Hi, I have a Mac and a new Pixel 7 Pro, but have been having problems getting the Mac to access the phone as a USB device via Android File Transfer. I started using Google Drive to transfer music but everything just lands in the Downloads folder. Then I found that the cable you use makes a BIG difference. Suprisingly I have been results using a Kindle cable with an Adapter! Anyone have similar experience or better suggestions for File transfer? Photos I can do Via Google Photos & documents/Ebooks via G. Drive, it's the music files that are troublesome...
Cheers, Greg.
I've read that Mac users were having success using USB hubs. If you have one around might want to try.

On your Mac, download Macdroid. Works every time now even with a type-C to type-C cable.
Also if you plan on using Android Flash Tool or Pixel Flasher, you will still need a hub for a type-C to USB-A cable.
MacDroid, have not heard of that one, will check it out, thanks...

OpenMTP ( https://github.com/ganeshrvel/openmtp ) and MacDroid is the best option
I still lean towards OpenMTP because it's free. Donated to the dev already tho, such a good app deserve appreciation.

Exactly. Hahaha. Way too much when main purpose is simply a file transfer.
Google messed up big times with AFT tho. If they want to sway more users from apple ecosystem, they need to make their platform work together better with apple one, but instead, they put halfass*d effort by never updating their app, and let 3rd party dev do the job for them.

Thanks mate for this recommendation. Was forever stuck in trying to connect my Pixel to my Mac. Strangely Android File Transfer was able to identify every other Android device except for Pixel. Finally, gave OpenMTP a try and it worked in one go directly via a type-C to type-C cable [just had to uninstall AFT as it was always conflicting with OpenMTP].
Been using a chunky USB C to USB C cable to connect mine to my MacBook.....works most of the time. I have always found AFT to be flaky on the Mac.....and temperamental.
I also have an Xperia 1 IV and luckily Sony make Xperia Companion for Macs which works a treat

Hi!
i'm a photographer and would be please to directly read my photos on the touchpad with and usb memory card reader ... any project seen on that ?
Fred
I would also like to know about this.
SENT FROM MY DINC2 RUNNING CM7 overclocked to 1.6ghz
I'm also a photographer so this would be very useful for me. It'd be great to be able to backup an SD to the Touchopad when on location.
The other option I'm considering is an Eye-Fi SD card or two so I can wirelessly transfer images. It should work.

Thanks for the reply. I think I'll wait a while to see if it can be done before investing in an Eye-Fi card.

It's definitely possible, people are doing it.
It just requires several cables (one an OTG), an AC-powered USB hub and your time. I'd rather be able to just plug in one cable/device.
We have the port, just need the OS to use it correctly. As I understand it, USB is USB - data-wise. Maybe one of the talented PreWare devs can write a patch we can load eventually.
Hey guys,
I used to stream my iphone screen to my PC and was able to control it using keyboard and mouse. Is there a similar way to do this with the skyrocket? It makes it convenient here at work. Thanks!

Try this. It is what I used when my screen was broke. Make sure you have adb running, else it will not launch. Another thing is it is not working anymore on my particular ICS Rom. Should work fine on any GB rom, though. Hope this helps!
Here is the link to the google code page for this project. I take NO credit for this helpful app whatsoever. Devs and further info can be found here- http://code.google.com/p/androidscreencast/
Note- It is a bit slower than your probably use to, but it is the only app I could find for our device.
^^ Thanks. Testing it now.
Our new app, VMLite VNC Server, should fulfill your needs, it does exactly what you need, to control android phones or devices from a PC, so you can use the external keyboard/mouse, etc. We app has fast responses, and works on rooted or non-rooted devices.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.vmlite.vncserver&hl=en
so far our users like it. You can simply click a button to do USB connection:
more info here:
http://www.vmlite.com/vaac/#usb_connection
i use a program called MyPhoneExplorer and the corresponding Android app is in the store.

I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 AT&T and I also have a busted screen. I am trying to just pull my pictures off of it before my replacement arrives. I downloaded the SDK package you linked to but lack the knowledge to just get it to link to my phone via USB. To complicate matters I had it pattern locked but since I can't get the screen to work at all I can't unlock the phone. If I could my computer sees the phone as a portable device but won't show me any of it's files. Any pointers would be helpful.
Hmm
Well, I have a HDMI IN port in my rig . And with a MHL adapter, works perfectly fine on Windows 8.

LG has resolved the power issue, so it should. Recall that the N4 was released as USB OTG, but had to be backtracked when it was discovered there was no power. Fortunately,,cable and kernel tweaks by devs worked around the issue.

YAAAAY!!!
Looks like it should from the various log file leaks etc. My main reservation will be the ability to get ethernet working OTG like with the N7. Got this working with my Note2 after building the kernel modules myself - hopefully the N5 will be precompiled, or easy to create too.
Most Android phones at the moment support it so it would be weird if the N5 didn't support it

If the service manual that was leaked is accurate, the hardware will support USB OTG. There are a bunch of references in the manual (the Qualcomm power management IC has a VOUT_5VS_OTG output, a block diagram for the charging/USB area shows +5V0_OTG_OVP (over voltage protection), and there is a OTG enable line listed (OTG_EN)).
I didn't realize the N4 didn't support OTG (without a bit of a work around) until I came across this thread and did some reading about it.

That is a nifty device. I was going to sell my 64GB uSD card with my Note2 after I get the Nexus 5, but maybe I will hang on to it and get one those uSD adapters. It would be much easier to carry that uSD adapter with a 64GB card inside instead of an OTG cable and a thumb drive.
Matt
If the N5 is even loosely based on the LG G2 it will have USB OTG host. My G2 natively mounts mass storage devices via USB OTG.
Does any one have a link to a mirror of the N5 service manual?

Hi guys, I will buy new smartphone, Stuck Between Xperia ZL and Google Nexus 5
Anyway, LG tells that Nexus 5 Have USB OTG, and if you Googled: Nexus 5 USB OTG, you will get apps to run USB OTG On Nexus 5
What does that mean?
should i have an App to use OTG? doesn't it work out of the box? i'm won't root
I Might Use Joysticks, Mouse, Keyboard, Ext HDD,etc. so i want everything to be supported
I've also heared about Nexus 5 Unmount Devices Due to High Power Usage even if the usage is low?
No you can use usb otg out of the box with nexus media importer its an paid app or root it to get full functionality.
Since u don't wannt to root better go with xperia zl.
Xperia zl supports it out of the box, u won't need any app on it
Now its your call.

I Can always get APK's For Paid apps for free, we all know this
That's OK But what About Other things like joysticks, mouse, keyboard, etc. Will They Work too? i thought the app was only for Flash Drives!?
Plus, Beside the OTG Thing, Which one do you advice me, I'm not a ROM Developer or those who Install Other ROM's, But i might Use some emulation things or try to Install WinXP as an Example
i Also Might root To use Terminal for Specific Purposes... "Might"...
If you don't want to buy the app I recommend use total commander + USB plugin its free one

I have also tried a wireless mouse and keyboard which work fine.
Game controllers are touch and go.
Ones that use the standard hid drivers should be fine but anything else (Xbox controllers etc...) Will not work as they need modules that haven't been built for the n5 yet.

AFT works horridly on MacOS... Make sure you have the latest version of AFT on your MacOS... Then proceed with the steps you undertook, and get to the point where you see the filea in AFT. At this point, use the notification to set the USB mode to "MTP" manually. If this doesn't work, since you're trying to get pictures from the phone, also try PTP and using the Photos app on your MacBook Pro.
Good look.

you can transfer files between macbook and pixel by using AFT ? and you think it only works if i do not use googles USB cable ????
I rely pretty heavily on AFT for transfering files between my Nexus phones and my Macbook Pro. My Pixel arrives Tuesday. When it does I'll give AFT a try right away with both the Pixel USB cable and the cable that came with my Nexus 6P and let you know what my results are.

Sorry, been busy. Unfortunately, I tried both the 6P USB cable as well as the Pixel USB cable. Neither of them worked and AFT just froze. However, this is the first time I have tried using AFT since upgrading to MacOS. I honestly think the issue is solely with AFT/MacOS and not the Pixel/cable. Especially since I am able to do ADB/Fastboot commands with the Pixel using Terminal with no issues.
