stock messaging app required for other apps?

Hey guys. So I was in terminal deleting the stock apps that I don't need to have and one of those apps which I deleted was the stock messaging app, I did this because I was using hancent. Well now I am not receiving text messages.
- It all started after I deleted the stock app, I am not sure if it started immediately after or a while after.
- I was using handcent and I noticed that I was getting the pop up received thing and the quick reply option but in the actual handcent app under each conversation the incoming message was not there.
- I then switched to chomp sms to see if that would fix it. Now I am not getting the quick reply popup message received (in chomp)
Are there any suggestions to fix this or knowledge about this topic? Do you need to have the stock messaging app inorder to have other messaging apps work correctly. Oh ya, outgoing messages are still being sent correctly.

Yes it is needed for other apps, that is why they have you turn off Messaging's notifications- so they can give them to you instead. They just read what messaging gets, they don't actually get the messages

Spam text messages

Hello.
I get a lot of spam text messages and I want to filter them out based on certain keywords. I am currently using Google hangouts. Is there any way I could block or filter them. I'd prefer that I keep using hangouts and not install a new messaging app.

Unfortunately no, you cannot with google hangouts.
Also, google hangouts MAY soon be dropping SMS support so you will need to install a new messaging app eventually.

Built in messaging app question

Overall I like the default messaging app, but it's missing a feature I use. I have a few friends who insist on using group messages, with the Google app I can mute that thread, I can't figure out how to do that with the default app. If there isn't a way to do it does anyone using the new update beta know if this changed?

SMS app for secret messages like MIUI SMS App

Hi guys, how are you all.
I am using Xiaomi Redmi Nite 4 with MIUI 9. In SMS app we can mark secret contacts and whenever these secret contacts will message you these messages will not appear in sms inbox instead we have to tap from search bar to down followed by the pin or pattern in order to access the secret messages. By this way no one can see the messages and the secret messages will recieve and stored.
Since tomorrow onwards I'll be shifting to Galaxy Note 5 device so I will badly miss this feature. Pls confirm on the following;
- Is there any way, if we could install xiaomi sms app in Note 5
- or is there any third party app which allows its users to get the sms from secret contacts in some personal inbox hidden somewhere in phone.
Please i need expert opinions.. thanks.

SMS blocking by keyword?

I am wondering if there is a way to block SMS by keyword using stock MIUI 12 and Android Messages app? Thank you ?
