I'm not sure if anybody else has had this similar problem. Based upon Accu battery, my phone spends 0% of time in deep sleep. Looking at the battery stats in the settings menu is not helpful. Looking at the battery stats in acu battery, I still can't figure out what app is causing the phone to never enter deep sleep. I don't even know where to start with this. Is there anybody who can help me? Thanks!

Best to go here and search/ask.
Are you getting through an entire day with battery left over? Maybe even getting through two days????? If so, then why even worry about it?

Can you confirm you simply got a blank line response when you put in the following:-
adb -d shell pm grant com.asksven.betterbatterystats android.permission.BATTERY_STATS
adb -d shell pm grant com.asksven.betterbatterystats android.permission.DUMP
adb -d shell pm grant com.asksven.betterbatterystats android.permission.PACKAGE_USAGE_STATS
When putting each line in and hitting enter, you should see the above, with no response at all. If you get any text as response, something has gone wrong with the format of what you put in.
And the dump permission is particularly important for wakelocks.

I'm returning mine because of continual bad battery life. With the same apps and settings as other phones that do better, and are older. It's great you have no issues. Blaming a "rogue app" is really not helpful. Anyone can look at battery stats and see something with a wildly high usage %. There is nothing like that on my phone.
Go look at the 7 pro reddit and see what people are saying. Tons and tons of people have bad battery life, especially considering it's a mid tier chip.

I was poking around the phone today and I think I found an app' that really doesn't need to run at all times and probably doesn't need to be installed on the phone.
I noticed Adobe, which in the PC world has it's own "auto updater" ["AIR", IIRC] and I noticed HTC has their own little "widget" installed - Tell HTC.
Has anyone else notice this before?
For the guys who haven't seen it,it's in Settings/About Phone/Tell HTC.
Try turning that widget off and let me know if you see a difference.
I sure did.
My apologies if this was covered before....I'm new here and it's late.
what type of difference? i don't see this app/program running in my task manager. the only time i have seen it come up was when the phone crashed and i got a screen prompt that said "notify htc about unexpected shutdown with Tell HTC".

The Adobe reader app updates through the market so it is the market that checks every so often or when you go to it not like on a pc where it is the program that checks.
The Tell Htc widget/app is to report system errors to Htc, so it wont really make any difference. The only difference you will see if it is turned off is that when you have a system crash the pop-up asking if can send the crash info to Htc wont happen any more and no info will be sent.

I noticed the screen was much more responsive to touch gestures.
I didn't take notice of any change in memory usage.

Thanks for clarifying that so I don't need to hunt through menus and menus looking for it.
Probably a total placebo effect, but I feel like things are a little snappier? I'll keep an eye on the screen responsiveness as I go through this power cycle and will report back with some thoroughly unscientific results.
that is good trick. I also don't like the "show me" which is part of sync.
Don't know how to uncheck it.
this makes my phone no faster or snapier than what it is

Good to know, but I put that one up there with spyware.
I'll turn it on if I ever need it.
Yup, this definitely speeds your phone up. It worked for me by making everything more responsive. I thought everyone already knew about this. Its not placebo. Its legit.

Thanks my screen is wicked fast.
Just to follow up from my post earlier today with a quick, anecdotal report:
I disabled the HTC reporting as suggested by the OP around noon today, while I was at ~80% charge. It's about 9 hours later after moderate to heavy use today, and at ~15% charge my screen still has yet to lag out on me during unlocking or swiping between screens.
For reference, I would usually notice little stutters throughout the day, and especially more so once my battery dropped below the 25% threshold.
No idea why something as seemingly innocuous as error reporting would have such a marked effect, but that is honestly the only variable that I can recall changing all day today.
The responses in this thread seem like a mixed bag of results, but hopefully these good results continue for me and some lucky others!
just disable "show me" with fre3vo way better than to turn off background data..
Glad it helped some people.
Hi there,
Under Settings -> Apps -> All apps is an app called "Update device", which has a huge number of permissions. Can somene please tell me what it is and if it's "normal" for Nexus 5? Has someone this app, too?
The thing is, that it hasn't the original android app logo (the green robot in 3D-style). it looks like spyware or so....
Thanks alot!
see appendix:
I think it's normal. I have the same.
The battery monitor app "Carat" recommends that I kill this "Update Device" service and calls it a "hog". I'm unlocked and rooted so can't get OTAs as it is, so if that's what this app/service does, I'd gladly disable it forever. Not sure how to do that though as it doesn't show up in Greenify and Titanium Backup won't work with ART so I can't "freeze" it.
Thoughts?

Only then, would it be considered a problem worth investigating. If you have battery problems, post your BBS log and I will personally take a look.

It doesn't matter. The service is always running regardless so leaving the toggle on versus leaving the toggle off is simply a matter of whether you'd like to see it off or not.

I also used Greenify, its the best battery saving app on the market, if you get the donated version it has some experimental features that can work on system apps, but I wouldn't messed with that to much on SGS5, they work perfectly on my Nexus 5, I would get easily 16 hrs used on my Nexus with Greenify and Xposed Framework working hand in hand. I Greenfiy every app thats in my toolbox, and when I used the app it comes out of hibernation and after words it goes back into hibernation, similar to freezing a app on Titianuim backup.
I've just spent two days on twice factory resetting then reinstalling 100+ apps on my Samsung tab to try to stop the "security storage" process pegging at about 20% whenever the screen is on, and finally I realised that having the "toolbox" switched on is the culprit. Just turning it off in the settings makes "security storage" go down from 20% to about 2%, and that makes a clear difference to battery life. Just reporting in this old thread for google to find to help others.

Perhaps you should go into your accounts and stop many of the the Google services from syncing. I only have Calendar, Contacts and Gmail on. That might help with battery life.

Why would they do that? The whole point of having a smartphone is having instantaneous access to your info and using these features. This is a known bug affecting many. Supposedly oneplus one will fix this with the next ota update.

Things running constantly so that you can have instantaneous and continuous access will drain battery-operated electronics. That's nothing unique with OPO, other smartphones, or any other electronic device which runs on a battery.

Yes it will drain your battery, but not excessively like the google services bug present in cm11s. Most people don't buy a smartphone to have everything turned off on it. My g3 has all the same things constantly active and battery is a beast on it.

I think you better disable Google app and use it on your browser! And it might be that app which monitors your wakelocks as well. Uninstall it.
Btw: Mods will move it to the correct section (q&a).
