[GUIDE] Systematic Guide BEFORE complaining on a Development Thread!

Hello fellow XDA Users AND Guests! I'm back with another IMPORTANT tip people have to do but don't do whenever they download and flash a custom ROM.
A custom ROM gets corrupted very easily when using a resume function on your browser, or when there is a network interruption during the download. Many devs have to deal with unexplainable errors on the ROM that they may not even know how to solve, because most of these issues are BECAUSE OF THE USER. (Not to sound mean, but if it works on the dev's device, it is MOST LIKELY to work on yours as well).
Full version of the guide is more detailed, but the compressed one works fine too.
COMPRESSED INSTRUCTIONS
1. Did you check your device model against the device model listed on the thread?
You CAN install N9005 ROMs on other variants, for example the N900T, N900W8,
provided you get a patch specific to your device, however if they have their specific
thread, N9005 ROMs DO NOT ALL SUPPORT IT.

2. Did you check the MD5 Checksum of the file after you downloaded?
Open this spoiler for Mac Instructions!
1. Open Applications -> Utilities -> Terminal (or open Spotlight, and search for Terminal)
2. When Terminal is open, locate your directory where the file is downloaded, usually run this command: cd Downloads
3. When the path changes to the Downloads folder, type in "md5 XXXXXXXXXXXXX.zip" (name of the downloaded zip)

5. On the thread of the ROM, there should be located an MD5 code, press Command F, and paste it in the box. If the MD5 is found, then congratulations, MD5 checksum complete!

Seems weird for me to bump this up myself, but I still see many people suffering from their own abuse. Would love for it to be stickied, let's hope
Oh, this is a really nice resource! Thanks. I hope other people see it before rushing over to dev threads without any idea of what's going on.
If anyone has anything to add to this, PM me. I think this is fine for now when linking it to people when they ask a question.

Hello, you seem like a mature and helpful person to ask this, I have a 4.4.2 sm-n900w8 (3.4 kernal?) with MDF security software version. I do not know how to use these forums very well so I apoligize if I am asking a redundent question. I have tried rooting a device (SGS3) before; for things like sixaxis, and I now see I'll need it for transfering files to and from the ExtSD (with 4.4.2 on the SGN3). my main question is are there any STILL confirmed ways of rooting the sm-n900w8 as of todays date?? I have done this before with a (SGS3), the videos were fairly strait forward, and this was before I knew about KNOX; in doing so I ended up with a soft bricked device, though I THINK I managed to fix it. If I manage to root it will it void my warranty?
I am concerened about
1) being able to safely root my device without tripping knox or using a method with an older version of software/security.
2) I am NOT getting into Flashing ROMs yet, I just want to transfer files between the two MicroSD cards or use TouchWIZ with apps like SIXAXIS (if that makes sense? )
Thanks for your time and effort into building this community.

What's your build number for your phone?
List out everything you see when you type *#1234# in your phone dialer.
I am also 0x0 for Knox, at least I believe so. I have not done anything to it yet.

You should be on the latest bootloader right now.
Try any CF-Root and check the Canadian thread, you're on the right track
You won't trip KNOX on this firmware.
Do you have a link to the N9005 -> N900T patch? I want to flash X Note on my TMo GN3.

Is there any superuser app in the app drawer?
If yes then it is rooted dont worry u can confirm it with the lucky patcher and titanium backup

Yes, there is and I reflashed the zip file again and its resolved and root checker is happy with it
So r u happy with this easy and proper root?
Also comment about the easiest IMEI backup method
if any one want to increase App storage which is almost 700 MB see first post
Use it only on Official KitKat and 2nd Custom ROM. Not with 1st custom ROM or with Official Leak on 1st Post.

Disable soft keys

Any way to disable soft keys without rooting? Immersive Mode doesn't work because it disables the keyboard.

So,
Here is the way,
Note-Do it at your own risk!! I'll not be responsible for anything!!
It is not actually rooting your device...:silly:
I'll just tell you the method...
Rest you have to figure it out how to do it because I'm not an owner of Honor 8!!! , Currently my device is Lenovo A6000 Plus
Requirements:
1. PC
2. ADB Files
3. Custom Recovery ( I recommend - TWRP above 3.0 because I've done it same way on my device)
4. Unlocked Bootloader / Fastboot (You should have it)
5. One working Data Cable
6. Minimum Knowledge of editing Build Prop
7. The flashable zip in the attachment below...
8. You with your Phone!!!....
Now Let's Start... (But 1st Try to understand carefully)
1. Download the Flashable zip & put it in your PC
2. Boot your phone into Fastboot/Bootloader ( In whatever process you want - i) Manually or ii) adb reboot bootloader)
3. Now try this cmd - fastboot boot (name of the recovery).img [But before this step you must put your recovery into the adb folder]
After this wait for few seconds... you must be booted into your recovery...
4. Go to Advance > File Manager > Navigate to system > Select build.prop > copy it to where ever storage you want (I prefer internal)
5. Hope you have mtp enable in the recovery mod, if not then reboot the phone into the normal mode then send the extracted file to your pc ( You can also use es file manager/explorer but I will tell the pc method because it is more perfect)
6. Open the build.prop with notepad ++ and try this method which is given by The Hard Gamer in his "[ROM][32bit][port]OCTOS 6.0.1 for lenovo a6000/+" post
EVERYTHINGS WORKING FINE
TO DISABLE NAVBAR EDIT YOUR BUILD.PROP......
-First obviously you need be a Root user
-Backup your build.prop to your PC or anywhere (but backup it!)
-Edit build.prop with a Root Explorer using this line:
qemu.hw.mainkeys=1
you have to add this at the END of the .prop, save and reboot.
[FOR Marshmallow/Android 6.0]
If you're on Marshmallow (Android 6.0) the process is exactly the same, add the line at the end of the build.prop EXCEPT that you must leave 2 spaces after you added the line.
7. Put replace the build.prop file with the new edited build.prop in the flashable zip.... and put it into your root directory of internal/external storage.
8. Now repeat step 2-3.
9. Mount System, if it is already mounted then unmount it then remount it.
10. Go to install > navigate to the flashable zip > Then flash it.
11. Reboot system & Enjoy (If you Can)
Another Note :-I was here to participate in Honor 8 wining contest so, I can not exactly tell you the right process because you know (I don't own one of the amazing device)... So, If this method works then please hit like :good: & reply me with your experience... Atleast I can deserve this much..
& One important thing...

Thanks. I was also looking for solution of this issue and your solution helped me a lot
I was looking for a method which does not involve custom recovery and unlocked bootloader, should've probably mentioned that. If I go the TWRP way then may as well root it, but then I'd lose OTA.
Don't feel comfortable doing that just yet.

I can understand what you want to say!!
But listen,
You can do the whole process without boot the phone in normal mode...
Just unlock the bootloader before the process and relock it after it...
It's that simple..
And It will automatically do a factory reset after unlocking..
My Previous phone was MMX CAnvas A1
I have done many experiments on it like these...
But At the end I still got the OTA updates... Even my SuperSu (By systemless flashable zip) is installed
And you must take some risk in your life to get better results!!
Hope you understand!!!
And press thank button if it helped!!

4. Seach for com.whatsapp_preferences.xml file in the folder.
5. Click the file and copy it into you phone directory so u can edit the file using computer.
6. Enable MTP or boot into system and connect device to computer.
7. Open the xml file as text file and add following line anywhere in between <map> and </map>.
Code:
<boolean name="dark_mode" value="true" />
You can also use xml editor from phone to edit xml file.

9. from file manager in twrp replace the modified file with old file.
10. Reboot into system and open WhatsApp. Goto settings->theme or theme option might be in Chats ,select dark. Restart WhatsApp

Root method:
If your device is rooted then use File manger with root support and edit the xml file from step 3 and goto step 10.
Method worked on my moto g5 plus running PE10.
Updating the app in playstore might remove the toggle option in settings but app will stay in dark mode even if u update.
Please leave a comment about ur device if it worked or not.

Amazing!! works for Pie as well!
Tried it with the File Explorer i have and my device is rooted so no need for Recovery, so i just modified the .xml and yeah i got the Dark Mode but if I exit and then reopen the app it defaults back to normal theme.
But the option remains in the settings.

It is better to delete the old file.
U can keep the both the files but make sure the modified file name is same as old [ It should not be like filename(1).xml]. rename the old file to something else.
I tired this working fine , but after after sometime the theme gets back to white , please get me a solution to this
Is dark mode on in system settings?

Question Z FLIP 4 - I NEED INFORMATION

Good morning everyone on the forum, yesterday I bought a Z Flip 4 and wanted to know if the following things can be done
- Install TWRP
- Install Magisk
- Root
My idea would be to be able to install those things without losing any files on my phone.
Model: SM-F721B
If someone could help me I would really appreciate it
- Install TWRP - No
- Install Magisk - Yes
- Root - Yes
Edit:
If you want to root it all data and files will be wiped, you'll have to do a backup first!

I understand, how long would the rooting process with magisk take? I would be interested in doing it, and do you know of any tutorial to follow to be able to root it?

It will take a good couple of hours to upload/download everything, then a couple more to set it all up and running again to your liking..
1) go into settings/about phone/software information
2) tap software information then tap on build number 7 times
3) go back to settings and you should see development options at the bottom
4) if the OEM unlock option is there choose it and it will reboot to the bootloader screen
5) it will ask you to confirm and then it will wipe all data and reboot (dont bother to re-install everything as you will have to do it again later on)
6) download the latest firmware and extract it to a new folder on your PC
7) copy the AP file to your phone
8) download and install the latest Magisk apk
9) in Magisk choose the top option 'install' then select patch a file
10) after patching the AP file transfer it back to your PC (it can be found in the download file on your phone)
11) download and install Odin app on your PC
12) open Odin and put the AP patched file in the AP slot and the CSC file in the CSC slot (disable auto reboot option in Odin before flashing)
13) after flashing press and hold the power button and volume down for about 10 seconds to reboot
14) install the Magisk apk again and it should ask you to reboot to finish off rooting the phone
15) Good luck !
