Question Buying an S23+ - Samsung Galaxy S23 Plus

So just like last year where I was recommended to get an S22+ over the S22 because of various reasons (primarily because of better battery life), is this going to be true for the S23+ as well?
And where would the S23+ be cheapest? Directly on Samsung.com? Are there any better deals than the one in the website? Currently, I can get the 512GB variant for $999 from the site.

Also, does the US variant come with one physical SIM slot and one eSIM only? Where can I get the variant that has 2 physical SIMs plus 1 eSIM?

Anyone?

Battery life is going to be better on the Plus modell yes because it has a bigger battery just like last year. However the smaller regular S23 might have decent battery life this year because of the very efficient processor. But the Plus is going to be better for battery anyway. I have the Plus modell and battery is excellent so far. I'm in Europe and it has one physical SIM.

Got it. Do you know the 5G frequency bands for the US factory unlocked variant?

Sorry no idea.
Also sorry I was wrong my modell has two physical SIM's when checking again. It has a slot on the opposite side of the tray also. Didn't notice that at first.

How much SOT did you get?

When I first started it yesterday it had 51% and at 31% I had 1h 53m SOT. That's with app installs and first time setup however pretty low screen brightness. Dark in Sweden most of the days now at winter. Now morning next day woke up fully charged. 93% battery now and 1h 20m SOT but also low brightness.

Nice to know. Battery life seem good. I am torn between get a s23 plus or and s23u, idk if i really need a pen.... Camera is not my really important point

I also chose between the two but decided for +. I have no need for 10x or the 200mp sensor which I doubt make that much of a difference as a whole. I also think the + is a much nicer looking phone with the flat screen.

Good to know. I guess I have no choice but to buy the phone locally (Philippines).

Battery is fabulous.
With my S22+ I did 4h SOT.
I received my S23+ yesterday and I have 4h29 SOT and 52% battery left.
Wow! what a huge upgrade.
No debloat, all on except 5G.

Is any debloat possible? this forum is pretty much dead. Is it real that system takes so much space due to double system and apps?

Post your Battery life!!!

I know this is early but i wanna see whats the battery life for people before i pull the trigger.
We need to know the Processor and Carrier so please SPECIFY!!!
WOW, a bit too early to start the collective paranoia of this thread. How soon until some guy posts 24hr SOT achieved under stupid conditions.

Do you have a link to this reviewers webiste/results?
I saw some more info about this in another thread about this guy doing a general usage test and seeing the results on the battery. Apparently this guy(mentioned above) was using a lot of various apps and hitting the phone pretty hard. At the end of the day he had done 5hrs of Screen On Time and still had 11% battery left. This was with the Edge.
http://www.andreagaleazzi.com/2016/02/samsung-galaxy-s7-test-live-batteria.html
About 15hrs+ of heavyish usage. 4hr 51mins of Screen On Time. Over 2hrs of talk time. 11% left. Not bad at all!

Yes ! Exactly Andrea Galeazzi ! I have only seen the reply now ...
Today or tomorrow he will post a full review on his site ... But only in Italian !
At the end ... 5hr 25mins of Screen Time with 2% Left ... Very Good Result !!
I am cuirous to know as well as I am tired of 2-3 hours of SOT and less then 8 hours of standby. Stopped by a Best Buy that had a Samsung rep with the phone already that he let me play with. In his battery settings it should standby for 2.5 days and SOT of just over 11 hours. To me this seems unreal and the battery graph had sharp spike from 100 to 0 and was for the most part empty.
I'm very curious to see the differences between the Exynos and the Snapdragon versions. Last year's SD 810 was a disaster when it came to battery life.
On my Note 5 get about 36 hrs and 5 hrs SOT. With the Edge 7 and the beefy 3600 mha battery I'm expecting 48 hrs and about 6-7 SOT.
Battery life always sucks the first several days.

Over a day standby and 3 hour SOT? Not bad. Though, could be a tad better all things considered. Is that the Snapdragon S7 Edge?

1 day standby with 3 hours SOT and % left is quite pathetic imho...I bought an LG G3 as temporary device (sold my S4, pre-orderd s7 edge gold) and it's doing at least 6 SOT. Depending on my usage, I can stretch it to 9.5 SOT over 2 full days!
Right now my LG G3 has been for 2 days and 28min on the battery (after full charge) and it still has 9% battery left, with 8h41min SOT...and 1h19min of phonecalling.
I am still hoping that the S7 Edge won't be lackluster when using it on low-brightness (just as I do on the G3). G3 on auto-brightness only does ~4.5 - 5.5 SOT on a full day. I use my phone too much so it dies usually at midnight.

You're comparing a (very likely ) modded LG G3 with some custom ROM to a stock ROM that he only had for 1-2 days and haven't had time to settle in yet.
And just so you know, when the LG G3 first came out it didn't fare too well in battery life review. So it's definitely not the battery life king that you claim it to be without some heavy hand modding done to it to have it squeeze the amount of SOT you claim.
It's funny how people always pull the my phone can pull a 8 hr SOT blah blah blah.
Aslong as it gets me through a days heavy usage I'll be happy I'm more than happy to have to charge it daily just want to be able to get through a day at work . Checking facebook , internet watching football on a saturday and I'll be happy

How much SOT you usually get on a single charge?
Around 5 hours. Sometimes closer to 6, although I am a light user with not many apps installed. No FB, snapchat, Instagram etc. Just calls, texts and casual browsing really.
Well that went well..
5 hours? I get 3 if I'm lucky. and by the way, this app isn't that accurate anyway so take it too seriously.
i factory reset my phone 1-2 times a year. My S8+ slowly gets worse and worse battery life.
After factory reset its much better again..

Sadly. My results persist even after a factory reset.
To be clear, my battery life seems fine or normal at least, however I have the issue of the battery having degraded in health of 20% in 8 months of ownership which is so far off from Samsung’s claims of only 5% battery degradation in the 1st year of use. My S8+ appears to have quadrupled Samsung’s estimate in little over half of a year.
Mine has degraded about 10% in 9 months. I am disappointed but luckily the phone is covered by a 2 year warranty so will get them to replace it

10% is still dissapointing given what Samsung claims. Unfortunately I have a little crack on the screen so warranty isn’t an option for me but good luck with yours, I would definitely have it looked at as even 10% degraded in 9 months seems off.

Its not just Accubattery though. The Samsung file system, using file explorer shows “fullcapnom” file and confirms the remaining MaH capacity is now at 2800 down from 3500mah which corresponds which the 20% health loss shown in AB.
I’m pretty much a light user tbf so I can only assume the battery itself was either degraded at manufacture or it’s simply a bad cell.

i am not sure that file is correct at all... on my phone it shows 1056 but on my last full charge i had 118 hours (almost 5 full days) from full charge to recharge so that number can not be correct...
For anyone interested, here is the method I used to check maH value using a file explorer..

It’s possible it’s incorrect but i have to say that it shows around the same value as the other app (Accubattery) shows. If you see my OP the pic attatched shows AB estimates my capacity & Remaining capacity of 2803 and the fullcapnom file also shows 2800 which makes me think they are somewhat accurate in my case.

Is this true? I was somehow under the impression that “any” damage to screen, “accidental damage” (other than scratching) renders the warranty void?

I think so, certainly give them a call first but I'm certain they will fix it.
According to GSAM, my average SOT is 4.5 hours, with a 20 hour average life. Sometimes I only get 3.5 hours of SOT. My phone is 2 months old. I'd say you're fine.
Hi Guys,
Thats my history: a week after the Note 8 launch, my battery was insanely good. 30h per charge, 6-7h SOT. But after an update my battery dropped 50% to only 15h per charge.
So I think: my battery is degraded with 6 months
Of course i tried to replace my S8 Plus battery And... Nothing
Now I have a brand new battery and have to charge after 15 hours with 3h max of SOT...
IMHO, its an efuse or some hardware related update that messed up battery life on some devices. Mine included :crying:
Ps.: I guess that the big bixby update was the responsible, but its only a feeling

Question Battery life since the last update

All was so good,
I was able to hold 2 days with my use (it was incredible, with my s10 I held 24h).
And, then, last update...
And now, in one night of sleep 25-30% of drain ??? Oo

I had my S10+ that ever had bad battery life, my s21+ looks like is much better, having 25% of drain in standby means there is an app that is causing that, when you talk about your last update, you should explain which version of firmware do you have now.
My T-Mo USA S21+ gets really great battery life. No change with the latest (AUAG) USA firmware. My S10 got very good battery life (24 Hrs +) but the S21+ (so far) gives me 2 days with MANY hours of screen on time.
Here's a partial dump of a discharge to 10%:
I'm using the exynos variant. I bought the phone on 13th Feb. The battery life is really realty bad for a 4800mah device. I was getting a expecting a decent battery life. But I'm getting like 4.5hrs SOT for 10.5 hours usage which is like half of what snapdragon verison is giving. This sucks. Should have waited for op9pro. Made a huge mistake.!!

No, that is with Adaptive Motion Smoothness (120Hz) turned on.
I thought maybe my AOD was adding too much Screen On time, giving me a very misleading value, so in one of the tests I made i just played a few movies, and I still got hours and hours of battery life. I have no idea why there is such a variance.
Edit: So I thought of two things to mention. I run my screen brightness at about 35%. If you run yours much higher, that could effect your results significantly. If you use your phone outside a lot and it's set to automaticly adjust its brightness, that could set the screen brighness very high (for when you're outside). Also, I have bluetooth turned off.
2nd Edit: I ran another test last night and I'm surprised to report that there was no significant difference at full screen brightness versus my normal 35% brightness. I had Netflix playing for 3 hours at normal brightness followed by 3 hours at full brightness and the slope of the battery level curve is essentially the same. I'm at a lost to explain this as well as it's been my experience that screen brightness significantly affects power usage.
fwiw
My battery life seems okay but charging is very slow. I've never had so much trouble getting up to a full charge

I did some tests the other night and much to my surprise turning up the screen from my usual 35% to full didn't make much of a difference.
I'm in the habit of using the "Close all" function in the recent apps screen almost all the time. Maybe that makes a difference?
I'm trying all the scenarios to reach that level of battery life but I go out for atleast 3 hrs a day. So I use my phone in mobile data as well. That also contribute. Yeah closing all applications all the time prevent unnecessary background process. That may actually help in apps like Twitter and Instagram.
Here is the latest I have managed . I removed one of the sim and used carefully . This is the best I have managed so far. But again, I use it outdoors with mobile internet for atleast an hour of screen time. 3 hours of outdoor usage . I'm still not sure if it's a good battery life but I will take it.
As a new S21+ owner I can say that I have had great battery life so far consistently getting 7.5-8 sot. This is with the latest march update.

Hi. Looking at your screenshot, it seems you are using an Indian variant. I do not want to get into specifics, but Indian networks are far more congested compared to other countries. So the modem has to work 4 times as hard compared to say the US. Also, dual sims nearly halve the standby time. So the usage you have is fine and I wouldnt worry too much about it.
Have anyone tried disable auto optimize app daily and disable adaptive battery.
Some say it really improve the battery on the previous samsung gen. I'm going to try it. And report to all of you guys.
Just came up to xda to search about anything related to battery and didn't find the solution yet.
Sometime I got a good battery like about 6 hours sot. The other day it just to bad only around 4 hours. It seems auto optimize overreacting to apps and make it closed and open daily causing a worst battery live. And the adaptive battery just seems not good at all in some report.
My best so far today, 10h of SoT doing mostly multimedia stuff. Exynos, 4G, 60Hz, April update. No power saving mode.

Question Battery and SOT

I just got my One Plus 9 (LE 2110) today. It came with 16% charge out of the box and I charged it up to 100%.
My battery is now at 15% at 4hrs SOT. I only do facebook and messenger most of the time. I also tested some camera functions for a short period of time.
Is it normal or will it improve on the next charging cycles? Thank you.
I'm on Oxygen OS 11.2.10.10 build btw.

My last SOT is better with 5hr and 30mins. I optimized a bunch of apps. And I don't feel that much heating compared on the 1st time using it.
What is your usual SOT under normal usage?
That's absolutely terrible battery life.

Turning off 120hz and 5G have huge battery gains but even with them on I still get 7-8 hours.
11h14m is the best I have gotten so far (see the screenshot) but I don't push to 0 so I probably would have hit 12h.

I don't have the phone but thinking about buying it. However, poor battery is a deal breaker for me.

I am using OOS 12. The c44 ROM that dropped and then was pulled. You have to manually flash it. I don't have the issues others have complained about so I haven't reverted to OOS 11. The battery is phenomenal, just beware that you will have to go into the settings for apps you want to receive notifications from and enable background battery usage.

Why is it a deal breaker? The phone charges from zero to full in half an hour.
That said, 5G and 120hz are huge drains. You get at least 20% more battery shutting them off.

General Pixel 6a has the best battery life I have seen in a smartphone

I got my first pixel about 1 month ago and I have to say that it has the best battery life of any smartphone I have used. It is even better than the LG V30s and V50 which i think had great battery life. It is definitely better than my S21 5G (exynos). It is very efficient during use and really awesome in standby. However, I am not rooted and I have disabled 5G and AOD. I attached some screenshots. Note that I was on wifi about 85% of the time and my usage won't be the same as yours. But this is just to give an indication of what could be achieved with the pixel 6a.

I agree, tis a very good battery and managment. Pixel 7 has an even better one....
I gave up as I will be going out soon and I need the phone to be charged. it has been at 6% for about 2 hours and i don't even have it in battery saver mode and I still have auto brightness by default. I am loving this battery life.

If you root, with various tweaks you can squeeze approx. 15-20+% more outta it. GMS is a freakin' hog...you can tame it plus force numerous other system apps to doze muuch sooner. That's just a few.

Yes must admit bought mine 3 days ago and battery is the best in any phone ive had including the Lenovo p2 with 5000mah battery if anyones old enough to remember that
3a XL was better
One plus 10 pro. Takes 20 mins to go from 0 to full charge and last forever !!!
Battery consumption really improved on January build.. I'm at 18% remaining with 7h 40 min SOT.

My girl with iphone 13 pro with same battery but 6.7 120gz screen with max brightness all time have stable(!!!) 8-9 screen on time. With VPN and all is on. I look for iphone now. Pixel is good as android but iphones is the most optimized device.
we dont like discussing Iphone here in fact i think it is out of bounds per rules also.
So, if I understand battery on 6a is now better than average?
How about heat management, does the phone tend to get warm or hot on basic tasks or prolonged use?
I have never noticed any heating issue at all although i never game on phones.
any tips to improve battery?
