How To Root S7 930U on TMobile Network???? I've searched xda and youtube - Samsung Galaxy S7 Questions and Answers

So my s7 930u is here. I've found hundreds of methods on here and youtube and odin just fails..
Who has rooted their s7 930u android 7.0 phone. And what exact method did you use. This is getting ridiculous

tried this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KawiIZ4bAV8
annnnnnnd now my phone is bootlooped
im flashing 7.0 stock firmware (latest update) with odin 3.12.10
seemed to be the only odin that flashed bl + ap + cp + csc correctly for me
if anyone has the latest method used to root this phone id greatly appreciate a link or tut

Since the US models have a locked bootloader, it's much harder to root than international. I think they'll reject anything from Odin that isn't official firmware.
You might have more luck in the US/Snapdragon specific sections of the forums, near the bottom: https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s7

I thought oem unlock was unlocking the bootloader? I can simply do that in developer options.

OEM unlock as in the developer settings menu? That toggle only works on Exynos (930F/FD/W8) devices, on Snapdragon (930U/V/T/P/A) it doesn't actually do anything. SD bootloader has and likely will always be hard locked.

So why all the tutorials and YouTube videos on all the different methods of rooting snapdragon s7 if the bootloader doesn't unlock for root. Wtf

I've never watched them so I can't say, but I would assume they would use round about methods to do it? For example Exynos is simply flash TWRP on with Odin, then flash a SU zip.
Do the youtube videos tell you to do that with the snapdragon models, or is it some arbitrary multi step process? The only way I can imagine rooting Snapdragon is exploiting security flaws. I've also seen mentions of flashfire but I don't know what it does.
Like I said you'd have better luck going to the AT&T/T-mobile/Verizon etc sections. This area of the forum is mostly for Exynos.

I don't even know what this phone classifies under.
It was a Verizon phone, with Verizon logo on back.
Unlocked.
Now it's on TMobile Network.

Isn't there a method to unlock a bootloader?

Carrier unlocked just means you can use it on any carrier network, which is you've got.
But bootloader lock is at a firmware level, and can't be done for any US model S7.
Since all the US models are basically the same, any guide in any of their sections should work for any other model. Yours is a G930V but you can use any guide or firmware from any other US model S7.

You need to root using an engineering bootloader. Not sure if there's a version compatible with the latest update.
You will have problems, as eng BL is not stable, and your battery will not charge past 80%.

So basically is really difficult/impossible Root a 930u? and more difficult flash with a custom firm?
Investigating because just buy a Samsung S7 gm-930u and want to debloat it.
How can i know if is a snapdragon? I am on new zealand not US.

Rooting is difficult, flashing custom firmware, as in a ROM is basically impossible on snapdragon SoC's. With a locked bootloader you can't modify the boot image which is needed for ROMs.
To check your model boot into download mode by turning it off, then pressing and holding vol down + home + power. In there it will tell you your model, being in new zealand you should be on a SM-G930F or FD unless you grey imported.
Same button combo for ~10 secs gets you out of download mode.

Yes is the grey and is 930U pitifully.
So I should sell it and buy another one haha
Thanks for the advice.

It should be under the Verizon model. Usually tracfone does not lock the bootloaders on their variant. On another thread a guy flashed the verizon firmware to this model with no bricks and issue. but doing that WILL lock the bootloader. I hope he responds to my post. want to know to what extent it was flashed and if knox got tripped.

I should be able to get one of these mids august hopefully and will use it as a test device to see what bricks it and what hack can be done. In the past tracfone has release the SM-S975L(Tracfone Unlocked bootloader) which equals to an SGH-I337 (AT&T Locked bootloader), they released the S5 & S6 which equal to the SM-G900V and SM-G920V, both have Unlocked bootloaders. So i dnt think the S7 is any different and equals to the SM-G930V. Any root method that works for the SM-G930V should work on the SM-G930VL. But again this is just my say based on past experiences, i wont know until i get the phone and try all this. For what I know so far he was able to flash the complete verizon firmware which i think will flash a locked bootloader and no going back after it.
Yes will share my experiences.

So i was able to flash the full latest verizon firmware and fully ended up converting the phone to an SM-G930V. SO provided that you flash the firmware on which root was achieved for the SM-G930V, then there is really no stopping you from rooting this phone. As expected due to flashing the verizon firmware the phone has a locked bootloader now but root was achieved regardless.
Proceed at your own risk.

I see, the only way I see this working for you is by third apps or flash a firmware that supports it.

new phone. new questions.

gretting and salutations,
I recently traded my iphone 6 plus with a busted screen to a store for a galaxy s7, which is still under warrenty so im hella stoked. Anyway, love the phoone. Would like to root and flash something vanilla. or as vanilla as i can get.
I have an att model g930A, unlocked and on t-mobile.
I've been looking in the forums and im not seeing alot of roms for the att model, which i guess is different than the international version.
any insight??
As i said, id like the be as vanilla as i can get.
wifi calling is not required and neither is VOLTE.
-As long as tethering works, im fine.
Yes the US models are using a Qualcom CPU instead of exynos and have a locked bootloader which makes custom ROMs near impossible.
I believe you can flash stock ROMs with Odin, that's about it.

there is an option under developer options for oem unlock and i read that unlocks the bootloader.
i dont mind the phone as it is but id like to debloat or just flash straight android. no bloat.
You can find a thread here https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...covery-official-twrp-galaxy-s7-t3458579/page3 discussing the unlocking of bootloader.
According to a post in early May it still hasn't been done for US models.
Really thinking about flashing the U firmware but I'm worried about my unlock.
I couldn't go thru att but I did pay for a code, if that matters. Reading on the forum it should be fine if you got it thru att but IDK what my process is classified as.

What is this "crom.apk" and if all of the devs here couldn't find a way to unlock the bootloader for the snapdragon variant of our phone why would this work? Seems a little fishy to me.
I am not going to be the first to try it and brick my phone. If others try it and it works then I might try it.
Not calling you a liar, I just know that the devs here worked long and hard and didn't find a way to unlock this bootloader so I am not putting much faith into an .apk file. Sorry.

So you are saying after you run the crom on the next reboot it gets stuck, or only after you login to your Google account? If it gets locked/stuck at the boot screen then your phone is unusable. I am not trying to be a jerk or be difficult, and I hope you figure this out, but until it is fully usable I am not going to try it. Are you using the S8 or S8 plus?
Good luck figuring it all out.
Well, so I guess I should be more active in the site.
There are two firmwares for the G9550 the Hong Kong and the China, one has the bootlader unlocked and the other doesn't, you just have to install the one that is unlocked in your phone through odin. After that you can install magisk for root. I haven't done the process in Oreo, just Nougat, but I have a rooted S8+ g9550 doing this. Today I might try it in Oreo

EDIT: Yes, I realise that Snapdragons cannot be unlocked, but for some reason I'm still trying to do the impossible. I guess I am not rooting the phone lol ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Galaxy s8+Sm-G955u snapdragon Verizon

Has anyone found a successful working root methods for the SM-G955u samsung Galaxy s8 plus I do not have twrp or anything everything is stock. Computer access is very limited . I haven't messed with Snapdragon, but what I'm trying to ask is if you have read the Snapdragon how to root, etc?
If you have, and followed the method/s correctly, and the crom service is closing down, I'd suspect something was mux'ed during the initial flashes/installs.

Gotcha. Good idea, and I believe others have done just what you are considering.
You can't install TWRP on the g955u. It's only for the Chinese and the HK variant with the snapdragon.
Snapdragon ONLY.
In NO way it is compatible with Exynos variants including but not limited to International (F/FD), Korean (N), Exynos LDU (X) variants.
Note that this does NOT unlock your phone. You need to have an unlockable variant such as Chinese or HK to flash.

If you want to root you would need this but there's no TWRP. And be careful, the next bootloader may block out of region firmware.
It makes no sense how the unlocked Variants can't unlock the bl since they're open to all carriers. This " carriers or OEM lock it down" is a gimmick
I had the same problem with being on Bootloader 2 trying tho flash stuff. Able to finally to get it to work with the instructions here if you're not on the bootloader 1.

[GUIDE][SM-G965U/U1] How to Use Engineering Mode

Hey guys! I haven't seen any other guides about this so here you go. How to use Engineering mode in the G965U and G965U1. Engineering mode doesn't let you do much, but if you're interested in testing some root methods it is definitely worth your interest. The two things that are most interesting to me is that SELinux is in Permissive and the OEM unlocking option appears, but it seems enabling OEM unlock does nothing. Still, all the files for the regular S9+ software is there, it just seems to boot a different mode. If someone can figure out how to make the normal UI and settings show up and inject root this could be our method. DON'T DO THIS IF YOU DON'T MIND RISKING MESSING UP YOUR DEVICE. USE A GOOD USB CABLE AND ONLY FLASH THE RIGHT FILES FOR YOUR MODEL. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

So first. Go ahead and download the ENG boot and CSC for your device HERE and HERE. These files are courtesy of @wolfgart . Please give him thanks on his post, all credit goes to him for his work.
Second, extract both zips and you will have two .tar.md5 files. You need the latest odin to install this. I was unable to restore to stock with regular odin but patched odin let me return to stock. Download it HERE.
Go ahead and download the latest stock firmware as well. There a plenty online but I suggest using one from HERE as it worked for me.
Extract the firmware zip and reboot your phone into download mode by holding Bixby + Vol Down + Power. Plug in and open up odin and select the CP, BL, and USERDATA from the stock firmware and use the ENG boot file for AP and Combination file you downloaded earlier for CSC. Hold on to that stock firmware because you'll want to be able to return easily. Go ahead and start the flash process in ODIN. This will take a few minutes. If you have an MD5 error simply remove the .MD5 from the end of the filename for AP and/or CSC.
That's it! If all goes well you will have ENG boot. It isn't much right now but I'm sure with all your brilliant minds it could be the pathway to something much bigger.

Ok I understand thanks for the explanation I think I would not benefit from changing firmware. I explain something to you: I have this mobile and when they gave it to me the active csc was the vzw and I looked for a tutorial and managed to change it to xaa which is the one used in my country for unlocked device, the device doesn't have a Verizon app not anything like that but when I was in vzw it had already been updated to the April security patch but as I changed the csc I only received the March one and to be able to update the patch I had to install a firmware with the updated patch greeting again
