Purchased a brand new Moto Z4, but it's setup up for Verizon - Moto Z4 Questions & Answers

Happy New Year everyone!
I purchased a brand new Moto Z4, but it's setup up for Verizon. I was hoping that by reinstalling the firmware using the Motorola rescue tool, I could get the phone back to an unbranded state, i.e. I don't want any trouble with calls on my non-Verizon network. From what I've read on this forum, the Verizon boot screen is merely cosmetic, so can someone tell me how to remove whatever Verizon put on the phone to lock the phone to their network only?
Much thanks in advance

I know this is an old thread, but thought I'd chime in on something you've probably figured out by now.
The only way to get rid of branding and verizon's garbage is to use adb to disable or uninstall the offending items. There are guides everywhere including on one of the main xda pages.
Network wise if you bought it new as old stock I'd call up big red and request to have it unlocked (network). There's nothing to be done as far as bootloader unlocking.
Best of Luck in this New Year!

[Q] Unlocked HTC Desire and Froyo

Hi all. I'm new to all this after sacking my iphone in favour of the wonderful Desire a couple of weeks ago. I bought the phone on an O2 (UK) pay and go contract and have put my old iphone sim in which works fine. I am keen to get the 2.2 update so paid to unlock my phone having read that unlocked phones can get it now. However, my phone appears to be unlocked as I can use my wife's 3 sim in there but I still can't get the update yet. How do I do this? Do I need to put in a sim from a provider that has released the update already or is there another way round this? Any help would be appreciated as I am learning my way round what appears to be a great OS and phone, even though I appear to have wasted cash unlocking it!
Thanks, in advance.
Note to self-read the forums..!
I've seen how to do it via the Gold card method but would appreciate advice as to which ROM to use...I'm assuming as I'm branded to O2 the O2 specific one is correct? 124865?
I can't post links yet unfortunately.

[q] how to get htc ozone or motorola q9c unlocked to use new sim?

Looked all over site..sounds like info I will need..but I just started.
I have HTC Ozone that I bought cash when I had Verizon wireless. I canceled with them over 5 months ago after being with them for over 10 yrs. I have T-Mobile now and would like to see if I can use my HTC Ozone (or Motorola q9c) with my current carrier T-Mobile.
I just started attempting to do this..so I did get a site where I got an unlock code..and I unlocked the Verizon SIM card. I did not know what to do next. I put the TMobile SIM in and it does not recognize SIM.
I saw on posting that I needed to change my network from CDMI to GSM? (I hope I have those letters correct). I did do this..and no matter what I do with trying the Verizon SIM or re-trying my current TMobile SIM..did not recognize, but I noticed that when I change from CDMI to GSM..it always goes back to CDMI. And the network name above it is fixed on Verizon with no change option.
I am new at this..but I am a computer geek..self taught, so terms like FLASH it and others, I am not familiar with yet. (ROM? means what)
I really did not use HTC Ozone for email, internet much..then I got stuck with Required data..so if there is some way to use internet..I don't care. it would be nice option to choose.
I just had to get out of that phone, as the rules changed with that carrier and it suddenly became a required DATA phone. (I had simply updated from my Motorola Q9c..'which is another option to update if it is easier to able to be used on T-Mobile..it just needed new battery.( I wish I never updated). T-Mobile phone I actually downgraded from my $500+ phone to a basic Gravity2. I miss the calendar and basic OS features. But I do like my new carrier very much.
Is there any way to remove all this Verizon software? or change the settings they have set on so it is locked with their Version only, I would prefer to see if it is possible to unlock and use either my HTC Ozone or Motorola q9c.
I have seen others mention 'removing carrier firmware and installing clean software..and I have seen on this site, real cool development stuff done.
I do not know if my phone has 'Cedar? or whatever the other name was?
Does anyone know a good first steps to look into to do this? I did already unlock my prior HTC Ozone..I had used when I was with VerizonWireless..over 4 months ago, so it is here..and Motorola q9c real good phones I would rather have the choice to use.
Will I be able to use my T-Mobile SIM in my HTC Ozone? or on Motorola q9c? And Use one of these great phones?
Here is my phone specs on Ozone: (getting info on Motorola)
HTC Ozone (bought Verizon) have Verizon SIM card..I was able to unlock it.

[Q] ATT or TMO on DG2?

I purchased a DG2 in hopes of unlocking for tmo or att in the usa. Does anyone know how to do this? I have allready unlocked it. It shows ATT and Tmo at the top when I view the lock screen. I have allready selected gsm and ATT as the network. Bought it for a friend and I am really frustrated. I personally use a vibrant and I am not new to development. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Should have done some research before buying the phone. As of now, there is no known method to make a D2G work on any US GSM carrier. There is one company that claims to have a hardware unlock method, but they don't offer it to the public yet, and their projected price is $100. They also require you to revert your phone to an older firmware, and the unlock removes all capabilities for updates. Not worth it at all, IMHO. Some people have suggested trying a turbo SIM, but nobody has posted an update about whether or not that actually works.
So, short answer: You can't make your phone work on ATT or TMO.

Vzw S3 SIM unlock and new ROM

Hey everyone,
I hope someone can help me out with this problem. Today I moved from our old company carrier AT&T to Verizon and had to replace my GSM unlocked iP 4S. I don't like what Apple is doing at the moment so I went back to Android after couple of years (I had a HTC Desire and a GS2 back in Germany).
I read here on xda that Verizon promised an update to make the S3 global ready but we are still waiting for them to finally release it. First thing I did was putting my German Vodafone SIM in the phone but the lock wouldn't let me use it. I called Verizon Enterprise Support, explained the whole situation and asked them for an unlock code but they claimed the phone won't work in Europe and that's why I wont need a unlock code in the first place. Well I guess I wanted to try the "official" way and now I'm open for more creative approaches to solve this problem - I'm going back to Germany in 10 days and I really want to use this phone.
Is there a way to get an unlock code from Verizon or should I use a 3rd Party website? Is there something I should say or a different number to call? I tried to pull the "Hey we are a big customer and I'm the IT Ops Manager" card but it didn't help. I found a couple of websites that unlock the S3 for 10-20 bucks or so but I don't like the idea of giving someone my IMEI without checking here on xda first.
What happens if I get an unlock code and decide to root the phone and flash CM? Will I keep my unlock or do I have to do the whole process again? I really don't like TouchWiz, the S Apps and all this Verizon Bloat.Hope that someone can help me. Thanks guys.

Just spoke with Verizon Global Services Rep, who was actually really helpful. First off, any 4G phone is "sim-unlocked" by default. I have yet to prove this out, but will tonight, I have a WCDMA pre-paid sim that is still active.
Second, much like previous (major) android releases (GB - ICS last year), the Samsung JB update, should enable global phone capabilities on the Verizon SIII. We should then see the functionality enabled via the various new ROM's (built off OTA release) enabling said functionality.
Third point, which actually makes a lot of sense. He pointed out that many countries now have WCDMA networks as well as GSM, China being the obvious one. Assuming the native unlocked mode is correct, one should be able to purchase as WCDMA pre-paid sim, install and activate on the phone. Verizon Global Services will then set up a call forwarding service that directs all incoming calls to the PP sim number.
He noted that the only global services plans (discounted rates) offered by Verizon at this time are for GSM networks, meaning that even when we get the SW upgrade, roaming and call charges are going to be astronomical. A PP sim is still going to be the best option.
Anyone have any data to counter this??? Will try the sim card tonight and respond back.

VZW apps on my phone?

This may be a silly question but I hope someone can answer for me.
I am currently living in Thailand and picked up a Pixel 2 not too long ago. I got the OTA up to January while my phone was still stock/unrooted with my Thai Sim card. I then unlocked the bootloader rooted Magisk etc... At one point I flashed the stock image from google (not the UK or verizon variants) as I wanted to go back to stock.
I then updated to the February update by flashing the factory image without the -w to prevent wiping. Currently on OPM1.171019.019
Just earlier today I was snooping around and found the following installed but disabled:
My Module: com.vzw.apnlib
Retail Demo Mode: com.customermobile.preload.vzw
Vzw OMA Trigger: com.android.vzwomatrigger
vzw_msdc_api: qualcomm.com.vzw_msdc_api
VZW_Multicast_MW: com.qualcomm.ltebc_vzw
My question is, are these Verizon services baked into the stock image files? A Verizon had never been in the phone, as far as I know.
Thank you kindly
I know that this post is a few months old, but I was just searching for the same answer to this question regarding my phone. I am currently seeing these on my T-Mobile branded Snapdragon Note 8. If anyone out there might be able to help answer?
I think this thread and this thread are related.
For some reason there's a cross over between what the VZW and Google should be. It must have something to do with the partnership between them.
I just had the issue of VZW potentially (NOT confirmed) locking my boot loader...
Also on my Sprint G965U
same thing with me on a us cellular s8 that i bought brand new in store. I found a verizon service agreement in my network config. i called and questioned them about it, i asked what their affiliation with vzw was , they said they had none unless it was above their paygrade. they ended up telling me the phones are programmed for multi carriers from the manufact then the acutual carrier will optimize them which leaves pretty much dead files that cant be rewmoved. use activity launcher you dont need root and you can access almost every file in a readable state and also control tons of **** that is in your phone but cant access. i cant believe all the settings that you would never know about. anyway getting off track. back to vzw, i first thought vzw files on a new us cellular device meant maybe it was rerfurbished and they lied, i wish , bye bye contract lol. i think this could be made into a big deal, possible void a contract , going to go to the store and see what they think, i know they wont have a clue. thats what im hoping because ill easily take an s10+ and not pursue it any further haha

it all comes down to business. those apps are preinstalled, yes, baked in? yes and no. they have read only permissions but are not an integral part of the system and can be removed. some users report having trouble using verizon apps with their verizon service after uninstalling com.vzw.apnlib i'm sorry you didn't get an answer sooner, but these things happen.
