OrageFox recovery does not decrypt data - General Questions and Answers

Hi, i recently unlocked my phone bootloader (Redmi Note 10) and installed TWRP. It works fine, when i launch the recovery it asks me for my pattern lock and if i input it correctly it decypts the data. I wanted to try orangefox recovery because i prefer it for it's functonalities and look. I tried installing it but when i launch it it asks me for a text password/PIN. There's two problems here: First: i don't have a text password or a pin but a pattern lock. Second : i tried setting up a pin instead of a pattern lock in android but i still could'nt decrypt data when entering orangefox recovery.
I tried with the latest version of orangefox for the redmi note 10.
sorry for my bad english, i'm french.
(edit: by the way i don't want to format or wipe my data)

ASK in the official device thread. when coming from TWRP or stock recovery, you need to flash OF recovery using the .zip and not using .img file, else you will get installation problems. Of course, Formatting Data partition (not wiping) will solve your problem most likely (I saw your edit).
As for decrypting using a pattern, refer to the official TWRP command line dictionary. Pay attention to the section: Specific pattern decrypt note
Again. Ask in your device sub-forum.

Hey, thank you very much for your reply. I tried the pattern decrypt method but it did not work (my pattern would be 14569) I will ask in the device thread
(also yes i'm flashing orangefox with a zip file from TWRP)

(Q)TeamWin Recovery and encrypted system

Hello Guys,
Have a quick question, sine upgrading to the latest Lollipop update and encrypting the system (work requirements) every time I boot to recovery and put my password for the decryption , I get an error in recovery that the password is incorrect.
I know for sure that the password is correct.
I have tried Team Win version 2.8.5.1 and 2.8.6.0 with the same result.
Any advise? As right now I can’t use recovery for what I need it for

Encrypted MI 4C, Weekly Rom, TWRP 3.0.3.0 encryption password not accepted

Hi folks,
My MI4C is on the weekly MIUI 7.4.x, I am now looking to upgrade, hence as usual I rebooted in recovery.
The phone has obviously root and unlocked bootloader.
TWRP is asking for my encryption password, which I know, but no matter what, TWRP does not flipping accept the password!
What can I do?
Do you know if you have the Nougat bootloader or the old one?
I have not found a TWRP that can successfully decrypt it Nougat bootloader ROMs. If you are not on the Nougat Bootloader then I recommend trying Team Superluminal's TWRP, since that is the only one that worked with encryption enabled for me I think.
Have you got a working rom/os on the phone ?, If you do have try to add a password on the rom, hope the twrp has a new working crypto after that and ask you for a new password. If it didnt work try to reinstall the twrp by erasing it first.
Hi, I am on the Nougat bootloader, I tried to change the encryption password, tried to remove the encryption, but nothing worked, TWRP is still asking me the password to access the data partition.
What can I do?
I cannot wipe the phone, as I use it for my work, how can I upgrade TWRP when encryption is on?
Hi folks, anybody in my situation? I would like to avoid wiping the entire phone just because of the TWRP password bug.
I changed to a PIN password, but nothing works.

TWRP for OOS9.0.2

Hey there, I've tried installing the blu_spark TWRP, I've temporarily installed v9.86 .img file via fastboot, then tried flashing the zip for blu_spark TWRP, however every time I reboot into recovery it becomes the default OnePlus recovery. I don't get a "slide to allow system modifications" at the start, is that a problem? Thanks in advance!
If this can help, i fastbooted the Blu_Spark, flashed what i needed (magisk) and then flashed the official TWRP, i have the official now installed, not the Blu_Spark (i still prefer use the Blu_spark anyway for every official update, just in case)
Ok
Perfect

I have a big problem… On my op6 i have android pie version 9.0.2 ( the last one ) and already I have unlocked the bootloader but when i charge by fastboot mode any versions of twrp.img ( blu spark and the last one of enchilada, version 3.2.3 ) when I tap on "Install" go directly on sdcard and here I see many folders with strange name….like "oPgjjhFrhgh65bfgHg"... and there aren't the normal folder's names into sdcard… so I don't see also the zip file for install Twrp or Magisk...Can you help me please?
Fastboot to Recovery using the blu_spark Image. In twrp Flash the zip and the twrp should be still there after a reboot

Thank you for your answer!! But the problem that I have is when I fastboot to recovery using The Blu Spark Image: when I have done this when i push on " Install " I can see only strange folders with strange names like " 0fjhsgegfjhjskhgf".... and I can not see the normal folders with the normal name into sdcard... How I said already I have the bootloader unlocked and I have the stock rom 9.0.2 on my op6.

No data is corrupted. Before doing this remove any screen lock (pin or swipe) and your data will not show up as encrypted anymore. It is twrp bug afaik.

Roel1976 you are my hero!!!! Thank you so much!!!!!! You have solved my problem!!! Thanks thanks thanks thanks…..I was going to be crazy because i tried many and many time to root my op6 reinstalling many and many time the stock rom pie and at last you arrived….and you solved my problem!!!
So there is a bug into the last versions of all TWRP, enchilada and blu spark: if we have a lock screen (PIN , Sequence, facial lock screen) into the sdcard of TWRP we see strange folder's names like "OFgsjdhdfkeiu564sflk"...
If we disable all lock screen (PIN, Sequence, facial lock…) and reboot in fastboot and load TWRP, how a kind of magic, we can see all folders with the normal name and all zip and .img that we have copied into!!!
So is not a data corrupted and so we have not to format data, but we have only to disable all kind of lock screen!!!
Roel 1976 thank you so much everywhere you are!!!
haha thanks mate, happy to be of assistance. I just found someone who suggests a solution to the encrypted data problem:

Google Pixel TWRP "password failed, please try again"

Hello, been running twrp with encryption on Lineage OS 16 without problems for 6 months. But yesterday I flashed new android Q factory image and was unable to decrypt my data in twrp, even when I put the right password in it says ''password failed, please try again''. I tried flashing various factory images, custom roms even Lineage 16 but problem persists. I had this same problem back then when I first bought this phone but managed to solve it, I can't remember how I did it. TWRP is up to date. Any ideas? thanks.
It's TWRP issue. Sadly TWRP 3.3.1 is not available in zip format. Only in .img format. In 3.3.1 this problem is resolved.
As workaround you can remove any PIN, fingerprint and set security to none in setting and you won't have to enter anything in TWRP. Do whatever you want in TWRP and then set up PIN and fingerprint again.

Yeah I know this, but why did it started to do this after flashing Q factory image? TWRP worked without any problem on various custom roms. Actually now I remembered that while flashing Q factory image there was a problem mounting vendor and system partition, so I went back and flashed Lineage 16 and there this TWRP password thing started if I remember correctly.
I came here looking for the answer to this very issue.
I shot off an email to TWRP if they were going to update the latest zip to 3.3.1 because fastbooting to the img works fine.
I might try the trick of removing pin and security and try again.
I have the same problem but with 9.0, if I have a pin it's ok it decrypts just fine but when I have the fingerprint set up I get this problem, it kinda blows, I'm not using twrp everyday but it still blows that you have to disable security Everytime you want to use it, also, last night I used twrp with the security on it could not decrypt so and when i tried to reboot into system, I got the prompt to install the twrp app, I screwed up and used the slider instead of the button to cancel the installation and it messed up the system, so watch out for that crap.

Twrp refuses my pincode

Hi,
I wanted to flash TWRP on my Pixel 3a. I used the method mentionned on the TWRP website (https://twrp.me/google/googlepixel3a.html) but when I boot on TWRP temporarily, it asks for my password.
I use a pincode and fingerprint. I read that I had to put my pincode but it doesn't work and doesn't decrypt the data for User [0]. Some posts on the internet mention a default password such as "default_password" but it doesn't work because TWRP only proposes a pincode keyboard.
If I delete my fingerprints and deactivate pincode, TWRP works without asking me a code but I don't want to deactivate pincode for this !
Is there something I'm missing ?
Remove PIN, do what you want to do with TWRP and reenable PIN after you're done with TWRP; You have to repeat same procedure every time you want to access any files on your phone from TWRP. As far as I know this is the only way…
