Verizon vs. Tmobile Internet

I was yesterday at a mall here in central Florida and I was curious about verizons internet speed, as they advertise to have the fastest one available. So I started playing with a Motorola Q9 and ran a bandwidth test on the mobile phone over at:
http://text.dslreports.com/mspeed?jisok=1
The Moto on Verizon ran the Mobile Speed test at 132kbit/sec, my Dash on WM6.1 from the same location ran a 122kbit/sec. I was surpirsed and asked the sales guy about the slow speed. He explained that we didn't have great service here in the Mall, which in my opinion is BS.
What are the speeds supposed to be for verizon on a WM device? Why are they charging so much anyways?
I heared that Sprint is going with SIM capable phones in the future. Maybe that is an avenue.
I'm just looking for a phone/provider where I can get faster Internet Speeds. T-mobile is just a little too slow for my taste and my dash doesn't do 3G anyways, but I would love to see something faster one way or another by the end of this year. Maybe even a WM7 phone. Let's hope!
Here are the stats:
100kb 1MB
Verizon: 132kbit/sec 188kbit/sec
T-Mobile: 122kbit/sec 147kbit/sec
Verizon is faster but not as expected.
Anyone got stats for AT&T and Sprint by any chance?
tmobile is just getting 3g
Sprint already had sim capable phones but would be sim locked to US carriers
att is cool
and in my opinion i would stick with GSM(att, tmobile) only because pretty much everywhere you go in the world there is GSM, so you could get other GSM phones
CDMA is going into a dead end(maybe sprint will be smart and add GSM)
go with at&t for their 3g or wait for tmobile to fully turn on their 3g(but they have a oddball 3g[1700mhz/2100mhz])
as for verizon and sprint i think its expensive and i hated their customer service so thats why i went with tmobile
Yeah, I had Sprint and Cingular back in the day and the customer service was horrible. I'm with T-Mobile since 2002 and it seems like it starts to get borring, but with their 3G on the horizon (In Orlando it may take a while) I might get into it just in time for the WM7 release.
There is a company in England who already announced a WM7 device by the end of this year. Let's see what happens, it getting exciting.

very strange reception problem

hey everyone,
i switched to at&t from t-mobile about 3 months ago. i had the motorola q9h and for the first month my service was literally INCREDIBLE. i would get full 3g service everywhere, even elevators.
then all of a sudden it dropped off after a month. and i got full 3g only when outside and one or two bars in any building at best. at&t said it was my phone, and i was looking to upgrade so i bought the fuze (had tilt before) and its a great phone but my reception is still awful.
ive called tech support many times and they havent told me anything conclusive. i first activated my at&t account in chicago, then had tmobile for a bit, and this time signed up for at&t in philadelphia. i have the same issue in both areas.
anyone have an idea of what might be going on or things to try to fix this (other than a new radio) ?

How is T-mobile in New York and in general

Hi guys,
Don't blast me guys if you think this is a useless thread.
I was looking to buy the sensation for my wife but we have never had a contract with t-mobile and as such do not have any experience with them personally. In philly friends who had t-mobile weren't always happy about their signal when traveling out of town or just the fact that most people we knew were on At&t. Does T-mobile have truly unlimited data?
Anyway for a change I was looking to you guys for a review of t-mobile rather than the phone itself.
Also just to be sure if I buy it out of contract I could use AT&T sim card right?
Thanks for any replies. Much appreciated. Enjoy your phone.

I'm in NYC and Tmo's coverage here is great. I dont travel much and when I do it's usually big cities so I've never had a problem with signal. I know when I go to some more rual areas I have some issues but that's not too often.
TMO does have unlimited data BUT you get throttled to dial up speeds if you go above 2gb/5gb/10gb(depending on the plan you have)
You will be able to use your ATT sim card if you buy an unlocked sensation or have yours unlocked. But ATT uses different 3G bands as TMO so I think you would be stuck on 2G speeds
Thanks for the reply. You see I am on sprint (EVO 4G) and I love Sprint's unlimited everything plan.I don't think they do the throttling thing.
So buying it unlocked and using AT&T is a no go if it's going to be stuck on 2G speeds.

No Problem Yeah I think Verizon and Sprint are the only ones with TRUE unlimited data.
You might want to hold off then. I do think I read somewhere that a Sensation with ATT bands went through the FCC, So they might be releasing the sensation soon on ATT

Gigabit LTE with LAA enabled on USA unlocked S8+?

https://www.droid-life.com/2017/10/23/verizon-gigabit-lte-moto-z2-force/
I know the S8+ hardware supports it but is it enabled in the firmware? The Moto Z2 Force just got a software update to enable LAA on Verizon.

I have been seeing speeds between MD and VA go up to 100/30. But its been spotty. They definitely have their priority towers but without a doubt they are doing upgrades. I am hoping this new technology will help with weak spots more than I care about the speeds personally. My coverage in my home dropped during these upgrades. I have even had my S8+ ask if I wanted to make a wifi call when I lost signal all together. I live between three freaking towers. Has been better after the updates.

I am running stock Verizon S8+. It has taken the updates this week but I have been getting the 100/30 +/- for about 3-4 weeks in MD and DC, and the last week or two here in spots of Central VA. I have not rooted as I just didn't see the reason to yet, so these are straight numbers.
I tried flashing the latest S8+ VZW firmware, no change in speeds... reverting back to S8+ Unlocked until people in NYC area indicate it's live. Thanks.

I got these speeds before the most recent updates. I was under the impression though that they did have something to do with it. I have yet to see the improved speeds at home or even in my home area yet.

Tmobile merger ruined sprint. They're telling me to get a Tmobile Sim?

We all know 5G is garbage, 4G is fine and 80mb down was fine, but we bought two $1400 paperweights. I even disabled 5G and I have 2 bars and drop calls EVERYWHERE.
Sprint told me that there was an issue getting sprint people on Tmobile and that I needed to go to Tmobile and have them wipe my phone and put a Tmobile Sim.
I'm not comfortable with this but I'm pissed that I'm stuck with this ****ty service. Every time I pass a cell tower my call drops and I have no "mobile network" for miles. Sprint swears getting a Tmobile Sim will fix it but Tmobile has always been a crappy carrier and NO ONE around here has ever had it.
Is doing this a bad idea? I'm told we can't go back to sprint if they do this switch..
Thank you

Don't know where you are, but around here (southwest Missouri), Sprint has always been very spotty. I've had T-Mo for the last five years and have used it all over Oklahoma and Missouri. Ive used in in the Dallas-Fort Worth area of Texas. Chicago, Illinois. Northern Arkansas. Parts of Kentucky. Memphis and Nashville, Tennessee. Birmingham, Alabama. Orlando, Melbourne, Tamba Bay, and Clearwater, Florida. And all the roads connecting those places. And I've had great luck with T-Mobile. There's dead spots for sure, but for awhile my work phone was ATT, my personal was T-Mobile, and my hotspot was Verizon. They usually all had the same service and dead spots in the same areas.

Sprint *is* t-mobile now. If you're on sprint you're on t-mobile and the company is going to try to make them one-in-the-same moving forward. You're basically saying that you don't want a sprint/t-mobile SIM and want to stick with your sprint/t-mobile SIM. They own all the same towers now so service is the same. They likely mean just get a newer SIM with the newer 4G and 5G support, a SIM that can use *all* the tower types.... It doesn't matter if it's "t mobile" or "sprint". They are the same thing now. If you walk into a sprint store. It's a T-Mobile store. You are already on t-mobile's service, it's just with an outdated SIM that can only use older sprint towers. The new SIM also would support the newer iterations of "4G" and have better coverage. 4G or 5G doesn't matter so much as you're going to want a new sim regardless for maximum service coverage in either.

I've had T-Mobile for several years and I'm pleased with their coverage, customer service, and price.
I have sprint service and after the galaxy note 20 ultra software update, my signal had been spotty on 5g. I went to settings, then general management, then reset, then reset network setting. After I did that, my signal and internet speed has been great. Warning, you will lose all your saved wifi and Bluetooth pairings, but you can set all of them back up. It's worth it.
Time to move on to another carrier , you have plenty of choices in america ??
I read verizon was refarming their network for better coverage. But hey all carriers claim this bs anyway.

I'm glad your 5G signal gives you more than 2mg download, in West Virginia it does not. Nor does it work in Virginia, Maryland or Washington DC but 4G is flawless.
Thanks for the responses everyone. Tmobile doesn't work well in West Virginia and Sprint has always been the go to.
I feel as if I was misled. I recorded the conversation where they said "Sprint towers remain online, we will only be inheriting Tmobile towers." but all Sprint towers went offline here hence no service and only being on roam 24/7.
That night, we dropped $2800 on branded phones. I'm about to just unlock it, root it, get rid of the bloatware and hope for the best.
As of right now, I received a $300 account credit as we do not have service here and they can see on the map where it's black. I hope they get it together and are able to fix the network by the time the credit runs out. Worst case scenario a manager in corporate did agree to cancel our contracts and return the phones even though we got them on launch day. I'll have to wait and see how things pan out.
Totes sucks lol almost faster than my home internet. I have an unlocked running a sprint sim, I only seem to get tmo bands anymore very rarely do I pick up sprint bands even with a sprint airrave device nearby

I do see now when I look at the T-Mobile coverage map that there are huge black regions that I'm pretty sure weren't previously depicted. I haven't had difficulty yet myself, but I'm sorry you're without coverage.

Keeping a record of tech conversations is indeed good (online chat rather that voice works best). But even better is to never trust assurances by tech reps, because they're often not knowledgeable and may pass along rumors or made-up answers. If they tell you something important, ask politely how they know and where you can find confirmation. (That's actually a good practice when dealing with almost anyone about almost anything important.)
TMO = T hird world M obile O perations.
Even more insult to injury for us USA users as we cannot get a proper dual SIM device that will work with two carriers. I have TMO and Verizon. I've been able to use two lines from these carriers since 2018 on my iPhone XS Max. Even though Samsung claims the S20 Ultra and Note 20 Ultra have esim capability they simply don't work in this fashion.
