Hey all, first time pixel owner here (p7p). Previous phones were one plus devices. I love the option of a 3 finger swipe down for screenshot. Anyone know of a no-root solution to this? Like an app? I really hate using buttons, status bar shortcuts, and app switch to get a screen shot on this device. Thanks in advance!
I came from an OP9P and the best option that I found on my new pixel is the double tap at the back of the phone, the things that I miss are the biometrical authentication to access to any app you want and the hiding apps

thanks for the reply. I saw that and it won't work for me. I usually am not physically holding my phone when I need a screenshot.

i know it's not as simple as 3-finger swipe for a screenshot, but as a workaround until you find a acceptable solution, if it's an issue of taking a screenshot but not being able to physically hold your phone, you could always ask Google Assistant to take the screenshot for you....
*Although, I don't know how you could do a 3-finger swipe without being able to physically hold your phone either.... (I guess you need to take a screenshot while the phone is laying flat face-up[?])
@thejase question, how are not able to hold your device when taking a screenshot? Even with the 3 finger swipe, you are asking, do you still have to hold your device?
I mean I use one hand to hold the device, and the other hand to tap the back for the screenshot. Works great, although sometimes I have to give a good tap, due to my case on the device.

The device is sitting upright in the top lid of a toolbox. So USB port facing floor. I'd rather not use Google assistant to take a ss. Three finger swipe is really the best implementation for me.
I feel ya. I just hate that it's this hard to get something that does something so simple.
Unfortunately without root, it's not possible.
I will say that with root and AOSP Mods, I was able to add a two finger swipe up from the nav bar to take a screenshot and as an added bonus, it's an insecure screenshot, so I can use it in apps that don't allow taking screenshots (like Xfinity for some stupid reason - why they block screenshots on the data usage screen is beyond me).
Hey all. Just an FYI. I was able to do something similar with a swipe down along the top left edge of the screen using macrodroid. If you've never used it, I highly recommend it. I never pay for apps and it's worth the money! Forgot I had it from long ago. Can automate many many things.
Just hit the recent apps button and then tap screenshot.

Disagree. Only works if phone is picked up in hand. I use it supported vertically in my toolbox lid @ work (think: pixel stand position).

I have set up 2 finger swipe in aospmods as well as allow unrestricted screenshot but when swiping in bank app for example screenshot is black. Only using voldown and power button takes it ok
You could also use an app like LMT and have a screenshot as a shortcut.
Works in your hand & on the table.

Strange. Works fine for me. You can see here I did a two finger swipe and then I took a regular screenshot while the app was still up and that one was black as expected.

And how exactly do you launch the app when you can't get to your app drawer except from your home screen? Kind of stupid, if you ask me. You should make it so that it keeps a persistent notification that takes you home when selected, because the notification bar is everywhere, the app drawer button is not.

I use the app called switchpad to put it as a menu attached to one edge of my screen.
I am just a beginner developer so I will attempt to include the persistent notification feature in my next release.

It's a fantastic idea, but I'm not familiar with switchpad. It's a great start, but I think the most mainstream usage of it would be the persistent notification.
I didn't mean to come off as sharp, I know developing takes time and effort, so keep at it
Thanks
I'm currently working on the persistent notification, and have added it. Im just double checking everything works properly before release...
The release after this will have an option as to enable it or not haha.
John
You can also use an app called LaunchKey that attaches to the long press of your search button. This may help for those with just a broken home button.
I am not familiar with the app from above, but WaveLauncher would work as well. It allows gestures from the area of the screen you define (similar to the swipe up on the Palm Pre). It also has a nifty feature that if you press and hold for a user defined time on the gesture area, it will launch its own app drawer from within any application.
Great job on this simple but useful app! Keep it up! I know a few people with broken buttons that may benefit from this.
I use an app called zMooth which replaces the Menu, Home and Back buttons with swipe gestures that you make at the bottom of the screen.
Here is a video of it running on my Droid X, the video is a little choppy but it gives you an idea of how it works.

I prefer it this way because I use wavelauncher and I don't need another app running in background
Launcher pro short cut can also do this
I too use swipe pad a must for big screen like sgs2,n I too felt the need for a way to trigger home,i googled but cudnt find any thing but just few days ago I tried to put launcher pro as short cut on the swipe pad n it did the trick ,wht am I now missing is a way to to show recent app ,as u normally get by holding ur home button any one knows the way to it,
And how is this different from using Home Manager to create a shortcut to your home screen to use with SwipePad? Home Manager simply allows me to do all what your app can do and even more, like switching between launchers and shortcut on the notification bar

animated blinking Cat eyes with phone in sleep mode
Credits go to this poster and app http://forum.xda-developEsers.com/showthread.php?p=63813360
I found many hidden menus and testing apps on my unrooted lg v10 with quickshortcutmaker. My favorite one was for the second screen which also can send test notifications.
Those are the prettiest ones by far.
Here are other things that the second screen can do.
this is a side scrolling message
this one the purple water waves with phone
movement
Plus many other various hidden setting and testing items
There are many more but these are the most
Important ones. Lollipop's hidden eggs can
also be directly accessed with quickshortcutmaker.
Etc...
I hope this can help some Devs here.
To see + enable the animated Cat eyes I used QuickSortcutMaker
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...sQBVRDIyoVhMbwwZg&sig2=eoxS0Im6KoCtNESCbndlKA it is free and very simaler to a file manager but it only sees installed .apks and modules.
Open QuickShortcutMaker when installer is finished
Set QuickShortcutMaker to use incremental search
Stay in the Activities view column
Search for SignBoardTest
Expand it
Select the item directly below in it's heirchy
Create a shortcut in QuickShortcutMaker
In the Sub screen that opens tap test or create
Once done Open SignBoardTest
Select Sample Runs/EventListener Test
Being careful not to accidentally tap anything here
Scroll all the way down to the bottom
Below the Show SignBoard Only heading
Tap on Yes, Sir
Tap again to stop
I don't recommend leaving the animated
Cats eyes running for long periods.
Although it does look really kewl. It is brighter than the normally displayed time.
It may cause burn-in marks eventually.
If you are like me, ofc you will have to "test
out" all the other settings there too, lol.
If you do just be sure to either tap Stop, Cancel or
re-tap the setting again to stop it.
Plus remember what you did and where.
Or you might end up with strange notifications
on your phone for weeks. Don't say I didn't
warn you.
Also inside SignBoard Test/Notification Config
The length of time the second screen displays notifications can be adjusted permentally until you change it.
Hint: Most of the hidden test and setting menus I found have the words lge, system, ui, Verizon, VZW, android, egg, hidden, secret or test in their names.
There are lots more...
I'm wondering if "Eva" is going to be LG's Siri
Can't find this...can you post more instructions....how'd you get those eyes up there?
Seems like an ongoing notification... This is what I have while screen on.

I have yet to find everything listed. However the eyes can be turned on using the app mentioned in op, look for "sign board test" then choose "sample runs" next pick "event listener test" scroll down and click "yes sir" = profit the blinking eyes.
Now I'd prefer to have something more custom but haven't figured out how that was accomplished.
Oh and with the eyes enabled you've given up any other function of the second screen. Well at least that's my experience so far as I've just started messing with this. I very well may be wrong. That ish happens all the time with me. At least I'm learning right?
Anyway thanks to the OP for the hint in the right direction.

Wake up screen home button
What i would like to see is an app that wakes up/ unlocks my Note 5 screen when is turned off. And that doesn't effect the battery that much, like 5-6 percent all day usage. Thnx
Thats not possible anymore unfortunately.
Works great but itd be nice to have a quick toggle to turn this function on or off easily without having to open the app as it interferes with fingerprint verification. I see the blacklist option but I haven't been able to get that option to work, and I tried multiple apps that required verification.
Thanks for pointing that out. Found the bug. will be fixed in next release. Uploading soon.
No blacklist needed for that
I'll definitely keep an eye for the update, I went ahead and got pro cause I really like this app VS other similar ones as there are more options.. And I think having blacklist is better than having to need to toggle on and off
How different is it from the app finger touch
It is way way slower than fingertouch service app.

I like this a lot more than the other one, no burst of vibration on even half a second touch.
One down side is vibration is not consistant, sometimes I get a single vibration and other times dont get vibration at all, which I much prefer.
Nice work nevertheless.

easyHome was created over 1,5 jears ago. It has gained lots of features and functionality over this time and works pretty flawless currently.
You can use long press actions, haptic feedback, blacklist apps and authenticate in browser or similar without problems.
So far the new update seems to be alot better, I haven't been able to go through all of the verification needed apps to make sure but my most important ones are working.
I personally like this app over fingertouch because of the hold to launch an action, and also having the feedback option to be able to discern when a proper action was attempted or not, is a big plus for me. Maybe not haptic feedback but having sound feedback is nice for doing the long command.
Fingertouch works great too. Having a nougat quick tile is nice for when things aren't working properly. But although any tap on the sensor will go to home, since it uses your setup fingerprint signature for a reference in some way, if the finger your using isn't one setup in your system it will vibrate like a failed fingerprint attempt. I only have (1) thumbprint setup for verification in my phone but I don't always use that setup thumb to tap to go home. So I was constantly getting an error vibration and it threw me off. Also with fingertouch, you have to toggle on and off when needing to use fingerprint verification since it doesn't have a feature that will allow you to do both actions at the same time.
Yes, but i have to buy it... Other app is free and does the same.

I've been using this app very heavily the last two days as I'm off of work for a short period. Once I installed the update in the OP , I noticed that the only real issue I've had at all, is sometimes if I enter into either the Google app or Chrome but on e I enter those programs easyhome no longer works, it shows it running in the notifications but untill I turn my screen off and right back on, the easy home function doesn't work.. I don't have that problem at all if I try to enter in samsung Internet beta.. Only really an issue when using GA, otherwise I use samsung net.
I had another little hiccup trying to verify a purchase on Google play but I'd imagine that the nature of the beast when turning the senor into a capacitive button. I went to purchase an app and it immediately prompted me to use my worded password cause fingerprint wasn't available at that time. I closed easyhome and then I was able to use my print.
I recently started using easyhome and a double tap to wake app to save my ADD button presses and i really like both
When I open folder from home screen, start an app within folder, and touch home button, this takes the screen back to the folder, not back to the home screen.
UPDATE
Samething when I repeat the above procedure, from app drawer folder instead.
Just wondering, is this intended?

Hi. Nice app. But I am having a problem. Most of the time, only a white border will appear around my screen, but no screenshot was taken. I had to close/reopen app, or try numerous times.

Can you send me a screenshot (power + volume down) of this case?
EDIT: Does this phone have a battery saver? It could be a problem. Screenshot Assistant have to be exluded from battery saving.

This app replaces Google Assistant which is responsible for OK Google. Maybe I could fix it somehow. I'll look at this problem.
Thank you, nice app!

Wow, this is extremely responsive on both my axon 7 and oneplus 3.
I would definitely be willing to pay extra for a version with a scrolling screenshot.. This app is too good!!! ?? Excellent work!

You can see in 1st attachment, there is a white border, but after that, nothing happen. Also sometimes, very rarely, the screenshot taken after a few seconds that white border gone.
In 2nd attachment showing that I excluded this app from battery optimization.
If you cant figure it out, maybe a logcat can help? I can try to get it if you want. This app is supercoll because my power button will be dead soon, so Im trying to use my power button lesser than before.
Why is it targeting a website upon capture? I could be wrong but my internet filter is blocking it

What do you mean by "scrolling screenshot"?

Such behavior indicates that something is killing Screenshot Assistant.
I've seen on the screenshot, that you're using Greenify. Make sure Screenshot Assistant is excluded from Greenify's hibernation.
On oneplus 3 you can take a long screenshot. If you have an article it can scroll down and capture more than just size of screen. Like doing a panoramic pic but vertically
Interesting. It works only in a browser or also in applications like Messenger or Phone contacts? Does it work with Google Chrome?
Can you add status bar and soft navigation bar in the screenshot?
Thank you very much!
I'm afraid I can't add status bar and navigation. The app receives screenshot from the system after you hold Home button. System sends it without status bar and navigation bars, so I don't have a control over it.

I have try some app but it can't take full screen as well...
Thank you. Keep going bro.
Doesn't working for me on LOS 14.1!
EDIT: Yes! Working now! All I had to do is change Long Press Setting on Buttons!
Btw, great app!
Works well on my Samsung Note 4.
Shame it can't be installed on my Samsung Tab S2 or Tab A tablets, it says device not compatible. Is there any reason why you prevent it from being installed on tablets?
Sorry I'm very outdated.
I'm coming from a OnePlus3 with a physical slider that lets me select those three modes conveniently.
It looks like I can press the volume button and then select icons for those three states, but curious how you're doing it!
Coming from an OnePlus 8T I do it the exact way you described. I think it's convenient enough, but maybe there is an even smarter way.
Well, you could always look for a 3rd party app...however here's what I do.
I use Nova Prime as my launcher primarily to be able to remove the (ugly and useless to me) Google search bar that is forced on us at the bottom of the screen whether we want it or not. But, another perk of using Nova is the ability to assign various gestures to do certain things. So I use the "two finger swipe down" gesture to open the settings directly to sound and vibration. You can use any of the available gestures that you desire. So all I have to do is swipe down on my screen with two fingers and voila the Sound and vibration screen from within settings opens to the same place that pressing the volume button and tapping a setting does! Easy-peasy-lemon-squeezy! I rarely ever have to press any of the physical buttons on my phones so they do not break, or wear out.
If you need more help how to accomplish this just let me know!
I use this as a widget on my home screen, works a treat:
Silent Mode Toggle - Apps on Google Play
Switch between sound, vibrate and silent mode from your home screen
play.google.com
Swype or touch the right / left side edge from any app.
Volume Control Panel - Apps on Google Play
Create your own unique custom volume panel style with added media controls!
play.google.com

That's interesting, I use Nova Prime too. I only use gestures to launch apps and never thought about doing anything else with them.
I tried as you said. When you do it, does it open the settings for Sound and Vibration? It doesn't trigger the same side UI as pressing the volume button does it?

Yes it opens the settings directly to Sound and Vibrations, not what opens when you press the volume key.
Pick the gesture you prefer > shortcuts > setting shortcut > Sound & vibration!

I use the Button mapper, and I have it mapped to a long press of the volume down to change the vibration/sound on (iOS style).
It works perfectly and there is no better solution! ;-)

My suggestion is a better solution if you value keeping your physical buttons in tip-top shape in case you plan to resell it someday. I rarely turn off my phone so I "never" need to push any of my physical buttons...rarely at best. So in my opinion my solution is better! YMMV

In your solution, you need to have the phone unlocked and do an "action" It's same as opening the sound manager and setting silent mode
My solution works even with the display off. I very quickly feel the volume button down and hold it 3sec in my pocket. A good response lets me know that I have silent mode.
I don't understand what button mapper has in common with resell. It's just a software thing, without any HW intervention.
