Just curious if there is a way to get the t-mobile feature of wifi calling on phones which are not running the stock t-mobile rom? I have a phone in canada that uses a US sim for when we send drivers to the states for deliveries (transportation company) but the phone is from canada.
Can this be achieved? Is there maybe a successful app that can do this?

Nope. Many have tried, all have failed. It was possible until T-mobile changed the APK when ICS was released.
How did the APK affect everything? Did they add some special code that makes it not function properly?
So would changing the rom from lets AT&T to T-mobile or from Rogers to T-mobile, would the feature be successfully unlocked?

I don't know the specifics, but it is built into the framework of the ROM. Yes, changing the ROM on another network's device to a T-mobile ROM will allow you to use the Wi-Fi calling feature.

The first requisite is that you're using a T-Mobile SIM, because the SIM has an internal authentication method that interfaces with the internal Wifi Calling app. You can't use any other carrier's ROM/Wifi Calling (e.g. Rogers' Wifi Calling) with a T-Mobile SIM, even if both carriers use Wifi Calling.
The second requisite is that the carrier actually supports Wifi Calling. It requires specific Kineto servers on their end.
Thirdly, you can flash a T-Mobile ROM on, say an AT&T phone (I've done this with an AT&T S4) if the phone can handle it, and that will "enable" (because it'll technically become a T-Mobile phone) Wifi Calling.
Fourthly, Wifi Calling is more than just an APK. Previously, it used UMA; that meant that the phone sent normal GSM signal over Wifi instead of through it's cellular radio. Now it uses a proprietary SIP (completely internet-based) protocol that nobody has been able to port to other ROMs. It's extremely embedded into the software framework of the phone.
So pretty much if you want to be able to use T-Mobile Wifi Calling, you need a T-Mobile phone or a T-Mobile ROM. The good news is that T-Mobile phones are fully compatible with all carriers in the US & Canada. They have all the required frequencies for every carrier. I have family up in Canada, so I'm familiar with all the Canadian carriers and what bands they operate on. Or like I said, you can flash your phones (depending on the phone, if T-Mobile also has it) with a T-Mobile ROM.
By the way, calling to Canada would still cost you with a normal T-Mobile plan. It's considered long-distance from a US perspective. There are apps you can use to make phone calls to land lines over Wifi, like Skype (if you pay). You could also use free apps that allow you to make calls to other people using the app (like Viber, which also does free messaging similar to Whatsapp and has a desktop app).
You would also need the right SIM card. Not all T-Mobile SIM cards support Wi-Fi calling.

Considering he said his sim was from the US, I think it is safe to assume that it is not a Canadian sim, and most likely T-mobile.
Uggg, this XDA app is terrible, I can't even edit posts. Anyways, how do I know what SIM card this person has? They didn't say, but even if we assume it's T-Mobile that's no guarantee it will work.

Glad to know that there are a few people here that know about the canadian phones. I just found the t-mobile rom so I am going to try and flash it via odin on my canadian phone.
And for the record so it doesn't confuse other XDA members, its a T-mobile sim and one of their more recent micro sims.
Don't ODIN another model's ROM. Stock ROM files include a modem. If you flash another model's modem, you will lose your IMEI. You need to root the phone and install a custom recovery so you can flash the ROM without the modem.
Pretty much all of their SIMs from the last two years will work. So that's not an issue. Like I said though, Wifi Calling simulates being you in the US. For example, I visit my grandparents in Ottawa. I use their Wifi to make Wifi Calls on my Galaxy Note 3. The calls are made as if I'm in the US. Meaning if I used Wifi Calling to call one of my friends who lives in the US, it counts as a domestic call. But if I call my grandparents' house phone, it'll be long distance, the same as if I were in the US making the call to Canada.
If you're trying to save money on calls, this won't work since you'll still be calling Canada long distance.

Glad I caught this. I didn't think this would actually have such a possible outcome.

Which phone is it?
It's probably easier to go with a custom T-Mobile ROM from here on XDA since you won't be taking official updates anyway.
N900w8 - telus carrier.
EDIT: judging by the second statement, the custom roms aren't exactly AOSP based if one would still want to acquire such a feature.

The Canadian Note 3 is actually equivalent to the T-Mobile Note 3 (same frequencies). You can flash a T-Mobile Note 3 custom ROM from here (just don't flash any modems). Get one that is Touchwiz based. NB4-based ROMs (Android 4.4.2) are the latest. Vision NX3 is one that I use and is a minimally-tweaked stock based ROM (it includes some T-Mobile bloat, but that can be removed with root apps like Titanium Backup).
Would it be possible to flash a stock T-Mobile rom to at&t lg g4 I can skip the modem flash, I know that's a bad idea.
Bought 955FD myself here in saudi.
Followed instructions to make "cumulative 5 minute call" with middle east/north africa sim: regional unlock.
1st issue: wifi calling available?
Searched settings for wifi calling. Initially something pops up, such as an option but it asked for ?phone number? I dont recall, was too excited about getting ready to pop in sprint sim from edge6.
During this search i was waiting for smart switch to execute bringing files from edge6.
When its all done i see nothing about wifi calling on 955FD.
2nd issue: activating 955FD to Sprint network.
Called Sprint, they asked for HEX gave them the IMEI number, then informed phone is not compatible.
They informed me i could go into sprint store and have them flash the device to place it on sprint's system. But that didnt sound confident. The phone is not compatible but can be flashed.
I was told once before by sprint international they have special sims to be used on foreign devices. But after failed activation informed me the international sim would not work either. I am never satisfied with first tier help/information from sprint.
I am open any advice. Last hope is to switch to TMobile which i read in another xda forum it will work. But i am concerned about the wifi calling mainly.
If you're rooted, then flash the CSC selector and select TMB. It will bring you wifi calling and Volte in TMOBILE, Not sure Exynos model will support Sprint CDMA..

As SBR said above, Exynos does not support CDMA. Sprint is CDMA. Your rep was correct.

No. The Exynos chip does not support CDMA. That is only in the Qualcom chip. The problem lies in your CPU, not software.
You have two different types of cellular networks, CDMA and GSM. Sprint and Verizon use CDMA while everyone else (in the world) uses GSM.
Kind of just an FYI, in which case your phone will work on T-Mobile, but not sure about the extra steps with WiFi calling (though, if it's on these forums, then you should be set there too).
Will update about wifi calling feature after I speak to Mobile in few weeks upon returning to stattes.

After signing up with Tmobile i am 99% all good. Only problem is no wifi calling feature has appeared.

WiFi calling on TMobile requires the TMobile firmware (which isn't available on the 955FD model, obviously).
Even unlocked US phones from Samsung can't use WiFi calling on TMobile unless they flash TMobile firmware.
You cannot flash the TMobile firmware on your device.

So my only option is to use DIGITS app by tmobile. Not bad but overall happy with my choice to buy this model...so far.
Got my AT&T variant today. Doesn't look like eSIM funcationality is enabled. Second IMEI and eSIM shown but greyed out and no way to activate. Is this true? If so, does anyone know if unlocked version allows for eSIM use so you can get dual sim? I need dual SIM for both US (AT&T) and international travel (Singapore).

well that's a bummer. Hopefully someone will come up with some firmware or we'll see a country release the 4G version of the phone that will work in the US and support dual SIM. I do, however, use wifi calling a lot and right now the iPhone seems to be the only choice that can be AT&T wifi calling compatible and dual sim.

Pixel 4/4XL unlocked versions (as well as bought thru AT&T) will do Wi-Fi calling and HD Voice on AT&T (sometimes requires a little work on your part to bug AT&T).
Also, I cannot find anyway to do Wi-Fi calling on the Flip, let alone HD Voice, though it is perfectly clear with calls I have made so far.
I bought the ATT version of the flip so getting wifi calling. I didn’t think Pixel 4 was dual sim? Before various bans, I had decent luck getting HD voice on Huwawei phones but never WiFi calling unless ATT firmware (or iPhone)

Typical AT&T treatment of BYOD with regards to Wi-Fi.
Pixel 4's are physical SIM and eSIM.
Basically you can (if you find a tech who can/will) provision the account with an IMEI that supports those features, and your SIM is current, it will/should work. My 4XL is currently set up like this (and previous Pixels as well).
Thx didn’t know about the pixel 4 - I did the same thing with IMEI numbers. I bought a cheap galaxy phone from ATT for the sole purpose of having an IMEI that shows ATT. It won’t help WiFi calling which needs firmware support but has consistently gotten HD voice to work. Hopefully a different variant of the flip will show up with dual sim support that can be used on the ATT network

Slightly off topic, but if you have a minute, could you post where the setting(s) for Wi-Fi calling actually are (if there is any), I'm curious to see if they are on mine (I can't find any as of yet).

It gave me the option to setup when I ran. Y hone setup. It’s all under connections in setting or you can search setting for WiFi calling. I believe this is only available with the ATT firmware

I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something obvious, and yes, seems its only on AT&T branded device(s).
On the unlocked version, I was able to access the hidden SIM manager menu using Activity Launcher and enable the second SIM. However, even after doing so, it doesn't seem that I can do much with it.
I saw same you can see it but it's not really enabling it (under about phone, esim is still greyed out). I bought a European Version of the phone that is supposed to have dual sim enabled and is arriving tomorrow - I will report back if I can add my AT&T plan to the eSIM and use my SG SIM card on the second line and how it works. Even if I get that to work, i will have to give up wifi calling (since not an AT&T variant of the phone) and usually - Samsung pay doesn't work (but usually google pay does). i will report back. Love the phone but without the ability to use 2 SIMs, it will sadly be doing back.

I thought that the Wi-Fi calling piece was becoming more universally supported, regardless of variant. I have the unlocked version and Verizon Wi-Fi calling (and HD calling) are both working.
Hi, I got one in Czech Republic and the dual sim (eSim/normal Sim) dual standby. the setting for eSIM are under Connections>>Sim card Manager, there should be a section with eSIMS and you select 'add mobile plan' (in CZ you scan the barcode of the eSIM thats provided by the operator). Wifi calling is in the phone app under call settings and can be activated for both sim 1 and sim 2 at the same time

I scanned the QR code and get the message "Your mobile plan is already being used on another device. For more information, contact your service provider.: I called AT&T and advanced tech support added the new IMEI's(both physical and eSIM) to that number on their end but still getting the error. They were at a loss for a solution. Any ideas on how to fix this? Really love the phone though useless to me without the ability to use an eSIM for my AT&T number.
BTW, yes to calls over LTE (VoLTE) with AT&T SIM on UK variant of the phone and, not surprisingly, no joy on Wifi Calling
You need a new QR code from ATT. If you are using an older QR code it wont work.
Are both SIMs 3G capable?

I gonna buy the UK model and so I can use both my personal and company numbers on one phone.
My company's number is nano sim and the supports 3G and 4G
My personal number is esim and supports 3G and 4G
Neither my personal nor company number network support 2G.
I read somewhere that while Z Flip is dual sim, one of the sims only support 2G. is that right? Can anyone confirm it?
went to AT&T store, moved my old esim (galaxy fold) to a physical sim, activated and tested on physical SIM then converted it again to eSIM (new QR code). Worked! Had trouble going from eSIM to eSIM but converting to physical SIM in the middle of the process (something I read on another forum) fixed it.

Hardware should be no difference. Radio bands should be the same. Software is different. The unlocked comes without carrier bloatware.
That is correct. The software is the only difference. I had the Samsung Note 10+ unlocked on AT&T. I couldn't get WiFi call or HD voice. This time I went the Note 20 Ultra AT&T version. Not a big deal. I just remove the bloatware from the phone using ADB. You can find articles on how to do it.
Weird that I was told by VZW that I couldn't wifi call on the unlocked version. But I can.
I had the U1 version on ATT. Worked great. Some menus missing, such as ability to choose VOLTE butncall quality was great. Has to call ATT to change to a 5g plan for 5g.
By the unlocked version, are you referring to the SM-N986B/DS? I am researching as well and I am on the AT&T network.

I had a U1 N10+ and as someone else mentioned, no wifi calling or HD Voice (VOLTE). Even flashing the U firmware. ATT typically has to Whitelist your phone to unlock those features. Running the U would unlock Video Calling (useless unless the other person is also on ATT) and Advanced Messaging (also an ATT only service). The day I got my N20Ultra, I popped my ATT activated sim, and no VOLTE / HD voice, and no wifi calling. Being on U1, the rest of the features weren't available (video calling, advanced messaging, vvm) which isn't surprising since it's debranded.
In another thread, it showed that Factory Unlocked N20Ultra will have HD Voice hut NOT wifi calling. That's fairly new, so YMMV. Saw the post earlier this week. Not sure it's it's live already or in the works. Some phones had support for WiFi calling and HD Voice, but the N20 series were showing only HD Voice at time of article.
I've since dumped att for Metro (Tmobile) for a few reasons, but primarily their reluctance for fully support a factory unlocked device. They are making a step in the right direction, but honestly, VOLTE and WiFi Calling should be standard features supported. Like why wouldn't you want me to call on wifi instead of clogging the wireless towers? Both work OOTB with Tmobile.
Edit: If you have no plans to switch carriers, I'd get it through att. Even if you run U1 for now, you can change your mind later and know all the features will work on U. I spoke to AT&T for hours and they whitelisted my international Note20 Ultra IMEI. I still don't have Wi-Fi calling and they absolutely don't know why... I regret switching from T-Mobile to AT&T... but unfortunately have to stay with AT&T for 2 more years because of iPhone deals we got...
Guys, all you have to do is flash the U Home CSC for and you'll have all the features on ATT and still have U1 firmware on your U1 device. At least for me on this phone and two previous, the Samsung devices were already "whitelisted" with ATT

No. If you're on the AT&T version, stay there.
I can't believe AT&T would whitelist all Samsung Unlocked devices, that would really surprise me. You can buy AT&T locked Galaxy phone and unlock it with AT&T since you bought it outright, and then of course it would be whitelisted.

They cannot. Att and att based subsidized carriers. Do not allow byod on votle or wifi calling. I have a trick to make it work for a couple hours. So I know its possible. But after a few hours their systems reprovision your device and shut them back off.

Yea. If you provision volte and wifi on a actual att phone and sim swap they work for a while. Usually around 4 or 5 am. Then it shuts off and never works again. Till sim swap and reprovision
VoLTE on unlocked Samsung S20 and Note20 series phones is set to "on" by default, but unchangeable (greyed out). As of right now, there is no ability to select WiFi calling until Samsung decides to grace those of us with unlocked phones that ability.

Any authoritative answer as to whether WiFi Calling (and Voice Over LTE) can be enabled on AT&T with a Factory Unlocked Note 20 Ultra? Or authoritative assurance it will, soon?

There is a long term method but it involves calling att, and getting your IMEI registered so you can get VOLTE and wifi calling. Ask customer service. I can't remember the name of the department you need to request. It takes a couple of weeks and then you suddenly get a weird sms (something like IMEI provisioned) and then it works. Did it on note 9.
Pardon my noobness, I will explain this to the best of my abilities
AT&T told me that my current phone Samsung S8+ will not work on their network (international dual sim unlocked version). They said that it is because "the 3G will shut off" but this phone is clearly a 4G phone. To be more specific, my device is a SM-G955FD. They sent me a replacement phone which is less than crappy and said my current sim will be deactivated soon.
I have already rooted (and ROM'ed) my phone - and I know you can change device identity/fingerprint using build props. I want to mask my phone as a SM-G955FU which is the USA unlocked version. At this point, I'd like to know if this could make a difference and make my phone not be deactivated by fooling their system, or if there are other things to try.

I don't think they query device's brand / model property as stored in Android's build.prop file because these characteristics at any time can get changed by user.
The speed of data access relies on two things: your phone and your service provider. Every phone has a radio module that is responsible for talking to the network. It is this piece of hardware that either can or can not use latest communication technologies: if the phone does not support 4G, you will not get that speed whatever you try.

The same thing happened to me today, woke up to a sim not registered message and no cell service (voice, sms or data).
I went to the store and they said my unlocked Moto G7 Power (XT1955-2) is not supported/compatible on ATT's network. I re-checked the phone's specs and it supports 4G LTE on bands 12 and 17 on 1900 Mhz which overlaps the data I found for ATT's network. I'm not well versed in this stuff tho. Perhaps it's a local towers thing and I am in an area where their towers are operating on the other ATT frequencies (1700, 700)? The guy at the store did something (I forget the exact details) and I do have voice back, but that is it, no data or SMS. He also mentioned that ATT is like cracking down on what kind of devices can connect. If ATT is blocking my device tho I'm curious, how is it possible? I guess they can lookup my device via the IMEI and then see if it's on their approve list of devices?
I don't understand their problem. Your phone model is listed as supported as long as you update your software to enable WiFi calling (VoLTE). Come 2/2022, you phone must either be 5G or VoLTE calling enabled to be supported. My Xiaomi Mi Mix 2s shows that it can do VoLTE under the sim card details in Settings and supports 13 LTE bands, including AT&T's bands. It should continue to work on their network after 2/2022.
Yet AT&T repeatedly disabled my phone. I had to tell them to re-activate my phone multiple times. I have tried some new phones. Turned out everytime I pulled the sim out to try a new phone and stick it back in my old phone, AT&T would check the phone's IMEI again and would disable the phone. On the 5th call with them, they put in a code/note in their system to mark my IMEI (be ware each sim tray has its own IMEI) not to be disabled until Fed 2022. I have since tried Surface Duo which on this list and decided not to keep it. Stuck the sim card back in my old phone specific sim tray and it continues to work.
Call them to re-activate/keep your phone active until Fed 2022. They have no rights to disable your phone before then.
Most A&T reps understand less than us on the reason to disable our phone. They jsut keep saying 3G phones will be disabled but our phoens are clearly LTE. VoLTE is one real reason of the problem but them our phones support VoLTE anyway. I am tired of arguing with them and am looking at a Note 10 now. But your situation got me concerned. Sounds like they may not honor the supported list which is updated frequently. I downloaded the June version of the list which is largely the same as yours and asked them how long they would support the phones on the list. They couldn't/wouldn't commit. Even on the phones they sell at their website, they would only give a vague promise to support them for "quite a while".
AT&T has always advertized BYOP. We spent big money on nice phones that are compatible with their network. And now the want to shut us out.
