I'm not going to draw this out, but this site is not what it used to be. Technical discussions these days are rare jewels. I realize visitors pay the bills, but I feel like the site is on the downhill side of a slippery slope. I can't say I know what the ultimate answer is, but enforcement of the existing XDA rules would be a big step:
Stop letting nonsense get posted in the development forums. I know there are a limited number of moderators, but '[OMG][MOD] build.prop Super Ultra blah blah' nonsense should not be tolerated. Is this sorcery or development?
Enforce the ...If you didn't create 'it'... rule.
Define creating 'it.' Home-grown applications don't qualify as development, but 'kitchen' type ROMs do? Deodexing an OEM ROM using a tool developed by some else is development now?
I should stop. This post was supposed to be short. I love XDA, but I think we've lost focus and tolerated too much. Just my opinion.
I guess you missed all the town hall meetings, 10 post rule discussions, page upon page of wtf's in the mod request thread. Been going on for a while now.

If everyone started enforcing that in everyday life Then Apple would be in big trouble..
Apples development process:
Does it exist? ------> Patent it, and sue the people currently building it
Is it a generic well used shape or idea? ------> Patent it, and sue the people currently using it.
Is it an abstract idea used in science fiction that we have no way of phisically crating yet --------> Patent it untill someone else does work out how to create it and then buy them out / sue them.
Dubbl standudz much?
LOLZ

Would it be a good idea to maybe add some people in the XDA stuff so they can be screening what posts get posted on those threads? Kind of like someone has to approve the post first and then allow it to be posted.

I see your point of view. But if we (the XDA Community) dont tolarate, first attempts to do something for the others, wouldnt it be inefficient ? Some people start here with little things and later they make ROMs that anybody loves.
Themed Roms, deodexed Roms etc - should be in the Apps and Themes Section or in a collection thread Just an idea of me

For starters, you could do your part too, by posting this in the CORRECT forum.

So optimization of roms isn't development? Perhaps only alpha roms should be posted because it just boots on the device and everybody should just try optimize features on their own because it's too much work to make the system error free on everyone's devices. I'd then just stick to only stock roms or buy an iphone kthx.

Hello,
As you can see I'm still new here, trying to read more than post, but as I understand, the "developing process" is a wide area incorporating all of the following processes:
* actual programming of software/firmware
* optimization of roms and/or kernels
* rom customization (app/configuration/etc wise)
* many more
While one might take part in many of the processes, others might focus on smaller parts or more specific processes (due to many different reasons), but there is absolutely no reason to look down on them. We're all (or most) here because at the end, we want the same result - a good running system.
If you have a problem with a post please report it

Hello XDA people, i m here because we need help. Me like a lot of people have chinese smartphones. The companies that make this smartphones hardly ever provide us the kernel source. The people from the spanish forum HTCMANIA made a petition to ejiayu inc (the company that make jiayu devices) because we want them to release the kernel source.
We need your help, so please go to this link :
https://www.change.org/es/peticiones/ejiayu-inc-ejiayu-com-full-source-jiayu-release-g3s-t
And sign the request. It took less that 5 minutes and you help a good cause. Please, your help is very important to us, you dont need to have this phone to sign the request, so everyone can do it.
We need you to share this and make all sign this request.
Your signature is very important.

i have seen some excellent roms like resurrection remix paranoid pacman are not getting that much of development ,they are excellent roms i there by request developers to continue these projects if original developers are not getting tym (i would do it myself if i could) i am not asking for eta nor questioning their ability it is just that i "think" these good roms should get thier required amount of development .its a humble request for all developers of nexus 5 to support thesee roms because nexus 5 doesnt face any stability issues so it shouldnt b a difficult task (thats what i think i dont know if its easy or difficult ) again it is a request for all developers any my personal views on those roms so no offence
If the developers what to update them, they will. If they don't, they won't.
A lot of devs support many devices also. So patience is required.
Devs do this for fun, it's not a requirement that they do any updates, or even share their work.
As you hinted, if you can't wait, learn how to build them yourself. ?
You say this is a humble request but it's anything but humble. There is no requirement for any level of support nor should there be. The devs are giving their own time and resources.
Support from developers is not guaranteed on XDA, it is a hobby for most and there is no requirement for anyone to share their work.
This could be an opportune moment for someone else to step up and start to learn something for themselves and then help the community out.
As such, threads like this are not required and tend to start arguments and spread ill will, so...

i have been looking a lot of information about this device and then only thing i could do is rooting it .... so what i and a lot of L series users want is to you pay more attention to this series because all we want custom roms and official support ... you have help me a lot with other devices but with my new one a cant :/ so please we will be so grateful if you start working in this LG series .... thanks a lot.
Hi
Thanks for writing to us at XDA Assist. It isn't up to XDA Developers to decide which devices get the most development, XDA simply provides a place for people to get together and share their work and ideas. It's up to the developers to make the decision of which device(s) they want to develop for. Unfortunately low-spec devices such as the L50 rarely receive any development, because they're low-spec they're also low popularity, and developers generally develop for popular devices to make it worth their while. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
Even though you may not receive any custom ROMs for your phone, if you can root it you can still customise it through the use of the Xposed Fraemwork and modules. I'd suggest you take a look:
Xposed - General info, versions & changelog
Xposed Framework Modules
Good luck with your phone.

There have been many complaints how difficult it is to find (and make) custom kernels and ROMs for China phones. So I have a few questions regarding that.
1. How much is that still an issue?
2. Some have said when the manufacturers do provide the source code it's usually incomplete. Is that legal or some sort of a loophole in the GPL terms allows them to do that?
3. Are there any Chinese brands out there more eager to comply with the GPL and help the modding community?
Thanks in advance.

Chinese devices with MTK chipset are popular and supposedly easy to do custom development on them.
It still requires stock source though.
