Mod a samsung s8 for what app only ? - General Topics

Hi guys so i wanted some advice i have a old samsung s8 that i want to give to my old gran as she is not tec savvy i want to know is it possible to remap the system so all it has access to is whatsapp and cant do nothing else take all apps off the home screen and such apart from whats app
many thanks

Yes, it is possible to remap your Samsung S8 so that your grandmother only has access to WhatsApp and cannot do anything else. Here are some steps that you can follow:
Create a new user profile on your Samsung S8, which will be used exclusively by your grandmother.
Go to the Play Store and download a launcher app such as Nova Launcher or Apex Launcher. These apps will allow you to customize the home screen and remove all unnecessary apps.
After installing the launcher app, set it as the default launcher for your grandmother's user profile.
Go to the home screen and remove all the apps that you don't want your grandmother to access. You can do this by long-pressing the app icon and then dragging it to the "Remove" or "Uninstall" option.
Add the WhatsApp app to the home screen and place it in a prominent position so that your grandmother can easily access it.
Finally, lock the home screen layout so that your grandmother cannot accidentally move or delete the WhatsApp icon. You can do this in the launcher settings.
By following these steps, you can create a customized user profile for your grandmother that only has access to the WhatsApp app and is easy to use.

Hello thanks alot for your help just to ask how do i go about making another profile ?
Also is it possible to have it where when the phone switches on you could just have whatsapp there no sliding right or left or being able to change any settings ?
Many thanks

[Q] How can I replace unmovable shortcuts on homescreen *root*

I am running the stock Rogers rom (2.3.3) and am rooted.
The phone came preloaded with 'phone' 'internet' 'email' and 'applications' shortcuts at the bottom of the screen (like so http://www.androidincanada.ca/web/c...9_with_three_year_contract_54999_outright.jpg). I would like to replace 'email' with the Gmail application and possibly add messages to the list. These items however can not be dragged around like normal home screen shortcuts/widgets.
How can I do this? I am rooted!
I think your best bet is to use a different Launcher that you can customize. I use ADWex it lets you chose from lots of different dock bars and you can use any icon you want or even edit the icon. Just be sure to download Home Switcher so the you can go back if you dont like the launcher and If you like whatever launcher you chose you can delete Twiz launcher all together with Titanium backup since you are already rooted.
Thanks for the reply, I would ideally like to keep the stock launcher. Is there a way using root explorer to change the path of the email icon so it goes to gmail (or even messages)

[Q] App auto Freeze/Defrost/Launch from App Drawer

Hi, I am looking for a way to automatically freeze/defrost/launch an application but from the app drawer.
Titanium backup has a widget that performs exactly this way except that being a widget, it cannot be run from the app drawer.
I do not use items on the homescreen (aside from the dock), nor do I wish to. Currently using Apex lanucher.
So, the main questions are:
Is there a way to use widgets in the app drawer?
Is there a way to perform the function of Titanium Backup freeze/defrost/launch without a widget, yet more automated.
Is there a way to 'intercept' between the app icon and the launching process to auto freeze/defrost the app?
Have been searching for an answer to this for a long time. Ideally if this could be done with full automation, ie when you install a new app it automatically gets a freeze/defrost icon/link/widget/etc without having to set it up.
Any help, info, thoughts, would help immensely.
A bit of a bump as I'd be interested in this too.
There is likely a custom launcher that allows widgets in folders or the app drawer, no?
I have a sort of solution for you that sort of works (hear me out)
I guess you don'tl like the clutter that comes with homescreen widgets (me too)
Heres what i did: use nova launcher, and have multiple docks (swipe to change). You CAN place widgets (1x1 certainly) in the dock, and then just hide it away by swiping to a differnt dock.
I must admit it doesnt work amazingly well when you press it, and takes some time to work sometimes, but its kind of a work around.
I use this solution currently for my Wifi High Performance Widget (1x1), which doesnt need to be touched so its in the dock
Hope this helps

Are there any apps that blocks other apps from adding bookmarks& home screen icons on

Are there any apps that blocks other apps from adding bookmarks& home screen icons on
I think I would like an app that can tell you which app added which bookmark or homescreen icon & let you know when an app is trying to add them to your phone & ask you if you want to block it.
I'm talking about those bookmarks and homescreen icons that are sometimes added to your phone when you install certain free apps. They're usually search engines and the developer can earn money whenever you use them.
I'm not sure if an app like this even exists but if there are any please let me know

Anyway to bulk move apps from the app drawer to home screen?

Just restored all my apps to a new phone using Titanium but the only drawback to that manoeuvre is all 150 apps are in the app drawer now and I need to drag each shortcut individually to the home screen. Is there a setting to tell Titanium to put shortcuts on the home screen?
Is there anyway now for me to bulk move apps from the app drawer to home screen?
There must be an app, an exposed or play store app that can do this, my phone is rooted - its a Galaxy Note 2 touch wiz 4.42.
For future reference is there anyway to backup my home screen folders and app shortcut setup when moving to a different phone/hardware?
No one?
Did a good search on play store but the only thing I could find was app drawer replacements
Is there any exposed app that can do this?
I have discovered a way using Nova launcher, install nova before restoring apps from titanium and in the settings tell nova to put a shortcut on the home page for newly installed apps. Then when titanium restores the apps a shortcut will be placed on the homescreen for each app, remember that is Novas homescreen not the vanilla launcher of your phone.
I use Nova now so all the homescreen app placements are restored with the app but maybe this may help someone.

[Q] Missing features?

I couldnt find the next options:
- Spotify Lockscreen background (album picture)
- Lockscreen Background - Live Weather - should have option for set up the downloadable number of pictures per day
- Unlocked/Not mobile carried ROM has no automatic ABC list in menu and you have only manual "edit" option
...or "user error"?
With the ABC menu, I assume you mean the app menu in the touchwizz launcher? If so, the only way I've found so far is to root your phone and then modify a CSC file. The easiest way for that is to download the CSC modifier app my wanam from Play store (after rooting) and search for "alphabet", find the appropriate setting, and set it to "TRUE", and reboot. But like I said, it involves rooting, and all the associated risks of doing so.
For the others you mention, I have no advice I'm afraid.
Thanks for the advice!
Yes, I mean app menu in the TW launcher. But its not such an important setting to modify and root my phone. Anyway, I would appreciate a future update from Samsung.
I liked the fullscreen album art on the lockscreen when I had kitkat on the S4, when it went to lollipop it stopped doing it. I don't know if it's possible to enable it again or if it's a lollipop screw up.
I'm sure if we made enough of a fuss about it, they'll put some of these features back :3 there's no logical reason I can think of to remove a simple "Sort" button.
If you aren't too bothered about TW only widgets (like the weather clock), you could always use another home launcher app. Google Launcher and Nova are both quite good. Google Launcher is nice and simple, and Nova is customisable to the extreme.
I'm currently in the process of organising my folders and home screen layout of Nova should have installed that first, as I now have loads of apps to organise u.u damn....
