Talk about fast! Finally a justification for owning more than one PH1
https://www.essential.com/developer/android-p-developer-preview
Essential ph1
Hi owner of another mystery,
How's your experience with it assuming you checked it out? I'm always reluctant to install OS betas until I've heard some feedback. Thing is, Essential PH1 forums/discussions are virtually non-existent for this SUPERB device! Now that PH-2 sounds like it's dead-in-the-water, I hope but with full confidence that support will continue for the PH-1 as it has all along. Any day we should get a security update; their monthly updates beat the competition by parsecs.
But the P beta, right? Thoughts from any of the intrepid?
So far so good the only crashed I experienced was Asus file manager. Other than that signal somewhat low.... As always a bit spotty. But really enjoying the new features. I was navigating on Google maps and went home the nav window minimized like picture in picture on a TV. Really pleased so far.
If i flash the beta ,when the public reléase gets avaliable i Will ver the ota update ? Or i Will need to flash other stock versión and then proceed with the newest ota?

You will receive ota. The install is pretty much painless.
I have flashed the p preview and can't get NFC to work properly. I have relocked the bootloader and flicked the switch back in developer options. But I still can't get NFC to work on Google Pay. Anyone else have the same problem before I flash back to Oreo again.
Do you get an error? btw the nfc chip is on the bottom back of the phone

Gotta use either a custom kernel... Or Magisk to hide the unlocked bootloader
I sorted it in the end by relocking the bootloader and I found out that the NFC sensor is at the bottom of the phone and not the top by the camera!
Battery life was very good in 8.1 it is markedly better in 9.0
I just moved to the latest beta by side loading the ota through adb. Everything runs fine except I'm getting pretty high Google play services drain, but no other issues.

Flash the july oreo update, then go back ro adb sideload the Android p beta ota, then WiFi will work.
This is just for a simple discussion. I've tried flashing the open beta, and since Developer Preview 4 I've not been able to get service. Flashing other modem versions ends up breaking the phone. The new modem is also ~ half the size of the old versions.
Anyone had any luck?
I'm on DP4, should I back up my modem before updating?
Edit: It works perfectly for me on TMobile converted.

Did you flash Global 10.5.12 first?
I can't get any 5G with global or beta. Might need to see what's going on when I return to stock.

Yes, I flashed 10.5.12 first then did a local upgrade to open beta 1. No service at all on reboot.

No, I've tried flashing the modem from 10.5.12 from fastboot as extracted from the payload.bin

Then you will have to flash back to the T-Mobile firmware and upgrade to 10.5.20 then reunion bootloader backup your modem and everything then covert
I have my tmobile op8 on the open beta and this was the only way I was able to have service.
1. Msm to tmobile 10.5.7
2. Flash unlock token
3. Unlock bootloader
4. Flash global 10.5.7 (I still had service at this point, and I did not flash any modem)
5. Downloaded oxygen updater apk from chrome (to avoid restoring everything from the Google play store just yet)
6. Updated to 10.5.12
7. Switched oxygen updater settings to download open beta and then flashed from system settings (still had service, no modem flash)
8. Reset the phone from settings (to go through set up and restore all my data from play store)
This was just what I had done and it did work for me so good luck if you decide to try. I only did the chrome apk file for oxygen updater to avoid having a bunch of data on my phone when going to the beta. I haven't had any weird bugs and it's been smooth for me
Not sure why some are having this issue, I have signal with no issues on beta. I was on .12 and went to beta.
I had this issue on my other OnePlus 8, a data wipe fixed my signal entirely.

That sucks. I was on 10.5.12 a couple nights ago. Decided to try DP4 because all the hype about copying OneUI was making me interested. I loved OneUI on all my Samsung devices. Missed it actually!
When I flashed DP4 I loved it. I checked this morning for Beta 1 OTA after seeing it was out. It downloaded and installed. No issues at all. I have not rooted or anything else.
The only thing I did diff was I was on DP4 before OB1. However, this really should not matter. The beta is expected to be flashed from 10.5.x AFAIK so that should not be the problem.
What's weird about this phone though, I am always seeing people reporting issues with signal after flashing. I dont get it. I have yet to loose signal. Not to say I have not had ****ty signal, thats just T-Mobile where I am at. But I can say with the latest T-MO update and the latest Beta 1 I can hit almost 100 megs down. Before these updates I was getting about 10 megs. ON all devices in my house on all carriers known to man. Occasionally I could get 11 megs down

Yep, me too! I was pretty happy to have good speeds, and the latest OOS.
Ok I'm on 10.5.20 do I need to downgrade first or can I flash straight to global 10.5.12
I downloaded it. Went to local upgrade, installed it.
Went to Magisk and did install to inactive slot like normal. And it reboots. Then a small bootloop for a second. Then goes straight back to normal. Like I never installed anything.
Any thoughts?
I tried to root by patching new boot.img but get bootloop which not fixed except after msmdownload tool
All data wiped

Same here. If you dont install magisk to the inactive slot it will go through and you will be in oos12. Problem with mine, it wont read my flaking sim card. Tried it 5x all same problem. Also, every reboot, your dpi goes back to 360 lmao.
I patched boot.img by canary magisk and it is working good, but no option for safetynet passing

I used this guide but patched with magisk 23.0. still have all my modules and passing safety net. Using latest stable magisk 23.0 righteous. Thank you for this. I tried for 3 days killing my device flashing boot img. At least I know my downloaded msm tool works. On latest A12 build out for the global op9
I wouldnt recommend it tbh if its your only phone. Its buggy AH.

Would you or anyone else mind sharing the boot img for the OnePlus 9: OOS/Android 12 ?
I have the Global / NA version.
It would be greatly appreciated!

I have on my PC I will upload soon. Away from it currently. You really need 3 partitions to make work. Boot,vendor_boot,vbmeta
Geesh the battery is so much better on A12 after debloating how I see fit. Passing safety net, all banking apps working and still using old modules !! Score

All three are in here. Make sure to use magisk 23.0 to patch boot and vendor boot so you don't loose modules and magisk hide. Then you disable verity before boot with vb_meta img. You have to do from sdk platform tools folder though. Will not work just putting in a folder on desktop and pulling cmd window from there. Enjoy , follow the above guide to a T

My experience with OOS 12 so far has been a nightmare, and I'm not even rooted.
For the record:
I was coming from OOS 11 not the latest version previous to OOS 12, rooted, pretty much stable but I felt the phone pretty slow in comparison to other (Long story short, I got a brand new OnePlus 8 I bought almost a year ago but couldn't get my hands on it, so after getting tired of waiting for it, bought the OP9).
My OP8 is not rooted, doesn't have the bootloader unlocked, and it's miles faster than my OP9 with about the same apps installed with the exception of the apps that require root.
So, since my OP9 was feeling slow in comparison, I decided to go at OOS 12 to see how it went. First experience was bad, the phone kept hanging, didn't read the SIM correctly at first, so I read someone that was suggesting to do a factory reset to fix some issues.
I did a factory reset, deleted everything on the phone to start OOS 12 from zero, and the phone keeps hanging, specially when I get phone calls via Whatsapp or other apps, and less but still some problems with "answering incoming phone calls".
At this point I rather try to downgrade to OOS 11 and sit this one out for a long while.
I thought about rooting OOS 12, but being honest, having root is not going to make the phone more stable or anything. I guess I'll do give it a try at OOS 12 in 3-6months after a couple of updates, maybe other versions are better.

I have the correct msm tool for device. This is the forward route for you. Takes you to 11.4. Stock A11
Does anyone else have the issue of their touchscreen not functioning when they install the A12 update? Ive tried installing twice and both times my screen would not register any touches only the volume and power buttons functioned?
EDIT: NVM I MSM'd back to stock and upgraded to OOS 12 before unlocking the bootloader.

if you are looking for performance, look into kernels and/or just use a kernel manager.
out of all the Roms I've tried (all but the latest havok release) crDroid is the best performance option I get from a ROM on O09. that piared with optional GApps and frequent OTA updates, its the best thing out so far. the OTA even works perfectly at retaining root without any user input. (but do a backup before reboot, its still technically a dirty flash so play safe)

I don't want to get too off-topic, but figured I'd save a MSM wipe to some people, I can confirm this works, but only using the latest version of Magisk (v24), temporary boot will not work with v23 (the last one with MagiskHide), it caused Qualcomm crashdump and no recovery or fastbootd.
If anyone looks into other root spoofing solutions with the newer version v24, from Magisk settings use Zygisk, select apps using Enforced Denylist, and Universal SafetyNet Fix, there is also Shamiko, which I haven't tested personally.
From my own experience, DenyList+Universal SafetyNet fix+Selinux Switch if you need to switch between permissive and enforced Selinux are enough. Apps won't get to know there is root, safetynet is passed, and selinux checks are passed (that one took me a long while to figure out)
Hey guys, has anybody tried the new OOS12 on a tmobile variant yet and works fine?
I tried the first oos12 on my globally converted tmobile and it wont read the sim card at all.
Thanks!

C39 is really nice. Need to be on Beta 1 and updated to latest. Super stable and battery life has been the best I've seen on this 9 yet. Faced UI issues while watching Netflix. Dual hole punch out at top of screen on either side and near halfway bleeding black arches. Once Netflix closes it stays on screen for a few seconds then goes away. That's really the only issue I had on C39. BTW, 9(non pro) TMobile converted to Global. Everything works fine,no data issues or anything

Are you running 11.2.9.9?
TMO EU MSM conversion back to stock,
Speed through set up and Unlock bootloader ,
Update to 11.2.9.9
Install OB1 and use wifi to update to C.39,
Understand that data will be iffy the first 2 Betas but should catch later during install,
Once updated to C.39,factory reset(optional) and let sit. Data will catch after a moment.
Every reboot data will stick, just takes a bit.
I run it rooted with patching boot.img and run magisk v23 no issues
No need to use TMO MSM anymore. I haven't used it in a long time. I always stay converted so I use the conversion MSM always

No problem
I have a two year old V50, that was bought new in the box. Has been working great except for the fast few weeks - post Android 12 update.
1. Phone lags like it has an app that is frozen.
2. Sluggish to open apps like the camera.
3. Safe mode does not work
4. AOD display get shifted on the screen.
These are all intermeittent problems and Verizon has offered to replace the phone under a warranty. Curious to hear thoughts if you think this really is a phone issue or something else. I did a factory reset after the Android 12 update, didn't seem to make a difference.
Thx.
why not just flash back A11 with LGup? before u do that though, could you do me a hugh favor? go into EDL mode and backup modem_a and modem_b partitions for me please. Reason being A12 Kdz doesn't exist, only way to get A12 on Verizon is OTA, as I have a 450vm but with EU 40b A12 (which works great BTW) but I don't have the lastest A12 modem for it...
LG rom has now Verizon A12 KDZ uploaded, so I don't need the dumps for the modem partitions anymore! thx anyway
u can still however use LGup to downgrade to A11 in PM as I've suggested.
