Hidden Settings in MIUI 13.... - General Topics

For some unknown reason, some of the stock Android features are hidden in MIUI. Fortunately, the features themselves work if you access the hidden settings using an activity manager such as the Shortcut Maker app.
Here are a few useful hidden settings that work well on MIUI 13 (Android 12):
1. Multiple Users
MIUI has hidden this very useful feature of stock Android in MIUI 13. Using activity manager, find UserSettingsActivity:

"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
This will give you access to Multiple Users. By default, MIUI allows you to setup what they call Second Space, which is a new user profile. Stock Android allows you to have 4 or 5 additional users, including Guest user (temporary profile).
I have setup Second Space, and Work Profile using Shelter app. This left me to setup 2 additional users with a permanent profile, and also a Guest user. So total 6 users (including Primary user or Owner) on MIUI 13!
2. Disable official YouTube app
If you go to Settings/ Apps/ Manage Apps on MIUI, you'll NOT see the option to disable the stock YouTube app. But using activity manager, find AppDashboardActivity:
This will allow you to disable many system apps, including YouTube.
Before trying this, I set the official YouTube app to not open any links. But MIUI kept overriding my setting and all YouTube links were opening only on the stock YouTube app. So I had to disable it to make the links open in Vanced YouTube. This problem is not there on OneUI 5 or OOS 13.
3. Special Access permissions
Using the same AppDashboardActivity setting mentioned in point 2 above, you can also find the Special Access permissions hidden in MIUI 13:

Reserved for additional info.

What doesn't work in MIUI 13 without unlocking bootloader/ custom recovery/ root:
1. Installing Mi Dialer to replace Google Dialer. Workarounds available online are NOT recommended.
2. Gesture navigation if a 3rd party launcher is set as default. There are some workarounds for this that you can try though using FNG app.

Please Share your Best Apps you have installed on your amazing Mate 8 (excluding facebook,whatsapp and other common apps)
please share apps like music player or mods, camera apps, utilities, tools etc. Rooted or Non Rooted Devices.
Mate 8 is an amazing phone but it has its weaknesses. One weakness is its data manager which has very limited views i.e. App level usage.
So I use My Data Manager. It's free, accurate, and very user friendly.
Think for yourself. Question authority.
Xposed framework is the best i installed with minminguard, greenify, and amplifly gives you a very solid battery.

[APP][4.1+][NO ROOT]DPI Changer

Sometimes you just don't like the size of the items on your screen. If you're lucky, your phone's software has its own DPI changer of sorts, where you can choose among a few different presets, but what if you want more options, or you aren't one of the lucky few with that feature?
Well, this app aims to fix that problem on any Android device running 4.1 or later. There are quite a few apps out there that change your DPI, but this one doesn't actually require root, even if you aren't running Nougat. You will have to reboot if you aren't rooted, but hey, that's better than being around a computer all the time to use ADB, right?
There are instructions in the app for the setup and usage.
IMPORTANT:
- I don't know if this will work on every device running Android 4.1+. I was able to test it on an emulator running 4.1, along with various LG and Samsung devices on Marshmallow and Nougat, but that obviously doesn't include everything. Send some feedback if it isn't working for you, and include your device + Android version.
- Non-root mode requires you to execute a one-time ADB command (unless you uninstall and reinstall the app). From then on, all you'll need is a reboot.
- Avoid setting the DPI below 72. I don't specifically know what happens, but I know Android tools prevent this from happening by default. I will build the limit into this app in a future update.

@ProGuy1 if you can use ADB to change your DPI, that's great! But some people don't know how or don't have constant access to a computer. I figured rebooting would be more convenient than finding a computer with ADB.
Also, devices on 4.3 and above no longer need to reboot, whether rooted or not.
@S. Loranca You can certainly translate it if you want. The source code is on GitHub. Look in `/res/values/strings.xml`.

Thanks for making this! I saw the "Display Size" setting missing on my new Xiaomi phablet; a few apps I tried on the play store failed, but this app works perfectly.
For reasons you'll see soon, I'm removing this project from XDA and closing the thread. If you have the app right now, email me or PM me with any questions.

Hi there,
I'm so glad I came across your post. I've been trying to figure out how this feature works in my unrooted Lenovo M10 HD 2ndGen tablet. I see it in Settings/Sound/Sound Enhancement with only one solitary setting and when enabled, nothing changes. Sound is what it has always been, the same, then and now. I've had my tablet for a year now. My question is how does this feature work ? What does BesLoudness require in order to work ? I have disabled certain features of my tablet for security and privacy reasons, for the same reason, some apps are disabled like Maps, Social Media apps. I have also disallowed certain permissions for certain apps that I felt no need to allow since I never used the feature the permission was required for. Somewhere along the way I might have disabled certain settings, or disallowed permissions that unknowingly rendered BesLoudness not to work.
This BesLoudness Volume Booster for Speakers has stumped me for a year now. Thank you for reading this.

Changing Default Apps

I'm trying to change the default calling app on either my Tablet (Vankyo Z1) or Phone (Note 20 Ultra) to use Talkatone. I Understand Android doesnt seem to allow this switch in general, but can it be done with rooting or custom rom? Ive noticed that this seems to be universal, but no real reason why it is set this way and unadjustable. Any help is appreciated.
AFAIK Vanco Z1 is running Android 8.1 and Note 20 Utra is running Android 13.
Nevertheless, on both devices , without further ado , to change your default calling app / dialer, you
Open Settings.
Select Apps or search for Default apps in the Search bar.
Open Default apps. On some skins, you can find Default apps settings under the 3-dots menu.
Open Phone or Dialer.
Select the app you prefer as your default by toggling it.

Thanks so much for the reply! But on both of my devices, no other calling apps are available in the final part of your instructions. I noticed the "set default apps" on the app menu, however when it comes to the phone, there are no other options. I assume this is a block by the system, do you know how I may overcome this?
