Unicode 9 on Mate 9

All,
coming from an Iphone 6 (IOS 10.2) I am very used to use all the new emoijs (Unicode 9 based) that has been released with the latest IOS update. Now being on Nougat I was expecting to have them as well available, as I read that Unicode 9 should be supported by Android 7.
Is the availability depending on the chosen key-board, the phone's brand, the app version....
Thx for sharing your knowledge.
I know it's a bit late but not least You can use the latest google keyboard aka gboard it has the unicode 9 so the ios 10 emojis included. You can download it from play store.

Google is requiring Virtual A/B on new Android 11 devices. What about Mate 30 Pro?

Hello, according to this XDA article where Google will require Android 11 to carry a double partition on all devices that carry its operating system and applications, how can it affect the Mate 30 Pro if it receives EMUI 11?
And what about the Google applications and services that we have installed?

[Google Play, F-Droid, Android, MIUI] Recommended way to do apps migration between phones?

Hello,
I have two phones, both non-rooted, stock roms:
Source Phone:
Model: Xiaomi Redmi Note 4X 64 (Global Dual SIM TD-LTE 32GB 2016102)
Software: MIUI Global 11.0.2, Android 7.0
Target Phone:
Model: Samsung Galaxy A20 (SM-A505FN/DS).
Software: One UI 3.1, Android 11
I want to migrate all the apps from the Source to Target. Ideally with settings/appdata (but that's not a must have). Both phones use Google Play and F-Droid. I'd like to avoid using public cloud sync services although I have a self-hosted Nextcloud instance for transferring files, if needed be. What would be the recommended way to move all those apps from Source to Target?

Linux Smartphones [Wannabe Sub-Forum]

There's Android, there's iOS, and there's Linux. This thread is for anything and everything related to Linux Smartphones, seeing as how there is no official sub-forum on this subject. It is currently still under development, and will continue to be updated.
Some things to know:
1. This first post includes a list of mobile Linux phones, OSs and apps.
2. Linux phone related questions, answers, and comments are welcome here.
3. If you find a device, OS, or app you think should be on this list, let me know.
4. If you want to share information about a device, OS, or app that is already on here, post as follows, including the "#"(s) of the thing(s) you're talking about ("#"s are at the bottom of each section):

Top choice devices
Devices of the following three categories are the ones most likely to satisfy your needs over an extended period.
Commercial maintainers
Companies like Volla, FXP and Fairphone offer compatible Ubuntu Phones as part of their business. Their reputation rests on preventing any major problems and taking a long view. Some devices can even be bought with Ubuntu Touch already installed!
Porters with a track record
Some porters have built a reputation for long term commitment and competence.
Ubuntu Touch Edition
If you have one of the older devices, they are solid for now. Many in our community use them but technical difficulties in updating and closed source elements which we can’t access mean that those devices are not a good choice for anyone just starting with UT. They are also getting aged now and experience hardware faults.
If you manage to grab a new generation Ubuntu Touch Edition device like the PinePhone Pro or a Volla phone, that will be supported for much longer of course.

Thanks for the information! If you are planning to buy a Linux-based phone just remember that their biggest weakness right now is lack of apps, although many phones, including some on my above post, are capable of running Android and Linux.
I finished adding the Devices to the Ubuntu Touch section, and am thinking of adding more devices and expanding device information. Still looking for some popular open-source mobile Linux apps - any suggestions?
I added the Fairphone 4 and finished the "Supported Operating Systems" part of all the devices. I might add the Fairphone 3 and 3+ as well. Also, I'm still dragging my feet on updating the postmarketOS tables. Maybe tomorrow.
I'm torn about if I should link the OS's in the "Supported Operating Systems" part of a device to the main page or the device-specific page. Perhaps both. Also, I'm adding ""s to manufactures that are Linux-first (They ship devices with Linux preinstalled).

Tricky as android is linux, too. Well, sort of... Still, I know what you mean and I fully support the star: Frankensteining some android for slightly better privacy does not make it a saint.
As for me, I hadn't much time for picking/chasing a new phone but at least installed eOS for further inspection. And I might get a BQ for testing...

Well, Fairphone doesn't even talk about running Linux on their phones, and I'm pretty sure the only reason they have support is because of the community volunteering.
I wonder, since eOS is listed should iodéOS be added, too?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IodéOS
At least this sounds encouraging:

Also, it's available for my Fairphone FP3 (and others)
https://iode.tech/en/iodeos-installation/
On the positive side it does not force you into any cloud accounts (like eOS/Murena), as far as I can tell (haven't installed/tried it yet).

iodéOS has been added, and I'm now working on the apps section. Thanks for reminding me!
Since I was adding to your workload... let's keep it that way, shall we?
Perhaps, adding XDA's own Ubuntu Touch forum is possible?
https://forum.xda-developers.com/c/ubuntu-touch.2068/
My own testing with FP3 on UB Touch is concluded: Yes, it does work (was very happy once it did). Very nice installer! Unfortunately, it has only few apps and it kept often rebooting when taking screenshots.
Currently, it is a prerequisite to get Android 10 for installing which was a bit painful to get it (generally we are already at Android 13).
The lack of apps is painful - maybe I was expecting too much (was thinking ubuntu). And every thing needed like 1-2 extra seconds to start. Browser were not as snappy as elsewhere.
EOD: Not a gamechanger yet (personally for me not even an alternative). Still awesome to have something completely different!

Since I was adding to your workload... let's keep it that way, shall we?
Perhaps, adding XDA's own Ubuntu Touch forum is possible?

I have added a link to XDA's Ubuntu Touch thread in the Ubuntu Touch section. Yes, don't expect it to be an alternative quite yet, although every year mobile Linux gets much better. The reason there aren't many apps is because most Linux apps weren't designed to be adaptive, so they either have to be tweaked or rewritten to work on mobile devices.

iodé OS vs LineageOS vs /e/OS

Hey, straight to the point i've been using lineageOS ever since the day i found out there is an alternative to the stock google android rom.
Has anyone tried all three of the operatingsystems listed in the title, if so how do they compare to each other, what are the major differences, pros/cons?
I did not list grapheneOS and CalyxOS here because these work only with google pixel devices while the other three OS'es should be compatibly with *any* device.
I know that iode is based on lineageos or in other words a fork of lineageos, so question is, is there any point in switching from lineage to iode, any privacy benefits?
For example iode seems to have a builtin systemwide filterlist to block tracking requests, i don't think lineageos has anything like that and the only option i found so far is the nextDNS filter app.
About e/OS i know absolutely knowing, has it been around as long as lineage? How do they compare?
The 3 mentioned OSs are a so-called aftermarket OS.
LineageOS is a fork of AOSP ( vanilla Android OS ), e/OS is a fork of LineageOS - with the appearence of iOS, and iode OS is a fork of e/OS.
I'ld stay with LineageOS.

e/OS aim for an iOS apperance? Why would an android rom try to look like disgusting iphone/apple?
Don't need to respond to that, i just don't get the logic there.
Why apple and the people who buy iphones are disgusting should be clear, made with chinese dictator slavelabour, plus actively lobbying against human rights. How one can be dumb enough to purchase such devices is out of my mind.
Just had to be said.
iodeOS is a fork of e/OS, are you sure? I've heared it's a fork of lineage, so this confuses me.
I too am in the same boat - I have been reviewing all of these 3 OS's as i need to have a De-Googled OS on my
Samsung Note 10+
I was given some posts about 2 of these OS's though that i think people should review for themselves:

Interesting sources.
I've never trusted microG seemingly for good reason.
It's pretty stupid using a degoogled device just to compromise it with microG which is still google, i don't get the people who do that.
You either have privacy or you don't.
