Hi,
I've never owned a Xiaomi phone before, are they safe for installing and using UK banking apps and Google pay ?
Is there any pre installed software that should be removed prior to use ?
Thanks
It depends on the version of the phone, Global or Chinese?
Hi,
It will be global purchased in the UK from a major UK carrier.
Thanks
Everything will work, you can either disable or delete unnecessary apps.
Thanks.
The question was more around is the phone safe using banking apps, ie. Data and cash in account is not at risk ?

Why would the Xiaomi brand be less secure than One plus, Oppo, Etc...
For years with Xiaomi, stock, Aosp, Custom roms, never had a problem with hacks or others, security is also the user.
Ok thanks just wanted to make sure

I've been rooting phones since the days of the htc hero. Recently, I've noticed with Marshmallow and Nougat even more so, there is less reason to root other than small issues such as uninstalling unwanted system apps and installing apps such as titanium backup. However with rooting comes the issue of making it difficult to update the software when an official update comes through, other than going through a hurdle.
Do you guys think that now with Nougat, does the cons of rooting outweigh the pros of rooting?
I would like to root if only to theme the device (not a fan of Huawei's theme engine)
To be honest I don't think that's necessary

The biggest plus of root is the adblocker....
I only use root for titanium backup and for a adblocker. So yeah, that would be a reason for me. Also removing bloatware is nice.

Root all my device's: Adaway, Titanium, Kernel Auditor, Roms, Mods, Solid Explorer, Build Prop, etc....
And don't forget VIPER4Android.
I'm not sure to be able to live without on my new Mate 9.
Every device should be pre-rooted by default. Especially expensive devices like mate 9.

I have rooted most of my devices but I will keep this one stock for a while. I just do need to root but I get that some people do.
I used to root all my phones up until about a year ago. I miss Titanium Backup but these days many apps use cloud backup for settings and Google makes a good job of restoring apps quickly in the background.
The only other main reason I rooted was ad blocking. But then I discovered Adguard. I paid for a lifetime subscription (really cheap actually) and it works pretty much flawlessly.
With Nougat (and Marshmallow) the system and functions are so much more efficient and features are now built in that used to require root. And now it's just too much hassle, along with a risk of bricking, voiding warranty, not getting updates and causing problems with some apps (like banking or VOD) So rooting for little gain is something I just don't bother with now.

I agree with you. I haven't rooted my phone for the first time, and amazingly haven't felt the need to do so. The Mate 9 is a great phone.
All the problems I'm reading about on this site come from people who have rooted their phones, (a potential Pandora's box) and it's not a great advert for Huawei.

My internet banking apps and my subscription satellite streaming app will detect root and will not work as I found when I rooted my Mate 7 (so I got the Mate 9 and not rooting it)

You can't use a rooted phone on ANY banking App. Nor any App that guarantees secure transactions.
Infact, of you do not use fingerprint (or any other secure mode on the Mate 9 i.e. Password etc), it will refuse to permit secure app transactions and send you to the desktop sites on your browser.

My previous phone, a Galaxy Note 3, is rooted and I run all my banking apps on it. And it doesn't have a fingerprint sensor or anything but a pattern password and I've had no issues.
Would like to root my Mate 9 just to get TiBU working but it's not looking too promising, based on the many problem reports.
Hey everyone
I just heard about Huawei been a bit more relaxed about rooting their Mate 30 Pro.
At First I was like that is AWESOME, the idea of been able to use the Mate 30 Pro with pixel experience (my favourite custom Rom) sounds amazing.... best Pixel stock experience on a beast like Mate 30 would be epic.
Then I found a strange taste in my mouth. There would still be some draw backs. Thought I would list some concerns and people could answer some of those concerns.
(Note....each concern/question has a solution or comment I think about the issue.....this is just my view and not to be taken as the only view)
1. Lack of full potential from cameras on the back?
I know some custom ROM camera apps are pretty good l, but to really experience the best from the camera's you would have to have some access to l the Mate 30 Pro stock camera app package to allow.
A thought I had is that Huawei could make a APK that's a bit like Goodlock and this app would allow you to download the stock camera app and other stock apps that people may use on their Huawei devices.
2. LTE and 5G??
I can remember using my Samsung S7E with Pixel Experience but one of the draw backs was that I could get 4G but I didn't get the extra features like LTE, wifi calling, HD call quality ect. If this remained the case then this would be a major draw back to a 2019 flagship device.
Maybe Huawei could needed coding and solutions directly to custom Rom developers....or allow then to be a open source so every ROM devloper had access these features.
3. General Custom ROM glitches and bugs
We are all used to our ROMs having strange behaviours every now and ad gain but do we want these bugs on our £800+ smartphone that we use eveqersryday.
This solution seems obvious Huawei need to work closely with custom Rom developers and helping them Iron these issues out.
4. Some apps dont work on custom Roms no matter what.
Back to my S7e I was able to almost all of the apps on my phone thanks to magisk manager but some apps still had issues. My samsung gear app would pair with my gearfit 2 no matter what. It downloaded but it would not find any devices. I found a fix but that caused my Google to stop working, so had to put it back. This happened with other apps as well.
The only solution I can think of is app developers would have to made aware that mate 30 users could be using rooted devices with Huawei's blessing and ensure there apps work on rooted versions of the phone.
5. Is Warranty still safe.
If Huawei are actually cool with us rooting our P30 Pro then they need to put their money where their mouth is and allow this activity with their manufactures warranty, private insurance companies need to follow suit as well.
Huawei could give us manufactures warranty but with the condition that if possible we have to flash the stock firmware of the device before sending it out.
That's it....that's just s few of my thoughts and possible solutions and would love to hear what you guys think and if you have any worries or questions of your own? Maybe if we make enough noise Huawei will notice us and take our ideas and answer our questions themselves.
(Make it easier....put which number comment your answering to so we all have a better idea what's going on)
Keep it friendly guys remember these are mine and others thoughts.... none of us are implying that these thoughts are right.
By the way... I am a Note 9 user but I am really excited of the potential of Huawei been the ultimate custom ROM brand.
Official Pixel Experience is pretty much nill on Huawei Devices. I see the Honor 10 has
again been dropped.
When the Ban is lifted Huawei will lock the bootloader again no doubt.
they have changed their mind, they will not unlock the BL for the Mate 30.
the only place this device will sell well is China, they are screwed pretty much everywhere else.
I just bought one in shanghai yesterday. Its a very neat and fast phone. especially the 40w charging is cool. you can watch percentages go up...
I asked for the 5G version but i was told its not availbale and should come November. I was wondering though if its already built in and just needs a software patch... like back then when Nvidia was reducing performace on Graphic cards by disabling shaders by firmware...

I would say most likely it works, as the China version covers pretty much all the network.
You could find out the specs from their website and check if the LTE bands covers T-Mobiles. It works on Bell's network though.

I was trying to find a thread about the bootloader being unlocked on this phone and couldn't find one. I came across this video on YouTube where this guy turns on his phone and says his phone unlocked. He doesn't say how he did it but I'm thinking someone might want to contact him and ask him how he did it. About 2 minutes in he shows this

Most likely a review unit like others have had, release software dosnt have OEM unlock option in developers, if something comes of the int. Version we may be able to get rebranding but has yet to be seen
He commented about it being a devkit under the comment by Markus Haier here: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=5pxYxPSbl_s and said he was going to make a video on it but still nothing.
@o012 Well my P30-Pro (VOG-L09) has OEM unlocking under developer options but haven't tried unlocking.
All works in canada except certain banking apps google backup netflix google pay androis assistant needs to be rebooted everytime. Rest all works fine including google photo backup
Has anyone installed a custom ROM and TWRP to it yet.
Could a Gapps package help the issues? Gapps include all the google services and system setting to keep google stable and updating.
Think Gapps could be installed via the phones built in bootloader??.
I want to root, unlock bootloader, install custom kernels, custom roms, xposed, magisk, etc. I want to be able try out all the wonderful mods available on this forums.
I'm planning on buying the 12GB RAM + 256GB storage version of this phone directly from the oneplus.com website and use it with the Verizon Wireless carrier in the United States. Will I be able to do everything mentioned above with this version of the OnePlus 7 Pro? Will I be able to use it with Verizon in the US?
If not, what version of the phone should I buy and where can I buy it?
The reason why I ask is that there's many different versions of this phone (e.g. with 8 GB of ram, sold by T-mobile, etc.). I do not want to be limited in what I can MOD with this phone.
If anyone has this version of the phone and has done a lot of MOD's, please let me know.
Thank you.
The simple fact of the matter is unlike other OEMS, OnePlus's Oxygen OS is heads and shoulders above most most OS, both stock and custom. As for mods, splurging for the 12GGB wont really make too much of a difference as 8GB is already overkill. I myself cant think of too many mods because most are either baked in, or a matter of a module from Magisk. Look for the global/US Unlocked GM1917 model of the OP7P if you want to skip a few steps in starting your fiddling.
Is the OnePlus 7T a completely different phone when it comes to modding? Will I be able to use all the mods on this forum if I get the 7T? Will it cause me a lot of problems and hassles if I try to use all the ROM's, Kernels, guides, etc on this forum? Is this forum dedicated only to the NON T version? Is this forum solely for the OnePlus 7 Pro (not the 7T)?

Sorry but you are sounding like a kid on Halloween when you say ALL the mods this and ALL the mods that. First, use the device and see what you find lacking. That is the whole purpose of the modding community, providing options that are lacking. Also, saying "if I try to use all the ROM's, Kernels" gives the impression that you want to install all the roms and kernels at once
As for buying the T, if you have the money and dont mind spending, go ahead, but the differences between the op7p and the t variants are super negligible. And if you do, then this section is not for you, you would need to go the T threads for that.

Using both SIMS, the other with T-Mobile.
Using TWRP, Magisk, custom kernel ElementalX, edXposed, and Gravity Box. Google dialer framework installed to get call screening. Modded messenger for RCS. Google Pay and banking apps still work.
No issues
I bought the unlocked 12 gig and don't worry about clearing ram for a while 256 and love it!! ( I shouldn't have done the update to Q though and I lost root. Its a great phone with OOS. but play with it on pie is my recommendation.

Hi all. So I have just purchased this device through eBay from an Australian seller (I am in Australia). They advertised Chinese model KB2000 which will come flashed with global ROM Oxygen OS with Google Play etc. I knew what I was getting so this was good but I had already planned to flash Hydrogen with this XDA guide (https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...ogenos-google-apps-theme-ota-updates.4199011/) and get back the CP2077 goodies etc.
Phone arrived with Hydrogen installed but with Play store which has obviously saved me some ADB time and effort. I plan to run the remove bloat script above to get rid of the Chinese market and other apps I won't use.
I have been using the phone for 2 days and even though all Google services and apps etc are working no probs, I can't for the life of me work out why but Google Pay contactless payment will not work? I get try again error on vendor machines or insert card. Is this a common issue with the Chinese Hydrogen ROM or something to do with OnePlus user account. OnePlus pay is installed but I can't register as it asks for a phone number with +86 area code.
I have searched high and low for help with this and am hoping to resolve this issue as I use contactless pay quite a lot.
Cheers.

I had tried Google pay prior to removing any unwanted apps. Long story short I have flashed Oxygen OS with MSM tool and all Google services and apps work spot on for me now. Just no OTA updates which is not the end of the world as you can install updates from OP website with local file anyway.
