General [ROM] Lineage 20.0 - Google Pixel 6a

While looking for ROMs I found this that didn't make it to our page. Here's the link
[ROM][UNOFFICIAL][raven/oriole/bluejay] LineageOS 20.0 for the Pixel 6 Pro/6/6a
LineageOS 20.0 for the Pixel 6 Pro (raven), Pixel 6 (oriole), and Pixel 6a (bluejay). Known issues: NOTE: This is an early-stage build, and may not be the most stable. It's more stable than it was when I starting building. The status bar is...
forum.xda-developers.com

How "different" do the codes have to be for 6/6a/6 Pro? I remember that there was a separate thread on xda for OnePlus 3/3T development, because it was possible to write code that "worked" on both devices.
Could there be something like that for the Pixel 6 lineup?
Edit: Well, it mostly seems like the 6a is the odd one out, it's mostly the 6 and the 6 Pro that can use the same code.

There are obviously different device trees and vendor binaries but most is the same. I build all 3.

I know very little about coding (or even about what a vendor binary is, for that matter), but how much extra effort is it to make a ROM compatible with all three devices?

Not much extra effort after the initial bring up.

Sorry for OT...
Main thing that, well, annoys the crap outta me is that there's more than a few great looking kernel's I'd love to try out but noo...P6/P6P only. So things aren't THAT common between the P6 phones. I'd guess it has something to do with the huge gap between the P6/P6P and the P6a launch dates. Like maybe the P6/P6P are 2 limbs growin' on their own branch and P6a is on a lower (later) branch all alone Back on my 4a I was on eng_stk's Blu_Spark and luved it...got my 6a and was thrilled when I seen his kernal...then realized it was P6/P6P only. Maybe we'll see more eventually cuz atm there's like 2 or 3 at most...if u know where to look. Ok I done whining now...

I did find out some information on porting roms... Ill give it a shot this weekend and post what I come up with.

That's a choice the developers are making. The source between them on the kernel side is effectively identical. Same code, different build commands.

[Q] Trying to understand the camera issue with ROMs

Noob to this.
So I let me try to understand this:
When I flash a ROM, for some reason, everything pretty much works as intended aside from the CAMERA?
Something about camera blobs?
Why isn't the camera being copied from the stock (official / factory) ROM?
Thanks!

I am running official LineageOS.
First, camera will force-close if I use HDR.
Second, the quality seems to be pretty lacking compared to what I remembered from the old days of using the 1 (see here also: http://bit.ly/2AhBe5T)
Third, as I try to read and learn, I came across this "camera blobs" thingy/issue. What is that? Is this because the OEM won't release camera source code? So devs have to build their own (which is not as good)? Or am I way off?
Thanks again!
yeah you're right they're usually closed source but the opos one is made by cm so linage is using the exact same. The color os blobs is what the Chinese version used which is far more superior also sultan has a modified oxygen os one. My personal favourite is the color os one by miles because the front camera on snapchat isnt soft/smudged looking. I cant use Anything with the linageos/cm blobs/hal, its such a downfall for me personally.

Good explenation.
Let me ask: is it not possible to get the official OxygenOS camera on my LineageOS 14.1 ROM?
PS - why do the OEM not allow this? Why do they close the source code? To keep their intellectual property since they developed it)?
Also pinging the helpful @Mr.Ak

They can't release it due to copy rights i think? I'm not sure, and theres 3 oxygen os drivers. The first one which was open sourced (the one sultan uses), the 2nd which is pretty much ignored and the 3rd from the oneplus X port (nearly everyone prefers this one).
I dont like the port one due to lack of 4k in recording, the laggy view frame and i cant notice any quality difference between that and the color os one.
And for your question, there is a way after flashing things but personally i wouldnt do it due to linage not being coded for it.
My honest and best solution is to flash AEX sultanized : https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=889764386195923064
It's a very well built rom, fluid and everything works great and was my daily rom until i switched phones. Its very well rounded, not exactly the best at EVERYTHING, but its the best well rounded rom.
But if you want color os then go with ommi but i dont rate that rom personally, quite sluggish and plain, doesnt offer much except from the camera.
And if you wanna try the oxygen driver from the opx port then XOS unofficial will be your best bet, ill give it to them that rom has by far the best battery by miles BUT the performance is a major hit.
I'd suggest sultans rom too but AEX is more fluid and offers much more features (if you're into it, i wasnt but i did find some useful stuff)

Will this phone support Project Treble?

I assume that since the Mi Mix 2s ships with Oreo that it will support Project Treble, is this correct?
Will this make custom ROMs easier to make? Will we still need to wait for sources?
Yes, it will support Project Treble so making a custom ROM should be quite easy. Hopefully @skeleton1911 makes one for Mix 2S because his work is awesome.

Clean AOSP MIUI based ROM.
Pre-rooted with Magisk and de-bloated from Chinese apps, it was probably the first thing that interested me while looking at Mix 2's ROMs and probably the very first ROM I would instantly flash after buying Mix 2, aiming for MIUI features without useless stuff.

I work on a military base for a nuclear missiles which requires secure devices. There are very few devices that are allowed there. Samsung and apple being the main ones. Most of the Chinese OEM are banned from use and depending on your job, you cant even own a device from some of them.
That may happen but to be honest I am not a LOS supporter. Too many issues left over from the CM days. Like random reboots, data corruption and issues with BT and WIFI.
Im sure there will be rom ports for the device.

Personally I don't care much about AOSP's, not just because I don't like it but also because I buy a Samsung phone for the hardware/software they offer, so I don't expect someone to do necessarily an AOSP ROM for it (even tho I'm willing to help the devs that will be interested on it). So my reply is the following: Have you got enough patience to wait someone works on it? Yes, you wait for it while you stay on Stock ROM (it isn't bad tho, TouchWiz 2012/13 times are a far memory); No, you try to code yourself a working device tree/kernel or sell your A8 and get another phone that isn't a Samsung one

Well Exynos is headache for this same reason(unless some other OEM adopts it to ease things up), and also Samsung usually makes it hard for us to get any kind of opening with it's devices to build stuff for it. If you ask me, at this rate the pros of getting a Custom ROM in your device is getting outweighed by the cons. I would also agree that 'Samsung Experience' is far better than the 'TouchWiz' nightmare.

Graphene didn't work for me because all of the apps it came with were out of date and didn't work right, but given the fact that Calyx uses well known privacy focused apps, it looks like I'll be good to go once they've come out with their Android 13 update lol

Please don't write things that are demonstrably false. The truth is inverse of what you have written.
To be fair, the graphene apps have a popup that tells you its apps are not meant for your current version of android. Also they're in my opinion painful to look at because they don't comply to the system theme

Question ROM development still a thing for Pixels?

I returned to the Pixel line after several years with OnePlus, wasnt happy with the 9 pro at all. I know ROM development isn't as big as use to be to be across the board for all android devices but I remember running some sweet roms that had awesome features on my OG pixel.
How was the ROM development for those who came from the pixel 6 / 6 pro?
Sadly it's no longer what it used to be like.
6 series had 3 or 4 custom ROM and two were just secure version of aosp so no customizable

Yeah I figured that was the current trend. Hopefully we get one or two good ones to mess around with
I'm really pleased with the magisk module AOSP Mods, along with Repainter and Project Themer.
These enable many mods & themes, making stock feel like a custom rom in that sense, though without any of the potential bugs. Certainly keeping me happy until a custom rom option becomes available, but having a stable stock rom with the tweaks I'm used to is a nice setup.
Look at all the development for the Pixel 6 Pro (obviously, the Pixel 7 Pro just came out, so only one development thread so far).
+1 AOSP Mods
Pixels don't really get a lot of ROMs because there's not as much of a need. Pixels don't have a bunch of bloatware that people want to get rid of and the majority of custom ROMs for other devices are already pretend Pixels anyway using Pixel style launchers and spoofing Pixels to get their features like Call Screen besides the AOSP variants like Lineage or the privacy/security AOSP builds like Graphene and Calyx.

Development takes time and for Pixel phones that can be a while because they are the first to introduce features and standards that Google is rolling out for Android. The methods and procedures have to be updated and that adds on to the time.
The Pixel 1 was absolutely barren in the beginning, it had many underlying changes to how Android works, the ROMs you remember were all coming out towards the middle and end of the phone's life. It didn't get LineageOS official until 16 almost released, it took unofficial ports of 14 and 15 to work out the problems.
Same thing is happening again with the Pixel 6, and again with the Pixel 7. The scene was lucky that between the Pixel 3-5 there weren't that many large changes and development was rapid. Things are finally starting to pick back up for the Pixel 6 after Android 13 released, but it's still a work in progress. The Pixel 7 isn't that large of a step past the 6, however it's still going to take time to bring things over, probably a few by the end of the year and most others within 6 months.

I'm also curious about these, I'll definitely look them up. Are all three mods magisk modules?

Got it thanks. loving AOSP mods.
Because of how similar the 7 is to the 6, its actually off to a much faster start. It took a while for anything to come available for the 6, and in fact, I was the first to share a pure AOSP build for the 6pro. It took several weeks before GrapheneOS was available for the 6. It took less than ONE week for GrapheneOS to have first builds available for the 7 (go get it!).

If you use Pixel Launcher, you can look over at TeamFiles on Telegram. There's one module that allows you to select what themed icons you want to use as well. You can view some different styles below, the TeamFiles variant is close to Google's version and has 1000+ themed icons.

Can anyone confirm if PixelLauncherMods by KieronQuinn works on the P7 series? https://github.com/KieronQuinn/PixelLauncherMods
Thanks.

I am using it, but only to change the icons and it is working for that. Can't speak to the other features/modules in it.

I don't see why it wouldn't be the same as the Pixel 4 XL Android 13 experience, but yeah. Changing the icons worked fine, I didn't try replacing my Google Search widget, but I know changing the tint of the recents background didn't work either. If it does work, then make sure to turn off 'window-level blur' in developer settings otherwise your live preview of your current app would just be a blurry mess, lol.
