Question Stuck at December update - Google Pixel 7 Pro

I bought my phone in USA but living in Europe now. My latest update is December. Is it normal? I tried to use a vpn USA server, still no update. Any idea?
Thanks

Hi, it's not normal and normal at the same time apparently. This has been posted before, search for more info. I didn't get updates for a while and then, after deleting play system/services related data I got 7 updates in a row, both security, play store and os updates. Had to invoke them manually each time.

Thank you @blackspp . Any detailed process name that you deleted the data please? I deleted play store data but nothing yet...

It doesn't work for me. So strange. I will try to install the latest beta manually. Thanks so much though.

Weird issue after restoring apps with TiBU

Basically I have backups for about 130 different apps, games, etc. After I setup my ROM (Mahdi latest update) I used titanium backup pro to batch restore the apps. Just the apps, no data. So I was trying out xposed framework and saw instagram downloader. I thought it sounded cool so I set it up and installed it. I tried testing it by logging into instagram and trying to save a photo. Instagram crashed (fc) right off the bat. So I went back to the module page and saw the latest update was to make it compatible with instagram v5.1.4. So I went to play store and saw the version of the latest instagram version... 5.1.4. Here's the weird part. It only had 2 options. Open and uninstall, which led me to believe it was up to date. So I went to settings/apps/ instagram and I was running version 5.0.8. Back to play store and still no option to update. I had to uninstall it and install it back again to get the correct version.
Just wondering if this has happened to anyone else? Currently going through all of my user applications and manually matching the app info version with play store version to see if any more are facing the same issue. This is my first issue using titanium on the phone so far (that I know about)

I'd say not really. That seems to be a sync issue. Just didn't recognize the purchase on the phone. Thanks for your reply, but I'll try to explain a little better.
Normally when you have an outdated app installed that is on the play store, if you visit that apps page on the play store you will (normally) see 2 options. Update or uninstall if I'm not mistaken. Or open and update. One of the 2. My issue is that after restoring instagram from titanium backup, the play store saw it as up to date. There was no option anywhere in the play store to update the application which was on 5.0.8. Correct version being 5.1.4. So because it saw it as updated for whatever reason I couldn't update it to correct version. I had to uninstall it and install it again to get the correct version.
So essentially;
Check instagram on play store to see if update is available for it. Says there is none and that all of my apps are up to date. Go to app settings and see instagram isn't really up to date. Go back to play store to confirm there is no update. There is no option to do so (play store thinks app is fully updated). Must uninstall it and when I install again it is up to date.
So naturally if it didn't recognize an update for one of my apps I'm assuming there's more. I always leave auto sync on, but I'll see if there was a sync error. I don't think that's it, however. Probably going to take this up in the tibu thread as well.
the play store doesnt see if you need updates right away, it can time time. when apps are released, one person can get/see an update a day or two after another, even though the app is updated for everyone. plus, if you just restored, the play store would have to sync first before you saw it as new.

The thing is the update(instagram) was released 9 days ago. I know updates take a few hours to push to the public after a developer releases it. I just tried to replicate it again by uninstalling it and restoring from titanium. Same issue. I'd had all my apps installed since the 13th. The day the latest mahdi update came out. It should have caught it in 6 days. :/
Still stumped.
Besides if that was the case that the update hadn't been pushed to the play store yet, it would still show 5. 0. 8. Not the new 5. 1. 4

If you read my OP that's exactly how I got it up to date....twice
I'm saying my issue is that the play store has recognized an application as up-to-date after being restored from tibu when it is indeed not up-to-date. Can't be because I didn't get the update pushed to play store yet, because the update is already on play store for me.
After trying a couple things it has become all too apparent that this is most likely an issue caused by titanium backup. I will continue to troubleshoot there from now on. Sorry, but I don't seem to be successfully getting my point across here. Thanks for all your replies, though.

na. i have memories of many times in the past 6 years when the version showing for me was the updated version, yet i was still on the older version, and didnt show me an update(especially with google app updates). at a later point that day i got the update. if you know that an app got an update, yet you didnt at that point, i bet itll still show you the version thats updated.
It's been at least 6 days since ROM install. 9 since instagram update. I wasn't on the latest version. There should have been an update button in the play store on instagrams page.
This is the first time ever seeing this since the Droid X, X2, stratosphere, toro galaxy nexus, n5... I never keep auto update on. Back in the X2 days an app got updated automatically and was no longer compatible with the phone. Just force closed. Couldn't roll back. Since then I always updated manually and kept an eye on app versions, etc. If I didn't pay attention to that stuff or try xposed I probably would have never noticed it.
right, but you also restored a backup. id think that would change things, until your phone resyncs everything, which isnt always right away also.
What exactly do you mean by syncing? In the last 6 days I've had quite a few play store notifications telling me there's updating to the following applications. I remember specifically, multirom, Google camera, ez weather, screen filter and ecodrive just off the top of my head. Instagram wasn't there. Yet I keep auto sync in and I checked after your first reply. There was no sync errors. Everything was checked off and refreshed within 40 minutes of checking. :/
So to confirm, you wiped data in play app? Do it again

Ironically, no and yes. I was messing around after I noticed that. I found an app called Recovery Tools on the play store. I figured I'd secure my data by flashing stock recovery and locking BL. Don't know why but I got the urge but I used to do it on my toro nexus. Anyways I made the mistake of locking my boot loader with boot unlocker and then flashed stock recovery. Phone went haywire. Tried a cache wipe from stock recovery but it did nothing. My phone booted, to my surprise but I was met with nonstop sysUI and gallery FC. I ended up having to scroll through my apps in between FC to open boot unlocker and unlock again. Then since I had no systemUI I had no home keys so i had to reboot again go back to the recovery tools app to flash my recovery backup I made before doing this. Long story short (too late) I had a bunch of stuff reset. Most of my system settings. Anything that had to do with systemUI. Even opened play store and was prompted to accept the terms of service again. Still showed no update for IG
I'm over it for now. Tonight I'll check my app info versions and match them with play store. Luckily xposed has a module to put a play store link in app info so it should be quicker!! Hahahaha
Anyways I'll bring it to the attention of the tibu dev in their thread if I find any more apps that aren't up to date on my phone, despite play store telling me they are
Does TB still have the break market link feature in settings? It's possible that got activated somehow. If it happens again go to menu. Then Market Docter. Market Update helper will also get you the update. Just some thoughts.

[Q] Last three digits of correct Play Services version?

I manually updated Play Services through APKMirror about a month or two ago and have since been paranoid that I installed the wrong version for my phone. I was hoping someone could verify the correct last three digits of the version for the Verizon M8 to see if I need to reinstall.
Thanks for any help!
Mine is -038.

Thanks for your help. Unfortunately, if you manually update Play Services, it fully replaces the previous version, so while you can read the last three digits in the place you mentioned, they only show you the latest version you updated, not necessarily the correct version that originated on your phone.
Anyway, I ended up uninstalling updates (which can only be done by going into Security and unchecking Android Device Manager, otherwise all options in the Apps page are grayed out). Once I did that, the Play Store automatically notified me to update Play Services and it reverted back to the correct version.

Play Store not updating

Hello , I bought my mate 9 from China two weeks ago,I am back home now USA, I am having a weird issue with play store.
If I want to install an app or update,
It shows downloading and it is not downloading anything.
It will stuck like that forever.
I tried everything, play store force stop, clear cache, restart and recently factory reset.
It works for two days and then stop again.
I don't see anything blocking my connection.
Hiapp works fine, downloading from the internet is fine. Did anyone experience that issue.
I will appreciate the help.
I believe Google Play Services are not officially supported on the Chinese Mate 9 (MHA-AL00). There is a work around that you can find here. What country are you in? What model number is your phone?

I have same model( 6gb ram) and I'm studying in china. I have to use VPN to connect to Playstore, though it depend on time but it still download. I have used my phone for 8 days and still can connect and update small apps ( of course speed is very slow). I hope when i come back to my country next month, situation will get better.
Try allowing Unknown Sources under Security Settings. Then force close the Play Store app and open it again or reboot. Let me know if it works.

I am in China too, problem with VPN most often. If your VPN are poor, the google store most likely wont' work for you. I recomend using Astrill in china if you give it a try. But it does require a monthly fee.

Use your current VPN to see if you can access Astrill from USA. Then just purchase the plan and download the apk. With the same account you can also use it on the computer by dowloading the Windows version. Cheers.

Sorry guys but that means that GMS Google installer doesn't work for you?
Here you go ,stop updating or downloading. No idea at this point...I am getting frustrated with that phone.
I will not factory reset again,
I have tried to enable the unknown source download and install and then force stop google play and clear the cache of google play and then restart.
It seems this way fixed the bug that google play doesn't download without reboot. I will use it for several more days to confirm that this method can solve the problem.

My phone is it doesn't update until resbooting the phone, once reboot, it can work for a while.
Since this phone can boot pretty fast, it doesn't bother me that much.
I haven't found a single way to fix it and I don't think there is a way to fix it until now

January security patch for Google Play Store

Yes, both are staged rollouts. However, OTA updates can be "forced" by manually pressing the "Check for update" button, which sadly doesn't work for Google Play system update.

If you are talking about the Google play system update, it was mentioned on the security bulletin page that this month there is none... Weirdly i just checked now and got one, but i guess its just a number bump.
Btw you can check for updates if you just press on it in the settings page (see the attached pic)
About the playstore version, yes its a staged rollout, don't worry if you don't have the latest version. Also the playstore (app) version has nothing to do with the "google play system update" those are 2 different things.

I really don't think pressing "Check for update" forces anything. Updating to the February security patch yesterday via the ADB method. Tried your way before, nada.
I have been updating like this since I got the Pixel 3a and it always worked on the first day when the update was released.
The button used to be "placebo" effect before, but then they fixed it with a certain version of the Google Play Services about a year ago.

[GUIDE] How to fix Google Play system update not updating or being stuck

Hello. I have seen lots of complaints regarding Google Play system update being stuck, and no further updates being offered at all.
After researching, I discovered a splendidly simple solution—logging out all but one Google account on the phone, clearing Google Play services data, and trying again.
The Main Components APK that other threads suggest is malicious. Do not install such APKs.Threads are suggesting installing an APK called "Main Components", saying that it'll update your device. Do not believe such claims—all it does is change the date shown on your phone. It's very small and does not require restarting to install, proving the ineffectiveness of this app. It also causes versioning issues and incompatibility, and in extreme cases, will brick your device.
In case you have already installed the app, uninstall it immediately via the following ADB command:
adb uninstall com.google.android.modulemetadata
Fixing the Google Play system updateSTEP 1: Update Google Play services to the latest version.
Spoiler: Update Google Play services to the latest version
On your phone, open this page with the Google Play Store, then tap on "Update". If that button does not show up, then Google Play services is updated already.
STEP 2: Leave only one Google account signed in on your phone.
Spoiler: Leave only one Google account signed in on your phone
If you have more than one Google account signed in on your phone, sign out the other accounts and leave the one you often use. Make sure that this account is not a Personal Account (not from your school/work).
For instructions on how to see the accounts on your device and to sign out them, see here.
STEP 3: Clear Google Play services' data and restart the phone.
Spoiler: Clear Google Play services' data and restart the phone
Note: Do not uninstall updates of Google Play services.
Important: When you clear Google Play Services data or storage, it may delete some information saved to your device, including transit cards, COVID cards, and virtual payment cards saved to Google Pay.
On your Android phone or tablet, open the Settings app.
Tap Apps > See all apps. Note that you do not need to tap "See all apps" on Samsung devices.
Scroll down and tap "Google Play Services."
Tap Storage > Clear Cache.
Tap Manage Space > Clear all Data. Note that "Manage Space" is called "Manage Storage" instead on Samsung devices.
Restart your device.

STEP 4: Check for Google Play system updates again and hope for the best.
Spoiler: Check for Google Play system updates again and hope for the best
Now go check for Google Play system updates again. There should be an update, follow the prompts to download and install it. After installation, it should prompt you to restart. If not, tap on "Check for updates" again and it shall prompt you to restart. After restarting, check if the update was successfully installed. If yes, congrats, you have successfully updated!

Not malicious in a malware sense, but it causes further problems and is useless, unless if you want to fool yourself into some placebo update.

That apk doesn't do no harm to your phone but it doesn't do any good also; it only changes the date.
For me this process does nothing. I already tried lot of methods without luck. My phone had no issues on Android 10 but after Android 11 the Google Play System update went nuts, I use only one Google account. I tried to factory reset the phone, clearing data/cache for Play Store, Play Services (updated), going to Safe mode and clear these data/caches but nothing works. I tried to go beta for Google Play Services but no luck. It is just frustrating because I not modified the ROM of the phone and the Unihertz manufacturer cant help me, I also reported this issue several times to Google Support, but the best effort was from them to ask videos about the issue. I got no response after my report. This is just nuts from Google, seriously unprofessional. They marketed the Android 10,11 with this update, to provide basic security updates for every phone and they cannot provide it at all for lot of users facing this issue. You can search about this and this is independent from manufacturers, the issue is in Android 11 probably.
Tried this myself.
Still on June 2022 Play Update on Android 12.
I expected July at least. And August should also be out any moment now.
How can you call com.google.android.modulemetadata aka main components as malicious? It is one of the component introduced as project mainline. Have some research before posting,
Project Mainline - https://www.xda-developers.com/android-project-mainline-modules-explanation/
Module Metadata aka Main Components - https://source.android.com/docs/core/architecture/modular-system/metadata
When you install this to system, it parse information from playstore/services apk since google push the system updates through playstore and services apk (latest here) and updates the same in the UI. Installing this won't install system updates but it shows the right system version you are on. Works only with devices showing wrong system update due to a factory reset.
I know you are trying to help, but make sure to use the right wordings.
Thanks!
How to disable automatic updates? After update my Xiaomi Mi A2 with Android 13 Port from Pixel 5 freezing and overheating.
If i delete /data/apex/ folder and reboot everything works fine.
This issue is certainly after Android 11 and 12, the downgrade to Android 10 solved the issue for me, with Android 10 the Google Play System Update works flawlessly. Also the Android 11 has GUI performance, high cpu usage and battery drain issues. Unnaceptable from today standards, I hope one day I can get a good Android device that works just fine.
I'm on Android 13 and this didn't help me. I'm still on June 22, and there's even October already available.
It's now almost November 2022 - Google Has Failed To Resolve The Problem. And this issue started after May 1st 2021.
