Question IMEI / fingerprint problems... Any fix? - Google Pixel 7 Pro

So today I'm doing the usual flashing of new roms to try them out and I run into a problem. During device setup, Google Fi fails to activate giving error code B042, and also errors out when it's time to register my fingerprint. Didn't think much of it at first, but now I've tried everything I can think of with no luck. Eventually I notice both IMEIs are listed as all zeros. I've wiped data multiple times, reflashed many factory and custom rom versions both with Android flash tool and manually, and always get the same issue with Fi activation and fingerprint scanner not working. I talked with Google techs and they just tell me to take it to Best Buy where it was purchased. I'm thinking a partition must have corrupted or something that doesn't restore during a typical reflash. Can anyone comment on what's going on, and if there's a way to go about fixing it myself. I do have both IMEIs listed on the box if there's a way to go about restoring them, but I doubt that would do anything with the fingerprint problem if even possible. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Been on these forums for a decade and this may be my first time posting since I've always been able to work through problems myself, but I'm totally stuck on this one. Oh and the Pixel 7 pro I just bought to mess around with root and roms as a second phone, and my main S22u is still working fine, so not exactly an emergency or anything. Thanks in advance.

Sounds like your EFS partition got corrupted...
I haven't done anything with my P7P, it's stock, so can't offer any advice other than a google search to get you started... here

If the mod will erase it not state it. You mess with that you are on your own? Broke the op as well. Just delete it.

Replaced SIM Card -- Now Can't Log In!

I really hope someone can help me with this, because I'm going crazy.
This will require a little history, so bear with me. A couple of weeks ago, I lost my Fuze. Last week, I bought a cheap (prepaid) AT&T GoPhone and called AT&T to have my number transferred to it. I used that phone successfully for several days, until this morning, when my lost phone showed up!
I was ecstatic, thinking that now I'd finally be able to sleep again p), but my excitement changed to disappointment after spending 30 or 40 minutes on the phone with AT&T, explaining my situation over and over to get them to understand what I needed, then following their instructions, and finding that my phone wouldn't work.
They informed me that my old SIM card had been disabled and was therefore useless, and suggested that I put the card from my GoPhone in my Fuze. I did so, but when I then turned the phone on, I got this message:
*****
Owner: Keith Russell
(xxx) xxx-xxxx
Enter your password and tap "Unlock". You can also enter an emergency phone number.
*****
My phone has been passworded in the past, but not recently, because I was trying to resolve some problems and was doing a lot of soft resets and didn't want to have to deal with the logon security. On the other hand, I'm pretty sure the message I was seeing was one I had never seen before. Nevertheless, I tried all the passwords I could think of that I had used on the phone in the past, but none of them worked. Every time, I got this message:
The password you typed is incorrect.
I called AT&T again, and this time spent over an hour on the phone with an AT&T rep and later, an HTC rep. We tried several default passwords, which also didn't work, and the HTC rep finally had me do a hard reset.
I installed my registered version of Sprite Backup 6.5 and restored my most recent good backup. The restore was successful and the application did a soft reset when it was done. Things seemed to be working fine and I spent a couple of hours cleaning up duplicate or large notes to free up memory. I also emptied the recycle bin in Resco Explorer. I then did a soft reset, thinking that might help with the cleanup.
Believe it or not, when the soft reset completed, I got the unlock prompt again!
So I'm stuck. I'm hesitant to do yet another hard reset and restore, because I expect that the same thing would happen again, eventually. I'm also not very excited about calling AT&T Support, because they didn't seem to know any more than I did about this problem.
I have no idea where this unlock prompt is coming from: whether it's hardware, firmware, OS, or application specific. I do have Pocket Secure installed and it's possible that that's what causing it; I just don't know.
Can anyone tell me what's causing this and how I can get around it?
Thanks very, very much for any suggestions you can provide.
u cant do a full restore with sprite as what ever it has that makes the prompt will come back, do custom dont add anything but your contacts and messages.

Wifi / Bluetooth / Sim Card Issues Since Last Two OTA Updates

I received an OTA Update in early to mid May. I am now forgetting which version I received at that time. ( I forget as I have done so many downgrades/upgrades/factory resets in my troubleshooting the last month!) Up until these issues, I've never rooted or flashed a ROM, or unlocked boot loader or anything. My N5 had always been completely stock.
First Issue
It all started with just the sim card. I get "no sim card" message, even though it was in there. This was my original SIM card and I had never ejected it since I bought it new. I found I could turn it off, pop it out and back in, and boot it again. Sometimes it will see the sim card again. It may take 20 times, but finally work.
I naturally got a new sim card, as well as confirmed said sim cards worked in other phones. My wifi and bluetooth were working fine at first. Working with google support, they recommended a factory reset to fix the sim card issue. Immediately after the factory reset, my bluetooth would no longer turn on nor show a MAC address. At this point, my wifi was fine.
Second Issue
In addition to the sim card slot issue, now my Bluetooth no longer works! Around this time, I received another OTA update, this time it was 5.1.1 LMY48B. I had hoped it would fix the issues, but no dice! I start reading up on the XDA forums as I am determined to start rolling back to see if this will fix anything. I unlocked the boot loaded, rooted, etc following the threads on XDA
Third Issue
I do all sorts of flashing to hammerhead-krt16m_4.4 to hammerhead-ktu84p_4.4.4 to hammerhead-lrx21o_5.0 to hammerhead-lmy48b_5.1.1 . On the final flash back to 5.1.1 my wifi now no longer works!!!!!!!!!!! It is stuck at wifi turning on and no MAC address shows. It also seems my cell data is very very slow now!
After many calls to google, I think I finally succeeded in getting a “ticket routed up”. My phone is from the play store around 10/31/2013. They keep pushing I am out of warranty. I attempt to ask for a refurb N5 without luck so far. I am not very confident anything will come from google. This being my only handset now, it is just not an option to send this to LG. My current state is my voice/txt and cell data are working. Data seems a little slow but usable. Wifi and bluetooth won't turn on. I also still have the sim car slot issue upon rebooting. After a bunch of reboots it will eventually see sim card.
What else can I try? Is there a better way to attempt to repair/reload my radio drivers? Perhaps there is corruption of sorts? I have not tried a custom ROM or radio or kernel…… I did take to a local tech. They looked at everything literally under a microscope and did not see any issues that way. I am in the USA and have a lgd820. Although we are quick to assume a hardware issue, I am wondering if there is some sort of incompatibility with the first run of N5 and lollipop….. who knows!
I’ve read all sorts of threads on the internet. It seems I am not the only one. We are very quick to assume it must be a bad motherboard, it just seems too coincidental to me!

Hi,
This link was actually what i was going to suggest. It seems you've tried pretty much everything in the book except that.
I think its worth a try. Same as any other learning process, take your time and read the whole thing once or twice until you feel comfortable with the process. Then go for it.
Darn it, I should have downloaded those programs BEFORE rooting my phone again. Now I a struggloing to get my SIM card detected again to get data to DL them! whooops!
How would I go about attempting to read my files first to see if they are accessible and potentially write down my old MACs first?
EDIT: I found this but not sure how to get that working? I have Windows 7 and CMD prompt at this point. what program is that using?

OK, I went through those steps. everything appeared to go through correctly. Still no wifi nor bluetooth
EDIT: I rebooted a second time. WHen it first boot up, wifi was on and connected to my works AP. I quickly went in and snagged a screen shot of MAC address. Oddly enough, it did not match what I had input via hex editor. Within a few moments the wifi stopped working. It is back to the turning wifi on issue..... bluetooth still not working as well.
Very interesting.....
EDIT2: I get access denied when attempting to read either files within their corresponding folders under persist.
I was able to copy my stock files into my sdcard download folder and read them there without issue. Thus seeing my default addresses for both!
Perhaps it is normal, but I am never able to edit the old or new files under persist. I basically renamed original folders to bluetoothold and wifiold. I could delete them perhaps.
Note that I put my phone into airplane mode before doing anything noted in the steps.
Any other ideas? Given that it is showing my original MAC address the one time it worked, this makes me think that it is not reading the files .macaddr at all
I have the same problem. Funny thing is, the phone is just over 2 years old and the motherboard was replaced just 9 months ago (so, brand new one).
In my case, I received and Android update 2 days before I found the phone burning hot and restarting on it's own. Then the same chain of events you describe started to unleash. Now I can't be sure if this is software related, hardware related or both.
Can't seem to find a solution to the issue either.

I'm facing the same issues and I tried all the possible steps I could find on internet trying to repair the problem.
Actually, since the latest updates I was encountering some issues with the WiFi only: not turning on either off and not showing properly the MAC addres. So I decided to factory reset, even SDcard and since yesterday I have tried all the possibile guide I found to internet to fix the MAC address not showing and the WiFi not turning on/off but nothing worked. I tried even to flash again the old factory images, such as KitKat, Lollipop, etc., to lock the bootloader again and to dismantle the phone in order to clean the motherboard, but nothing worked. Phone still gives me MAC address 02:00:00:00:00:00 alternatively with the correct one, I can't figure out on what it depends because sometime it seems to work: it shows the correct MAC, it connects to wifi network; suddenly it doesn't!
I'm really going crazy to understand what's wrong.
You'll have to dig up my final posts on this , but in a nutshell, send into LG for repair, select cheapest option they offer. Receive mint phone. My cost was $45 and about one month... I picked up a cheap $20 phone to get me by.
In other news.... I now have a 6p!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Prevent the "Security policy prevents use of..." issues on J337u

Hello All,
So I have already smashed one of these phones against a wall; that is how frustrated I am right now. I got a couple of SG J3s (J337U), which are unlocked but unfortunately, cannot get them to work. The recognize my sim card and all, but as soon as they get data connectivity, knox enrollment service runs and mobile data gets deactivated, and calls are blocked ("Call not sent" error). I have not been able to find any way around this; it seems there is no way to root this device and there are not custom roms or twrp for this. I have tried to uninstall/disable all the apps that reference knox using adb, but so far, no luck. Someone mentioned there were able to use a magisk patched boot image to go around a similar issue, but when I created a patched image with magisk and try to flash using odin, I get a failure. I am hoping someone can help me figure this out before smash the others against something I bought these as presents for folks in my neighborhood and now I cannot return them as I had to toss the cases to make room while flying home. I appreciate any and all help I can get.
Thanks

carriers are getting sneakier about ways to get their phones locked and many have resorted to firmware that only allows calls over a specific set of conditions. TextNow wireless is one that comes to mind. They use the handset as an EMTA basically and the calls are all completed via VOIP to the switch. Thats hard enough to deal with let alone if they also implement use of a VPN to go with it. i say this assuming that youre trying to use the phone on a network it wasnt sold at the store originally for, correct?
I'm having the same issue with this a10e running and.10. i can't activate mobile data it says security policy won't allow mobile data connection. I have beat my head against the wall trying all these fixes for hours now. I could really use some help please.
I have a Galaxy SM-J337U (J3 2018) and its doing the same. Sees SIM and carrier, but will not make a call, receive a call, send or receive a text. Wondering if someone solved this

(Solved) Cannot Sign Into Older, Factory-reset Device: "Unable to sign in due to unknown error..."

[Edit: Just a quick note to let folks know, if there was anyone who cared at all, that this issue has resolved itself. I have no real understanding why, but I did a few more "Factory Resets", both with "Wipe Userdata and Personalizations" and with just "Wipe Userdata". Whatever I did just seemed to work as my wife was able to sign in afterwards. When she did I removed her account from the phone, did the multi-wipe procedure again and was able to sign in as myself. That was the goal.
Thanks very much, again, to the folks who commented on my question!]
Hey All,
I have an older device, a Moto X Pure, that I've done the factory reset/wipe all data thing via the stock Recovery. The device is on the latest update that Moto provided 3 (or is it now 4) years ago now, Android 7.1. Other than an unlocked bootloader, everything else is on the device is stock and unrooted, although it does not have a SIM card installed in it at this time. In fact, the entire reason that I'm trying to initialize it is to test a number of different mobile service providers to find the best provider for my, largely rural, common travel pathways.
However, once I enter my wifi info successfully and try to sign into this device with my Google ID/password, I cannot do it. Instead I get an error message that starts with the text that's in quotes in the post subject. The message continues with "try another account, or wait 24 hours and try again." Now, I've done the 24-hour wait thing several times, but the result is the same.
The phone was my wife's daily driver until I replaced it a couple of months ago. I've had her try to sign into it as well, but she can't do it either with the identical result.
So I'm at my wit's end. Has anyone in this sphere ever encountered this error? Were you able to overcome it? Can any other kind soul here suggest a way to circumvent this? I mean one that doesn't involve sledge hammers and concrete pads?
Thanks!
cheers,
john
My guess is problems like reported could be related to Factory Reset Protection, which happens when the previous owner of a device didn't properly remove his/her Google account from phone prior to doing a factory reset.

If his wife did a factory reset when she first got it then that's not the case.
OP, did she?
jwoegerbauer, how is the reset password handled? If you originally sign in to the device with one password but then change your Google account password, does the device authorization automatically update too?
Or do you use the original password?
Any failsafe to prevent the device owner from getting permanently locked out?
That whole embedded subsystem gives me a headache.
Thanks to both of you for the feedback on this!

Ah, yeah, that definitely happened. By that I mean that the previous owner did not properly remove their account prior to my doing the factory reset.
Now the question is: Is there any way for me to recover from this situation? I have the latest factory ROM for this device (from three or four years ago). Can I just flash that over what's on there? Or have I tripped some kind of circuit breaker and I'm just hosed?

No, and we bought it on Swappa about six months after it came out, with an unlocked bootloader no less, so we just assumed that the seller did a reset before transferring it to us, but we don't know that definitively.

Yes, same questions now that blackhawk mentions them. (Since I didn't think to ask such good ones myself!)

[FIX] PSA: SIM CARD/Data & WIFI not working, because of which phone reboots or enters crash dump mode

PSA:
THIS IS NOT A SOFTWARE ISSUE.
So no need to wipe/ reset your phone or msm flash. NO NEED.
It is related to hardware.
There is a really easy fix for this and it might seem stupid but its worked for me a lot of other people according to my research.
So when you come across this, all you need to do is press your phone on the back side in various places (i dont know where exactly) and then sim card and wifi both should start working.
I dont know why or how this happens, but it just works. it worked for me, after 2 days of trying to resolve this issue with various software solutions, went as far are copying the persist partition from another oneplus 6 and flashing it on mine.
so yes this works
