Is there any way to root and install a Linux based OS with a broken display - Samsung Galaxy S8+ Questions & Answers

I have an S8 that I want to run some services on. The problem is this phone has a completely broken screen. I currently have it connected to a tv with a keyboard and mouse. (Notably the touch sensitive part of the display still works). Is there any way to root and install Linux based OS with this handicap?

Possibly yes. If you manage to install custom recovery that's it. Then you can proceed with any custom OS
Hope it helps

Bluetooth linkkey location on Android 6.0 ?

Hello,
does anyone know where Android stores its Bluetooh Pairing Keys ?
On Debian these data is located in "/var/lib/bluetooth/<Device Mac/info" But on Android it seems different.
On normal Linux i can pair a Bluetooth mouse with my Windows an Linux Multiboot installation if i just change the pairing key in this file.
Now on Android i want to pair a Pokemon Go Plus with two smartphones where i can access the /system partition via TWRP.
So i want to use the Pokemon Go plus on EITHER device 1 OR device 2. I just want to get rid of resetting and repairing the plus.
I dont want to use the plus the same time on both smartphones, this will not work i think.
Greetings
Chris

Pass input from phone to pc

Hey all,
I am looking to develop an app for android that is able to take virtual button presses from an android phone and pass them to a pc (would like to support windows, linux, and MAYBE OSX). Is there currently any known method to do this, preferably via usb (to minimize input lag)? Would it require the phone to be rooted? It's no problem for me to be rooted, but I would like to release this for a game on the pc and the majority of its userbase would not be rooted, and most of them zero experience with it.
Thanks for your help!

Question Android 10 DisplayLink and Taskbar 6

Can Android 10's Desktop mode be used with a DisplayLink adapter?
More precisely:
I've read the following post about Taskbar 6:
Taskbar 6.0 enables a Samsung DeX-like desktop mode experience on some Android 10+ devices
Taskbar by farmerbb can now enable a Samsung DeX-like desktop mode experience on any Android 10+ device with support for display output.
www.xda-developers.com
And I have an LG G6 H870 (without MHL). If I were to install a custom rom based on A10: Would it be possible to use Taskbar 6? Does Taskbar 6 run with a DisplayLink enabled adapter or it's MHL only? <I was searching for something like this but everyone just uses MHL.>
Thank you for your help!
Just replying to let you know you're not the only one searching for it.
I have a Mi10 Ultra which is more than capable of running the desktop environment if it weren't for the poor choice to implement USB-C 2.0 on this device (and AFAIK current upcoming devices of Xiaomi).
I've been crawling websites for a while now to figure out if it's possible (root drivers?) to get android desktop to show up on the monitor using displaylink rather than mirroring my screen.
It's good to know that someone else is thinking about the same
Thankfully the G6 has a USB 3.0 port so transfer speeds shouldn't be a problem. In fact: DisplayLink works perfectly for mirroring my phone's display.
I would have tried it myself if I would be able to install any custom rom... I tried it once but the encryption screwed me over and I had to reinstall a factory image.
(When I formated userdata (to remove encryption) then I tried to reboot into my original OS to see if everything is still all right, but I wasn't able to. Upon bootup I had only the option to "factory reset" my device. This option lead me back to the TWRP recovery. At this point I couldn't do anything because the option "wipe data/factory reset" didn't change my situation, and my G6 always booted into recovery mode. I know this is another topic but everyone else succeded with their custom rom installion... Also: I owned a G3, and had multiple roms on it without issues.)
Also: Would it yield more information if I were to ask DisplayLink Presenter's (the app's) developers about Android's Desktop mode?

How can I enable screen mirroring on a broken Galaxy A12?

So a few days ago I cracked my phone screen when it went in-between the couch. The phone was rooted and I believe had TWRP installed. I tried a few screen mirroring apps on my laptop but they all required me to enable USB debugging which is impossible given the fact that most of the touch capabilities of the screen are gone.
Someone suggested on Reddit I could use scrypy. I have it installed but not sure what to do. Could someone help me please?
SCRCPY only works on devices with Android where ADB (read: USB-Debugging ) is enabled.

One half of the screen does not work the touch screen

Hello everyone, I have been reading and respecting you for a long time.
They gave me a Mediacom tablet with Android to repair or throw away as a favor, I'm not asking for money and I'm not a professional, just self-taught. It basically had half the screen where the touch screen didn't work, so in addition to trying with the "pizoelectric" lighter as seen on youtube and various apps, I decided to try replacing the touch screen as well. Once done, the problem remained as it was. I tried to do the factory reset and now I'm stuck in the installation because I can't click on the buttons to finish the installation. I used to at least rotate the screen and run it on the good half. But now I'm stuck in the installation. I also tried to take a usb dongle to attach a mouse to it, but it doesn't see it, also tried on the smartphone, but it doesn't see it anyway. 1. Confirmed that it is not damage to the touch screen. Can I finish installation via adb shell? What do you think is the problem? is it software? Any advice is greatly appreciated.
Thank you
It's hard to advise anything without writing the model name of the device. Adb host will not work when it is not enabled in the device.

The model is smarpad iyo 10, but I doubt it serves as information, since it is probably an Android 9 problem. I thought it was possible at boot to enable a shell and complete the installation or maybe rotate the screen.
Thank you for answering.
The Rockchip A55 RK3566 processor in the Mediacom IYO 10, supports USB OTG, so a mouse connected to an OTG adapter should work.
Which adapter did you use?
The touch screen for the Mediacom IYO 10 is not outstandingly complicated and has no chipset in it. So the touch is controlled by the mother or daughter board electronics, which you probably did not replace when you replaced the screen.

The Otg adapter is from Tek-one to-g-15, it may be that it doesn't work, in fact it doesn't work on the mobile either, I try to change it.
As you said, the touch had no chip, just a connector to the motherboard.
An information that I have omitted may be useful, at the beginning the tablet also had another problem, in some circumstances that I have not explored, the screen or the resolution was resized in half, presumably in the working half. Almost immediately the scaling issue was fixed by randomly activating a gui option in hidden developer mode.
Now, excluding the Otg that I'm going to change, do I have any possibility of continuing the installation via shell?
Thanks for the precious information.
You probably don't have TWRP so you won't do anything with the build.prop file.
The lack of a shell is the result of not enabling debugging in the developer options, available only after starting android.
Look for a working OTG adapter.
Maybe this thread will help you.
