Tab 3 Lite MODs? - Galaxy Tab 3 General

I have a Tab 3 Lite. I purchased in on eBay cheap so if I brick it no big deal. My sole purpose for this is to use as a WiFi security camera monitor. Nothing else. No email, no games Nada!
But the old 4x Android does not work with the IP Cam app I need. In fact I am not able to install anything at all via PlayStore as when I click install I immediately get a "no connection" error even though I am connected.
I found several posts about upgrading to Jelly Bean 7x and I am thinking that would make this viable for my purposes.
However every result leaves me more confused because there are references to Tab 3 Lite 3.0 and I cannot find anything to indicate beyond the Tab Lite name?
Any help knowing what is possible and what MOD's will work most appreciated.

Very low cost tablet

Hi all, i'd like to buy a chinese android based tablet (price should be around 100€), i'd like to ask you which one do you suggest to buy.
I've seen one from my friend and i liked it, i didn't remember the model but i tought that the android market was not the official one, can it be? If so, there's any way i can install it? Or i can install other apps without the market?
Another question, are these upgradable? I thought that the Android inside the tablet was pretty old (1.6 maybe), this was not a problem in everyday use, but i'm a maniac and i like to have everything up to date, if i can.
Please let me know
Just bought the TechPad Android Tablet
I guess we'll see what can be done with these. I don't need an ereader so I am looking for this to be an extension of my android phone, GPS - browser - etc. I should receive it by the 9-25-10
It has OS 1.6 Android 7 Inch Tablet with a 800MHz processor, 256 MB of RAM, 1Gb ROM, WiFi, and the Google Android Marketplace.

Look at this: http://www.slatedroid.com/
There are many store where you can buy that table you can do your own research on the web so you can select the right store that will meet your budget.
@superchaos
so did you get the 7 inch techpad unit yet? if so how is it?
I did.
It is not replacing my phone, I seem to be able to see a lot of the apps in the market but I am unable to download them. It just gets stuck at the starting download screen. Wifi connects really well and has a great connection.
Some apps just won't install like google earth, Google sky map, Swype doesn't recognize the device, etc.
The touch screen is kind of weak and you really have to press to get it to get the typing to work. The system files are accessible and there is a "su" folder. I am not real good at getting into anything. It looks to me like it is rooted but I have not figured out how to get into a recovery mode.
I have tried to connect it to the SDK from google and it does not recognize the device. If anyone has any ideas, I am open to suggestions.
Market issue is likely just Google servers. Happens all the time.
You need to test root by running an app like titanium backup which needs root, and see if it works.
For recovery, you would only get a stock one, and I doubt you will get a custom one online if the device is not common.
Is USB debugging enabled for adb, and have you looked for it in device manager to see its hardware id and check if the id is listed in the adb driver list?
@superchaos
judging from the price the screen probably is not capacitive type but resistive. how's the battery holding? how long does it last before you have to recharge? does it look like it's upgradable to android 2.2?
thanks.

It doesn't seem to be rooted. To get the adb shell to recognize the device and to get Dalvik Debug Monitor to see the device, I followed the instructions here rbgrn.net/content/399-how-to-get-archos-5-internet-tablet-adb-working-on-x64-windows
I used HiDROID instead of Archos5 and the device id is USB\VID_18D1&PID_0002&MI_01
I run winXP not win7 and this worked. Screen capture works too. The programs I installed that require root just force close.

The screen could be a lot better. It is like there is a film on top of the screen for touch capabilities. The battery holds really well unless you are watching videos. 4-5 hours of constant use. You can leave it plugged in too. I am hoping it is upgradeable. The OS is built for a phone.
How do I get a list of hardware devices in the phone? Not just the specs on the pamphlet but actual hardware names/mfg's?

[Q] PiPO Pad P1 9.7 Inch Rockchip compatibility problem

Hello,
I just bought this, it's not a major brand and so I knew I wasn't going to have everything as easy as my samsung phone and here's my first problem.
I have two apps I want to install that won't which are Wase and Escort Live, both traffic apps. Both when I go to the android app. store give me a "This item is not compatible with your device." message.
The OS is the same version as my Samsung Note 2 phone (4.4.2) which has both those apps. and I question if there really is a compatibility issue that would matter.
So, is there way to find out exactly what the app is looking for that it can't find that's making it incompatible?
Is there a way of installing an app. even if playstore thinks there's a problem? Maybe there's an app that will make a device look like to playstore it's got what the app. wants?
I bought this device to experiment with, not so much as a work tool, so I have no problem rooting it or whatever if needed although it's rare enough there might not be a known way to root it.
Any help appreciated.

[SOLVED] Getting past Accurator on Lenovo Tab 2 A7 10F

The Lenovo Tab 2 A7-10F is a 7-inch tablet computer, designed primarily as a entry-level media device. It is one of the cheapest devices to come with Dolby Digital Audio Enhancement Software out-of-the-box. It is shipped with Android KitKat, 4.4, officially upgradeable to Lollipop, 5.0. Lenovo has fitted in a MediaTek MT8127 SoC, clocked at 1.3GHz and 1GB of DDR3 RAM, which is pretty respectable for a device priced under 6K [in INR]
Dev support for this device is quite good as well. To the best of my knowledge, a port of TWRP 3.1.0.0 and CM12.1 is available. Plus, a source build of OrionLP based on Android 5.1.1 is also available.
While both the official [sadly bloatware-filled] and the unofficial Lollipop builds provide a refreshing, near-stock UI, nothing can beat the original KitKat ROM. It is very stable, lag-free, and it's got some more features than stock Lollipop. It is apprehensive that you will one day get fed up of Lollipop.
But if you don't have an Nandroid backup, you are out of luck.
Despite the great dev support, the original stock KitKat firmware is not quite easily available. Several websites mention that firmware is available for the IdeaPad A7-10F, which seems to be the same as the Tab 2 A7-10F.
This ROM is a total disappointment. Someone has ported it from a 10.1 inch Chinese educational tablet, and it has one powerful application called 'Accurator', which locks out the user from the Android system. It asks for a username and password in Chinese, and sends data to a highlysuspicious website with A-rated content.
There is one potential flaw though. This can possibly help in bypassing the application.
Prerequisites
First [and most importantly] your device.
Second, a working Wi-Fi router connected to the Internet.
I have presumed you have changed the language yourself.
Steps
First connect your device to your Wi-Fi router.
In Settings, go to Display-Wallpaper.
Now choose Gallery.
Tap the Camera icon on thetop-right. The Camera App opens.
Shoot a video, preferably of a few seconds.
Play the video. The 'Open With' dialog box appears. Choose 'Browser' and 'Just Once'.
In the browser, go to Google by typing the appropriate URL for your country.
Now download Kingoroot, and root the device.
Next download Button Savior; provide Superuser access when prompted, and start the service.
Finally, download a launcher of your choice, preferably Apex Launcher. Open it, and set it as the home app.
[Optionally] You can uninstall the troublemaking Accurator application using the Kingo Superuser app.
This technique won't give the status bar and the original KitKat navbar. Plus, for the all-important notification panel, you have to toy around a bit with the Launcher's gesture controls. I haven't discovered a way to reveal the Quick Setting panel yet.

Is rooting and/or modifying my tablet worths the trouble?

Hello everyone i have a question for you that will make a choice for me to root/modify/upgrade (or whatever you guys doing) my tablet or just leave it alone.
First of all i have a Motorola Xoom 2 Media Edition tablet running Android 4.0.4. I have software and hardware experience on pc windows and linux but not so much on android.
My main problem with my tablet is its running Android 4.0.4 and when i tried to install apps (especially multimedia apps like netflix , bein connect and youtube) it says my device is not compatible. And in general my tablet feels slower to when i bought it first time about 5 years ago.
My questions are;
1-Would i be able to upgrade android to newer editions at least android 5.0.0? I am asking this because my phone has android 5.0.0 and i have no problems with apps as of now.
2-If i root/modify android can i run apps like netflix and youtube or there are more problems waiting?
3-Would modifying help the speed of tablet or would it slow it down even more? Like trying to install windows 8 on a windows xp level of pc.
I'm asking these because i dont want to spend days just to find out it was not the answer i was looking for.
I hope i made myself clear please add any suggestion or roadmaps for a newbie like me. Thanks in advance.
Technically rooting doesn't allow you to upgrade your version of Android, it's the custom recovery you install that does. If there's a custom ROM out there that supports your old tablet it will work. Youtube is unaffected by root and I don't think Netflix is either. Finally, rooting technically could help the speed of your tablet if you change things like disabling fsync or running TRIM, but rooting itself doesn't change performance. Just be warned that there might not be a Lollipop or newer custom rom for your tablet!

Yes, correct, in order to use the beta app you must insert the sim card, but even doing this you won't be able to get the 9.1 as it is not available yet on M5
So there is no point trying this app if you don't have a 4G device?

I can't even get 9.0 for the US 8" model yet. I'm sure I'll see 9.1 after Android 10 is released.
I'm still running 8.0. Not even a sniff of 9.0 let alone 9.1! Quite disappointed if I'm honest!

Got my tablet last week SHT- AL09 LTE
with version 8, checked for updates and went up version 8 in steps. Then was given 9 and more steps to final 9.01.190
I have the same tablet, and same version of the software.
Very nice tab, i like everything about it except for the battery life which is not too good, and also wish it supported VoLTE.
I was wondering, whether it will receive Android Q :-o
I just checked what is the firmware history of Samsung tablets on sammobile. So after 1st year of release they updated their tablet quarterly, and after 2nd year they stops updating. So it is pretty much almost the same. Except that they are much much more expensive devices. Like new tab s6. Great tablet, but quarter updates after 1st year? No thanks.
Got the EMUI 9.1 update (9.1.0.325) on my M5 8.4 WiFi last Saturday (31 August 2019) here in Romania. It's 3,51 GB in size and I got it through OTA.
