Remove att boot animation - General Questions and Answers

Hi I just got a new s22 ultra, and I am looking to remove the AT&T boot animation in (/oem/media),
I've already removed the bloatware apps using Universal Android Debloater
I prefer a way to do it without rooting, and if there is no way, can I "unroot" my phone later?

i don't think you'll be rooting your phone to begin with and because of that, you can't do much more then disable apps. You can't get rid of the bootanimation without root and you can't have root without unlocked bootloader

you can do nothing more, there is no bootloader unlock. enjoy ur debloated S22 Ultra
I take that back, you should be able to flash the U1 variant of your device firmware and that will get rid of the ATT boot animation as well as any other carrier stuff

It should be under the Verizon model. Usually tracfone does not lock the bootloaders on their variant. On another thread a guy flashed the verizon firmware to this model with no bricks and issue. but doing that WILL lock the bootloader. I hope he responds to my post. want to know to what extent it was flashed and if knox got tripped.

would you be able to show me the right direction to where he got the method to root his.? also if you learn anything else from him . can you let me know. so this mean I have an unlock bootloader? doesn't that mean I can root easier?

I should be able to get one of these mids august hopefully and will use it as a test device to see what bricks it and what hack can be done. In the past tracfone has release the SM-S975L(Tracfone Unlocked bootloader) which equals to an SGH-I337 (AT&T Locked bootloader), they released the S5 & S6 which equal to the SM-G900V and SM-G920V, both have Unlocked bootloaders. So i dnt think the S7 is any different and equals to the SM-G930V. Any root method that works for the SM-G930V should work on the SM-G930VL. But again this is just my say based on past experiences, i wont know until i get the phone and try all this. For what I know so far he was able to flash the complete verizon firmware which i think will flash a locked bootloader and no going back after it.
Yes will share my experiences.

So i was able to flash the full latest verizon firmware and fully ended up converting the phone to an SM-G930V. SO provided that you flash the firmware on which root was achieved for the SM-G930V, then there is really no stopping you from rooting this phone. As expected due to flashing the verizon firmware the phone has a locked bootloader now but root was achieved regardless.
Proceed at your own risk.

I haven't messed with Snapdragon, but what I'm trying to ask is if you have read the Snapdragon how to root, etc?
If you have, and followed the method/s correctly, and the crom service is closing down, I'd suspect something was mux'ed during the initial flashes/installs.

Gotcha. Good idea, and I believe others have done just what you are considering.
You can't install TWRP on the g955u. It's only for the Chinese and the HK variant with the snapdragon.
Snapdragon ONLY.
In NO way it is compatible with Exynos variants including but not limited to International (F/FD), Korean (N), Exynos LDU (X) variants.
Note that this does NOT unlock your phone. You need to have an unlockable variant such as Chinese or HK to flash.

If you want to root you would need this but there's no TWRP. And be careful, the next bootloader may block out of region firmware.
It makes no sense how the unlocked Variants can't unlock the bl since they're open to all carriers. This " carriers or OEM lock it down" is a gimmick
I had the same problem with being on Bootloader 2 trying tho flash stuff. Able to finally to get it to work with the instructions here if you're not on the bootloader 1.

Since the US models have a locked bootloader, it's much harder to root than international. I think they'll reject anything from Odin that isn't official firmware.
You might have more luck in the US/Snapdragon specific sections of the forums, near the bottom: https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s7

I thought oem unlock was unlocking the bootloader? I can simply do that in developer options.
OEM unlock as in the developer settings menu? That toggle only works on Exynos (930F/FD/W8) devices, on Snapdragon (930U/V/T/P/A) it doesn't actually do anything. SD bootloader has and likely will always be hard locked.

So why all the tutorials and YouTube videos on all the different methods of rooting snapdragon s7 if the bootloader doesn't unlock for root. Wtf
I've never watched them so I can't say, but I would assume they would use round about methods to do it? For example Exynos is simply flash TWRP on with Odin, then flash a SU zip.
Do the youtube videos tell you to do that with the snapdragon models, or is it some arbitrary multi step process? The only way I can imagine rooting Snapdragon is exploiting security flaws. I've also seen mentions of flashfire but I don't know what it does.
Like I said you'd have better luck going to the AT&T/T-mobile/Verizon etc sections. This area of the forum is mostly for Exynos.
I don't even know what this phone classifies under.
It was a Verizon phone, with Verizon logo on back.
Unlocked.
Now it's on TMobile Network.

Isn't there a method to unlock a bootloader?
Carrier unlocked just means you can use it on any carrier network, which is you've got.
But bootloader lock is at a firmware level, and can't be done for any US model S7.
Since all the US models are basically the same, any guide in any of their sections should work for any other model. Yours is a G930V but you can use any guide or firmware from any other US model S7.
You need to root using an engineering bootloader. Not sure if there's a version compatible with the latest update.
You will have problems, as eng BL is not stable, and your battery will not charge past 80%.
So basically is really difficult/impossible Root a 930u? and more difficult flash with a custom firm?
Investigating because just buy a Samsung S7 gm-930u and want to debloat it.
How can i know if is a snapdragon? I am on new zealand not US.
Rooting is difficult, flashing custom firmware, as in a ROM is basically impossible on snapdragon SoC's. With a locked bootloader you can't modify the boot image which is needed for ROMs.
To check your model boot into download mode by turning it off, then pressing and holding vol down + home + power. In there it will tell you your model, being in new zealand you should be on a SM-G930F or FD unless you grey imported.
Same button combo for ~10 secs gets you out of download mode.
Yes is the grey and is 930U pitifully.
So I should sell it and buy another one haha
Thanks for the advice.

Buying an S8+ And Hoping to Root; Any Questions I Should ask a Seller Before?

I had an HTC 10 w/Sprint and it's getting old and full, but I liked how easy it was to unlock the bootloader. I enjoy having a rooted phone and I'm seeing that the S8+ (US Version) can be rooted, but I'm assuming there's prerequisites that used phones might/might not have to do so. So I'm just wondering if there's any questions I should ask the sellers of an S8+ on Swappa or eBay to make sure that root is possible when I decide to buy one? I don't wanna wind up w/a LS997 situation, where I got the phone but it was too upgraded that the methods to root were patched up. Thanks for any help.

No boot loader unlock. There is a method for root. It's system only root and only on nougat.
Coming from LG you've seen anti roll back we have the same. But they're is a method to downgrade the system only even on the latest boot loader to have rooted nougat https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8+/development/root-t3909782/post79500078#post79500078
Safestrap is like fish on the lg g4. once safe strap is in place you can then flash a older system image from older boot loader revisions.
Even on the latest boot loader we're have Samsung's test firmware called combination files. Which include a nougat bootloader that is a permissive kernel and allows for root.
I ran lg all the way back from g2 to g5. So I've been in your shoes too. that's pretty much how I ended up here. From a sprint g2 g4 and g5
So even if the phone is upgraded, there's a method to roll back to an environment to root an S8+? So I can basically just cop an S8 w/no worries then and not ask any prerequisite questions?. That's good to see. I appreciate the assist.

yea pretty much the bootloader must remain the same increment but the system does not
obviously newer pie and even oreo where all bit 5 BLs but the firmware needed for root is also bit 5 but a nougat bootloader
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8/development/root-t3904613
is the perquisite to rooting
this allows a type of twrp for locked bl
we can flash pretty much all but boot img and non stock based custom roms
Bl6 hasnt been released yet so as long as you get it soon your good as
since this is edl I doubt it can be patched but always a possibility

Question T-Mobile to unlocked firmware?

I have an unlocked T-Mobile S22 Ultra, but I can't stand the boot screen and all the bloat. Is there a method to flash a unlocked firmware on T-Mobile variant? From what I understand we can't OEM unlock toggle on these.
What I did was, I got the U1 t mobile version firmware from sammobile, did a clean flash, and everything is working good, I believe you have to chech that the firmware you're trying to flash has the same baseband as the one installed in your phone. Also you need the latest patched Odin version to flash it.

Can you look to see if your Sim Card Manager is any different than the one outlined in this post (https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/sim-card-manager.4410867/)?
It's the same, except that I only have a physical Sim in my phone. I don't use eSims.
How much bloat are you seeing? I thought T-Mobile bloat was fairly minimal.
A shortcoming I noticed when I flashed to the U1 firmware was you can't RCS with AT&T contacts anymore. Minor inconvenience, but still an issue.
I guess my T-Mobile bootloader is U2A? I don't see which is the compatible download for that.

I swapped firmware for T-Mobile U1 u2a. Will I still get updates? I had the same firmware just not U1.
So theres no way to flash "global" firmware on a Tmobile S22 ultra? I hate Tmobile boot screen and updates are not the same

If you still owe for the phone (even promotion) it cannot be unlocked until it is completely paid off. If it is paid off, you will need to contact T-mobile to have them unlock it.
Thank you, is there a way i can see if it's paid off or not?
