I just got my Honor Magic 2 and would like to install TWRP but as far as I can tell there aren't any TWRP images for the Magic 2. I'm a software engineer with a lot of experience with linux and I thought I'd take a stab at building TWRP for the Magic 2. Is there any reason it wouldn't work? Are there any guides for supporting a new device?
Yes this is possible and if you could find a way to build from the erecoveryramdis.img there might be a way to keep root in ramdisk on recovery and have twrp on erecovery. Theres a twrp builder wit device tree generator on github here https://github.com/TwrpBuilder to ease the process. Youll need access to the source code for kernel edit its now available here http://download-c1.huawei.com/downl...adId=100565&version=431787&siteCode=worldwide
Good luck bro hope u get it running
That would be a great start thank you
I have an Infinix Hot 10T running on android version 11 that I got recently and I've been trying to install Team Win Recovery Project (TWRP) as its custom recovery but unfortunately I've failed to find anything on Google.
I managed to install root on my device using Magisk, but unfortunately I have to use ADB and Fastboot to flash the Magisk patched boot image everytime there's an update and that has been a problem for me. So it's for that reason that I wish to install a custom recovery for easy flashing.
i remember a site called hovatek helped me with my hot 6 and even provided a way to make a twrp based on my device cause it was not even available.
they offered a twrp porter where they used a script to compile and make for me my own recovery all i had to do was provide the needed device image files
android 11 support is not out but feel free to ask your queries here as the hovatek team are made for mediatek devices like yours.
I also found a script online for my hot 6 that offered the twrp with more things like unlocking bootloader...so also research and search deep and hope for the best....but hovatek will help you assured.
The twrp port forum: https://forum.hovatek.com/thread-21839.html
The Mediatek Auto TWRP Recovery Porter tool for Windows PC is downloadable from here:

Thank you for this information. I managed to download my phone's firmware and apparently there's no file written as recovery.img or anything near that. Could it be that the recovery file is inside the super.img file?

Can you try the method shown in this guide?
unofficial twrp 3.5.0 Root Itel A48 L6006L - unofficial twrp
download unofficial twrp 3.6.2 root Itel A48 L6006L, user who own Itel A48 L6006L can root it by following the below Instructions
unofficialtwrp.com
I think it will most probably work. If you succeed please let me know. If the attempt fails, you can always flash the stock firmware using SPD Flash Tool.

It's for L6006L
But no harm in testing.

From the root process, I had to resign the magisk boot image with ssh key and had to flash a custom signed vbmeta.

How to root the Itel L6006
This guide will explain how to root the Itel L6006 which is an 10 (GO) powered device. This technique only works when you have the OEM's keys used to sign the images. Luckily, we do for the Itel L6006
www.hovatek.com
They made a complete guide after I successfully rooted my l6006, because it was very different than others.

Probably the recovery image you are using is faulty. You can compile a twrp from source.
GitHub - twrpdtgen/android_device_itel_itel-L6006S
Contribute to twrpdtgen/android_device_itel_itel-L6006S development by creating an account on GitHub.

Can you compile another twrp image using this device tree and sign the image using rsa4096_vbmeta.pem file from the guide ?

I'm kind of a beginner and this guide seems complicated for me
I was hoping I could get a developer who can help out.
good luck then ! usually making a twrp requires the dev to own said device. since is a rather unknown device, there lies the problem. and making a twrp without the device might result in an unstable twrp image. are you ready to risk bricking your phone ?
I'm having trouble trying to root this old device. I tried a couple of one-click apps, unsuccessfully.
And I don't know how to install a custom recovery on this device.
Have you a suitable Custom Recovery at your hands?

I'm rather new at all this root thing. I don't know what TWRP version use since this tablet is not on the list (https://twrp.me/Devices/), and I can't find an app compatible with this device. I tried some Kingroot version I found, but it won't recognize this tablet.
Then try to compile TWRP at your own:
