Downgraded System App Resets After Reboot - General Questions and Answers

I downgraded a system app on my MIUI 13 through adb install -r -d command and it seems to keep resetting to the upgraded version everytime I reboot.
Is there any way to keep the changes, preferably without having to root?

Deleting / replacing system apps requires Android is got rooted.

Yep

Ok I suppose you re doing this in order to get back the Miui 12 Control Center that gets fully themed when applying a theme which is not the case in Version 13.
I am facing the same problem, after reboot it reverts back to the original version stored in sys image i guess.
The Solution that i have found is to uninstall the Sytemui.plugin package completely. this way you ll get the system fully themed and it wont revert back to the newer version after restarting. BUT I find it annoying that the volume control UI becomes stock android which i m not used to it yet. You may try that and see if you can live with it. if no you can simply reinstall the Plugin usiing ADB it causes no problems at all

Thanks for this! My actual reason was the inconsistent capitalization with the labels and everything feels slightly smaller than usual. This wan't a big issue in previous MIUI because the labels are normally hidden.
I also didn't like the implementation of A12 on MIUI 13 as it feels unfinished for the most part and had performance issues. So I hit two birds with one stone by downgrading to Xiaomi.eu Android 11 version. I'll just wait until MIUI 14.
Thanks for your answer, it might help someone facing the same issue

Stop Automatic System Update

So my w200A NEVER used to automatically install system updates. I could flash any version and I would get a notification that there was an update but i just ignored these notifications. Flashed multiple times and never once did it install system updates automatically.
Well I accidentally hit the power button during a notification while leaning on a table the other day and it installed the system update.
I thought OK, no problem I'll just flash back again to a previous build.
Now when I flash back to any previous builds it automatically downloads and automatically installs system updates without any notification or authorization from me. I've flashed multiple builds to test ( 1.5, Korean 1.5, preview 2.0, Original ATT OTA 2.0) they all now automatically install system updates without my authorization. This happens with ANY data connection, wifi, bluetooth, mobile data.
So my questions is, what changed so that it is now automatically installing system updates without my authorization ?
PS ( my reason for not using latest OTA is standalone GPS issues)
Thanks
After a bunch of trial and error with my Urbane 2 the following single adb command stopped system updates and also stopped system update notifications.
My steps:
1. I flashed 1.5, let it bootup. Then I side loaded the Korean 2.0 OTA zip NXH20E. ( * after 2.0 fully installed I went into stock recovery and did a factory reset, probably not necessary, but I always do it anyhow)
2. Rooted and installed super user. ( I just booted custom recovery I didn't flash it - not sure if this made a difference but that's what I did) I used this SU > https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=73572631&postcount=7
3. This is the ONLY adb disable command I did:
adb shell
su
pm disable com.google.android.gms/.chimera.GmsIntentOperationService
4. That's it, it stopped updating and also no system update notifications. Its been 4 days now. And most importantly to me, my standalone GPS is back to working properly.

Can you post up the file for AW 1.5?
I can't seem to find it anywhere and I'd love to go back. I tried the thread in the other forum, but the link is dead.
Thanks!

strange only seems to have been a small security patch, was hoping it might fix sensitive sensors etc also, though I did notice Google pushing an update a week or so back so maybe that fixed the gestures? Anyone know where we can find out what Google is pushing out via play store?
(edit: it took forever to optimise my apps, thought it was stuck after about 20min but no it finally installed, though maybe it was due to having some cloned apps this time)

You WILL lose root with the update; you just need to re-root it. No data loss if you do an OTA.
I've been installing all updates like this:
1. Download both OTA and full image from Essential onto PC.
2. Apply OTA via adb sideload.
3. Reboot, wait for the update to complete. The root is lost at this point.
4. Extract boot.img from the full image, copy to phone.
5. Patch boot.img with Magisk, copy patched file back to PC.
6. Flash patched boot.img via fastboot.
7. Reboot. You are now rooted again.
These steps are also described in details in other threads. I also tried once to do an OTA update directly on the phone, but somehow it took forever to finish, so I am sticking to my old method...
@kt-Froggy or anyone
I reckon this update that fixed 3rd party launcher must have come via the Play store using Googles new Project Mainline update system on Android 10. I did notice something was updating a few weeks ago in the background. Does anyone know where we can see what bits of Android has been updated via Play store?

Sorry, I have no idea... Would be interesting to know, for sure.
I also did notice a couple of times some updates in the background, even though I have auto updates disabled in Play Store. Didn't catch what was updating, though. I know some components are getting updated automatically regardless of the settings, e.g. Instant Apps, but not sure what exactly that was...

Missing emojis after install OxygenOS 10.3.0 fastboot rom

Since clean installing android 10.3.0 with fastboot rom (before I use fastboot -w) and reset my emojis have gone. No emojis on gboard or swift key so I presume it's a system issue? Anybody know a fix? Thanks.

Dont forget to clean keyboard's data after installing full update.

I downloaded full update with oxygen updater app. Then install is with local update, then delete data and cache of gboard. Then reboot phone, but doesnt show emoji...
Now works like a charm. Plus problem was the hungarian keyboard layout (only in beta gboard).
Thanks a lot!

How do you clean the keyboard's data? I have the exact same issue as OP. Can it be done without flashing twrp? Installing twrp seems to break my system until I do a full restore over fastboot..
EDIT: Tried xxx no limits to add emojis, and the reserve_V1.zip magisk module in the thread you linked. Neither worked for me.
EDIT2: Nvm, the reserve module worked. Just had to wait
I installed magisk module from the thread mentioned above, text fixed but applications are broken.
You can error in the screenshot, both sound recorder and notes display the same error. Cleaning of their storage does not help.
Did someone manage to have working stock apps on OOS 10.3 & OnePlus 6?
I add a topic on the OnePlus forum, it was a suggestion from OnePlus support team.... they mention that OnePlus developers then will see the problem... I am super angry, zero support from OnePlus!
Anyway, here is the topic:

Local re-install (+reflash TWRP and magisk) solved it, the emojis are back ! I still have one problem from the soft brick left over: When connecting the phone, normally an additional CD drive appears with the oneplus logo and the oneplus drivers. After the flash, nothinf. After the reinstallation, the CD drive was back but witout logo or drivers.
I found the drivers on the web (https://www.getdroidtips.com/download-oneplus-usb-drivers/), but after installing I still have some standard microsoft ones (date 21/06/2006, version 10.0.18362.1, Microsoft).
Could someone quickly check on your PC if those are the orrect ones ??
Thanks

Head unit wont install APKs

So I unfortunately have a unit with crappy wifi and bluetooth hardware that only works 10% of the time. I have sound a hopeful solution here https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=78204931&postcount=70
the problem is it seems to need a rooted device to run those scripts. So I have been trying to update my device to the Hal9k or malaysk ROMS. My device wont install the ModInstaller.apk no matter what I try. I click install and it just show package installer in the top bar for a sec then goes away and does nothing. I made sure the apps had access to install apks, I have tried moving it into data/apps. I jsut can get the unit to install the APKs to backup and install a new ROM. If I try to run the rom updater from sd and not with the apk backup it gives me an error: 21. not sure if either are related.
Or if someone knows a way i can run a script from the above url fix without updating a whole new rom and just whitelisting it would be so happy! I just want wifi and bluetooth
Please help
Thanks!

How was your device determined to actually be an MTC(D/E) device?
These are the settings from my system. I have sense upgraded the firmware to the newest version i could find, I think it was 2.94 XRC.
This post is also the same issue as me. https://forum.xda-developers.com/an...e-xrc-v2-941-px5-wifi-bluetooth-wake-t3871755
No one else has had issues installing APKs before?
Is install enabled in factory options
Yup, now I feel silly, looked through all the settings and install apps was OFF in the factory settings. Thanks for the help, didn't even know to check there. I was able to update to hal9k and hopefully the script fixes the bluetooth and wireless issues.

Question Upgrading to 12 from 11 on magisk rooted device.

I rooted this device (model XT2131-1 TMO) while it was still on the android 11 using magisk method (currently on v25.2) and it runs fine honestly but when playing games every time the system update window appears it will completely boot me out of said game. I always selected not now( as I know updates break root if you just update) but I wanted to try and just update it and work on rooting that version after but then I receive "Package Verification Failed" notice and nothing happens. After so many attempts of selecting "not now" it will completely stop for a few weeks then start popping up again. So far this is absolutely the only issue I have ATM. More an annoyance really. Is there a way to completely disable that system update notification from appearing entirely or where should I look to restore, update, and then reboot on Android 12? I'd prefer just get rid of the update popup as everything else works fine. I'd appreciate any help thank you.
I also just remembered I've asked this in another thread but in this one im asking more about preferably disabling the system update notification entirely which will fix my main issue of it.

Solution: flash current stock kernel and run update again. You can grab updated stock kernel from RSA and patch and regain root

You can't delete it but you can certainly freeze it find an app like SD maid on Google Play you can freeze all the update apps and associated dll files there's about six or seven of them
I've still got an older pro version of that actually. Ty I'll look into that.
I'm seeing two under sdmaid. Both say frozen already. Which one is the actual android system update app pls?

Yes but there is android system update and then Motorola system update. I've disabled/froze(yes using sd maid and other root accessed app managers separately so as not to mess up anything else) both and their services/triggers (anything linked to ether) each at a time for a couple days and both at the same time and still appears constantly. Only thing I can think of is to completely reset to full stock,go to 12 and reboot ....
Try to disablw this application. i read that this help. I do not vouch for it, I’m not responsible for what happens due to it.

Look for an app called preference manager on Google Play.
Of course it'll require root.
Select each individual app it'll take you to the XML file it creates.
Look for all the timer entries and change them to zero basically make a mess out of it if you will.
As long as you've disabled all the receivers that should stop the app from Auto Wake
