Micro USB caused short in Fire 10 HD 9th - General Questions and Answers

Fire HD 10 Tablet (64 GB) Without Lockscreen Ads (2019 Release)
Been using and loving Fire Toolbox since January 2020 or 2021.
I had an old micro-USB port wire connected to my computer. I still use it for a music player. I couldn't remember if it was my usb-c for my newer devices (wasn't wearing my glasses), so I tried to plug it into my Fire 10 HD to see if it fit.
I might have pushed a little bit, but not with any force. But my Kindle will not turn on. Tried various combinations of buttons I read about to restart, reboot, etc.
Can old micro-USB cord cause a short if pressed into a USB-c device? The answer must be yes.
What are my options? Thanks
Will someone send me a Darwin Award cap. I'm willing to wear it around my house for a few days.

Figure out what was damaged. Inspect C port for damage. Replace C port pcb if this is an option. May have damaged the mobo...

It seems like I should be seeing more posts from a few years ago where people damaged usb-c devices trying to plug them into micro-usb chargers. And it wan not a force thing; it was a soft but firm, is this the right charger press.
It also seems like this would have been accounted for when the usb-c was designed, making it so that the previous standard, if used by accident, would not damage anything.
I am not able to see any damage. Maybe a magnifying glass will help.
I'm not sure if there is a tech repair section on the forum here, or if it is mostly software and mods.
If I search for a cheap, used, replacement, 32GB with adds, for example, is there any way to swap out internal parts and make it 64GB no adds.
Is there anything salvageable inside?
Thanks

Use a bright led flashlight or sunlight and a magnifying aid of some type.
That's a mistake I never made. Inserting a micro usb upside down... yes, well. C ports are more robust as well.
The C port can be replace but it requires a skilled tech as that mobo mounted one can easily be damaged from inept desoldering attempts. Most Samsung phones use a separate C port daughter pcb so no need to solder to replace it.
A local tech shop might do it for $30-50, the part itself is like $2.35

HTC Desire microUSB Cable fragile...

In one week I have succeed to break my microUSB cable that came with the Desire, the USB-Brick is probably due to manipulation with those type of weak cables for sure it can't help. I'll get a new one (or two). I guess my pile of 20 miniUSB is useless now...
The Odd is that it can charge upside down
yeah very rare, ive never managed to break my cable and my cable has been through a lot including using it as a belt along with holding a pair of ladders down on the top of my car

Are you serious?
This isn't exactly Sonim.
Still, how exactly is the OP's cable damaged?
P.S. I'm also pissed that my collection over way over 100 miniUSB cables seem to be all too slowly becoming redundant. Before my HTC Desire, everything was Mini, not I'm forced to carry both types around. I'm considering making some neat little converters for my other devices.
Can confirm.
The cable that came with my Desire (more wire than cable) is crap.
It broke within the first week.
Nearly no strain at all, cable break at the USB plug.
you can use a mini to micro USB convertor instead of carrying both wires around

Yes i am serious, i have been using the original HTC cable that came with the phone and an additional two official HTC cable for desire just fine. I dont have any problems with them and yes i have used them as belts and cable ties.
The only way i can see you ever damaging one of these is if you damage the end or the cable you have might have been faulty from the start or near broke.
I just tried to bend the end of mine a few times and it still seems to be working, i did a few file transfer tests and it doesnt work any slower or faster.
out of all the desires or htc phones sold with a usb mini cable your the only person to report this?
The same thing happened to shadow and my cable broke during the first month as well.

mine does too
lol
you can fix a usb brick easily and ppl if ur plugging the phone in to the front of ur computer try a different port preferably at the back
I already broke several cables. Now one on of the pins of the Desire's micro-usb connector broke.. I for sure am a bit hard on my equipment but this never happened with micro-usb. I also think it easily breaks because the cable does not fully connect with the Desire's micro-usb connector. It sticks halfway in.
Anyway, I can no longer connect via usb and with all the dents and scratches it will probably be very hard to get repaired under warranty.
Mine works fine, but my mother's stopped working without visible damage.
Mine failed too, Its fussy about charging and very rarely works for USB. I think its the microusb<->cable connection that fails because its not moulded like most cables.
I've got a cable from a blackberry now (it was lying around, ive never had a BB) which works fine for charging and USB, the moulded connector seems better and the cable is much thicker.
I'd rather the cable or connector broke than the port on the phone (which is what microusb is designed for)
I was wondering if they can be fixed?!
YOU"RE RIGHT, they're flimsy.
These

Look sturdy but break too easily. Not as cheap as most chinese made but these cables usually break in about 2 months for me. Dont even think about folding it and putting it in a bag for those frail, dying HTC phones.
I wonder if the cables are easy to fix... its copper right?
-Can anyone recommend a simple way to handle these wires or a more durable wire? I dont want to buy one every month. I'm thinking about http://www.amazon.com/Micro-Retract..._19?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1328931599&sr=1-19.

I am thinking about it. It costs about the same to just buy the micro cable. This has 30 days. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mini-5-Pin-...262914?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item3f13828e82
my usb cable rubber is also starting to split at the ends. but it still works fine.
Never broke it but...
I never actually broke the cable, but I always found it very loose. When I insert the microUSB into my phone it doesn't click or anything. It just sorta lays there. It is not very stable and I am always terrified when messing around with something that requires a stable connection (alpharev, root, etc.)
Am I the only one experiencing this, or did I just get a lame cable?
USB conector
I've never had trouble with my htc cable, but I've replaced the usb port twice on one phone and once on the other. (yes I have two desire's)
I too wish it was a deeper port.

[Q] Replacing Micro USB Port for SCH-I535

I have a Verizon Samsung Galaxy S3 model SCH-I535 and I was having an issue with the charge port causing a desktop mode to pop up when plugged into my truck. This was effectively preventing the phone from charging because the screen would stay on. I read on a forum that perhaps the pin was bent down slightly closing a circuit that was only intended for certain after-market peripherals like a desktop dock. I noticed that it was in fact bent down, and I tried to gently bring it up, only to break the piece altogether. Now it won't charge or recognize any usb connections. I've begun externally charging batteries and swapping them in the morning and evening, but this is a real inconvenience, especially when I think it could just be replaced. I believe it's within my skills to solder the micro usb port, however I can't find a verifiable source for the part. I'm not under warranty, as I've already replaced the screen once. There's a part on this website called witrigs (unable to post url) that claims to be appropriate, but there isn't much information there. Can someone verify that this part would, in fact, work with my phone, or is there perhaps a better place to find parts?
From what I have read the gs3 needs a hot air gun to desolder the plug not exceptionally difficult but does require the right tools and there is several things close to the plug that you need to worry about.
I think I'm capable of the replacement, but is there anything specific to the micro usb for this device that would prevent a more generic part from being used?

Round The World with Pixel C

Hi,
I prepare a world tour for 1 year with departure this summer.
I have a tower PC and a Pixel C (just the tablet actually). So I can't take the PC with me for a problem of size
So I tell myself let's go with Pixel C ! And I'm here for wise advises.
Which accessorize are necessary for a suitable equipment for my trip ?
I think to the Keyboard google and a bluetooth mouse.
Do you think it's ok with this ? Wich accessories in more for you ?
Or don't take the Pixel C, it's very laborious ?
Thanks in advance for your advices and maybe on the road
This USBC hub/ethernet adapter should cover you for a lot of stuff. Use any mouse via the usb port, and definitely get the Google Keyboard. I use this setup for my onsite toolkit and only take my pixel c on vacation, no more laptop for me!
http://www.amazon.com/Anker-Ethernet-Including-ChromeBook-Aluminum/dp/B00XU6PM68
A year is a long time. The main issue you'll have with long term travel around the world is damage to your tablet, unexpected bad weather, and sustained access to reliable electricity with good power sockets. You must also be able to cope with the Pixel C getting totally messed up if you tweaked it.
Personally I like the magnetic keyboard, but the most protective would be the folio keyboard as it protects the rear also. I use a regular 10" size foam case I got years ago for a netbook for packing protection. A waterproof bag to handle the worst nature can throw at you. A small 16L type size will be enough. There are waterproof foam protective cases.
You need to be able to survive a bad ROM and a need to restore, so some kind of USB storage external to make the odd TWRP Recovery backup. Either a Type-C connector or another type and an adapter. The adapter is a good idea as it lets you use other chargers/cables.
To survive a bricked Pixel C you'll need a PC with fastboot and ADB. One trick is to make a bootable USB stick with Ubuntu and install the fastboot and adb software. You can then borrow a laptop and boot it off the stick and then fix your Pixel C, without having to install anything on the borrowed laptop.
A moderately large USB battery. A compact one like 10000mah. Ones which charge faster like off 3A would be better.
A multiport USB charger, so you can make fast use of time near mains power. The Pixel C is my only full Type-C on USB3 device, and there aren't many type-C 3A output multiports. So imagine you're moving a lot and all your batteries going flat and you got like 30min-1hr near a mains socket, and its located at an awkward location.
Avoid chargers where the PSU is right off the plug, as they are a weight which simply falls out of an unreliable power socket, go for the type with a long cord and you put the local socket adaptor on so its light weight in the plug.
Below are not recommendations, they are illustrative examples.
Multiport power adapter https://www.anker.com/products/A2053111
USB battery https://www.anker.com/products/A1371011
Case, this one is too big so look around http://www.amazon.com/Lacdo-Waterpr...r_1_20?srs=10611327011&ie=UTF8&qid=1461473826
Thank you for your answers.
The bag is a good idea for Pixel's protection. I think before at a freezer bag for humidity but at 12 € the bag, it's better I go look if they have at the perfect size.
For the Kyeboard, the magnetic keyboard will be protect in the waterproof bag so he has my preference and the folio keyboard isn't available in France
Fot the hub, with information and search I have an hesitation about two Anker that proposed by "jptechnical" : (sorry not possible to put links because new user)
- Anker : Three USB 3.0 ports and one USB-C recharging port
- Anker : Two USB 3.0 ports, One Ethernet and one USB-C recharging port
I don't know if i have more interest for the third Usb 3 or the Ethernet Why not a hub with 3 usb + Ethernet who allow charge ?
I have three questions about these hub :
- Can I use it and charging the Pixel in the same time ?
- Can I charging Pixel + Smartphone with ?
- If I connect Pixel + smartphone + External Hard disk, can I transfer Photo from Smartphone to Hard disk ?
For The external battery I go take one, she seems very well but a few expensive so I continued my search.
For the wall Charger, I'm less seduce because for use it, you need a power outlet so I can directly connect the Pixel C and the external battery can help it seems to me.
I've been doing a fair bit of travel and I used to have a TF201. (Android Transformer Prime)
The main things I can tell you about my experience with that is.
1. Cover. Its always getting thrown around on desks and other surfaces.
2. Picture Uploads. Throughout all of my trips I made a point of regularly uploading all the pictures and videos I took on the trip to the cloud in case of loss or stolen camera/s.
That being said I would suggest like the previous person a good hub! Preferably one with the right ports for your camera cards. (Micro SD and SD?)
3. Power. Extra long power cables are great!! and battery pack for on the go charging for both your phone and tablet. If you have the right cords you can charge your phone off the tablet anyways which is always a bonus.
4. Connectivity. Both the pixel C and my last tablet were WiFi only. So I've found the best way to stay connected is buying a local sim-card and hot-spotting from the phone where WiFi isn't available. Which refers back to #3. Hot-Spotting chews power.
And the last thing I would suggest is a power board. Its come in handy for all my travels. I just buy 1x international adapter and have all my local power units plugged into the one board! Makes it much easier IMO.
Other than that Enjoy your trip!
Thank you for all your answers, just to equip now

I would recommend a Chromecast, that way you could even connect your Pixel C to a friend's TV Screen or use mirracast in a hotel room to watch some stuff on the TV in your hotel room. All the Best

Blu Pure XL Replaceable Parts? (USB Port)

Hello everyone, I've been looking for 2 days now on Parts for the Blu Pure XL (Gionee Elife E8) and I've came up with nothing...
I have a damaged USB Port and I know this cause I've tried every charger in my home and I've cracked it open to take a look and the prongs that connect it to the board are bent. If anyone could give me a source that sells Blu Pure XL parts that would be incredibly helpful!
Please reply URGENTLY.......

Just my thought, but aren't microUSB ports just... microUSB ports? It's not like the ports on different devices differs physically from others. You can use any microUSB cable on any phone with a microUSB port, can't you?
As for replacement parts, I'm not an expert on electronics (perhaps you're more knowledgeable than me), but can't you just swap in any new female microUSB port (or maybe even a USB Type C port, if you have the knowledge and if it fits)?
I'm not sure how the microUSB port is hooked up since I don't have the guts to open up my own Pure XL, but can't you unsolder/cut off your old port and solder in a new one (provided you have the knowledge)?

MicroUSB ports are not just... MicroUSB ports, there are different types of pin variations (But all are 4 pins) to fit certain types of boards.
I never thought of actually replacing the USB Port. It might actually work, but I'm a little hesitant since I paid $350 for my phone.
Thank you for the reply back and I will try this. By the way, USB Type-C has 24 pins and a MicroUSB has 4; it's possible to use the USB-C, but Id only be able to charge my phone and it would take QC capability away from my phone. If anyone could direct me to the actual PCB Board with the USB and the Speakers for the Blu Pure XL that would be awesome! (Until then I guess this solution will have to do.)
Crude Solution, but works.
So what I did what get into my phone and remove the Non-Removable Battery, spliced an old microUSB cable and connected the Red & Black wires to the P+ & P- of the Lithium Ion Battery. Seems to charge the phone fast, bust remember to keep an eye on it and to not let it overheat... Here is a picture of the outcome: http://imgur.com/98Zolef

Having the same problem but for mine it seems like the metal connector on the outside protrudes whenever I plug a cable into the port... pretty loose by the looks of it.
Methinks I might see if BLU can fix it though.

They weren't able to fix it so they sent me a new Energy XL instead. Slightly inferior specs but battery is outstanding.
Also ported CM 12.1 rather easily to it. But yeah, you're either going to have to fix it yourself or get a replacement Energy XL (they might allow you to get a Pure XR as well, not sure.)
Not to dredge up a old thread; But I still need a charge board for my pure xl; I posted something months ago; and shelved the phone until recently; and I would love to find a source of parts for this.

Hate to bring up an old post but can anyone direct me to a "how to" on installing a new usb pcb? I've disassembled my phone and it seems the only solder point is the lower left hand portion.. I don't see any way of disconnecting otherwise. Ought I un-solder whatever it may be? or is there another method. Sorry btw.

then maybe you should hand this repair off to someone more experienced...

The issue is that the micro USB connector is getting worn down and the battery discharges in a few hours. Even new I used to have days on which my battery 3950mAH would be exhausted by the end of the day.
I want to do the following thing
Replace the micro USB port with a USB C port. physically my phone is a plastic fantastic and I plan to carve/shave out the few mm with a knife/scalpel and fill any voids with a combination of expoy putty and expoxy glue. My problem is how to do the internal wiring. I have done some soldering but nothing on a PCB. The most fine work I have done is patch speaker wires. Every repair person i have talked to says that it is absolutely impossible to do. I would appreciate it if someone could walk me through it.
Realme has now released phones with a 6000 mAH battery, So I propose to separate the back cover, carve any obstructions, create any posts needed with epoxy putty, and fix the battery with hot glue. Again the problem is the connections. I realize that the thickness of the phone will increase due to this and plan to fill the gap with epoxy and hot glue.
Yes, I realize that my phone is going to be a Frankenstein's monster. As long it works well I don't care.
I would appreciate it if someone could guide me

You know you can get a USB C chip for really cheap (compatible with the processor)? All youd have to do then is attach the ribbon cables, enlarge the port hole and test to see if power passes through with a cable. Make sure not to use too much glue, however, because when the phone heats up the glue may melt and run over the motherboard, resulting in a ruined phone.

There is actually a YouTuber that I conveniently forgot the name of... But he does DIY projects like this, like adding a headphone jack to iPhone 7s and stuff. Call if modding. But his parts come from Chinese marketplaces. I would suggest you research a USB C component chip. Not sure how old your phone is but they are basically universal depending on the OS supported hardware (like Android 9+ supporting QC3.0).
Thank you again for replying. I do not need quick charge. It came with 2A 10 W chip, and that's enough. Cannot I connect the USB C port to the input on my phone. Most USB C implementations are USB 2.0, SO that SHOULD be 4 pins and 5v at max 2 A.
Problem is that that the repair centers are assuring me that is not the case.
