I need to develop for Android 3.0. I need a way to test the apps I am creating. I need a way to run Android 3.0 as I plan on having that be the minimum version of Android I want to support.
Also, I bought this device for the fact that it was the first Android 3.0 tablet in existance, so it is therefore the oldest (but still not slowest, surprisingly) device I need to develop for. If I need to run a version of Android closest to Android 13 as possible, I would have just purchased an Asus ROG Phone 6.
Every time I try to search for a way to downgrade this tablet, I just don't find it. I try searching for this device's stock ROMs, but I can only find the latest official stock ROM, which is Android 4.1, which I do not need.
Also, can someone just post updated links for everything we need to root this tablet? It looks like some of them (like the Motorola USB drivers) are broken.
I eventually did manage to find an old stock ROM for this tablet that makes it run Android 3.0 again! Looks like my first issue is solved.
Unfortunately, I ran into another issue, I couldn't find a charger, I bought some barrel chargers that were supposedly for this device, but they don't actually plug in. I hate those proprietary barrel chargers so much right now!
I see you already found it, but in case anyone else needs old files, many of them are in the dev threads. These ones still have many active links for the Wingray model.

My old Xoom is running strong. Since I still have all installation files and most of them are not available here anymore I decided to upload and share them. What I Am Sharing: cm-11-20150725-UNOFFICIAL-2201+0200-wingray.zip...

My list of compiled Roms for Motorola Xoom
This is the forum for the roms I compile for Motorola Xoom. I have nicknamed these future roms Moto-Rola for personal reasons. xD I will try to make them faster and put some cute things on them, even if I start with KitKat versions. As you all...

Hey all,
Today I bought an Acer Aspire One D255E netbook which has dual boot Android.
The thing is though that I'm pretty sure its running 1.5 or 1.6 from the looks of the UI (I don't quite know seeing as my HTC phone has HTC Sense) and there is also no Android Market. Is it possible to install a custom ROM based on Honeycomb?
If so would you please be able to give me a step by step walkthrough as I am completely new to rooting/ custom ROMs etc
Thanks
I'm not 100% but I can't imagine it being 1.5 or 1.6, its probably just vanilla android (no proprietary ui). You don't get to see android all by itself very often. As for a custom rom,i don't see why not. You would just need to find a developer with interest in it. Most net books aren't far above this generation of phones, and also would think the file system would be similar if not identical.
I might even go as far as to say start poking around the file system if you can, being a computer it may have root access already (sort of like a dev phone). Hey if you're feeling brave you could try one of the one click root apps like z4 root, see if it works.
i'd also like to say that I'm not telling you to do this, there are risks involved in doing anything unknown and try this only if you are prepared for those possibilities. Do it at your own risk, I'm not responsible if you mess something up while experimenting.
Just some thoughts ;-)

So i just recently bought a Asus T100, since windows 8.1 is much more appealing to me in a tablet than android,
but I still have my android TF700 tablet and I don't really want to sell it since it is also a great device.
Problem is it slows down to a crawl. I factory restore it, but within a few weeks of light use it becomes VERY slow (more of a web browser and general interface issue, since games and video still run fine)
If i could correct that problem, i have many uses at home for it.
are there any fun/cool/useful things I can do to it? upgrades, different OS, that kind of stuff? I love using old devices as kind of a learning/training tool for DIY type projects.
I was thinking about just rooting it, but that is boring. I want to try something really cool that could even breath some new life into the device and get me using it again.
If you unlock your bootloader with the Asus unlocked tool, you can install some custom roms that seem to make it run quicker and smoother.
This should get you started:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2688891
Then check the Development section for roms - there are quite a few to choose from.
Just make sure you fulfill ALL the requirements for each rom (ususally stated in the OP for each rom) and NEVER use Wipe Data from the bootloader if you have a custom recovery installed.
Hi there,
I know Ive asked this question before, and got some good help, though the thread was a much too long read so here a shorter version hoping to get more responses
Is it safe to use an old Android version? And if it isnt, is it safer to install Gapps so I can get some Google updates (for instance Stagefright fix)?
This tut says to keep 4.2 on your device which makes me wonder what to do: http://forum.xda-developers.com/general/security/tuto-how-to-secure-phone-t2960077
FYI I have a HTC Desire Z (there are some 5.x alfas), Sony Xperia T (pain in the ### to update so prefer not to update to newer Android with the risk of not being able to use my phone for some days if it needs some fixing) and a Gigaset 4.2 tablet.
Thanks a lot.

Safe..
Safe as in as safe as it gets? Dont the Android updates do nothing at the security front?
I think that the object behind the linked post is not the same as what most people consider "secure". I only looked at it briefly but I think the guide you list is more for "how to make sure that the Big Brother cannot find you". The security that newer versions of Android fix are things like exploits that malware can use to steal your info.
If you're worried about the "malware" type of security, then AFAIK the latest version of Android for your device is the best choice. If you're trying to keep absolutely anyone from tracking you... I guess you can follow that guide... but that's really outside of my area of expertise.
in my view older versions of Android are not sure, because of uncorrected publicized flaws on older android vertions.
for the rest it's up to you.
KitKat was released about the same time as Windows XP end of support. Do you think it would be safe running XP right now? Many would not.
Firefox's ssl/tls is also FAR superior to stock/webview browsers, especially on KitKat and earlier.
Even in the new androids (5.0.0 and above) have vulnerabilities in proprietary libs.
All who know about the vulnerabilities, just silent.
Hello. I am looking for a clean rom to Vayo i8 pro. Because I can not find on Chinese websites.
The Chinese web site only has the i8 Plus framework that (and I'm assuming here) they use for the whole i8 series. I have written them with regards for the software and firmware needed to reload the devices but they have yet to respond.
About the only way you can get some support is via the Chinese consumer BBS they are part of. Problem being they won't let you in without a Chinese phone number.
Don't quote me on this but it is my belief the framework is a generic MTK Android framework that they slapped together and did only a few tweaks to boost the scores on the devices. Until I can root my device I'm not going to trust the results fully.
The framework is a zipped package of ADB PULL directories, with an .img extension. The format that is used is possibly from some sort of installer/backup app. I'm still trying to dive into the framework and see how it is packaged and how I can make some mods and roll it into a better ROM. With regards to that: I am a N00B presently. Never had the time to roll custom ROMs. Now, being out of a job and with medical issues, I just might spend time on this.
One note about the i8-Max is the stylus. I have yet to get it to do what they say it can do. It takes a AAAA battery - never seen one of those. I will start a thread specifically for the i8-Max.

hi, my friend gave me a i8 pro as a gift and it is still using android 6. The Android 7 rom link is dead in official site, the only downloadable rom that I can find is i8 plus, do you think i can use i8 plus rom on my i8 pro?
thanks!!!!
I have a really old tablet lying around that I would like to run Fully Kiosk on to use as a Home Assistant dashboard in my house, but there are several issues I need to solve first, if possible.
The tablet is an Onix AT101-1215. Real cheap thing when I bought it probably 7 or 8 years ago, so it's unusable in its current state. I cannot find any ROM support for it either. I was wondering whether it was possible to get a really barebones, but more recent, version of Android running on it. I don't have much experience at all with Android development specifically, so I think I know what the answer is going to be, but I just wanted to make sure.
I have read some other forum threads, and apparently one of the finnickiest parts of building your own custom ROM are getting the camera working, and more proprietary parts of the device working properly. I don't need most of the features of the device, just for the display and the WiFi connectivity working, with a recent version of android would be good enough.
Again, I don't have any experience working with Android custom ROM development, so how plausible is it that I could get this working?
