Cannot update MIUI on Redmi S2, "current version is illegal" - Xiaomi Redmi S2 Questions & Answers

I recently bought a second-hand Redmi S2 phone. It was all I got. But the MIUI version was 9.5.1.0, which was very old. That's why I decided to upgrade my MIUI version.
When I tried to update with recovery ROM, it shows
Can't verify update
Current version is illegal, only allowed to flash the latest stable version

Click to collapse
When I tried in fastboot, it says
Critical Partition Flashing is not allowed

Click to collapse
When I tried to unlock the critical partition, it says error. Today, I got a new problem. XiaoMiTool V2 shows my bootloader is locked, but my phone says unlocked on Miui unlock status in developer mode.
I don't know what to do. Some experts, please suggest me.

Firmware type, 3rd party seller

Hi guys, I just got my Mi4c and I was wondering what mods can I do with it (install sMIUI). I am pretty scared about all this bootloader locking thing, and I am very unceirtan about firmware that came with the device. It was purchased in Hong Kong, and details are as follows:
Android version: 5.1.1 LMY47V
MIUI version: MIUI 7.0.4.0(LXKCNCI) Stable
Is it safe to flash, or will it lock BL?
Many thanks in advance

sMiui will not lock your bootloader, it's safe...
Just flash TWRP and you're ready..

Do you know if this is already custom firmware or official one. I don't see too many of chinese apps on it, just the Mi & MIUI ones...

Strange.
I've checked: I have locked bootloader and no custom recovery, but I have root.
What are my next steps for flashing?

Read this discussion and follow the steps http://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-4c/general/mi4c-flash-twrps-recovery-cms-row-t3307801
When you have TWRP up and running you can flash whatever you want...
But it's very strange that you have a locked bl with an old China stable ROM...

Allright, just to clarify: bootloader wasn't locked after all. I managed to flash TWRP and gain root again after brick. Fastboot stable 7.1.6.0 ROM flashed via MiFlash, than run a .bat script for TWRP and flashed SuperSU.zip.

Question about Fastboot + Miflash + Unlocked Bootloader using unofficial method!

Hello everyone!
I bought a mi 4c from gearbest which came with a custom\unofficial possibly full bloatware rom, because of this i decided to install the last version of miui for mi 4c from xiaomi.eu! To do this i had to unlock my bootloader, yes my bootloader was looked because before i thought about xiaomi.eu rom, i had installed the lastest stable chinese rom by using the rom updater which i think that it looked the bootloader when i did this. I don't know if the bootloader was looked or not while i had that custom rom on the phone because i did not check it.
So my bootloader was looked and i wanted to install TWR to install the xiaomi.eu rom because of the international support and because of google services and play store which i had tried to install in the chinese stable rom but i had failed miserably to do so! So i want to install TWR but i did not want to wait for the sms with the code to unlock my phone because i had read people complaining that the code takes a long time to arrive and etc! So to solve my problem i used this unofficial way to unlock my bootloader -> http://en.miui.com/thread-247961-1-1.html <- which worked and i got my bootloader unlock, installed TWR and the lasted xiaomi.eu rom for mi 4c
/\ I regret using the unofficial method to unlock my phone, because two days later o got the sms with the code Haste is the enemy of perfection!
But now i want to go back to stable chinese rom because my phone is overheating and throttling a lot and also the GPS works really bad which it did not on the chinese rom!
Now for the doubts:
1 - If i use Fastboot + Miflash to flash the last stable chinese rom, is there the risk of bricking my phone? Because of the way i had unlocked my bootloader i mean?
2 - Is there way to lock the bootloader again, so i can unlock it the right way? I mean using mi unlock and the code that i've received? It will make any difference using the official way in relation to the unofficial way, it will be worth it i mean?
1. only risk is you have a power blackout
2. you can, fastboot oem lock
Hi! Please I really need your experience
I will receive my new Mi 4c with the Bootloader Unlocked from the re seller , Rooted and with Multi language ROM.
Do I have to unlock the bootloader with the official method (which means flashing Cina Dev ROM -to re lock the bootloader- and go on with the Xiaomi's code procedure..) or it is possible to get all things done as soon I get my device by choosing an unofficial weekly miui.eu international ROM and install it normally from the Updater app but also be able to update it every week via Updater without issues?
My problem with flashing is that I don't have my laptop and the one I have now runs win xp.

1. i suppose no, it will only brick if you have TWRP recovery flashed to recovery partition. My workaround is to never flash TWRP in the first place, but boot to TWRP from Fastboot every time i want to flash something. definitely a hassle but should be guaranteed to work. Never tried though, i am fine with CM ROM and unlocked bootloader.
2. If i read correctly, the latest dev ROM will lock the bootloader back. So if you want to unlock, you must flash the old MIUI version as suggested in the unofficial unlock method again.

you can unlock via unofficial method. Win XP should be able to flash it. CMIIW though
Thanks but it's not necessary anymore ..I've changed the Mi4c with Mi4.

Error Message: "The system has been destroyed"

So what happened was I ran into some issues with notifications not being pushed onto the phone. I thought it was a MIUI version problem, because previously I didn't have any problems with notifications, and it was only until after the latest MIUI 10.2.2.0 update that I ran into them. And so I decided to download the official MIUI v10.2.1.0 ROM from xiaomi's official website and tried to downgrade. Big mistake.
Now my phone is perpetually being stuck with the error message "The system has been destroyed". I really don't know what to do and I'm hoping someone here is able to help me with it. My Mix 3 is running MIUI v10.2.2.0 prior to the downgrade, and has the China ROM. Bootloader is locked too. Is there anything that I can do to kick the phone out of this status? If you need more information, I will gladly provide them. Will greatly appreciate any help that comes by. Thanks.
Checking your phone if it can get into bootloader.
If it can, just open the unlock application and unlock again.
And then you can use miflash to flash 10.2.1.0 on your device.
Hope I can help you

How do I know if the phone can get into bootloader? Sorry I'm pretty new to this bootloader thing. Honestly, this Mix 3 was my first ever Xiaomi device so I'm a bit unfamiliar with how it works.
If you meant holding down the Volume Down and Power button to access Fastboot mode, then yes, that's the only thing I have access to currently. Otherwise, no...

It should be possible to use fastboot to install a working official firmware. Was your device originally a Chinese ROM or Global ROM device?

It was originally Chinese ROM. So I guess flashing a Global ROM wouldn't work? Especially since the bootloader is locked.

Mi Mix 2S Hard Bricked - No auth

Hi. My friend has a Mi Mix 2S and he bought it as a Global Unlocked Version... Like always, it turned out to be a china specific device and he accidentally flashed global rom with miflash and it was set to "Clean and Lock"... Now the device keeps boot looping into recovery and says "This Miui version cannot be installed in this device"... I tried via test point but my account is not authorized. Is there any other unofficial way to recover my device without paying anymore to s-unlock or any other shady services? Regards, InfernoWolf19.

have you tried boot to bootloader and reflash China rom ? I think the miui package ended with tgz can be unzipped and run flash_all script from fastboot

Not able to lock my bootloader again in my Redmi Note 7 Pro

I sucessfully installed Orange Fox Recovery in my Redmi Note 7 Pro (violet). But then after that I wanted to go back to the stock rom so I flashed it with Mi Flash. The Rom which I flashed was Global Stable Fastboot Rom (Version 11.0.8.0) but after flashing an error appeared that the system has been destroyed. Then I tried to unlock my bootloader, that took place successfully and my phone booted but the bootloader was still unlocked, I want to lock my bootloader. But whenever I do this the System Gets Destroyed.
You probably have the Chinese version and are flashing the Indian rom. Try to flash the Chinese rom and lock the bootloader and see if it works.

Let's see.. no info yet
I am also having the same issue. I have tried multiple methods. I flashed Chinese rom, and then tried relocking the bootloader. It did not work.
I also tried flashing MIUI 10, and after flashing the fastboot rom of MIUI, I tried relocking bootloader. It did not work as well.
I want to relock my bootloader.
After unlocking bootloader I am facing just one issue, that is, my internet goes off (volte signal + internet) while receiving an incoming call. While it does not goes off and internet works fine when making outgoing calls. Are you also facing this issue? I am using Airtel.
Also, can someone please help us out?
I have did same it will work for me with unlocked bootloader and got a little issue with accessibility player in youtube
Not a big deal ?
