Question Gboard's Assistant voice typing is jacked - Google Pixel 7 Pro

Anyone have any suggestions on how to get the Assistant voice typing option working in Gboard? I'm at my wits end trying to figure this sh!t out and believe I have tried everything I can find on the Internet, as well as my own tinkering. Everything was working fine, but then all of a sudden this morning it stopped and the Assistant voice typing option is grayed out saying You can't currently use Assistant voice typing. The following are things I've tried
clearing data/cache for Gboard, as well as the Google app - still says You can't currently use Assistant voice typing
removed my Google non-gmail account
uninstalling Gboard (beta) and Google app (beta), which leaves you with the system default versions - same message
updated Google app (beta) from Play Store - Assistant voice typing needs an update. Connect to Wi-Fi to automatically download
leave Gboard settings, go back and message returns - You can't currently use Assistant voice typing
switched to non-beta of Google app via APKmirror - same result as the beta
updated to non-beta of Gboard - You can't currently use Assistant voice typing
what else haven't I tried??

Hi, it seems like you are as desperate as I was about that stupid greyed out option. I searched for days until I found a solution at least for my case. Perhaps it also works for you.
These are the instructions I followed:
1. Go into Assistant Settings and select Language (Account-Settings -> Google Assistant -> Sprachen (German for Languages))
2. Remove secondary Language by clicking on it and in Radial-Menu selecting keine (German for "None") right at the top.
3. Go into Gboard-Settings, into Voice typing. Now the option of Assistant Voice Typing should be available. Activate it!
4. Go back into Language-Settings for Assistant and add secondary Language again. After that just check it the Assistant Voice Typing is still activated in The GBoard settings.
You might have to give it some time to download the necessary files. I first thought it did not work, but when I checked again a bit later, it did!
Hope this helps.

I believe I may have come across your post in my searches and unfortunately I have checked there to see if there were any secondary languages that may have caused this and there are none =(

I ran into the same problem when I added Spanish to my languages for Gboard. Then after that, Google voice assisted typing worked intermittently. There were times that it didn't work, and then times that it did.
My remedy was sticking to just an English keyboard and flashing a whole new rom since I do it every month. I also wiped user data, because I thought whatever caused the problem was in user data.
Then it started working again. Whatever it is by Google, it's a nasty bug.

I've noticed in the settings, it says that I can't use it at times, but when I go to use it, it works perfectly fine.
Another thing is, if you're rooted, you can used rBoard to enable the flag NGA(New Google Assistant), but you will have to first do the fix for the flags by pasting the files they give into your /data/data/ folder to fix whatever Google did to the keyboard that breaks rBoard at the moment.

yes, I feel the same way in that it's a nasty bug that is somehow related to languages. tried too many things that I don't remember now, but I believe this started happening after I had added Japanese as a second language somewhere. removing any traces of it did not fix it and I fear unless it's fixed that the only way to fix now is to either wipe or find the cause and report it...

do you have a link to this rBoard app? searches turn up rBoard theme manager, but the screenshots of the app do not look anything like yours... are you saying that rBoard breaks or GBoard when it comes to fixing the files in /data/data? does this mean you run this fix from time to time to get NGA working?

That's correct. It does a lot of things actually. You can even make your own custom themes for GBoard as well as enable different flags that aren't enabled by default.
Here's the XDA link for rBoard linking to the downloads.
[APP] Rboard Theme Manager
*require root* Rboard Theme Manager Manager app for Google Gboard keyboard app. Continuation of Magisk module "Rboard themes" with more customizations and themes. Rboard Themes are not overlays but just additional themes for Gboard app...
forum.xda-developers.com
There's been an uprise lately with XDA vs Telegram and whatnot, but based on what I read on the other thread, this doesn't violate the rules since you're not required to join the group to see this post, so...
Rboard Themes
New fix for flags until we figure it out why this happens: • Download • Extract it to /data/data/com.google.android.inputmethod.latin/shared_prefs • Force close Gboard flags should work now
t.me
This post here will tell you what to do do get rBoard working correctly. Root is required and you have to do this every time you update GBoard since it'll replace what you've done. You can turn off updating so you don't have to do it every time.
Feel free to PM me(or post here so others can see) and I'll happily guide you through whatever you need help with so that you get the hang of the app.

If you are rooted there are some Magisk mods that screw up ASI, which can impact voice input among other things. Pixilify screwed things up for me

I was in fact rooted and using Pixelify... were you able to fix whatever issues you had with Pixelify? seems like disabling it as a test does not fix anything on my end regarding this issue...

Possibly trying to disable every accessibility will work. Tried it and after a day or so it worked(not grayed anymore)

I had to factory reset it. I tried uninstalling ASI updates first with no luck. After a clean install everything works perfectly, without Pixelify. I lost voice text, live translate, Now Playing, and transcribe. I'm sure there were other features that it broke.
The only Pixelify mod I enabled was unlimited Photos storage.

yes, after your mention and my original suspicions I decided to look more closely into this Pixelify module. what I found and confirmed is that even if you only enable the unlimited Photos storage, there are other things that get installed/modified and one of them is ASI!! I've gone through the install script, as well as the files included in the module to comment out everything not dealing with the unlimited Photos mod. for extra measure I also removed the unneeded APKs and whatever else I could find from the module and repackaged it as a custom module for my own use. so far... it seems to be working!!

Just putting in my thoughts on the whole Pixelify thing, but I said I avoid using that module since it's used to enable Pixel features on non-Pixel devices. Since we already have a Pixel, it changes a lot of settings when everything already works fine.
Other have claimed the other Pixelify(app) doesn't work for them, but maybe you guys can try it as well. Don't know if you guys were apart of the other thread or not, but open it, select Pixel XL, click force stop(grant root), then open Google Photos and back up something. After that, check the description of it at the very very bottom for this tag in the screenshot below.
As for Assistant Voice Typing, you'll have to use rBoard to manually enable it. I've linked it in my other post above with the fix to get it working.

Does flashing your modified module fix the issue or do you have to factory reset to revert the changes made to the ASI? I have the same problem where my now playing isn't working properly. Voice text, live translate, and transcribe seems to work well. I'm hesitant to factory reset the phone just for the now playing feature.

you can think of my module pretty much as a gutting of the original module so only the relevant bits pertaining to unlimited photos remain therefore it will not fix the issue without doing a factory reset unfortunately. you may be able to revert the changes by examining all the changes done and reversing them

I am considering the LSPosed approach as it does seem cleaner... I know a lot has changed since the XPosed days, but does LSPosed all SafetyNet to pass enough for GPay to work?

[armv6][APP][4.0+]Voice Search Wrapper for Google Now (Google Search)

Google Now voice input FC's (force-closes) on armv6 devices. Boo. Hiss. Part of the lib works, 'listen to tv' works.
Hotword detection is completely borked on armv6. Luckily you can turn it off in Google Settings after Now is installed or it'll FC like crazy too.
If you're into this kind of thing you may remember how cool it was when people got Google Now with Voice Search working for armv6 devices.
It doesn't work anymore on newer releases of Now.
The ics voice search assistant only works on Google Now (Velvet.apk) up to version 2.0 and Now is currently over v3.
So, I wanted to make something like the old search assistant for the current version of Google Now, since my lovely Optimus V obsolete phone is still kicking with Android 4.2.2 CM-11 unofficial.
I enjoy the voice controls. It's geeky. It's fun. It's somethiIng those uppity newer phone users lord over us cheapskates and diehards.
Even though Google Voice Search is froyo-era software, and online-only, it can still be used by Intent.
So...
I made an app. Widget actually. Press it, wait for the Voice Search box, and talk. It reroutes the transcript to Google Search (Now.) That includes OK Google commands, like 'call 555 555 1212' 'weather' etc. list of commands here and here
I couldn't get all the easter eggs to work, they may be in the hotword detector or libvcdecoder. Some do work though.
The talkback from Google Search still doesn't work with this gimmick. But you can talk into it at least.
This does not fix the mic icon on the Google search bar. Only allows a workaround for voice input via widget or long-press search key,
See this post to get around that.
Thanks again to Dovidhalevi for that tip.
Installation:
Get Voice Search on Play
get the apk from post 2, and install it.
If youve already got Google Now version 3.10 or higher sideloaded you can skip this next bit, go straight to fixing the Google Now settings.
I haven't been able to get either the launcher or Search to work installing from Play.
The Easy Way
Sideload the official apks from somewhere like androidpolice, and then you don't have to push anything to /data.
Here's the androidpolice 3.3 article with a download link.
The Harder Way
Get Now (and the launcher if you see fit) from the gapps here.
G Now is four files. /system/priv-app/Velvet.apk (chmod 644)
and three libs from /system/lib
libvcdecoder_jni.so, libgoogle_recognizer_jni_l.so, and libgoogle_hotword_jni.so (chmod 644)
(thanks to Dovidhalevi for pointing out the libvcdecoder.jni.so, I had missed that one.)
the launcher is /system/app/GoogleHome.apk (chmod 644) but it's not required.
you can 'adb install' Velvet, then adb push the three libs to /data/data/com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox/lib if you don't have space on /system.
Fix Google Search Settings!
once those files are installed,
1) immediately go into Google settings > Search & Now > Voice > "Ok Google" hotword detection, and turn it off.
2) Then back up one menu to Google settings > Search & Now > Voice, open Language and set it to something obscure like Hungarian (this avoids nasty FCs that happen to some users, thanks again Dovidhalevi for the tip!)
Important: If Search keeps closing on you, you need to make sure you changed the language in Google settings as listed in #2 from the previous paragraph.
If there's no setting to turn off hotword detection, the version is too old. try v3.10 or newer.
still get Search force closes? @rar**** posted a fix.
Usage:
The first time you run it there will (well, should) be a dialog asking what you want to use. Select Voice Search, Always.
(If there's not a dialog asking what to run for this action, go to Settings >Apps > Google Search and clear defaults. If that doesn't do it, clear defaults for Voice Search and VoiceSearchWrapper too.)
The widget can be activated by long-press search button. Another dialog should pop up. Select VoiceSearchWrapper, always.
Just tell it what to do, like after the hotword on a newer device. Instead of "Ok Google, weather" just say "weather."
This thread is to debug the apk. I've already gotten some great help from Dovidhalevi for the language settings, and Rar**** for the more comprehensive language workaround.
here is source, ADT project.
I know this doesn't match the template. I wanted to get source and binary UP though. I'll prettify this later.
known glitches:
Voice responses don't work (Search doesn't talk back to you, and the nonfunctional Easter eggs are talkbacks.)
'navigate to <location>' opens a web search for the text. Pressing enter in the search box corrects it to offer the Navigation app correctly targeted. ???
//edit: sideloading the apk from androidpolice instead of using the one from pa_gapps fixes this specific issue.
tested to function on:
lg optimus one,s,v cm11
galaxy mini cm10.1 (thanks damopi95 for testing)

Installed the wrapper app. Previously had the "on-line" voice search. BTW, this, along with Jeannie, etc., did work.
I did not get a dialog but got the voicesearch speak box immediately. Google search FC.
Running voicesearch itself similarly voice search FC. Did work before.
Jeannie still works.
This is off a Play store version of Google Search. Even if I simply place that velvet.apk in priv-app and symlink the libraries, there is still no room. I have 14meg free on system. Most of us trim less from the ROM so have even less available. The velvet.apk it itself 17meg. The libs, another 17meg but I have symlinked those off in the past. Were those libs compiled for armv6 (They are not opensource, usually come precompiled for armv7)?
The Velvet.apk is actually quite good in that it has the language models on it. Versions for our device will not let us download them. But this, along with the launcher being included, makes it too big. Play versions install as user app, include the recognizer lib inside (for armv7). Must be sideloaded.
I sideloaded the Velvet.apk
Pushed the libs to sd-ext, symlinked to /system/lib
Still does not work but will check after reboot.
P500 users will be very unlikely to get this stuff installed on /system/priv-app. BTW, no interest in "Ok Google," which would simply deplete the battery were it to work at all. BTW, Google will probably bump the app off Play unless the title gets changed--did that to the original ICS widget.

Thanks for the feedback.
Didn't plan to Play store this one, it's too hacky anyway. Hopefully they won't bump the beta but if they do I'll fix it.
The libs are armv7 but only parts of them are NEON or thumb2. So on my Optimus V (msm7627) the voice-recognition parts of those libs FC. The listen/broadcast to google server part of the recognizer lib seems to work though. (listen to TV finds the wrong shows but similar.)
without the hotword lib Now FC's even more than usual. With it installed but turned off there are no complaints in logcat about hotword.
After enough reboots my install of Now seems to have stabilized and doesn't FC very often unless I hit the mic icon by accident.
However, I am using the 'stock' pa gapps package except for the total unrunnables like chrome and the keyboard. ridiculous amount of system storage eaten up. Since I am running my whole phone except for the boot.img off my sd card storage space doesn't matter. So I hadn't tried the sideloaded .apk since moving past Velvet 2.0 and didn't realize it'd FC instead of running.
Though, your post in the ROM thread indicated you've had issues with Now being a FC-ing beast anyway even on text searches? I rarely ever have had it crash on text searches.
I will have to test sideloading the apk now.
//edit: yes, sideloading the apk from the gapps then pushing the two libgoogle_* libs to /data/data/com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox/lib works for me. Didn't even have to reboot.
My widget doesn't show anything before popping up voice search, unless search initializes slowly, then you see the 'voicesearchwrapper' dialog box for a sec.
All it's meant to do is pipe the text output from Voice Search into Now.
Also, to get the Android system selection box for what handles voice input for what function, I had to uninstall and reinstall Voice Search. Since you've already got different defaults selected I can imagine why it wouldn't hook right.

How do you run everything of sdcard? Using that OSD Rom? I might think that an sdcard is a bit slow for system but never noticed any lags from link2sd's placements on the sdcard.
See how you make out with a sideload, maybe there is a workaround? No way for most of us to shove this onto /system/priv-app.
BTW, there MAY be a way, sort of. The paid version of link2sd can symlink system dexes. But everything else still must fit on system. Symlinking dexes free a bit more /data space. Wondering about manually symlinking apps to /system/app and /system/priv-app. Unfortunately, kitkat ROMs do not necessarily respect such symlinks, possibly because built-in selinux policies (evidenced in file_context) do not include references to the target placements. This may be why I cannot upgrade omni sanely.

I run everything off the card with a modified boot process. But unlike Multirom or linking, it's stock Android code that does it for me now.
fstab.thunderc calls out /system and /data with "EMMC" mmcblk partitions and init.thunderc.rc does a 'mount_all /fstab.thunderc'... which requires replacing the qcom.init.rc direct MTD mount commands with comments. My system partition is currently 1GB and it's using well over 400MB of that. Antutu, quadrant, and linpack show no major speed differences from running off card. Class 4 16GB, class 10 8GB, class 2 4GB, all have worked for me. Biggest problem, one user had their only sd card fail while installed and recovery wouldn't sideload flash another zip without a card. Required adb and flash_image with internal system.img and boot.img pushed to /data to fix.
The internal MTD /system partition is only 165MB (157 on the Optimus S!) and it just barely holds kitkat with any features. I made a ROM version for it because people are more comfortable with that than my experimental version, but I don't use it myself. It works, but I hate dealing with linking and other methods of faking out Android because my phone has puny internal storage capacity. Multirom was cool, it was similar in that it mounted the external filesystems before booting, so Android didn't see anything funny going on. That stopped working for me with ICS.
Our devices are very similar. I've ported software over, and, um, borrowed, the p500 androidarmv6 3.0.8 kernel code for the VM670. The same trick should work if you'd like to try it.
To avoid too much off-topic, I'd be happy to discuss an easy (zip flash and adb shell cp -a) way to test the method on your device off in another thread somewhere.
I will check on the sideloading since not many armv6 users have enough system space. Most likely the one in the gapps will still sideload and the libs can be manually copied into /data/data/com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox/lib afterwards.
edit: yes, sideloading and pushing the libs there worked for me. Once. Then a FC every time it's opened. Same with android police version 3.3 apk.
I will examine my logs. Thanks for the pointer.
@Dovidhalevi
the force closes appear to be from the hotword not being disabled in google settings>voice>hotword
I had the same issues you reported from sideloading until I went into those settings and disabled the hotword.
It's actually mentioned in the OP but now I'll stress it's important there

Hotword will cause numerous FCs. I turn it off as fast as I can. Once off, Google Search will remain stably, show cards, etc. FCs with inputs as described. Hotword not the issue.

it seems like your system is using the wrong default app for voice. maybe if you went into apps under settings and clear defaults for a Google search voice search and voice search wrapper then you should get the default dialogs.
//edit: Thanks for the PM about how you got it working! I have added the info about the extra lib and the langauge settings to the OP and credit.
Thanks a lot for the source. Just asking for permissions. Can I use it in my ROM?
I know but still asking for conformation

certainly.
a link to the original here or github as a credit would be cool but not required...
as you inferred, the point to sharing source is to allow free use.
thanks for asking though.
If Google Now is already installed, is it possible to just push the lib files? or should I uninstall Google Now, Search, and Launcher and proceed with the steps posted on OP?

if Now is already installed all you need to install is Voice Search and the widget.
Clear defaults in Google Search after installing the other two and you should get the default dialogs to finish setting it up.
I will add this to the OP since I hadn't considered it.

When you say "widget" you mean the wrapper apk, right? Also, what do you mean when you say "clear defaults in Google Search", because as I check Google Settings>Search & Now, there's no option to clear defaults.

Yep, the VoiceSearchWrapper.apk is the widget.
As far as settings,
(If there's not a dialog asking what to run for this action, go to Settings >Apps > Google Search and clear defaults. If that doesn't do it, clear defaults for Voice Search and VoiceSearchWrapper too.)

Did you set the language to Hungarian like I was told had to be done sometimes?
By the way, I am using your troubles to clarify the OP. Keep me posted, please. And I may need a logcat to check exactly what is happening if it can't be easily trouble(shooted? shot?) through trial and error.

Okay. The thing I did not find the "Ok Google" hotword detection" option in my Google settings. I'm not sure if this would mean I have to re-install again? Or should I just clear data and cache of the 3(Now, Search, GNL)?

older versions of Search don't have the needed setting. what version is yours? the one I currently have installed is 3.3.10
looks like I should determine what the earliest version is with that setting.

It happened to me several times when WiFi or mobile data connection disconnects several times when download in progress and download manager just says downloading and shows no progress at all. Only way to solve this is cancel download and start again

Well now i have the same Problem.... Someone finally found a working solution? I am just tired from trying several "fixes" that should have worked. I am at the end. I need help. I have this problem only when I try to install a theme on cyanogenmod 11 snapshot 9 or icon packs. Pls help.
Thank you in advance!
P.S. ok i checked something, and for some reason i can not install any Themes. I am using CM 11 M9 with Go Launcher Pro, Using Xposed with XBlast Tools and some other little tools, but i did not had any problems before. It just happened, and i did not changed anything. Someone got any ideas how to fix that?
If Google Play services is updated try uninstall updates
Same problem here. Tried everything above..
CM11 nightly 20140928.
I can install some themes but most of them bring up error -400.
I guess it has something to do if a keyboard skin is also in there or not. I wanted to install the MIOS FREE - CM11 theme, but the actual update contains a "themed keyboard Latin". I am using the google keyboard from the gapps stock package. Could that be the problem? I installed another icon pack without problems (the FLAT - ICON PACK from the same guy), but the ones with keyboard thingy don't work. Someone got any solution?

I have the same problem on the same device with the same theme. Before update of 1st october theme installs good and working good. When come update and i push update button, play market bring me error -400. I tried to uninstall it and install again, but error won't disappear. I had read troubleshooting guides including those in this thread, but they doesn't work for me. I noticed, that the theme appears in installed apps, with strange icon and size equal zero (see screenshot).
I have old version of theme (1.8) backuped with Titanium Backup, it restores theme without error, but still theme don't updates. I want to try install theme from .apk file, but i can't find it latest version.
I hope, the problem will be solved in some day.
My device is I9300 with the last CM11 nightly.
Sorry for my english, i using google translate.

well i have downloaded the newest version (the apk file) from the play store through some program. but trying to install it also results in a fail. Someone here to help us?
It's all very strange. I update my device to today's nightly ( cm-11-20141003-NIGHTLY). In changelog there are changes in themeservice (see screenshot). I thought that now all be ok, but it doesn't, Mios free theme still don't installs. But now error looks different (see screenshot #2). Other themes installs without error, for example Obsidian theme (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.cyanogenmod.obsidian), which have theme for google keyboard. I'm think the last hope is to email developer of the mios theme, maybe he prompts something.

P.S. i am using Xposed module with Xblast tools and activated some minor tweaks, but even after careful checking of everything (the settings doe not have anything in common that could have caused this error) and also disabling the Xposed modules it still does not work.... that is really strange. But seriously.... Is there no one who knows something about themes in this section that can help us?
No one got an idea? Pls i really need help
try it
I learn and read many information but this error happen when your phone or internet had problem!
All fix way processing on your phone. try this way!
Problem
The download is impossible and the request is ''forbidden''. This usually happens when two Google accounts are used to buy applications on one device.
Solution
Go the Google Play Store with the correct Google account. Uninstall the application in question. Next try to get the app from Google Play again and click the purchase button.
2nd Solution
Clear the proxy you have possibly set up by going into the settings, then choose Wireless and Networks (or More) and then Mobile Network. Select APN, which stands for Access Point Name and hit Clear Proxy Option. Afterward you can always reinstated the proxy.
3rd solution
Another solution would be get erase your entire search history which you can do in the Play Store itself by choosing the settings button. Next, select Clear search history.
4th solution
Try creating a new Google account and using it instead for the Play Store. Go to the Google Play, and select the menu button again. Then select accounts and choose the new Gmail account. Then re-install the app.

[Help] GMS (sort) of working?

Hi everyone,
So although that I had made attempts to successfully install gms without any errors, I did not fully succeed in any of the guides. My firmware was 114 or 117 (don't remember now) and I tried several times with this firmware, as well as with 121 firmware (the only update I had).
So far, Google photos, Google maps, Google drive, YouTube, whatsapp, all work, however I am getting the notification "device is not play protect certified" when I open them (attached).
NEVERTHELESS, I do note foll:
- whatsapp backup successfully restored from Google drive, - Google photos sync and backup successfully between devices
- maps work (haven't actually navigated, but seems that everything is calculated properly).
-Contacts have synced with my Google contacts
-Gmail app works, but whenever I launch the app I get a banner saying "Google is having trouble with play services. Please try again", however I can see behind the banner that all new mails are there, but if i click the compose msg button, then I keep getting the error and cannot proceed.
-What I noticed though is that no any app currently installed on my p20 pro has been restored from play store on the p40 pro.
-i have NO notifications from Google apps
-Google search app works only for searching, I have no cards displayed on Google feed and it shows that I am not signed in, although all other Google apps have me properly signed in.
-Google Home does not work, since it does not allow me to sign in.
-Youtube works normally without any errors, actually I am also receiving notifications of newly uploaded videos :/
What the heck is going on? How come they partly work since my device is not certified and I am getting the notification page in all Google apps when they first launch?

IMO you should factory reset the phone and try another method for installing GMS until you find one that works for you. I tried a few and this way I was able to made it: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=83303057&postcount=262
It seems it is not possible to have both notifications and play store working together, so you use Icebox to freeze Google Play after restoring your purchased in order to have notifications. Then use a replacement store like Aurora.
Good luck and don't give up ?
I have Google installed, with Google Play and notifications active (I don't know if that metod still works)

I tried many methods so far, the one you used, one from a German guy, the other from the Portuguese guy (video in English) but all more or less resulted the same.
What I cannot understand is whether I do have play services working after all, or not, since as I said, my content syncs, although I am getting the non-certified error. Ok, and I do not have notifications from gapss.. [emoji23]
So I am really really confused.

How to downgrade? Some tutorial just downloading firmware with checking firmware approve or not approve. Is it safe to install with differen region firmware? Or all firmware just the same and can be installed to all devices?

No, it is not save to install a firmware that does not suite to your device. In best case it just can't be installed, in worst case you'll brick your phone. This is at least what I think and what a heard from other user reports in this forum. Do you have difficulties to find the right firmware?

So what I can say from my side, Gmail app works for me. And Google Home allows me to sign in. Anyway I don´t use this app, so I cannot say more about it.
On the other side I had problems with syncing contacts and calendar.. but I found a solution.
Maybe the "functionality" refers to the firmware, maybe the GMS installation is just not "perfect".
Any other apps, that don´t work for you.? I can install them on my phone and try, if they are not country related, as "food delivery service" you´ve mentioned?

First of all, thanks vm for your assistance
You can try to search for "efood delivery" , but even netflix does not let me sign in, although their behavior is different; when i click sign in to netflix, i get the pop up abt the device not being certified, then takes me back to initial netflix screen. In the efood app, I click to launch the app, i get the error and then the app closes again. The weird thing is that efood is also in appGallery (huawei native store), so supposedly it should work.
To be honest, I love huawei devices for their build quality, cameras, battery performance and I have been debating with myself on whether I should buy the p40 pro (i really need google apps for so many reasons- home automation by using google home, etc), but I guess I am screwed; unless I make things work properly i will have to keep using my p20 pro.

I just installed efood delivery, at least it lets me to sign in via facebook.
Concerning Netflix. It doesn´t work on some devices. I had problems with OnePlus and also with my Huawei P40 Pro at the beginning. Now it works (after installing through Aurora Store I think). I don´t think it is GSM related. For me it works. But there are some solutions in the app-section on XDA.

The installation is far from perfect i tell you that
Let me ask you something, so if you have a successful gms installation, i take it that after that you have to freeze gsf in order to have push notifications of you have normal push notifications?I am somewhat confused on this. Do you have to freeze gsf to have push and then to unfreeze only when you want to use playstore?

No, I didn´t freeze anything. But as I remember it didn´t work from the beginning. I tried so many things and actually I don´t know why everything is working now. I should have written down all my steps . I think I also updated Google services. For syncing contacts I had to downgrade GoogleContactsSyncAdapter.
And I still didn´t recognize, if I get all the notifications that are possible. But I get them for my mails and all other messages (using signal for sms), whatsapp and I don´t miss anything.
If I understood correctly you imported your apps from your P20? Another idea, that there is a conflict with this method? I didn´t have this opportunity as I came from a non huawei device. I had to install all my apps from scratch using Aurora as well as Playstore especially for my paid apps.

Since I had nothing to lose (phone not being properly setup with gms) I restored my p20 pro backup via hisuite. All my data, even home screen, were restored, minus 76 apps which failed for no apparent reason, I just saw a msg that 76 apps did not complete restoration (I have more than 250 apps installed normally)
Now I am pairing my Samsung watch active 2 to see if this works, but as I see it, I will have to try again from scratch.

Of course I cannot know but HiSuite could be the problem, especially if you restore data from a different device. Did you just restore app data or also system data? I´m not firm with HiSuite, but also with former devices I sometimes had conflicts by using backup apps - one reason I miss root.... but I knew it before and still happy with Huawei and the given solutions here on XDA.
So yes, maybe give it a second try, but please don´t make me responsible if you brick your phone ... Good luck!

Or you try to reset all your settings first through the phone´s menu. Maybe you have also restored settings from your older device which cause a conflict now.

Especially the first post will answer your question, and also #13 of the OP:

Thanks mate, it starts getting a bit more clear now[emoji16]

I also noted that in my setting menu when I select Google account it just keeps loading, is it the same in yours?
P.s: yesterday I inserted my sim cards and got a notification for 154 update, finally.. [emoji23] (although I won't be doing the update until I get this working)
FOR the time being, with my device as is, I would say that I could use it if I had Google home working (my local food app suddenly started to work), even though I am getting the error page when I open apps, since it seems that at the same time apps are working. Any solution on that?

Google Search App keeps updating itself, any way to prevent this?

Hey guys,
I just discovered that the Google Search App (incl Assistant) keeps auto updating on all my devices, although Play Store is set to "manual".
This shouldn't happen at all, find this rather shady.
Has anyone any clue how to block this behavior? I'm rooted, just in case you might ask.
Thanks!
You might be able to at least block it from connecting to the web using netguard.
@shaftenberg
Simply disable automatic updates of apps:

Well, as stated in OP, automatic update is disabled in Play Store.
That's why I'm so annoyed because Google App (velvet.apk) doesn't respect the setting.
@SmawtPho20 I don't want to block the Play Store completely, that's not a workaround by itself
Has someone successfully signed velvet.apk so that it won't be recognized by Play Store but still working?
[edit]
I just have tried to sign velvet.apk with another key and installed it as system app, but it crashes then. This isn't a solution.
Magisk debloater module to debloat it.
Karma Firewall, uses almost no battery, freeware.
Or...
If you don't use wifi, set to update by wifi only

Well, I do not want to remove the Google App - I just do NOT want it to auto-update it by itself. I mean, come on, the user setting is "do not update" and Google App and Youtube keep updating nevertheless. Gladly I use Youtube Vanced, so because of the other signature, auto update doesn't work.
But Google App force closes when signing with another key.
I'm using the voice search feature alot, this is the only purpose for the app in my case. So I need velvet.apk / Google App.
OR: Has anyone an idea where to get voice search only? This is baked in unfortunately as far as I know.
Voice search? Bixby's big sister
Just more invasive Gookill data mining.
You're not the customer, you're the product.

Your post is not useful at all, please stop trolling if you don't have any helpful things to say.
Stumbled upon many messages of you in the past few hours regarding Play Services and Battery drain and it seems, you simply hate Google but your "advices" do not help as they are out of logic in the corresponding threads.
@pl1992aw Google Go does not provide a system wide voice messaging unfortunately, but thanks for the hint!

I'm struggling with the same issue. The voice-to-text was wrecked by the last update. Uninstall update and everything is good again. I have also disabled auto update on the Play Store and it keeps updating. All I can figure is that there is an update file saved on the phone that it is accessing. Does anyone know if it is possible to find/ delete the update file? FWIW, I am not rooted on this device (S20).

Try clearing the system cache.
Hard reboot.
SDMaid might be able to find/delete the corpse file on a non-root phone. I use the old Samsung 360° powered Device Care* to clear system logs which works well.
*firewall blocked due to potential CCP spyware

Well, I cleared system cache and the app cache and it came back again this am.
Do you happen to know what directory the update file may be saved in and any clues on file name to look for?
Someone on another site recommended disabling Play Store and switching to a different apk app, which sounded promising. My main concern though is that I had already disabled "auto update" on the PS for the Google app and it keeps doing it- so either the file is already on my phone and the app is updating from there, or PS could be ignoring my selection...

I keep Playwhore package disabled unless I need it. It will constantly run in the background, at start up etc. I don't use wifi, my wifi is always disabled so I set it to auto update by wifi only.
Nothing updates on my 10+ unless I authorize it to. Updates are way overrated and many times not in your best interests.
You can try locking it down with Karma Firewall. On Pie and below it's valuable logging feature is full functional. Thank Google for the limited app resources change starting with Q.
Karma uses almost no battery. A great app.

Finally there is someone with the same problem Not that I like it, but now I don't feel that stupid anymore.
It seems, that Google pushes updates to Google App and Youtube regardless of the user settings in Play Store. But Youtube can't be updated automatically, because I'm using Youtube Vanced and the auto-update fails (haha).
So I suspected that a velvet.apk signed with another key would help, but this crashes immediately at start.
I haven't found a solution yet other than disabling Play Store, but this isn't a workaround for me. If you enable PS again, it will silently update Google App anyway in that short time frame.
I don't even know if Play Store is the culprit or the Google Play Services. If I had to guess, I'd tend more to the Play Services, but I really don't know.
What do you mean with "update file"? The apk to be installed will be downloaded either in a temp directory which isn't accessible without root, or it will be stored in the cache partition which you can safely clear in your recovery (Vol Up & Power). But I assume, deleting the apk wouldn't solve the problem as it has been installed already then.
Goggle Assistant and/or Quick Search maybe the culprit(s). I have both disabled along with Google Backup Transport and Framework.
I'm running on Pie as well as the factory load for most of the Google apps including Gmail and maps. I don't have this issue.
It may have something to do with Google account settings; there are many spread out in a big mess. Go through them all. I disabled most of them including Firebase and casting.
Gookill sucks.
Well, I am several days now without the app updating. Seems the solution was to disable the Google Play Services (not Play Store) app. Not sure if it is temporary or permanent of if it will cause long-term issues, but for now I have the voice-to-text interface that actually works good.

I'm just curious to see if this held or not. I've been dealing with the same thing with my SwiftKey keyboard. The Google app completely ruins speech to text on it. And the more you roll it back, the more frequently it wants to update. I've been fighting it for months and so far the only thing that I found are suggestions that require me to root which I kind of grew out of several years ago.
It is working. I had it backwards in my previous post though. You need to disable Play Store (not Play Services). Disabling Services kills a majority of apps.
I use Swiftkey also, but I don't think it has anything to do with Swiftkey. Swiftkey just uses the Google voice-to-text.
Once Play Store is disabled you have to go the the Google app and uninstall updates. The only negative I have experienced is that you have to enable PS again when you need to download a new app from the store (expected) which will mean uninstalling updates again.

General Google Assistant on watch 4 (wear OS)

Hi guys, only want to share my experience trying to install the google app and google assistant in my Samsung Galaxy Watch 4

That's been talked about before and it's super sketchy. You have to install some random guys app store, give his app tons of permissions, pay him then you get a limited version of Google assistant.
His telegram group have banned people for asking about the security concerns of his apps permissions. Super sketchy
If you install google go apk or other assistant also shows on this menu, but for now seems that only bixby is mapped to home button longpress
Google Assistant on Galaxy Watch 4 classic. Working for me. I follow theses steps

Interesting. The video in Spanish isn't terribly helpful, though. I am sure there are others out there. Seems like there would be a simpler way to sideload to the watch, but maybe not. Are you nervous about running some random APK? Good find on the "default app" > assistant. Didn't even notice that until now. How are your "activating" the assistant when you want to use it? Do you have to launch the app each time? Or did you bind it to a button or action on your watch face or something?

Is there also a non-telegram download link somewhere?
It's a gimped version of the assistant....can't play music on Spotify or youtube music, can't use find directions or navigate to commands....when not connected to the phone on bluetooth it struggles to process queries. And most frustrating of all.....screen powers down terminating the request mid way....and setting as default assistant makes no difference, long press still opens up ****sby. Need to remap double tap home to launch app....which takes a while to fire up
Can't wait for Google to release it officially....

krogoth, thanks again. I finally went ahead and tried it. Sent the two APK's to my phone with Airdroid. Put watch in developer mode, figured out how to turn on ADB and force wifi on (I had to disconnect bluetooth). Loaded Bugjeager on my phone. Went into developer options on watch to find IP address, connected to it in Bugjeager, finally figured out how to upload an app Bingo- it is on the watch! Binded it to top button double press, turned off ADB, turned off Wifi and BT back on....
It actually works (at least for now). Obviously not designed for round screens. Even has a dialog on the bottom I can't dismiss, since I can't see it. But it can answer questions (what is the time? What is the square root of 13? What is my battery level? etc). When I ask to SEE something like "show me a picture of a cat", nothing appears. I installed Chrome too, to see if it would launch that to show it... it doesn't. I don't think it can show anything due to the lack of space on the screen and no way to navigate (that I can figure out, anyway). Also times out too quickly sometimes.
Anyway, I will play with it some. It might have a lot of issues, but it is a hell of a lot more functional than NOTHING!

Is this still the version where you have to donate to the creator ?
And do you have to give out your Google account to a third party (or creator) ?
