If your using it on you own carrier, then insert their sim.. It will change the boot screen from T-Mobile to whom ever your carrier is.. That is how it worked for me, when I bought a T-Mobile phone and put it on Sprint long before they bought Sprint.

[Q] What version is this Atrix 2?

Is there a type such as 'AT&T retail', and it's not necessary to unlock if you use another carrier?
My friend has one, and there is no at&t logo at the bottom of the screen
This is the About phone screenshot

Well, This is not ATT, but I have no idea what it is specifically. It may or may not be locked, but any decent carrier will unlock it for you for free if it is.
Did he buy a new phone or a used one ?! If a used one then maybe somebody mustve rooted it and fxz'd with ATT, though im not sure anyone can flash ATT fxzs other than ATT users.

if you can place phone calls with it, it means that is not locked, so the next thing you should follow are the APN settings.
Follow this guide on how to check your APN settings; https://www.unlockunit.com/blog/apn-settings-not-available-current-user-profile
And if they are not the correct one, you can contact your network provider to provide them for you. Let me know if you fix them.

IN2017 t-mobile and sprint are using the same stock firmware?

I am an overseas user and I have an overseas SIM card from T-mobile, as well as the oneplus 8 (IN2017) . Phone calls and text messages all work well. In fact. This phone came from a sprint promotion and was quickly on sale again. But this phone does not have any sprint app and LOGO. This phone only has the t-mobile app and LOGO.
Are they using the exact same hardware and stock firmware?
