Hello,
I have a Galaxy A12 running Android 13, without root.
Unfortunately, my ex has deleted all of my text messages. I have tried to retrieve them using various methods, but have had no luck
Samsung Backup was not activated, so my messages were not stored.
I also checked the trash system, which is set to backup messages 30 days before deleting, but there was nothing there. It's possible that they were intentionally deleted from there too.
I have tried using software such as Disk Drill, Dr. Fone, and Mobi Saver, but none of these have been able to recover any of my messages.
Do you have any suggestions or ideas for how I can recover my deleted messages?
Thank you very much.
Sometimes recovery of such data is possible by specialized companies. You usually pay when the data is recovered.

Hey guys,
I've got a big problem.
I performed a sms-backup with the integrated backup-tool from GO SMS.
I chose XML as filetype.
Now, if I want to recover them, it stops at 290/786
~500 SMS are missing. It doesn't do anything. just stops.
need your help
fixed it.
there were some special chars (e.g. &xxx which go sms cannot handle.
deleting them solved the problem for me.
Hi, I'm having a sort of similar problem with Go SMS and restoring messages, I hope I'm posting in the right place.
Basically, I had a previous version of Go sms and I backed up all the sms and mms data that I needed to before updating the software on my phone (SE X10 Mini Pro) but when I looked in the Android Market I could only find Go SMS Pro so I installed that, but I can't retrieve the messages I backed up onto my SD card.
Is there any way I can do this, or recover the data some other way?
Ever since the ICS upgrade, one contact's message thread refuses to open and is stuck on "O Loading" with that little circle revolving.
I downloaded go sms pro before and I was able to access his thread through that and the message count wasn't over the maximum limit per contact. I've since gone back to the stock app as he's out of the country and it's faster than go sms pro but he recently txted me and caused the problem to occur with other contacts (though a reset of the phone solves their issue)
Does anyone have a solution and failing that, advice? I should say right now that deleting his message thread is the last resort.

You could try to backup your messages (you can find some apps for that in the market), then delete all your contacts, and afterwards restore them again~
Though no idea if it will work :/

Aye I could try it with a contact whose messages I don't mind losing and seeing if that works, thanks for the tip!
You can also use Google Voice, and have it copy all the messages to your Gmail account.

So I started backing up and restoring and I was able to open all contacts' threads. The backup never fully restores all messages though and I have to keep hitting "restore" so that it'll restore them all up to the present day. Don't know why it's doing it this way.
Just now I've checked and that one contact won't open again. What I might do is try and restore all to the present, delete loads of messages I don't want, and backup this new message history.
I know this is most likely far too late but I was having the same problems and found this thread while trying to sort it and hope it will help anyone else in future who has the same problems. I tried backing up and restoring (Using both the default and sms back-up and restore) deleting the thread and restoring, eventually I solved it by installing handscent, deleting the messages sent/received back to when the problem started in that thread and a few before, then went in settings, apps, then all, messages cleared the cache, restarted and it is sorted!!

Yeah it never resolved itself but I love the customisation of go sms pro so much that I don't mind anymore. Pity go sms pro crashes every so often and I think it slows the phone down.
I was going to start a new thread but see that this is the same problem I have.
I have a mt4gs (Doubleshot) and the problem described in this thread has happened twice. Both times i was receiving a text message and did something else with the phone at the same moment, and it seems to have jammed up the receipt of that text. The first time, i sent a text to the person at the same moment i received one. The second time, i locked the screen at the moment one arrived. Now that thread never loads, and loading other threads or contacts takes much longer than it should. In fact, i don't think contacts would ever load if i were willing to wait forever.
The first time I backed up the texts, reset the device, and restored, and everything worked fine, but that's a really time-consuming process and it seems like a ridiculous workaround for some broken buffer or queue in Android messaging.
It seems that there must be a direct fix for this. If it's easy enough to break messaging that it has happened to me twice, it must be a fairly common problem. But a search has turned up nothing but people saying there are too many messages or to use an alternative app for messaging. That's (1) incorrect and (2) again an ugly workaround for a problem with core functionality.
Well, wechat has always been a problem for me since I change ROM, device many times, sometimes even with a clean flash of the same ROM, or just a reset.
I always have a nandroid backup and a titanium backup, unless I am faced with a bootloop issue and lose system partition. ( I still recover my data partition)
I successfully restore the backup of Wechat, it copies everything and works(as long as I don't turn on my wifi.)
Problem starts after I turn on the wifi.
The great Wechat security feature will ask to verify the identity, which is good until you have a phone number attached to it. but bad if you have lost it, or you are out of coverage area. cause then you can't login, cause you also can't scan the QR code from the previously logged in device and have just one friend or 2 who can't verify it for you as well, even when it's the same device, running the same ROM.
So What changed? perhaps android ID.
So I tried to change the android id from my previous logged in backup. but sadly my nandroid had no database stored in the data/data/com.android.providers.setting folder
so I looked further and got the old android id from my data\com.whatsapp\shared_prefs\com.google.android.gms.measurement.prefs.xml file
I then changed my android id with the same old id, reset app data again for wechat, restored data. but still it doesn't recognize the device with the same ROM, same MAC id, same android id.
I then found that wechat also stores google aid(advertisement id) which also gets changed after a reset or flashing again.
sadly I still haven't found a way to modify it with my previous id, although I can see it in my wechat data backup folder in the file
\shared_prefs\com.tencent.mm_preferences_google_aid.xml
yes, you can easily reset it, but I need to modify it in order to test if this can let me bypass the identify security thing.
I don't know what else to suspect other than these 2 ids after a ROM reset.
Well you can change/modify the google aid as well
here
google.android.gms/shared_prefs adid_settings.xml
it still didn't worked for me. what else am I missing to make this work? No other app has such crazy security that locks it's own owner.
I really wished they had an email verification for identity verification as well. anyways, I am out of ideas now, if anyone can contribute to this post, it would be appreciated.
Don't know what happened, but the A13 update basically borked my phone. Dialer, messages, fingerprint reader, screen handling, notifications, Android Auto, etc ALL no longer work correctly. I never know how exactly the phone will behave on any given interaction. Its a mess. It was working perfectly fine on A12
So, I have to do some kind of a reset. I NEED my messages and call logs to be correct on restore (use it for lots of business stuff), everything else, whatever is backed up will be ok.
I tried doing a migration from the A13 6A to a factory reset Moto Edge 21 with A12 on it, and the A13 Pixel refuses to cooperate. Android migration usually works pretty well, but in this case, the 6A A13 refused to see the Moto A12, and gave me some super weird Android File Manager error message. I planned on using the Moto Edge as a data mule, reset the 6A, then migrate everything back.
So, I need to do a backup, reset and restore and am dubious of Google One actually working. Open to suggestions or actual experiences of how to do this with minimal disruption. Most of the internet "guides" on resetting are useless, and don't address how not to lose and/or destroy your data (text/messages, call logs, etc, incl MMS)
The only thing I can think of is using Wondershare Mobiletrans for backup and restore and cross my fingers that it'll actually work.
I use Swift Backup to backup and restore now. I would give that a try.
I use swift as well...but u have to have a backup app already in place BEFORE getting borked...lol There's limited options for going back to 12. As mentioned in the big PSA warning thread at the top...if u try to do a common rollback, google's ARB (anti-rollback) if triggered, WILL HARD=BRICK your phone! Then u have to send it back to google for a factory reset meaning ofc loss of all data. So plz use caution and no matter how u chose to proceed...Swift Backup is a gem! A one-time purchase ano NO monthly fees! Best regards...
Try updating again, I got two Android 13 updates on mine, the first one broke the fingerprint reader, then I hit update again, and it downloaded another update that subsequently fixed it.
If you just want to backup messages and phone calls, I use this:
SMS Backup & Restore - Apps on Google Play
A simple app that backs up and restores SMS & MMS messages and call logs.
play.google.com
Can back up to cloud as well as your device.
Otherwise I've had no issues with the Google backup in Settings.
So at some point in the last 3 or 4 months, a lot of my old text messages disappeared. IE there's a few group chats and individual chats where the messages don't go back any further than a year and a half to 2 years. There's not a specific cut off date, and these are threads that go back several years. I've looked through them 3-4 months ago, so i know they were there.
I cannot get them to show back up to save my life. I have a backup of my Note 10+ i had before this, as well as a backup of the note 22 from a few months back. both show 10's of thousands of SMS messages. I factory reset my phone and restored the messages from the note 10 save, but no luck, same issue, they cut off at specific points and wont go back further.
I downloaded SMS backup and restore because I absolutely do not want something like this to happen again, but i noticed that even though my back ups show thousands and thousands of sms messages, SMS backup and restore is only showing 6000 messages. This has me very baffled. Im wondering if one of the recent updates caused this or something? I have made no major changes to anything sms related over the last few months, so for this to just suddenly happen, and me not be able to restore them even after a factory reset just really has me losing my mind. If these messages are gone, then their gone, but it doesnt make sense, and the number that SMS backup and restore says are on my phone vs what should be on there from the restore just don't add up.
Anyone else experience anything like this??
edit: this is an AT&T version
I can only confirm that SMS Backup and Restore Pro v10.10.001 supports 13692 sms without any problem. I delete the mms because the archive file swells very fast. Currently the archive is 4.7 MB.
