WCDMA(3G) and GSM (2G) sim card slot as the primary slot and a GSM only sim card slot as the secondary. This means that only one sim can use a 3G connection, the other sim will only be able to pick up a 2G signal. So as long as you don’t plan on using the 3G internet connection on both sims you’ll be fine. The 3G sim card slot is marked with a “W”, the 2G sim card slot is marked with a “G”. There are plans for newer dual-sim Android phones which have dual 3G compatible sim slots.
When you turn on your phone you are greeted with two signal bars at the top of the phone, the first one is for the first sim slot, the second one is for the second sim slot. The majority of phones work in a dual standby mode, whereas a minority work in a dual active mode. Dual standby is when both sims can work at the same time, but say for example you use one sim card to make a call, the other sim card will not work and be on standby for the duration of the call. Dual active is where both sim cards will be active all the time, even during calls. An easy way to get around the Dual standby limitation of turning one sim off when you’re on a call is to set up call forwarding on both sims to each other. This means that if you are using Sim 1 on a call and someone calls you on Sim 2, which is on standby, the call will be forwarded to sim 1 with the active connection and will be listed as a waiting call which you can choose to answer. Simple!

You can manage both Sim cards from the settings. Just click on sim management at the top. Here you get the option to turn the Sim cards on and off at will and you can set the defaults for each sim. For example I use 3 as my data connection, where as I have O2 as my default for voice calls. You can also set the phone to always ask you which sim card to use. The picture below shows you what it looks like when you set it to “always ask”.
You can also assign contacts to certain Sim cards, this is useful when differentiating between work colleagues and personal contacts. The call/texts goes through on the sim of your choice no matter what. This can be changed from the contact itself, or from the sim management settings.
When you get a call or text, or if you send a call or text, the phone will display the Sim used. For example, you can see that one text was from my three number, another text was to my O2 number. You can also change these settings on the go. For example, when in the dialer or messaging service, drag down the notification bar and you get an option to switch to a different sim card as default.
Using a dual sim phone on Android is simple. You have all the options you need at the touch of a button.
how to set to ask ?!
My phone is LG optimus L5, E615, dual sim.
and android version 4.0.4 .
it has a shortcut key for changing primary sim for outgoing calls and messages but i want to set it in a way which ask me each time before making call or sending sms ! because i sometimes will forget which one is set as primary !
but in phone settings there is no option to choose it (
( in my phone, it's not like what you described here )
is there any app for this purpose ?!
So I have SIM1 for private contacts and SIM2 for work in my phone which runs Android 4.2.1.
I've used the Contact Binding to bind all the contacts from work to SIM2.
But when I choose a contact from work to call, the phone still pops up the box to choose via which SIM I want to make the call.
It does show a sort of favourite logo next to my work SIM, but what is the use of Contact binding if it still asks me for the SIM.
Anyone who has a solution for this problem? I can't figure it out.
I think this SDK / API from MediaTek is being used on the Dual SIM Android phones with MediaTek SoC:

I had the same problem with jiayu g4 (is it a problem?)
I bind my private and work contacts to the simcards, and in settings i can choose a standard calling sim or "ask each time".
If i choose a standard sim then contacts binded to this sim are dialed directly, but on other contacts the phone will ask every time.
Is there any solution to dial contacts immediately?

Thanks for the tip, I'll try that
It's not really a problem per se, but because my car sytem doesn't know how to deal with a Dual SIM phone (like every bluetooth connected in-car system here in Europe I guess). It will always dial using the first SIM and won't ask for SIM. The first SIM is the only slot I have with 3G support so I have to have my private SIM in that (first) slot and my work SIM in the second slot.
I also asked Cubot the same question, they were going to look into it (for whatever that's worth)
That was really a great tip!
I've seperated all my contacts with contact binding between both SIM's (private and work) and have set the default for Voice calls to my work SIM.
When calling a work contact it will immediately dial through work SIM, when calling a private contact it will first ask.
I know it's still not exactly as it should be, but at least it makes everything al lot easier
I am happy to help you.

I don't think it's an app. It's some sort of setting. The Allview P6 Stony, Fly IQ444 and NGM Legend XL all use the same hardware.
The Fly IQ444 can associate contacts with a SIM only after adding the following code to the build.prop
Code:
ro.gn.association.sim=yes
ro.gn.association.sim_switch=yes
The P6 Stony can't associate contacts with a SIM at all
(Well ok, if you add the code AND use the FLY IQ 444 settings.APK it works
Finally the NGM Legend XL has an extra option which you can enable (settings -> Sim management -> Default SIM) to direct call with the correct SIM without any popups.
So the same phone with three different versions... why o why can't I find the Legend XL ROM anywhere :crying:
These phones are based on the MediaTek MT6577 SoC right?
And most of them onlu run Android 4.0 ICS?
Maybe the versions of the MRE SDK used for these phones are older than on the newer MediaTek MT6589 / Android 4.2 phones?

In my car using Bluetooth it still doesn't work like I would like it to work unfortunately.
When Voice call dialing has been set to a specific SIM instead of on Always ask, dialing a number will always go over that specific SIM, even when dialing a contact that's bound to the other SIM.
Fortunately most calls I make in the car are work related, so no real biggy. But too bad it's not quite optimal.

Freelander PX2 - SIM won't activate (no network)
Hi,
First, thanks for your explanation.
My tablet (Freelander PX2 with Android 4.2.1 with Kernel 3.4.5) sees my SIM card when I put it inside the slot (both of them, the one or the other).
It says "No SIM card inserted in slot 2" when I put a SIM in the first one.
But I can't make phone calls: there is no network signal and when I activate the SIM in Parameters>SIM management>SIM 1, and nothing happens when I click on "Unlock" when he ask for it.
As you say, the tablet is always in dual active mode (both sims work at the same time because there is two empty network signals in the notification bar).
Please, what should I do? I plan to use only one SIM (the 3G) for the moment.
Thanks,
Nick

Hi, i do have a problem with my dual sim management in a Lenovo A800...
My SIM1 slot is the 3G card, while SIM2 slot is the phone/sms card...The problem is that whenever ia am uding actively the 3g, not in a standby mode, i am losing calls in the second sim...
Is there any way to change thiw?? for example to make the second SIM as the default one??
If contact association/ binding doens’t work the way you want it, check out the app “SIM Selector”. I must say it wasn’t first mentioned by me, but by Zimtsäure in this post here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=44478879&postcount=83
On my Allview P6 Stony the app also seems to work fine with my carkit. Finally my car dials the number with the right SIM. (Still testing though, but first results look good)
@nick_highj: Seeing two network signals doesn’t mean the phone is dual active.
Dual active is being able to actually use both SIMS at the same time. Like having a call on hold on SIM1 and taking a call on SIM2. In dual passive phones you also see two network indicators, but once you use a SIM the other SIM will switch to voice mail or unreachable.
@ctzulu: This would only be possible on a dual active phone which supports two 3G connections. I think it’s a hardware thing not software. Having a faster provider would be an easier solution.
@morrison100: Strange. Based on the dual active – passive thing I’d say if a call comes in you’d loose the 3g connection. Not the other way around. Like calls have higher priority than data. At least that’s how it works on my Allview P6 Stony. Although I never heard of it your device might have a setting to indicate priority between data or phone.
I think I figured it out, there is a tick box under the "more" tab on wireless and networks menu, where I should have checked the GPRS transfer prefer mode to be Call prefer. If not checked, its getting greyish, and changes to data prefer.
so is there no way that a dual standby phone can be used as a dual active phone? i know its a stupid post but i think that the difference shud be just software related and not hardware related
So, every time I dial a contact I need to select which sim to use. This is fine when using the dial pad, but its a bit annoying when using direct dial.
Is there any way to pre assign a sim to a specific contact or do something similar to automatic sim selection, like what Motorola has?
Thanks in advance

Lolipop Dual SIM automatic selection problem
Hi, well, alternative dialers were always here - I personally use TrueDialer, which automatically detect preffered SIM based on Call history and other parameters
BUT - after upgrade to Lolipop on Xperia Z3 dual sim, this not possible anymore. Since the upgrade Truedialer and others automatically selects the right SIM but then SIM selection from the system pops up anyway . This is an annoying problem - anybody know how to fix it?
Cheers

Hi All
Dont know how many of us use dual sim phones on hear, or how you use it.
I like to give different people different numbers.
I had an app dual sim selector pro working on my s9 but it doesn't work on my S10, I was able to dial a number the app would ask me to select which sim I wanted to use and the next time I dialed the number it would automatically use the same sim.
Dose anyone know of a similar app
Thanks in ad
The built in dialer already does this, it will save the number with the sim icon on the left, if you want to change the default just tap the 3 dots and select call with sim 1|2
I'm also interested since "dual sim selector pro" has been discontinued.
The app provided additional benefits such as assigning a default sim to account. So all numbers in my work account use my work sim, and all numbers in my google account use my own sim.

Hi maddow
I found that by downloading the apk and installing it it still works as before
Why was dual Sim selector pro app discontinued? Why does it consume battery? I can't put it to sleep because it won't work when I needed it to decide for me which Sim to use. I also have a corporate Sim and a personal Sim.
FYI, I found that this app:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.steffen_b.multisimselector&hl=nl
Now does about the same as the old "dual sim selector pro"
For those on dual sim, does data on the secondary sim ever get used. In Sim Card Mgr there is a toggle to use it during a phone call but other than that , say my primary data sim is poor, I wish it would use the one with the better connection automatically but I do not think this is an option

I have a Samsung Galaxy Note, SM-N986B/DS.
No, my experience is, you can't set data usage to automatically,
But why don't you just choose Sim2, for data usage.?
While back i had 2 x Sims in my device.
(One Sim is a just a data Sim, loaded with 10 gigs data each month )
The other Sim only had 1 gig data on it, each month .)
I set my preferences as follow in Sim Manager ......
Calls.... Sim 1
SMS.... Sim1
Data ( mobile)... Sim 2
Worked fine.
No issues.
If i switched my mobile data on it would
use Sim 2 data.
However,
I have since changed my setup.
Took second Sim out of phone,
as i experience
"more battery drain" (overnight )
than when i was using
only one sim and/or sd card.
Good luck.

Yes ,it's was just the opposite situation for me ,where i had more data on Sim 2 .
However, overall i guess it never worried me, as i am 90% on wifi .
I also noticed ,more battery use age of keeping mobile data on ,than wifi.
I guess the only option left ,would be to manually, change to preferred data Sim .
As far as i can remember the best option ,
( when i had 2 Sims in my phone )
i would swipe down to expand phone quick settings
and my Sim preferences , showed ,just under the phone ,quick settings icons .
I would then long press on the preferred data Sim choice and change it there.
It was better than going all the way to Sim Manager .
Good luck

Hmmm, the battery thing is interesting. I've tried so hard to get dual sim, flashing TMB onto Unlocked but now the battery thing is a bummer. If that is what causing it. I just turned off 120 refresh rate to see if that improves battery

Firstly,
Yes, only thing you can do
is "toggle" it manually, like you described.
Secondly,
with 2 x Sims in my phone
i found that my average "sleep" over night
was example......
+- 12 % battery drainage, over period of +-8/10 hours (sleep.)
Further the way i see it,
is that even with phone in
sleep mode, it still trying to get better signal reception.... x 2...? whilst
This i checked via Betterbattery app.
Secondly,
I am back on one sim.
My average sleep overnight is
8 % for 10/12 hours sleep.!
Bottom line,
It's your phone.
That battery diffs, is no big deal...
For me it was an irritating issue. thats all
If you happy with 2x sims
keep it that way!
Good luck

Previously, say I had Sim 1 for data and Sim 2 for calls and i got a call on Sim 2, then Sim 1 was unable to access data but this has now changed with N20U
If I understood this correctly then I think my device is different cos regardless of which Sim is primary or secondary, I have an option under settings>connections>mobile networks> allow all Sims to use data in calls, which I can toggle on or off. I have found selecting this allows the other sim to use data which was not possible in some earlier android versions.

But not when I'm in a call. I needed to use data from my secondary sim because I was in a dead spot for first sim. I am interested to purchase a SM-N986B DS for my dual sim work/personal cell in the US near NYC. I have metro PCS and Verizon. Will this phone allow verizon to operate as the second sim? It would be a non-data sim. I know it is a GSM phone and not CDMA but also read that the LTE bands may be compatible at 4g/5g. Curious before I take the dip to buy and find out it won't work...
