Hello,
I got this phone purchased from the USA and am using it in India. There are two prominent 5G providers here. Jio, which does not recognize my device as "True 5G", and Airtel, which says my device supports 5G but needs an update. The official Lenovo community guys have asked me to contact the place of purchase, which I can't.
What are my options? Will I be able to use 5G on this device in India?

Check what band requirements your carrier has for 5G.
Then on phone app dial pad enter
*#*#4636#*#*
Select "Phone information"
In the Phone info screen tap the 3 dots on upper right
Select the "Select Radio Band" and select as needed.
Hope that works. If not check your APN.

After "Select Radio Band" , only one "Automatic" option is showing.

Hi
I got a LG Fathom but I can't use it because it needs a activation through Verizon. I am in Canada. I am wondering if some one has the same issues. Or I can get the custom rom in it so I can use it on GSM network here in Canada without any activation from Verizon. Also how Can I test if its Unlocked or not? Please help me turn this brick into a usable phone. Thanks XDA

Don't know too much on this subject but I do know that if you look at all the apps you should have a "superuse" app which means its unlocked. Also Verizon doesn't use Sim cards so using it on a network that needs sim cards doesn't work to my knowledge.
LG Fathom does have the sim card
I does have sim card. It's a world phone but useless until activated. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks team
Also in Canada and also got an LG Fathom (aka VS 750). It seems the best way to use the phone outside of Verizon is to change the phone's "Network" mode to disable CDMA and use only "GSM/UMTS Mode", otherwise the phone will always ask to be activated whenever it is powered on.
To set the Network mode, in Windows go to "Settings" > "Personal" > "Phone".
In "Phone", click the tabs from "Sound" to "Security" to "GSM Services" to "Network".
In "Network", under "Mode of Operation", click on "GSM/UMTS Mode" and click "OK".
Your LG Fathom should now be ready for use outside of Verizon.
Next, get the phone's IMEI: in Windows go to "Settings" > "System" > "System Information".
In "System Information", click the tabs from "Version" to "Phone Info" -- the 15-digit IMEI (eg. 359943...) will be displayed below the MEID and the MDN.
Next, find a local phone provider that will support that IMEI. Most have web pages that will let you check your phone's IMEI (phone compatibility). I've just signed up with Koodo and that seems to be working now. Hope that helps.
I have a strange issue, the phone is connected to 5g network but the icon is still 4g, can anyone confirm this? I am not sure if is a theme issue or something else
Looks like your network doesn't send UpperLayerIndicator so that is reason why 5G icon doesn't appear to status bar. Maybe 5G is not officially opened?
I do have the same issue and I was able to contact level-3 support of my operator. Can you provide more information about that? @lovers74 : where is this screen coming from? @olkitu : Thanks for this information "UpperLayerIndicator " seems to be the keyword!

It is officially opened, and working correctly and on other devices such as Huawei or Samsung I can see the icon.

UpperLayerIndicator is in SIB2 signaling message to tell UE (example phone) this LTE tower have 5G support. Otherwise UE shows 4G icon.
Some UE like Huawei and Samsung shows 5G icon when connected to NR even network doesn't have UpperLayerIndicator in SIB2.
And most of devices show 5G icon without 5G NR... "Fake 5G"
It's N78 5G? On a S20 Ultra you see 5G but it's greyed out, because it's only 5G in downlink.

Samsung shows 5G when network send UpperLayerIndicator message and then change 5G icon color when connected to 5G layer. You can use example CellMapper app to see if 5G State Connected or not.
n78 is not only downlink, can't be uplink too. That depends network configuration.

Thanks to paolotheking and this thread about an important secret code for the Velvet and other devices:
LG Velvet Hidden Menu code
Enjoy: #*462633*#900# Works with G900EM
forum.xda-developers.com
I could finally activate the 5G network capability of my phone.
I have a Dutch (NLD) genuine SIM unlocked Velvet LM-G900EM with latest Android 11 v20d-EEA-XX installed.
If you hit with the phone dialpad this sequence:
#*462633*#900#
it will lead you to a hidden menu where you can find all sort of information and tweaking options.
You have to choose "Field Test", then "Modem settings". You will have here many things you can change. Go to "RAT Selection", it will give you many more options than the ones you find under the regular "Network settings".
I tested here first "LTE(5G NSA) Auto" and it instantly made the 5G icon appear in the task bar! So I then hit the "GSM/WCDMA/LTE(5G NSA) Auto" option. I now have up to 5G automatic network selection!
Only issue is that under the regular Network settings, "Preferred network" states now "26" and if I want to see what other options you have, it only lists the options up to 4G preferred and it will go back to 4G maximum. So you have to go through the hidden menu again to activate it.
I also tested that if you power off the phone, 5G maximum stays activated when you power on the phone again, good to know.
You may also try to tweak your 5G bands by selecting them in the corresponding menu "Band Selection" in the "Field Test", "Modem Settings". Some of them might not really work though, as it might be hardware related depending on your model.
Hopefully it can help people finally being able to use the 5G network of their provider with the Velvet, and possibly other LG 5G phones like the V50(S) V60, Wing. You just have to put your model number at the end of the secret code ...#900# for the Velvet, ...#510# for the V50S ...#100# for the Wing, aso, if I understood it good.
Edit: works for the LG Wing too, just tested it!

Samsung has disabled access to Hidden Phone settings (For band selection, disabling 5G) which could be accessed by apps like NetMonster and Samsung Band Selection App.
This Has happened after the June 1 Security Patch update.
Any suggestions of workaround appreciated.
Thanks

Didn't work.
FWIW Samsung Band Selection still works for me after June 1 update on U1, I can still access the "Preferred network type" setting after clicking "MORE NETWORK SETTINGS" and then the name of my SIM.
Sucks I've just started using it everyday about a month ago and now is gone out of life.
Not working anymore with u1. I miss forcing my phone to use a specific band
The Samsung Band Selection explains the app depends on the fireware to exploit the hidden menu. This has happen before and eventually have a app update
It may not update this time, according to the developer.

Yes, it still works that way for me too on the July update with U1.
I have a workaround, but I won't be explaining it in detail.
From what I gathered; Samsung has only disabled the hidden menu through an app update. The function is still accessible on a firmware level. Which means there's still hope if you're rooted. You can download an older version of Samsung Call Settings and do a system-less installation of it.
I did the downgrade using LP magisk module, but since it's blocked on XDA I can't really explain the process here.
Haven't tried yet, but any other system-less app installer modules might do the downgrade as well.
or, if you're running a custom version of OneUI, just ask a OneUI Rom developer to downgrade the app in their rom.
I want to try this because my S22 has very poor band signal on 3G-4G (my network doesn't have 5G)
