Family Link doesn't allow enabling location - General Questions and Answers

Hey guise, I've set up my daughter with a Google account and her phone has the Family Link app. Now she wants to use GPS on the phone, but Family Link denies every attempt to enable location on the device.
The phone runs Android 9 and I've updated the parental control app to the latest version. I've tried enabling location sharing but that didn't work either.
Any idea?

Turned out to be an antenna problem. There's too little signal for the device to get a fix on its position.

Question About Installing AndroidLost Apps

Greetings -Not sure if this is the right forum for this question, but here it goes anyway...
I installed the AndroidLost APPS onmy Samsung Fascinate...All went well and I'm able to signon to their website...
However not getting any results when clicking the GPS tab to get the phone's location sent to my e-mail account...
I don't have GPS active on my device(have not yet downloaded the apps for that with the vendor)...
Do I need to have GPS active in order to get the location?...I know it sounds like a silly question, but I was under the
impression that I would be able to get the location via the network & GPS would not be required...Any assitance would
be greatly appreciated...Thank you...
From the original website:
View on map
Find the location of your phone on a map. With AndroidLost you can find your phone with GPS precision. Even if the phone is indoor you will get a nearby location by network accuracy.

It does not talk about other network, I suggest you to try other apps like avast (you install it and it ask about the anti theft, after that you can uninstall the antivirus keeping the antitheft, it's free and if you're rooted it can resist to hard reset) or prey (free, open source). Avast can send you an hidden sms with the position of your phone and so do prey. I've also heard about wavesecure and cerberus a lot..
BTW you can determine the position of your phone with 3 things:
-WIFI (must be on an connected to a net, it can be turned on by some application)
-GPS (must be on manually, I think this one can't be turned on by apps)
-you phone network (avast can turn on data connection)
I suggest you to try these different solution to find the best working one for you

[Q] Remotely Turn on GPS To Track Lost Redmi URGENT

Ok, so my phone was recently stolen. It's a Redmi 1S. Location settings are off but has internet connection. Whatsapp is still active on the phone as well as the google account.
I'm able to access some features like remote lock through Android Device Manager.
I find it strange that the phone has not been resetted and the account removed yet, but I was able to lock the phone.
I was able to remotely lock the phone using ADM and I also had the idea of using the browser play store to install an app whenever it connects to the internet.
But, the location settings are off so I am unable to locate it.. is there any way to enable the setting remotely? If I am able to remote lock should there not be a way to turn on GPS remotely?
Is there any app that would turn on GPS as soon as it is installed? That might help...
Looking forward to a few quick and helpful answers..

[Q] Trusted Places on Nexus 5

Is anybody else having issues getting the new "Trusted Places" Smartlock option to work?
I have 2 google accounts, root access and a custom kernel, and can't figure out what I'm doing wrong.
Running Official Lollipop Factory Image and Franco Kernel.
I have location services turned on for both accounts, and I've also tried using Google Maps defined locations and Custom Locations to my exact position, still get a pin lock prompt every time.
Applied the xxx.438 file from APKMirror.
Cheers All.
I am running stock Lollipop on my N5. When I told trusted places to use my work address it didn't work. I modified the address a little (large campus) and it worked then. However as I walk around the campus the screen will lock again. When I used the map to mark my location, it worked as well. At home it works great. Only caveat is battery life seems to take a slight hit using Trusted Places. The GPS fires up when you wake the device up at the PIN screen.
I just wish Google would have allowed WiFi locations as well. I had a Tasker / Secure Settings profile setup that would unlock based on WiFi that worked great. Secure Settings isn't 100% Lollipop compatible yet. The developer is said to be working on it.

I'm guessing the OP has the latest version of Play Services since he is able to add a trusted place and he said he applied the xxx.438 apk.
thanks - didn't realize op meant .438 apk for the 6.5 play services.
Cheers all. A new revision of 438 was released today. Working properly now. Thread can be closed.

Still doesn't work for me...
Doesn't seem to work for me...
Using the Google Play Services 6.5.87 (1599771-438), I set my trusted location to a custom location that's the place where I am (at home) - not the google maps location as it is a bit off - but I always need to swipe the pattern. Am I doing something wrong? Anyone else for whom it doesn't work?
It works just fine for the trusted devices and I can see the location icon in the status bar every time I unlock the phone.

[Q] SmartLock almost never works

Since a while I'm having big problems with SmartLock Trusted Places. When I'm @ home and having the home address from Google Maps enabled, it almost never works.
If I manually add my neighbors addresses as well it works for the moment but that result does not last.
If I go into the settings and add something it updates my location to the very address that is added automatically by enabling Home from Google Maps.
Location and location history is enabled on the device.
High accuracy, battery saving & device only all get the same result, it does not work.
Running 5.1 with Google Play services 7.0.97 (-438).
Does it work for you?
I actually just logged on to ask the same thing. It's been this way ever since 7.x dropped. It's so frustrating all the issues this new play services has caused.

Disable New WiFi Feature in Android 5.1.1

Hello Everyone,
I recently upgraded to CM 12.1 and discovered that my WiFi won't automatically connect to my router anymore if it doesn't detect access to the internet (I'm in China and Google is Blocked). I believe this explains why this is happening as there is internet and having to manually connect each time is annoying at least Is there a way to disable this "new feature" ?
Regards,
Bob
In Settings, got to WiFi, press the menu button in the top right and there should be an Advanced settings section or something similar (sometimes varies based on ROM/Language). Then untick the Avoid poor connection option. This should resolve your problem. If not, you may not have the correct firmware for 5.1.1
I already have Avoid poor connections unchecked. Any other way to fix this?
Does anyone have any ideas? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
Try disable mobile data before connect to wifi, maybe this way should help

I have the EXACT same problem - it really does happen because you're in China and the method of internet access testing is through Google servers blocked in here.
I'm still trying to figure out how to disable the test or maybe reroute the destination.
It would definitely be a temporary solution to make the VPN active 24/7 if you put it on the router instead of on the phone / computer etc.
Let us know if you find a solution!

this was a very popular and general problem for every Chinese user with google service device.
you have to root your phone and manually change the google server address to a local substitute site, or just turn off the google server detect.
the easiest way is to use an APK developed by Chinese to have all these things done in a click.
search NoExclamation Portal Server 1.5

came here with a google search. this problem is generic to later android versions. i'm on cyanogenmod 12.1 which is i gather is android 5.1.
looking at DNS logs, it tries to access: http://connectivitycheck.android.com - which redirects to google and fails as it's blocked by the GFW.
just downloading the chinese apk to fix it... the link to it i found is: http://m.hiapphere.com/apk-org.foxteam.noisyfox.noexclamation
EDIT: so now got noexclamation the app running, but not sure it's doing anything. UI is in chinese, not sure what options to deal with and how. anyone have success with it?
EDIT2: it's like this: install the app. leave it at defaults where it's using the developers website for connectivity check. toggle it ON if it's not already (i believe needs root). reset network settings by toggling airline mode ON/OFFl. you're good.
however - conceptually better fix would is to take the "feature" OUT, not alter the server that it's checking the accessibility of. from the chinese thread, i gather this will get done by:
su
settings put global captive_portal_detection_enabled 0
this seems to survive reboot as well. problem solved, end of monologue!
