Rooted therefore lost Secure Folder.
Is there any way to get the Secure Folder working again whilst rooted? (I think some custom ROMs manage to do this...?)
Or is there a (preferably System level) reliable App lock alternative?

No. Secure Folder is tied to Knox. Rooting breaks Knox. Even if you go back to stock, it still won't work.
I understand about root breaking Knox.
But I've seen previous Samsung posts about getting Secure Folder to work with build prop editor mod/ Magisk fix module/ custom ROMs with working Secure Folder etc.
So just wondering if any expert or experienced person on this topic.....
as to having back knox, I think is not posible, but, I recall reading somewhere about hiding the rooted state to make some apps to work
Secure folder is working on both rooted VN and Dr. Ketan's rom. S22U 908E
I've hidden root successfully for relevant banking/ monitoring Apps, which otherwise wouldn't have worked if root not hidden.
Exactly my point, if custom ROMs can make Secure Folder work (Knox is still tripped), then is it possible to port this component over to rooted s22u - to have a working SF?
There is a TWRP group on Telegram for this device. Just look for afaneh92 Magisk modules. Secure folder is working fine on rooted Phone with this magisk module.

Hi,
Hope you can help, if I root with super su for just change build pro settings, and then full unroot, will I keep the changes?? Or there is a another way to change build prop variable without root? I'm in G930F Nougat stock rom
Thanks
Yes the changes will remain if you unroot but why would you? You have already tripped KNOX etc by rooting in the first place, and your system status will remain 'Custom', so things like banking apps will likely still fail to work
No you can't change system files without root, build.prop is a system file

Thanks you so much for your answer, it's exactly because some video apps and banking as you said not work with root and they are essential for me. The problem is, I'm root since a long time, s health just work editing build prop, and since a few months ago, some apps like my bank, and video apps stop working because of root, and I need both things now, and I remember that before root(with already Knox tripped) they work fine.

AFAIK, these apps just don't open anymore because of the SafetyNet profile missmatch you get when rooted (You can download an app like "SafetyNet Helper Sample" from Play Store to view your current SafetyNet status).
Apps like Snapchat, PokemonGO, my local banking app,.. use this technology, rather than the "custom" mark or the tripped knox.
So in my opinion you have three options now:
Use Magisk
When rooted with MagiskSU, your phone will still pass the SafetyNet Profile match, which will let you use your apps and root.
Root -> make your changes -> unroot
When you're completely unrooted you will once again pass the SafetyNet
(Probably doesn't work for you)Unroot -> Prepare Apps -> root again
Apps like Snapchat just check your SafetyNet status at login. That means when you're not rooted, you can log in to Snapchat, when you root afterwards (without a wipe of course) you're still logged in, even tho your phone wouldn't pass SafetyNet atm.

Which version of Magisk are you using?
What is the result of the SafetyNet Sample App?

You could try installing the newest beta, which is 13.6, but I don't really believe this resolves your problem. You can get it from here: Magisk Beta Thread
So the thing was the secure folder app and the samsung pay app and health app is saying I have root even though i never installed root, and even checked if i have root via root checkers saying that i have no root... how do i fix this???
Did you install a different ROM?

i haven't installed any rom but I did retrieved the old bootloader [ I changed to s8 boot loader but came back to the original boot loader (backup) ]
It appears that any modifications you've made in the past have left behind "pieces" or corpse folders/files. I have a 930F and in order to use banking apps, payment apps, etc. I had to use Magisk (hides from newer apps quite well). NO superuser or su framework can be present (apps see it right away and su doesn't hide well on new devices / apps). So I believe that there is a remnant or file related to root triggering the warning msg you are seeing. My advice would be to flash fresh firmware (also a full wipe).
*Sometimes changes made related to root (even if you don't have root) can trigger apps/system warnings even though you didn't root.

Would this affect major os update? and how do I remove remnant/corpse files
As the title suggest, I'm trying to bypass a root check for an app, more specifically MyMazda App. I have tried several different methods ( repacking Magisk, Root Cloak, LSposed/Xpirvacy, Unviersal SafteyFix Patch ). None seem to work, my bank, credit and stock exchange apps work completely fine along with every other app except this one. I'm running on a complete stock ROM.
I am running:
Oneplus 8 Pro
Android 11
OxygenOS 11.0.10.10.IN11AA
Magisk v24.1
This raised a few questions:
1. Is it even possible to bypass this apps root check?
2. If it is and when I do bypass it, will all the features work (ie. Remote Start/Stop, Remote Lock/Unlock, etc.)?
3. If there is no way, will downgrading Magisk to when MagiskHide was in the app?
4. And if I do need to downgrade, is there aspecific procedure for the Op8 Pro or is just like any other phone?
Sidenote: I am very new to this, I only just rooted my phone 2 days ago, without any issues thankfully, so I may have missed something important to one of the modules for it to work. Thank you in advanced!
Checking whether Android is rooted or not basically requires only 1 line of program code.

Interesting, then how come this app is causing so much issues compared to my banking apps and such?
I want to edit hosts file in my non-rooted Android device.
Since flashing a Custom ROM is basically installing a new OS, I was wondering,
Is a hosts file already present in a Custom ROM or is it generated later and at what point?
If it is preincluded in the ROM, is it possible to edit that hosts file and then flash the ROM, basically editing the hosts file without rooting?

Some custom ROMs do include custom hosts files, and you could potentially edit it before flashing the ROM. I'm not sure why you'd want to use a custom ROM without root, though - with root access, you can use a hosts manager like AdAway to update your hosts file on the fly.

(I am a newbie in rooting and flashing Custom ROM so please correct me)
Well my main objective is to edit the hosts file.
I understand it generally require root privileges but I want to use rooting as a last resort.
I am already going to flash Xiaomi Eu ROM in my Redmi Note 11. And if it is possible to edit the hosts via the ROM, wouldn't it be a better alternative than rooting? As with rooting, there also comes some consequences like tripping SafetyNet which I would gladly like to avoid.

SafetyNet is no longer relevant; it has been replaced by Play Integrity. See this thread. Even so, it is possible to pass Play Integrity BASIC and DEVICE attestation using the Universal SafetyNet Fix Magisk module.
I'm rooted with Magisk 25.2 on my Pixel 5. I use AdAway to manage my hosts file, and USNF 2.3.1 MOD 2, and I have zero issues with Play Integrity.

I see.
But SafetyNet/Play Integrity is only one of the consequences of rooting. In Xiaomi devices, the warranty remains intact even after unlocking bootloader unless the device is rooted.
I am happy with flashing Custom ROM with edited hosts file without rooting.
I can always root my device later if this doesn't work.
Unless there is some other drawback which I am not aware of. If there is, please inform me so I don't end up in a mess.

How would they know whether you rooted the device?
I can see how flashing custom firmware could void the warranty, like Samsung...So I suppose I've answered my own question as rooting would ostensibly involve either patching the boot image or installing SU to system. But, if you're editing a hosts file, you're also changing the system image, so I would assume that this would do the same thing.

Well, as I pointed out above, you're making modifications to the software. If you're concerned about the warranty, don't use ANY modified software on your device, and keep your bootloader locked. You can't have your cake and eat it too.
Hi, I use root in all my devices from a lot of time but now I'm 41yo and no more interested in this.
I use root "now only" for
1) call recording (BCR);
2) SwifthBackup;
3) Revanced.
So, call recorder seems to be installed also without root: just put apk in system app directory!
... but, how I can move an apk in system directory without root or twrp, and with locked bootloader?
SwifthBackup can work without root? I don't remember but I can search.
Revanced isn't a problem, I can use with microG.
----
Any help about my doubts?
I want try also because VPN not work, and after a months of email with support "seems" can be related to unlocked/rooted device.
I want just try.
Ty.
Without root, Swift Backup can backup app APK files, but not the app data. It does allow you to grant adb permissions through Shizuku, but I never figured out what [if anything] that allows it to do. I wasn't able to backup app data with ADB privelages.
I don't know the answer to the Call Recording issue.

I imagine that, once you move that .apk to the system app directory (while rooted), once you unroot, it should still stay there and probably be accessible; but I'm unsure whether successfully running it will be possible -- it depends on the call recording app and if the app requires root to run. If it doesn't and it simply needs root just to be inserted, then I imagine it would probably work if you unroot.
But I have never heard of this method of getting a mod or add-on to work by inserting it in the system app directory...it's fascinating...
Like you said, ReVanced doesn't necessarily need root to work; it just works better with it. Swift Backup will only in a basic way be able to back your device up without root access.
But if you are simply just trying to get a certain VPN to work -- and in the end you don't want to lose root -- you could try doing the numerous root-hiding methods. There are many games, banking apps, and streaming apps that won't work with root (without even giving you a warning that it's because of root detection sometimes) that, once you hide root successfully, are able to run it. It sounds like that could possibly be the case for your VPN.
There are these you can try (if you haven't yet); Zygisk Deny List, UniversalSafetyNetFix (Displax mod works best with P7P), Shamiko, HideMyApp, Magisk Delta, etc.
Also, please be aware (or reminded if you know already) that while unrooting will not wipe and reset your device, locking your bootloader requires wiping the device and you losing everything! You'll be able to get some stuff restored through Google One Backup/Sync, but most everything will need to be set back up and/or lost. And if all you are seeking is to get a VPN to work, I really highly doubt that the app/service goes so far as to detect if you have an unlocked bootloader; it seems there are some banking apps that go that far, but most apps out there don't go that far, and hearing a VPN does would be a first...
Good luck!
Just Google VPN. Do not work anymore from about two months and seems can be a root/unlocked issue.
Anyway, u're right. Ty so much.
