I recently purchased a Galaxy S22 Ultra and when I'm on the lock screen trying to read my notifications, it always times out after 5 seconds and the screen goes black.
I have the display timeout for the entire Android system set to 5 minutes, and I used GoodLock to set the lock screen timeout to 1 minute, but it seems the setting is being ignored.
did you try extending your lockscreen's timeout for a maximum of 2 minutes via lockstar?
I did. It did not change anything. The reviews for LockStar on the galaxy store show a lot of people having this same problem.
I just changed the timeout to 15 seconds. It stayed on for 15 seconds. There was an update available when I opened LockStar. Perhaps this was addressed in the update.
I saw the update too and tried, and it did not work :-\ I also noticed the last review in the galaxy store mentioned today’s update fixed a different one of their issues, but not the timeout one.
Anyone a solution for this issue yet ? I'm using a Galaxy S10 BTW
An update of LockStar ended up fixing this for me a little while back. Like within the last 4 weeks.
I can't say this is related but when I'm making a call and on speaker my screen goes dim after 10 seconds and black after another 5 even though my display is set for 10 minutes. It happens with both my s22u and s21u. Neither Samsung or the local repair shop can answer why.
That is most certainly a different issue.
I seem to recall my phone screen turning off when on a call if it thinks the phone is next to my ear. Maybe it could be related to that?

Samsung Rep said the same thing however the phone was a good 12" directly in front of me. I did check some settings they recommended but no difference. Took it to the repair shop they recommended and they could only say it shouldn't do that. Both my s22u and s21u do it but my note 8 never did and still doesn't.

I hardly use my phone. I have a Galaxy S3 bought at the end of July 2012. The last couple days I noticed the burning through of my Home Screen. Its obvious when I have a white screen over it. Its disgusting to think that is happening on a phone not 3 months old yet. I am taking it to the Sprint store on Saturday Oct 13, 2012 to see what bs they give me. When I saw this I thought it was normal so I took it over to a friends house who uses his new S3 15 hours a day and he was shocked to see this.
Hmm... this is pretty weird. Are you stock? If not what Rom and kernel are you using? I'm just wondering if there are any display tweaks or if you made any tweaks that could have caused this. Do you always run full brightness?

Also, what is your screen timeout set to? Do you ever leave the screen on (knowing it will turn itself off in a few minutes)?

That's weird. Are you sure it's actually screen burn and not the system software keeping a ghost image?
Also, why would you bring your Verizon phone to the Sprint store? Since this is the Verizon forum I'm assuming that's your carrier.
Well image persistence is a well documented issue on AMOLED screens, so its not something that is unheard of. It is kinda strange to see it on a lightly used phone, however. I would also be curious to know your screen timeout settings. Also, can you think of any situation at all where your screen might have remained on for an extended period?

Ok... My timeout screen is set at two minutes. Yes it is at its brightest level automatic off. Now over the last couple weeks. I had it on for a long time on my desk/ overnight maybe 3 days. As someone said before, as a glamorous clock. No excuses there, but I wasn't aware of screen burn like this. Now those 3 days of overnight probably was more than 10x the amount the phone has ever been used. Since July 1 10 minutes of phone usage, and I've used it stream music from my pogo plug.
Sorry about the Verizon Forum... I didn't notice that until I posted this, and I don't know how to move it to the Sprint Forum. If mod wants to move thats perfect.
Sprints' answer today, was that they wanted to charge me $35 to hard reset because I don't have service plan. I did not feel I should have to pay to check out the phone. I've been a customer of Sprint since the very beginning. A CUSTOMER, Who never uses the two phones it subscribes to. If they were to look at my records for the last 20 years, they would be amazed at the non usage. I think I started with a $5 a month plan back in the day. Now $125, they have made plenty of money on my account for all those years. I told the sprint store rep that Samsung has a 1 year warranty on this... His answer, "then deal directly with Samsung. We will charge $35 to diagnose the problem." It was a hard stance by this store. I've dealt with them when I got this phone with a scratched screen, and also a hard stance with replacing it in 20 days. Its my fault because I don't use the phone, but when I looked I saw the scratch. By replacing the phone then, I used up my 90 day warranty to replace the phone I think. So now of course I have nothing to work with. I will be connecting with Executive Offices in Virginia on Monday Morning, hopefully I can get a decent response from them. All this over $35 and Screen Burn.
Ah yes leaving the screen on overnight several times is definitely enough to permanently damage the screen. Full brightness also didnt help. I can't say its your fault, because this type of issue isnt very well reported on (or disclosed). I love the beautiful brilliance of AMOLED, but its unfortunate that they cant handle long periods of use. Sorry for your luck, wish there was something more I could say.
I'd your phone the blue one?
I've seen very bad burn in on the store demos.

No its a white phone, now with SCREEN BURN ! You'd think they would warn people of this, but I guess not. We'll have to see what sprint says next week. If nothing from them I'll just send it to Samsung for year warranty period. I Don't use the phone that much anyway. Its a glorified MP3 player for me.

Screen burn in general is a very OLD concept... if you've used computers at all while growing up and are older than 10, you should have an idea about screen burn and make sure you take steps to prevent it if you are not sure of your device or know your device is susceptible to it. :-/
There are two types of burn, screen burn and image retention. This could just be image retention and can be fixed with a rotating pattern of static images. At least that is what you do with plasma tvs but it wouldn't hurt to see if you can do the same with a phone.
Update. Talked to sprint exe offices. I will have to pay the $35 up front, but then scan receipt and send back to Sprint to get it refunded. Sprint store verified screen burn and ordered new phone.
Ok... I like the phone bright. If doing this puts my phone at risk for screen burn... what do I have to do to my settings to stop this from happening again? I do prefer the phone to stay on for more than a couple minutes when I'm using it and of course the brightness.
It is the nature of Amoleds. If you do any reading on them it explains why they burn in so bad. So far every Samsung I've seen with an Amoled has burn in. Moment, Epic, Epic touch, Galaxy Nexus, and even the GSIII.
As mentioned earlier, you just have to take precautions.
Just don't leave the screen on overnight and you shouldnt have a problem.
I have two G3's, the one I use as my DD shows the exact same thing.

notch the brightness down a smidgon and have the screen off set at something shorter, you just have to tap your phone every now and then to keep it on while you're actively using it and when you're not it will turn off quicker. And like the guy said, don't leave the freakin thing on all night like that. SMH
To be honest, I'm surprised Sprint even entertained the idea of looking at your phone if it wasn't currently activated. Unless it just wasn't currently activated for some type of service issue. Unless you meant insurance (TEP) when you said service plan. Which, in that case, would be BS imo.
I would have thought you would have had to deal with Samsung directly.
Well, I've had my GS3 since July and I'm experiencing the exact same issue with image burn-in. This is going to be a widespread problem as more people realize they have their home screen icons permanently ghosted into their screen... especially against a white background.
If you google the GS3 burn-in, you will already find that Samsung in Korea first denied a problem, but then backed off and is now replacing the screens.
Unfortunately, my screen does not turn off while it's charging, and even if I manually turn it off, it will turn back on and stay on once it hits 100%. I'm sure other people are aware of that bug once the notification of full charge pops up. Google "GS3 turns on after charge", or something similar, and there are a slew of folks complaining about their phones lighting up their bedrooms in the middle of the night. This happens to my phone every night and I'm sure it's the reason I have the burn-in.
My next steps are similar to the OP. I have sprint and will be marching down to a full service center store to get a replacement ordered.
I don't even know how Samsung would replace just the screen... wouldn't that comprimise the whole sealed unit and allow for dust to get between the outside glass and the actual AMOLED?!? Who knows, but I'm going through Sprint first.
This is extremely disappointing.
Burn In "Fix"
Can't allready burned in screens be alleviated with simple full screen images of RBG full screen? THis idea doesn't actually "fix" dying pixels and whatnot, but its a quick and dirty fix for some burn in.
Play store link if you wanna try it:
http://full.sc/Qsjg5H
Of course, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
- If you must have a theme, use low intensity colors (the bright blue battery in a status bar is kind of burn in candy)
- As mentioned before, lower your brightness levels
- Also as mentioned before, turn off your screen when you aren't looking at it, and set your screen timeout to the shortest time bearable.
-- One thing that can help with a short screen timeout, is to set your screen to not lock immediately on timeout (have it wait a tick to actually lock after going black), that way you can easily get your screen back on with the application you were using without having to swipe or pin or faceunlock.

I noticed this issue on my Galaxy S4, S3 and Note 3, when I had them, but turning off the various screen automation controls those phones had generally took care of it. My nexus 5 however, doesn't have options for those, except the standard auto-brightness, which is turned off, so I am not sure why my screen dims a lil bit and then goes back to normal, at random times. It's pretty annoying. Has anyone else noticed this issue, and know of a fix ? I haven't found much info on it when I searched for it. Found plenty about the Galaxy series tho lol*
Just got my Note Edge 2 days ago and when comparing the screen brightness (at max/no auto) it is much dimmer than our note 4. now I am not talking about the super bright setting that occurs when its on auto and outside but instead indoors. I also have been seeing a message in the display brightness settings "UNABLE TO INCREASE THE BRIGHTNESS FURTHER. THE DEVICE IS OVERHEATING" Could this be due to a faulty battery or something else? This is my only complaint with this phone but its a big one especially if i'm receiving this message. Should I return to Tmobile or is it most likely a software glitch. It is very cold where I am at so it has not been out in the sun or plugged in too long. minor use has led to this overheating message usually only seen in the summertime when in the car too long
why you need turn on full brightness? I only use brightness like 20% on that slider. it also save battery.

I typically enjoy and have always used max brightness and even if i didn't this issue probably shouldn't be happening. It's the fact that i think something is wrong with my new phone already. I want to make sure by asking questions
Yes something is wrong if you're not gaming intensely or something like that. It should never overheat just from full brightness I have the T-Mobile one and I use max brightness all day no problems.
Guys the samsung NoteEdge on lollipop has that issue. Basically you can't switch auto brightness fully off it will control your brightness even if uncheck the box. After weeks of searching and trying I found a kind of solution because I love to see my screen in all his power and brightness. Solution is call "screen filter" can be found in the play store for free. Set the brightness at 100% and switch it on. You'll see the difference.
I picked up my Galaxy S6 Edge from sprint 8 days ago. After getting it i thought it was the best phone i have ever bought. But after a week of use some bugs are starting to appear. To start things off the night clock turns on the entire screen. It makes the screen a very dim grey the entire time the night clock is on. The screen is fine with the information feed, it's only with the clock. Issue 2: my edge lighting no longer works. I set my 5 favorites, and it worked for a week. Now when i get a call from one of those 5, and my phone is upside down, nothing. No edge lighting. And that's a shame since it's one of the main features of the edge. Issue 3: the information stream is upside down when my phone is on its back. It is supposed to flip, but doeant unless i shake my phone around a bit. Issue 4: googles voice detect on any screen option disappeared. I can only choose detect in app now. And finally everything is startin to lag. Moving between apps and even the camera quick open lag now.
If you have any ideas on how to fix all this, please help! This was a very expensive phone, and i expected more from samsung... i have already tried resetting, and even did a factory reset. Nothing has changed.
On a positive note my battery life has been great since i got the phone!
Just got my phantom black, 12/256 exynos version delivered today, been using it since this morning and I noticed that on mobile data I have little to no connection even though the 5g icon is stable in the Taskbar, as soon as I connect to wifi everything runs normally. I also had the purple glitch when touching the fingerprint sensor but solved it by disabling the dinamic animated lock screen wallpaper and putting in a normal, static one.
Another issue is that the phone locks itself (goes to lock screen) while browsing the apps (just like double tapping on home screen) but not while using any app.
I hope this is just firmware issue since they are shipping all the phones with the same firmware region based but maybe they still need feedback from some carriers (hence the mobile data issue) and also the display glitches I believe are nothing that a firmware update wouldn't fix.
P. S. : in these first few hours I didn't get at 1 hz refresh rate

With my xiaomi 12 pro if the screen brightness is dim it doesn't go to its lowest refresh rate. Increase the screen brightness and see if it goes to 1 hertz
I am having exactly all the same problems as OP with my 12/512 Exynos version. Now wondering if it is hardware or software issue with the screen glitching when using the fingerprint sensor. The glitch only occurs when using 3088x1440 wqhd+ resolution and dynamic animated lock screen. Position of the screen interference is always the same but can differ in size.

That’s most definitely in need of a screen replacement. That’sa hardware failure. I would think one could get that fixed for free

Could this also be a YouTube thing also? Like how Netflix has to certify certain devices in order to use HDR content. Maybe these new 2.0 panels need to have apps updated to work with them.

They forgot to mention one thing. The adaptive refresh rate only works, if your brightness is above 8% or ambient light sensor reads more than 40 lux.
So if you are some like me, with low brightness and low ambient light, get ready for your battery to dissappear as it will be stuck at 120Hz...
on some forums it is mentioned that on Vivis setting for display, the problem does not occur anymore; can you confirm?
anyway, the fact that these artefacts are not displayed when in FHD setting, shows that it is not a display problem, but a software or GPU
I've posted this in a separate thread. I don't think my issue is linked to the screen issues described here. I have a flashing green pixel. Seems like hardware. See the pics.
I have a mountain of problems too, with S22 Ultra black 12/256.
I've got:
Overheating and rebooting in my pocket when doing nothing
Random hanging whilst scrolling down a long list
Intermittent flashing green dots (I think four) across the screen
Horrendous battery life (had it for only 48 hours, but still)
S-Pen sometimes doesn't fire the Air Actions menu when removed (or basically just doesn't notice it's been removed?)
And not really a problem, but after 4 generations it still can't record HDR and 60 frames per second, when in 4k.
This is a huge disappointment, and the fastest tech return ever from me.
