(Fixed) esim not recognized with LineageOS 20 - Google Pixel 4a Questions & Answers

Hello,
I am in France on the Free network.
I have a brand new Pixel 4a. I loaded my esim with Android 13 before installing LineageOS 20.
Under android, I tested the calls and SMS without having any problem.
I installed LO20 following this procedure: https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/sunfish/install
On the form, there is no mention of unsupported hardware like the esim : https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/sunfish/
Moreover, on this forum, it is indicated on the thread of disuction of LineageOS18.1 that the esim is functional. You need the Gapp to modify it, but if it is already installed you don't need it : https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/rom-official-sunfish-lineageos-18-1.4255751/
When I go to the "Networks and Internet" settings, "Calls and SMS" is grayed out and when I click on SIM Profiles, nothing happens.
Have you ever had this problem?
Can you please help me?
I don't have a nano sim to put in ...
Thanks in advance

I found the solution on Reddit:
https://www.reddit.com/r/LineageOS/comments/mxubrg
:
"Just want to add this reply since I came up to this post while figuring out how to use an anonymous data plan from silent link with my phone with lineageos. You need to install the app "sim manager" from google which you can download from apkmirror for example. Might also need microg. Before you can't even open the "sim" tab in the options. Then it works."
I don't know why but this area of the settings was activated after installing the "sim manager" package. It recognized my esim free installed on android.

Did you have to install microG, or some GApps package?
Or, did "SIM Manager" get your eSIM working with plain LOS20 ?
Thanks for your info.

I have not installed any Gapps. It was Sim Manager that made the eSim work.

[Q] SuperSU Cannot change configuration

Hi, first post
I flashed my TMOBILE US [SGH-T999] SIII with root66 and all went well. verified with rootkeeper I'm indeed rooted. Problem is when I first configured superSU i checked hide from apps list (figured id still be able to get it in /system) So although it asks for permission and still fully functional I cannot open the app to change the configuration. There was some codes *#*#1234#*#* amongst others I thought would bring up the app, but because the sim is no longer registered to a network it just gives a network error.
This has been going on for a week and would really appreciate a solution. Going to google play doesn't show any options. just a picture. If i disable in manage apps i can then deactivate on google play, but it didn't help. Also re flashed rom and nothing changed.
Should be able to open the app somewhere on the phone right? use file explorer to delete some config file that will reset to default?

Hi, to open supersu through the dialpad, please enter the following:
*#*#1234#*#*
or
*#*#7873778#*#* which spells(*#*#SUPERSU#*#*)
If that didn't work, check if supersu is still installed by going to manage applications.

Yeah mentioned the codes in my post. my girlfriend has a deathgrip on the phone right now but i'm pretty sure the exact error was: Not registered on network. I also mentioned that superSU is indeed installed cause I can clear su's data, etc from the manage apps area. I use groove IP for phone calls and I've been putting the code in the phone settings not the groove voip app if that matters.
bumped after a few days of waiting patiently.
Hi i was having similar issues, did you try
*#234#* instead of *#*#234#*#* that worked for me before although my issue now is different.
i was getting an error and work around it by installing
System app remover (root) from play store
then went to apkmanger and click on reinstal Supersu, that bring back the icon
that did not solve my problem of the dialing code not working anymore, but it got me to super su app
hope it helps

[SOLVED] How to enable Google Now on Android 5.0 Lollipop Nexus 5

***PLEASE CHECK OUT UPDATE METHOD AT THE END!***
For those of you who cannot get Google now to work because you live in “Other countries", here's a fix that works for the Nexus 5 running the official Android 5.0 Lollipop released yesterday (Thursday 13th).
Here are the possible problems you ran into:
1. In Google Search's setting, you are unable to "flick on" Google Now with text "Google Now requires location services which are not available."
2. You signed out of the Google account, cleared Google Search app, uninstalled updates from Google Play Services, and signed in again. But after you click "Yes, I'm in" in you get a simple message saying "This account is not eligible for Google Now"
Be sure that your device's language is in English (United States)
Fix:
1. Download and install Market Unlocker (I am apparently a new member and not allowed to post links)
2. If your country blocks Google Play (eg. China), download SpeedVPN
3. If you are logged into Google: Settings-->Accounts-->Google-->*Click on your email*-->Three button on top right-->Remove Account
4. Go into Settings-->Apps -->Clear data for both Google Play Services and Google Search
5. Now open Market Unlocker --> Enable Unlocker (Default should be Verizon United States, if not, swipe right and choose that)
6. Turn of the phone.
7. Important: remove SIM card
8. Turn on the phone, connect to wifi, and open SpeedVPN -->Choose "United States"
9. Long press on homescreen -->Settings--> turn on Google Now
10. Log in and you should get your Google Now working.
11. Put back your SIM card
Hope it helps guys. Let me know if you run into any problems during this process.
UPDATE!
HERE'S A NEW METHOD THAT WORKS FOR LOLLIPOP ON NEXUS 5 as of February 1st 2015
This method has also been tested on Nexus 4 running Lollipop 5.0 as well. Here are the steps
1. Make sure you are rooted and have a working VPN
2. Download and install "location report enabler"
3. Run it and grant root access
4. Restart phone, turn on airplane mode with Wi-Fi on
5. Set VPN to country like America or England
6. Clear data for Google Launcher, Play services, Play store
7. Settings--> Location--> Google ----> enable location
8. Sign out of Google account
9. Back to home screen, use Google search to "remind me to buy milk"
10. Go through sign in steps
11. Back to home screen and swipe left. Voila!
Again if you have any questions please comment!

How about before step 1 you turn on airplane mode and in step 3 you uninstall updates + disable Google play services?

Same for me, I just cannot get it to work. Tried several times, also uninstalled the updates of Google Play Services. And yes, I am rooted...
I also removed my Exchange account and disabled all device administrators
When it says account not eligible and goes back to google search just make it remind something (eg - remind me to sleep in 10 minutes) before doing anything else and it should automatically enable google now and take you to google now. Worked for me and hope this helps yall

Interestingly I didn't even get to try it out.
Google Now worked after following the steps mentioned by dollarside. However, it was probably the 5th I've tried.
Might be related to Market Unlocker that didn't seem to work at first. I used the guide from here (including proxy settings) and downloaded the latest version (3.5.1). After rebooting I made sure that the app actually said Market successfully changed (I had failed before after the reboot).
Another reason could be that I used Astrill VPN before (with different US servers). The last and successful attempt was with SpeedVPN.
In the end I cannot say what helped. Being persistent turned out to be successful. This time.
it's work for me in second try without rooting or using market unlocker.
on my nexus 4 from Iran
Perfect !:good:
Works on 5.0.1

Yay the new update (Google App 4.1.24.1672412.arm) works with the old trick I used.
The old trick if anyone needs it (Needs root) -
Install Titanium Backup. Install a File Manager and a Launcher. I used ES File Explorer and Nova Launcher.
Find and download com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox-2.6.7.721924.arm version of Google Search and copy it to your phone. (Won't post the link because it's not allowed. You can find it in Androidfilehost)
Open Titanium Backup and tap on "Backup/restore". Scroll down to Google Search and tap on it. Do a backup by tapping "Backup!!" (Just in case) Then tap on "Un-Install!" (Make sure you have a different launcher installed before doing this!!")
Restart your phone.
Open the file manager, navigate to the folder where you copied the Google Search 2.6.7.721924 apk and install it. Open it and it will ask to Opt in to Google Now. Tap on "Yes I'm in".
Download and install the latest update from APKMirror Google App 4.1.24.1672412.arm.
And you are done! Feel free to remove the other launcher and file manager.

Can't Re-enable Hi, I just rooted my Galaxy S7 6.0.1 Snapdragon G-930P SprPackage?!?!

Hi, I just rooted my Galaxy S7 6.0.1 Snapdragon G-930P Sprint using the tutorial found at the link below. Anyways, I did everything it said, including disable software update using package disabler. I fixed my LTE and WiFi problem but I didn't realize that I can't call. I googled it and it says I need to update my profile and PRL. The problem is that the updater is disabled. I tried to re-enable it with package disabler and another application WITH root privleges. Does anyone know how to fix?
The error I get when calling says "The number or code you have dialed is incorrect, please dial and try again."

You may need to re-enable the three packages you have already disabled
Enable the three packages disabled . Go into the phone dialer and type in ##72786# and your phone should reboot and begin the activation process. After the 5th retry, it will manually activate itself. It should say "writing to device". Don't click done yet. Press the home button and disable the three packages once again. Reboot.
Alternatively, after re-nabling the three packages and dialing ##72786#, you can go into Settings>Activate this device and manually try to activate it yourself. It still must say "writing to device". Don't click done. Disable the packages once again. Reboot. Voice and LTE should stick.

but remember not to use apps that you didn't purchase yourself because they had put efforts into it

"Unknown sources" missing on Oreo

Hi, since the Oreo update I can't find the "Unknown sources" to install APK's freely. I'ts not under "Lock Screen and Security", and I have enabled Chrome in "Applications/Special Access/Install other apps" and I'm trying to install apps from the "Downloads" section of chrome, but it dosn't work this way either.
I was trying to install the Pixel Launcher as seen from here: https://theunlockr.com/2018/03/13/make-samsung-galaxy-s9-look-like-stock-android/
But everytime I try it I get the "<!> Application not installed".
I don't know exactly what says in english, I'm using my phone in spanish.
Any ideas? Thanks!
If you go to Settings-Apps-3 Dots-Special Access-Install Unknown Apps.
They've moved it so only certain apps can install unknown apps
Please help how to fix this problem. This doesn't work, I tried installing Accuweather pro several times. I have the app saved to my Google Drive, I click on the app and I see something called 'Staging App' and then I get this alert ' There was a problem parsing the package'. I currently had an older version of Accuweather pro installed and working fine. I decided to remove the old version and then reinstall it and I received the same alert. FYI the old Accuweather app was installed before the Oreo update.

Have you tried downloading your APP file from Google Drive to your phone then opening the copy on your phone, that should install the .apk
Go to settings on the phone >> apps >> 3 vertical dots at the top right corner >> special access >> install unknown apps >> and there enable the permission from where you are trying to download it.
All thank you,
I found out that you now have to download the app to your phone. Google Drive does not allow you to download and manually install .
Dear sir/madam,
Following your answer, in specific this part, "They've moved it so only certain apps can install unknown apps", perhaps someone could help me out. I use the Firefox Focus browser and this app doesn't show up in the list of apps that are allowed to install unknown apps.
* Does this mean Firefox Focus can't install apps from unknown apps, since it's not on the list?
* And perhaps we can conclude from that it will never be allowed to do so?
* Or would this app not be on this list, because I've never tried installing anything using this browser?
I guess the real question would be, what populates this list?
I hope to hear from you, thanks in advance, all the best.
Form what I've seen, 1st time you try to install apk from an app it asks you if you want to allow it?

That's what I was thinking as well, funny thing is that 'Google Chrome' is in the list and I've never used that browser. Unless it's there, because it's from Google
I have followed the above suggestions and have allowed Chrome to install apps since that's the browser I'm using. The phone says I have downloaded the app but it is not giving me any option to install it? Where did the download go and how can I get it actually installed? This is an app for work.
Edit: Nevermind - I restarted the phone and tried again and it worked. thanks.

Google Pay Issues

Hi Guys.
I am having issues with trying to get Google Pay working on the Mi Mix 3. I have the latest stable China MIUI 10.0.11.0 installed.
Everything is set up fine since this device already has the Google Services Framework pre-installed and I have it all working Play Store, Assistant, Contacts sync, Calendar sync etc.
The device is bootloader locked and fully passes all Safety Net testing but even still, when I try to add my card to Google Pay it goes through all the way to Verifying with your Bank and then instead of getting the OTP message to successfully link the card, it comes up with 'Additional features couldnt be added please contact your bank'.
I rang my bank and they said it's all fine from their end. I know previously people have had issues with getting Google Pay to work on the China ROM but I thought this time since the Framework and Play Services were pre-installed and that it fully passes SafetyNet that it would work. It's a shame as everything else is working perfectly.
Has anyone else managed to get their cards successfully added and working?
Thanks.
For me Google Pay works with root and Magisk.
No play store certification, check at the bottom of the play store settings. Xiaomi.eu roms fix this.

No it is certified on the Play Store, I just checked and it says 'Device is Certified'. This is why it's even more strange.
Anyone managed to get it to work with their card?
Yes. See my post above. There's no way around Magisk at this time, because it has to hide that the device isn't PlayStore certified.

Hi. Thanks for your advice but I know it will work if I root and use Magisk hide, but it should be working without it being rooted. As I said it's showing as certified in the Play Store and it already fully passes SafetyNet without having to root or flash the Xiaomi.eu ROM.
Also just tried it with a Revolut MasterCard and managed to successfully add it to Google Pay, so perhaps it is something to do with my bank.
Is there any news regarding MIX 3 to use Google Pay , As my one on the any coming, GPay is soooo important for but I dont have MasterCard, Or is there any new solution ?? Thks a lot !!
Fixed mobile paying (not-google pay, can't test that myself) by going to "More" in settings under "Wireless and networks" and then changing "Default Wallet" to "HCE wallet".
So Host Card Emulation (HCE) isn't enabled when you have the default option selected so it just does *nothing* when you try and pay. After changing this my banking app its mobile payments are working perfectly.
Maybe this will also fix Google pay but this works for those people who have a mobile paying app setup but the phone just does nothing when you try to pay.

Unfortunately I switched to a GSI ROM before making this change to HCE Wallet, which is likely what's causing the issues with Google Pay at the moment. Placing the phone over the terminal doesn't activate anything, which is the exact symptom you've described.
I wonder if there's a root level config that we could exploit and change? That's a potential solution for those who moved into GSI ROMs without making the necessary setting.
Give Google pay all permissions it will activate the OTP then
I've just met the same problem as yours. After hours of working, nothing helps.
I updated magisk to 18.2 and it can pass safetynet check, tried 3 different banks' credit cards and switched to HCE wallet, gave GPay all permisions, but none of these worked.
But since other people succeed with mix3, this should not be the hardware problem.
I don't know what else I can do to fix this GPay, if anyone of you have idea please tell me I 'll give u my highest appreciate

Hi-
I had the exact same problem just start yesterday.
So here's what I did:
1. download the Magisk 1.8 found here in this forum: title is "Magisk 18.1 for Mi Mix 3 available"
2. Follow these instructions on how to install it (google "how to install magisk XDA")
(essentially install the zip through TWRP and then the Magisk Manager)
3. Then after everything is installed, go into the manager and under the menu on left choose Magisk Hide and choose Google Pay
4. Then you have to go to your Apps manager, clear data and cache of Google Pay and Google Play Services
5. I rebooted just for good measure
6. then I had to re-add all my cards and this time it let me (before it was saying I can't re-add my card because my phone was rooted, etc)
My guess is that you have to do the data and cache wipe of step 4.
good luck.

Thanks for your help but your problem may not same as mine.:crying:
Earlier the GPay said can't work because of rooted devices, this can be solved by downgrade the Google play services and upgrade manully to a work one, the lateset G services can detect magisk. Or just upgrade the magisk to 18.2 may also help.
But my problem is not Gpay told me rooted devices or something like that. I can go on the bank statement page and then, after that, the Gpay said it cannot work and I should contact to my bank. All of my 3 different banks cards said so. I just searched on XDA and google, this is not the banks problem, some people with the same peoblem as I do said GPay denied the contactless pay suddenly and then worked few days after.
And I contacted Citi Bank for help, they just said everything's right with my card.
I think this may be the MIUI's problem. I'm having the Chinese rom.
Anyway, thank you for your kindness.
