Is there a simple way of creating application shortcuts to appear on your today screen without having to click on the windows start menu to find it?
I have searched the forum & found many similar questions but they all seem so complicated.
All I need to do is create a shortcut for an application that normally fires up when the phone is switched on but I need the ability to have quick access to the shortcut incase the app is ever accidently closed down.
This app should always be on as well as the data connection to which i also need a shortcut for.
So the COMM MANAGER icon as a shortcut for quick access would be needed to enable a quicker start to Data connection if offline for some reason
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks

Yes. Go to Start/Settings/Today/Items tab where you can select what you want. At least I can do it on Touch 3G (Jade).

Yes thanks but that's not what I mean, I have already tried but found that you have limited choice to what you can add. I need to add other items that are not included in th items tab.
Try this...
It's a simple shortcut creator for the today screen - sounds like just what you're after.
I use this and have had no problems with it.

Thanks for that, it does look like exactly what i need but for some reason it does not work on my O2 XDA Mantle and the Samsung Omnia, both using Windows mobile 6.1
I get the same problem on both phones where after instalation the app does not appear in start menu or in programme files.
I have selected "Easy today Launcher" in the items tab of the today screen but nothing appears to allow you to use the software
I'm on WM6.1 on a Sony Xperia and its fine.
Did you add any icons to it?
It doesn't appear in programme files or programmes - just in Today settings.
Go to Settings->Today->Items.
Make sure the box is ticked next to 'Easy Today Launcher'.
Select 'Easy Today Launcher' so thats its highlighted gry, then click options. Use add to add a new application to the bar, remove to remove ones you don't want, and up and down to chane the order. You can also select whether you want large or small items in the options screen.

Doh!!
That's it thanks
It now works
I found another app called SBSH iLauncher but it's not free
it allows shorcuts to documents which is something else I need, it doesn't look line Easy today Launcher can do this as it only creates shortcuts to applications.
thanks for your time.
Hey people, i have been looking under tree and rock to finde some sort of way to organize Apps in to folders, in the main menu. With no luck so far.
I am i just blind and stupid or have Android made the same mistake as apple did with no way of organizing applications (albiet, appels problem is a bit bigger than Android's).
Anything to help me keep my Main Menu Organized ??

"main menu" being application launcher drawer/cube? Or home screen?
Stock application launcher drawer/cube doesn't have the option, and I fail to see why anyone would need such an option, given that -
1) Home screen supports folders.
2) There are plenty of apps that allow grouping applications in "folders" of some kind (virtual ones) on the home screen.
Your "main menu" is the home screen(s), not the application drawer.
How about 'Apps Organizer' from the market.
- You can set up categories
- Apps can be in multiple categories
- Assign custom or predefined icons to these
- Both widget and shortcut support to put these categories on your home screens
- Fave apps so they stick to the top in the folders
- Optionally have all folders/categories as subfolder from 1 main folder. Now that cleans up everything into a single icon.
It's a lifesaver if you use a ton of apps and want to stay organized imho.
nice apps organizer
for me it has been FolderOrganizer by Fabio Collini for quite some time...
After trying every app organizer I could find I settled on "tag home" to fix this problem. You can create tabs in the launcher, sort the apps by tab, prioritize the items in the tab sort them, have an app under multiple tabs, (easier than remembering if gmail is in internet or communication) and you can shortcut the tags onto the desktop as folders. plus, it's free in the market.
Just my 2 cents, and that's about all my advice is worth....

I am also looking for an efficent solution! But i think we have to wait until apple releases its OS4.0, which will be able to organize apps.
Then suddenly there will be apps developed for android who do the same thing. Its sad, that it has to be this way...

Why would you think that? There was Advanced Launcher for 1.6 that did this, and many home alternatives that do this. It's harder for rosie because it is closed source.
PS. You can make a folder on the home screen for a long time and dump applications into it, just like the magical iPhone can't do yet.

Advanced Launcher doesnt work at all.
Does Rosie mean Sense? (Sorry i just got my first android device)
I didnt find a decend Homescreen replacement that has this feature. Only Tag Home Launcher, but this app slows my phone down (very noticeable!).
The Replacements, which worked fine (for example ADW Launcher or Launcher Pro), didnt have the ability to sort apps in the draer/starmenu...
If you could point me to an working replacement I would be happy!!!
But, coming from windows mobile my experience is: nothing new is developed until apple does it and then sudenly the market is flooded with apps, that do this. ( I was looking for more finger usability since Windows Mobile 2003SE ^^). Of course there are few exceptions...
But please proove me wrong!
About the ability to create folders on the homescreen: I know this ability exists! But in my opinion one big advantage of android is the widgets on the homescreen. I like my homescreen to show me the time, my appointments, the weather...
For launching purpose i would like a simple menu with all my apps (categorizeed, sorted the way i want it )
the way I see it: the iphone has no homescreen it only has a launcher. But soon this launcher will get better than the one from android (now they are equally bad^^) and that is when i think apps will be released to overcome this differnce. But it should be the other way around...
But again: please proove me wrong!

So until I find the perfect solution I'm using the folders created for the on-screen but I'd like to be able to rename the folders. As an Android n00b is that possible?

To change the folder name:
-Open the folder.
-Touch and hold the bar at the top of the folder.
This should give you the "Rename folder" dialog box.
Good luck.

Find a clock that you like, download the cab file, copy it to your phone and then run it. It's that easy
Be sure you have a clock that is right for your system.
A lot (oh and I mean A LOT) of the clocks on XDA are intended for use with Co0kie's Home Tab (CHT) . These clocks are unlikely to be compatible with your stock Sense.
Having said that, there are plenty of stock clocks out there. Just be sure to check the details in the thread that you downloaded the cab from.
Either way, if you have the right cab for your system, then JCM is right, the process is really very simple. Save the cab somewhere on your device and click on it

This clock is intended for use with Co0kie's Home Tab (CHT) . Do you have this installed?
Yes
- Make sure you have selected a layout that includes an analogue clock.
- You can do this from the home tab, by going 'Menu > Edit home layout > Level 1 - Main Home'
- Then either press and hold on the clock until a sub menu pops up. Scroll through the layouts until you find one you like (which includes an analogue clock) ...
- OR ... select 'Advanced' and use the drop down list to select a clock layout option.
No
- Uninstall the clock
- Install CHT
- Install CHTEditor
- Reinstall the clock cab.
- Follow the instructions above.
thanks for this..
not your fault but my fone is soo screwed...i really need help to sort it out..
the clock doesnt work, my fone has a white background, my grid is now back to three, i can see the calender on the home page when before it was hidden...
all i did was install cht and cht editor..
i need to start again any ideas what I should do?
Ideally I would like to reset the fone back to factory settings, then obtain a list of things I should install i.e. swype, ge alarm, skyfire, torch, my player, core player, reset on home page, a tag watch, some great wallpaper or animated theme,
where do i begin..well i have just performed a restore to factory settings reset and am gonna start all over..
thanks for your help

Just finished my latest app T9 Launcher, and it shaped up real well so I thought I'd share
Launch apps and contacts with predictive T9 dialing, much faster than your regular launcher and appdrawer.
It also learns your usage patterns thus giving you better results over time.

Did anyone try it yet? Im curious to know if the learning curve is steep, or if you get the dialing right away!

Does this launcher support cyrillic app names?
Here's what I posted in the Play Store reviews for this launcher:
An option to disable the widget screen and activate the dialer by swiping to it instead of pressing home would be nice (Option to "Home" with "Dialer").
Click to collapse
Maybe even an FAB to launch the dialer would be nice.
Just something that lets me launch it without a home button press.
I went from Smart Launcher to Z Launcher and then Z Launcher to this.
Great work so far.
Orientation changing is important, too. I hope you implement that soon.
It would be much better to make it not a classic launcher, but a standalone start menu, or even a homescreen widget. Will it be possible? I do not want to lose Google Now on the leftmost page.
PS. Why only three columns on apps screen? Are the grids adjustable?

Thanks! I was thinking of a FAB, but wouldnt that just take up screen space? The home button is a nicer solution in my opinion In the next update I implemented gestures aswell (For swiping the dialpad up), you should try it out.
Im going to look into orientation switching!

On my phone, even I fill the screen with widgets, it seems like there is enough space for a FAB.
But gesture support seems like a better solution.

I finally got the update and tested it. It seems if I try to swipe up on that blank space under my widgets, it does not launch the dialer. I can, however, launch the dialer if I swipe in the widget area (as long as there isn't a scrollable widget there).
Well. I do like this launcher. It has rooms for improvement.
What I like.
1. Its fast.
2. The kind of launcher that I want.
3. Its beautiful. <-- This is important.
4. The app section and contact section. Really nice.
What I don't like
1. There's no setting to hide certain apps. <This does not mean Porn. It means Paypal and other banking apps.
2. I don't like pressing home button activate the dialer. I prefer to press home button just to go to home so I can see my widget. And no toggling either between Home and dialer. I prefer to use swipe up to call the dialer part. While I don't like this now, I may learn to like this.
4. Too little room for widgets, or home screen.
5. No shorcut dialling?
Suggestion:
1. Take a look at MiHome Launcher from Xiaomi, its my current launcher. Its a standard launcher with built in T9 app dialer. Swipe up from any screen to bring the dialler. No contact dialer like yours though. Seems like it was taken down from Play Store recently though. I use it because I like the launcher. Swipe up with two finger brings up the access to hidden apps (with password to access them as well).
2. If you want to keep 1 home screen, maybe make it scrollable? I have Gmail, calendar, Keep, and prayer time widget. I certainly would not like to go to those app just to see some current information.
3. Maybe the option of increasing the home screen?
4. The Home button situation. This is one of the core in your app. So, you got to polish the usage of this. I can also say, the user should learn to adapt to this new operation.
5. Maybe you can add dialing shortcut?
I guess lack of room for widget is weighting on me to use this launcher by default. If you look at my attachment, the wifi shorcut is something I use lots of times. I have four home screen, 1 for Keep, 1 for Gmail, 1 for calendar and prayer time and the main one, that includes my wife contact widget, and wifi shorcut.

Ah I see.. Does your device have physical buttons, not a nav bar?
I just found an error that adds padding to the bottom of the views (dialer, widgetscreen) to compensate for a navbar that doesnt exist. Ill try to fix that.

Thanks for the feedback, Ill try to adress your points in the coming version(s).
Hidden apps: On the todo list but not currently a priority. Two finger swipe up to show sounds like a good idea.
I have speed dialing a bit higher on the list (Long pressing a dialbutton for a chosen app/contact)
And I am thinking of ways to add more widget space.. Scrolling might be a solution to this. I am also thinking about vertical paging. I do not however want to add more screens to the left or right, I think that will clutter the experience. What do you think?
Home button situation: I think that the home button to open the dialpad ads to the speed of the launcher. The back button does what you describe. I know that its not like other launchers but I dont want it to be just another launcher
And I added a Home-toggle-preference to the Settings menu on another users request, your welcome to try it out.
I try to represent two end states with the buttons, so that a stressed user can button mash to get to what they want;
Home: End state is dialpad, Search
Back: End state is widgets, Start
And really, I appreciate your feedback. I hope you will stick around for a few versions to come I have set of the weekend to adress bugs and users concerns.

I vote for vertical pages. That is something new. I agree adding them horizontally is not a good idea. Scrolling down and up isn't intuitive for me. Bonus if you can make the vertical page a loop, like some Samsung phone, I really like the loop mechanism.
I don't have any concern other than widget space. And the learning part is really cool.

It's Serbian cyrillics, the Russian T9 layout is slightly different.
1 .,;:!? (no letters)
2 АБВГ
3 ДЕЁЖЗ
4 ИЙКЛ
5 МНОП
6 РСТУ
7 ФХЦЧ
8 ШЩЪЫ
9 ЬЭЮЯ
PS, you can find all T9 layouts in TouchPal.
---------- Post added at 02:47 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:35 PM ----------
PPS, the launcher must support at least two layouts simultaneously, e. g. English and Russian, the second layout must be selectable in options.
My suggestions:
- Allow hide apps in drawer
- Ability to add shortcuts to desktop.
- When contact has no avatar set, Android uses placeholder - white letter on color background for it. When adding such avatarless contacts to Google Now Launcher or Nova they use this placeholder, maybe you can also make contacts page to use it?
- Lock desktop option, so widgets can't be moved/deleted
- I would also like to suggest redesigning of window that appears when longpress on app... It looks too cluttered and not material at all. More like something from early ICS era
+1 for vertical scrolling of center screen!
So far it's very unique I'm curious what direction it will take.
Here is some features you can add to make your launcher even better :good:
-Disable swipe down from anywhere to toggle notification bar.(toggle only if i swype down the not bar)
-Show contacts only from gmail or phone. Now there are contacts from G+
-Home button goes to HOMe and not in the dialer.
-My phone is in usa language and the number are in 123-456-7890 format. So dialpad dont find them.
EDIT: I cant find my stock dialer app in the app tab!
EDIT2: I added a widget clock( i have samsung with stock kitkat rom) and i cant delete it.When i press it, the screen for widget and wallpaper appears.

Oh, yeah. I have my nav bar disabled. When I enable it, the launcher looks fine.
I found a bug that will probably confuse a lot of users.
If you go to the Applications tab and press the home button, the dialer pops up. Press home again and it'll switch to the Home tab, but with the dialer still open (and the same application list as the Applications tab has). Pressing home a third time hides the dialer finally ("Home button toggles dialpad" is on).
There is no difference between the Home tab and Applications tab when the dialer is open.
Swiping up and down gets awkward, too, because it also scrolls widgets and the application drawer.
I think, if you still want to use home button to launch the dialer, it should switch to the Applications tab and then launch the dialer. Also, having the dialer open automatically when swiping to the Applications tab would be nice. As well as removing and reorganizing tabs (I want to remove the Home tab, since I don't use widgets).
Here's a video of the home button action bug.
http://1drv.ms/14J1FAa
Also, it seems that the scroll up and ripple animation lags when the dialer is called up on the Home tab, but not when it's called up in the Applications tab (Probably because it doesn't need to scroll up before rippling there). Just one more reason to switch the Home button behavior to launch the dialer in the Applications tab instead of the Home tab.
Sorry if this post seems like it's all over the place, I'm just exited about this launcher. It's so close to becoming perfect.
Hi - I'm running KangVip B111 ROM on a GEM-703L rooted and TWRP as recovery.
Would like to know if there is a native or external way to add/remove tiles from the Shortcuts section (Status bar > right drop > Shortcuts) as I do not require that many. I have alternatives with the ROM itself (gestures) that replace these tiles. For example: open Flashlight by holding home button on any screen.
I've looked everywhere in settings and couldn't find a thing. Also looked for related posts here on XDA, but nothing so thought asking the experts directly might help in my research.
Your assistance is very much appreciated.

Try going into /cust and into dualcu/cn/xml and find the default_order.xml file and remove the items you don't want from there then reboot. Let me know if they are gone from the shortcuts section. if not, edit the default_order.zml file in all cust folders wherever you see it, then reboot.

It wasn't. I initially noticed that the only bottom row icon was a little chopped from the bottom by the brightness control bar (when i had all the tiles), so my guess is that the edit button was totally covered by the bar and when i removed the unnecessary shortcuts it made it visible as this button is between the tiles and the brightness adjustment bar.
