Question Locked Bootloader and System Destroyed. - Xiaomi Mix Fold 2

EDIT: i was sold a mix fold not a mix fold 2. may have been why i was having so many issues.

just stop wasting your time trying to figure it out. if you can get into fastboot it can be fixed. go on telegram and pay one of the miui/xiaomi recovery groups around $40 to fix it. I wasted so so so much time trying to fix it myself before doing this before.

If fastboot is working normalyy, you should be able to flash it with a stock rom.
Use the xiaomi flash tool. It should allow you to flash stock roms with locked bootloader.

bootloader unlocked warning

Has anyone found away we can get rid of the bootloader unlocked warning? If not what's stopping people from finding out how to fix it?
Well, the Pixel has new partitions. That's about it from what I can tell.
Sadly it was already impossible with the Nexus 5X, so I would not be suprised if the same would be with Pixel. :'(

I kind of like the warning. It reminds me that nothing has changed with my BL since unlocking.

Without reading throught that thread again, I just remembered that I was able to change the imgdata and get rid of the warning screen, but only with an older version bootloader, not the latest one. It was more like a workaround than a real "hack". (But I donno what I am talkin about when the imgdata change is also just a workaround xD)

LOL, it's all good.
If it gets figured out, that would be nice. But as it is, I can live with it. You don't see it that often to begin with,, heh
I hope someone figures this out. I sold our MXP's after getting Pixels and it was pretty easy to change on that phone. The one downfall was in re-locking it to sale it. When I flashed it to full stock and re-locked the warning came back due to a flag being set to 2 (re-locked) instead of 1 (locked). I could still fastboot flash an image to replace it (even with a locked bootloader) but I have a feeling it's going to come back the first time the phone receives and OTA.
A little off topic, but I hope someone figures it out for this phone.

Some people just don't like so see it. And they buy Android for the customization
I'm sure the reason that they lock this out is so that someone can't remotely unlock the bootloader and then replace the boot image somehow via malware. Not to say that I love it, but it's a nice little thing to have for people who may not recognize a hack otherwise. Not that I really think there is likely to be malware that advanced for this phone but I suppose it is theoretically possible

Not sure, but I know a lot of people are looking into it.
I've looked into the pixel's partitions and there is a litteral crap load I've been trying to see if I could get CM14 running now with CM dead and moving to LineageOS and this phone being really hard to figure out I'm not surprised the partitions are an issue and please note I'm trying to port CM to be the first custom ROM out it's just to see how the phone works and what info I can learn yet to no avail so remember it's a personal "play around" project
If they can't handle a couple seconds when booting then they can always link their bootloader again.

MSM Download Tool?

I'm about to go for it and buy a 7 Pro, do we have an MSM Download Tool available yet here on XDA for the 7 Pro? I'm coming from the 6T and that tool is a MUST. Thanks guys!
No not yet. We have the files but its password protected.

Ah thanks! That's how it all started with the 6T, password protected file. It's a matter of time though! Cool! :good:
You'll be waiting for two weeks or more. I set oem lock to "off" in settings, and then did "fastboot oem lock" like an idiot and I literally can't get into my phone at all now. All fastboot commands fail and I can't reboot into recovery either because it just says "your device is corrupt" every single time. I contacted oneplus support multiple times and they told me "we don't have anything available yet to help you, so you can just return it to us." Huge waste of time speaking to all those useless reps and I'm definitely not going to buy another oneplus product again. It's actually ridiculous that they don't just provide those tools upon release, especially when this issue has PERSISTED across all of their devices. I still have the phone for now, so if anyone finds a useful Oneplus rep who actually has the tools, or if someone figures out how to fix this issue, please let me know.

1. If you do your research before just throwing fastboot commands you would have read that others on here have done the same, so do your homework.
2. If it's ridiculous that they don't just provide those tools upon release, especially when the issue has PERSISTED across all of their devices, then why run fastboot oem lock?
Everyone is always so quick to blame OEMs but not their own poor decision making. Take responsibility for your own actions even if you run them in cmd prompt.

Thank you for your reply. This is my first time owning a OnePlus device, so I hadn't looked at anything at on any of the community forums about it except how to root it and install magisk.
My last device was a razer phone 2, which had similar steps towards rooting it, and I actually did use "fastboot flashing lock_critical" to re-lock the bootloader after unlocking it, so I assumed that it would be the same for the oneplus, which in hindsight, obviously I was wrong.
But even if that was a minor screw up, I can't access the device at all, and that's what's bugging me. I do frequent backups, so having an option to erase all my data wouldn't be an issue if that was given, but not having that option at all and then bring told by OnePlus that the only option is to return it is absurd. I appreciate your feedback towards what I said, and if you are a OnePlus employee then I'm still standing by what I said and calling all of the 'support' I received useless, as it was just a waste of time and didn't lead to any sort of fix

LOL if I was a OP employee I would be helping out with the MSM tool! I cannot tell you the last device I rooted and installed ROMs on as its probably been close to 5 years and I see many things have changed. This is my first OP device since the original OP. I'll have my bin tonight but I am 99% sure I am going to wait for the MSM tool to come out whenever and do the international conversion that way. I hope you get everything sorted out!

Bashing OP support reps here is uncalled for. A rep can't help you because the method of trying to do what you want wasn't built into the software. Not the reps fault they can''t fix that they didn't build the software. Also OEM unlocking, rooting, flashing ROMs isn't covered by any type of warranty or support. So you better be thankful they are letting you send it in. If you choose to root, mod, or install software it's at your own risk.

As far as I know, what we have is for the GM21AA for 9.5.3.
I think I saw one for the T-Mobile variant here as well, just haven't paid much attention there because I have AA model personally.
Not too sure about GM21BA either, someone add info for that here if you want.

Bootloader weirdness

I couldn't find absolutely any information about this anywhere so heck, I'm gonna just post this hoping someone has a clue about it. There was only one other person asking about it in September last year for another pixel phone, but he didn't get an answer either.
So the issue. After using the online flashing tool provided by Google for flashing AOSP builds, the bootloader shows 2 additional lines at the bottom. I've never seen them before and now even after factory resetting, either via flashing the factory image or sideloading the OTA, switching slots and flashing to factory image on both slots, locking back the bootloader, those 2 options are still there. No negative effects on the usage of the phone as I'm using it as I've been doing since I got it, but those 2 friggin options are still there and it's bugging the hell out of me.
If someone has a clue, please do share. I'd really appreciate it.

I remember seeing that post. I've never used the flash method, always downloaded the link and used fastboot. This has to have happened to more than the two of you. I wonder if it's isolated to the Pixel 5?

I actually saw the same thing on a Pixel 4's bootloader. It's really weird. It seems to be hardcoded or something cause not going away no matter the flashing method, slot switching and so on.
Strangely my P5 doesn't have those two additional options. For the first time ever I used the online flash tool to wipe and fresh install last month's update (Feb 2021), this past Saturday. But yeah my screen looks the same as always.
Hopefully those two options that some are seeing don't mean something ominous going forward, like Google taking away our options for unlocked bootloaders.
Thought I'd add my experience, I'm glad to know about this.

Question TWRP?

Do we know if anyone is working on twrp for this device? This is first time in many years i have a phone before all these things were available.
Not being pushy but from the look of things on twrp website not always automatic that they will work on it.
It will take some time to get it. Be careful with risky experiments before it is available. Nobody can tell you a clear time when it will be there. People are bricking their devices because they are not careful.

Still isn't a working version for the op8. I'm not holding my breath. I'm leaving well enough alone with root. No msm tools yet and that will leave a bunch on new devices in a bad way if people keep proceeding with trying to flash.

Oh didn't know 8 didn't have one, came from 7 pro. Geez guess that answers that. I looked but seems above my skill set and i wouldn't be able to support if i somehow got it working.
Not even one for the 7 Pro on Android 11. I flashed it after upgrading and got stuck in a crazy boot loop. Had a lot of fun getting it back. Fortunately, I was able to use a stock boot image to boot then pull all my data off. Then had to MSM it to get it back to normal.
It was not a fun night.
I trade mine in just before 11 got released. Never did beta. Didn't trust it

Question TWRP Development!

Is there any TWRP development coming to is phone?? Feel like it's gone back to galaxy s one days before twrp was invented. What the wtf, we going backwards?
Was given the impression the pixel 7 pro was the bees nees of dev but feels like a phone in chains. Do I need to carry a laptop around to flash a ROM . Wtf!
the s23 ultra has an unofficial twrp build already and the pixel 7 pro nadda.
I feel I want to return this and get something that actually has possibilities. This is ****. I want to play with different roms they look good but with the trouble of not being able to flash on the fly, flash majisk, I have no interest in flashing these days, seems to trouble some. Pixels feels like they are just in locks and chains. Not happy so far at all with this phone.
I'm currently on calyx os and if I flash magisk from a computer I can't take the OTA, where if I had TWRP recovery I can just flash OTA or file.zip and the majisk and done. Feel like this phone is a step backwards. That do you think?
Just thought I'd ramble on a bit about my upsets. No pun intended. But to thoughs who made this harder
There just haven't been a need for TWRP as of now, since you can/need to do most things via a computer and a cable. Factory images updates for example, cannot be flashed via TWRP.
Other ROMs such as LOS or Evox has their own recovery implementation. Which is incompatible as well

I might be wrong but the s23 series is probably the last who will get twrp too.
I think twrp on a/b devices is not a big thing and google forces any device released with android13 to be an a/b device.
And TWRP is generally of little use on Pixel devices, which do not have a recovery partition. Since the bootloaders are easily unlocked and accept flashing commands, firmware can be flashed via ADB.

What you mean not a big thing? What? bootloaders unlocked. Every mainstream phone has bootloader's to unlock. There are many ab devices with twrp.?
In a few years it seems flashing a ROM will be a thing of the past. Google android is sailing the way to an island with no food. Android is dead. I think i'll have to go back to my op5t for the full fruits of life. There is no life here.

For The Win as opposed to the other option, I'd guess... Using that old thing called Google. Before getting a new device I always have a quick check on XDA as to what kind of support/ROM etc development is being done. Only takes a moment, just like the search I did for you. No need to rant, just change your device then. Job done!
It's really a backwards for Google without TWRP's support. Very Badly.

Yeah, as I mention on a few posts above. If you read properly which only takes a moment, i didn't have time to do a full examination on this phone. But I did a brief one and thought it may come to it's senses down the line like all the other phones I ever owned. But Nuh doesn't look like this one is going anywhere in terms of twrp recovery. Or any recovery that helps the user flash on the fly.
I will rant on about it, that's why I created this thread so we can rant. If you not happy to rant don't rant. Lol

Yeah, sad and restricting. Don't know how anyone can think this is a step in the right direction, really.
Tinkering with your phone without having a proper Nandroid backup is a no go, for me.
So far this phone is not what I expected it to be. Came from a OnePlus 7 Pro. Is it smoother? Probably, can't really notice. It is faster in regular use? Well no. Are the cameras better? Sure. Can I really play with it like you should be able to on a rooted phone without any fears of losing hours and hours of time? No, 'cause no TWRP/Nandroid.
Real shame.

According to TWRP website, "is done by roughly 4 people at this point." For all other phones and everything else, they depend on volunteer "maintainers" as "We can’t afford to buy every device made" (source: their website About & FAQs). So if you wish to learn to become a "maintainer" to bring it to the P7P, or commission an expert to voluntarily "port" it to this device....
This is how TWRP comes to devices. It's not like Google pays them, or anyone pays them to get it on devices, so ranting and demanding it with that expectation is unfounded. Also, it's well established that they have been having issues/problems with the next version of Android each time -- starting from the Pixel 5 when it moved from Android 10 to 11, then by the time they got it working for Android 11, Android 12 was released and they weren't able to get it working for that, and by the the time they were "beta" able to get it working for Android 12, Android 13 released and they are not able to keep up.

I do truly miss & regret not having Nandroid backups anymore! It truly was a pure, whole snapshot of your whole setup where, if anything happened, you restore it from there and ABSOLUTELY everything was restored like the second you backed it up...! Nothing now compares....
RIP TWRP you're always missed.
Thankfully Pixel Flasher "kind of" seem to be more and more like TWRP but on the computer. A/B really killed TWRP hard.
Really, after my OnePlus with its quirks and requirements, the 7P seems like a breeze to flash and root...

Yeah dude, I did read the thread... Seriously, you bought a pretty expensive device without taking just 2-5 mins to check up briefly about the device. Rant away my friend, rant away. Doesn't bother me, just sharing my 2 cents!!
